The house's air had grown oppressively dense. Jason felt its weight crushing down on him, like a hand tightening around his chest that was invisible. He couldn't get rid of the penetrating uncertainty that had crept into his head ever since the whispers began to circulate—about Kendall and her history. Dealing with the aftermath of Emily's visit had proven to be difficult enough, but this? Jason's hands gripped his phone more tightly as he read the most recent text message from an unexpected sender again. Kendall had received a disturbing message from a close friend.

“You need to look closer. She's not as pure as she appears to be. I've heard rumors that she lied to me about her previous relationships. Perhaps you ought to start enquiring before it's too late.

Jason's mind was racing as his jaw tightened. It was difficult not to let the doubt grow after everything that had transpired, even though he didn't want to believe it. Truth had to be known to him.

The house had never felt so large. Every room seemed to echo with an invisible tension, thick in the air between Jason and Kendall. They had fallen into a tense silence after their disagreement, neither of them prepared to confront the other. The distance between them felt wider than the walls between their rooms, even when they passed one other in the halls and exchanged brief comments. Jason sat on his bed's edge and gazed down at his phone. Another missed call from Kendall. Despite seeing her name appear on the screen and witnessing the call come through, he was prevented from answering it for some reason. It wasn't like he was unwilling to speak with her. He was at a loss for words.---The days that followed were filled with brief, hollow exchanges. When they spoke, it was only about logistics—the bills, the schedule for the week. Anything personal felt too raw, too dangerous to touch. Their unsaid tension built up between them like a wall, brick by brick, getting stronger every

Jason was pacing in his office, feeling the weight of his crumbling personal life pressing down on him. The recent arguments with Kendall had unsettled him more than he wanted to admit. Their used to be easygoing stillness had become strained, a continual warning that things were getting out of hand. He was unable to resolve the discomfort or close the increasing distance between them. The silence was broken abruptly by a hard knock on his office door. Isabella entered the room with a confident gait, as if she was the owner, before he could reply. Her confident, almost predatory smile immediately set Jason on edge. He knew she was up to something, something risky, without even having to ask. That look on her face signaled trouble ahead. "Isabella," Jason spoke sternly, his voice tinged with distrust and irritation. "Why are you in this place?" Isabella strolled across the room without responding, and eventually took a seat in the chair across from his desk. It was a heavy mood, li

  • Entwined With Karma    WEIGHT OF SILENCE

Jason was seated at his desk, the dim light in the room created by the soft glow from his phone screen. The pictures, the incriminating, cursed pictures, looked back at him, a continual reminder of the mayhem that was simmering beneath the surface. His mind raced with a thousand ideas every time he saw them, none of which solved the problem. He had been repeating this image over and over in his head for days, attempting to come up with an explanation for the inexplicable. What had occurred, or what he thought had happened, how was he going to explain it to Kendall? There were too many blanks in the night with Isabella for him to be able to claim with confidence that nothing happened. And these photos... they were damning. If he showed them to Kendall, would she believe he had been set up? That nothing happened? Would his apologies really matter to her, or would her inability to forgive such betrayal be too great? In an attempt to relieve the strain accumulating behind his eyes, he ma

Jason's thoughts were occupied by the possibilities as he gazed at his office ceiling. The pictures on his phone tasted like poison, ruining all he had worked so hard to create. Isabella’s threats, the photos—none of it made sense. Could he really have been that reckless? Or was this all a meticulously crafted lie? He was plagued by the questions, but he knew one thing for sure: he needed answers. His jaw tightened as the pressure of the circumstance weighed on him. His marriage, his profession, and his reputation would all fall apart if those pictures were ever revealed. Nevertheless, the recollections of that evening were, at most, jumbled. He was plagued by an uneasy feeling that something wasn't quite right and that Isabella might not have been telling the whole story. He had to find out.---Jason couldn’t let this spiral out of control. Jason sat at his desk, gazing vacantly at his phone as Isabella's latest message appeared on the screen. As each moment passed, his heart throbbed quicker and grew noisier in his ears. Alicia walked beside her, trying to keep the mood light with gentle conversation, but Kendall was barely listening. She managed to nod occasionally, picking up bits of what Alicia was saying, but her thoughts were elsewhere. She briefly glanced down at her growing belly while contemplating, "Can you experience both happiness and fear simultaneously?” "This baby... my baby... what if my illness causes this precious life that is growing inside of me to suffer?” A surge of guilt tightened her chest, the weight of her secret almost suffocating. Jason sat in the conference room, watching the projector screen attentively while one of his managers went over the quarterly reports in a monotonous tone. The numbers became hazy in front of him, constantly shifting in clarity. He had examined the information numerous times, yet on this day, his thoughts refused to calm down. Every few minutes, he caught himself thinking about Kendall. That morning, she was quiet and slightly more timid as she stood in the doorway, observing him as he picked up his coat. He still recalled how her face softened, a silent message in her eyes as she bid him farewell for the day. The memory stuck with him, unwilling to disappear. As the presentation droned on, he checked his phone out of habit, noticing a few missed messages from Isabella. He dismissed them with a swipe, his attention drifting back to the last glimpse he’d had of Kendall. He found himself wondering if she was alright, hoping she was feeling better after their recent challenges. It wasn

"Thane," Kendall greeted, her voice a forced calm, though a tight smile barely softened the edge of her unease. "Jason isn’t here."“That’s fine.” He spoke quickly and showed little interest. His eyes quickly scanned over her, sharp and evaluating, pausing to scrutinize the room's details as if looking for a hidden object. "I am here to have a conversation with you." A strange dread settled in her stomach. She dismissed the maid with a quick nod, hoping to mask her discomfort. As the maid retreated, Kendall gestured reluctantly for Thane to enter. His presence was unsettling, a dark cloud clouding the safety of her home, and every step he took seemed to carry a weight that filled the room.“Would you like something to drink?” she offered, hoping to fill the heavy silence with something—anything—to distract from his cold intensity.“No need.” He settled onto the couch without waiting for her invitation, his air of entitlement unmistakable. His gaze remained fixed on her, unwavering. "

Her being there soothed him unexpectedly, providing a peaceful reassurance that was both fresh and recognizable. He briefly observed her, feeling warmth in his chest, surprised by the sudden appearance of this feeling. Kendall awoke, her eyes opening slowly, and when she looked at him, a faint smile formed on her lips, showing how tired she still was. She whispered "Good morning," in a gentle and sleepy voice. "Jason responded, his smile soft, mirroring the warmth in his eyes, saying, 'Morning!'" “How are you feeling? Still tired?”Kendall paused to breathe, moving a piece of hair from her face. She dismissed it, not wishing to spoil the moment. Jason found himself captivated by her enthusiasm, even while reminding himself that their purpose was for the children, not for his increasing intrigue with her. “So,” he started, observing her gaze scanning the aisles in amazement, “where do we even begin?” Kendall gazed at him, determination shining in her eyes. Following a lengthy day filled with meetings, Jason closed his laptop and rubbed his face with a hand while letting out a deep sigh. His phone vibrated on the table, drawing his focus. He grabbed it, noticing an email alert from “Mason & Blare Industries,” one of the top firms he had been chasing for several months. They’d sent him a formal invitation to a charity event—an opportunity he knew could solidify his company’s reputation. Yet, as he scanned the details, a line caught his eye. He needed to attend with his wife. Jason exhaled, drumming his fingers on his desk. Kendall didn’t enjoy being in the limelight. The last thing he wanted was to pressure her. The idea of going alone was appealing, but the collaboration relied on it, and he was aware they would anticipate both of them attending. When Jason got home, he discovered Kendall snuggled on the couch, a book held in her hands. She glanced up when he entered, her expression melting into a smile that, in a way, seemed as inviti
