DEVON
Flipping on my hood, I made my way out of my room and down the stairs. Mum was a heavy sleeper and I'd told her that I wanted to go to bed early. So, she'd kissed me goodnight and had retreated to her room. Since Dad wasn't coming home tonight, I figured it would be to my advantage. Plus, I desperately needed to make sure Theo was okay. I tiptoed out of the house, quietly shutting the door behind me. Taking a deep breath, I started to move towards my car. "Young lady, where are you going to, by this time of the night?" Raj, the gate keeper said to me with a frown on his face."Please, my friend needs me. It's very important" I said and he narrowed his eyes."I don't believe you.""You know I've never done this before, I swear my friend needs my help. It's a matter of death and life" I said. "Why didn't you tell your parents, then?""They won't let me," I cried. He looked at me and let out a sigh. "Fine. You had better be telling the truth. Make sure you come home before four a.m" he said and I nodded frantically. I drove off with my eyes on the road. When Lucian had told me there were living few blocks away from my house, I'd been relieved. I got to their house and packed my car. It was a beautiful storey building with a neat lawn and garden. Two cars were parked by the side of the house. I parked my car and got out, my heart thudding madly. Just as I raised my fist to knock on the door, the door opened.
Lucian stood there with a grim look on his face. He looked different. His hair wasn't black and curly like before. His silverish blond hair was long and was nearly waist-length. His eyes were a sharp silver and there was a black tattoo of a diamond on his temple."You look different" I said and he rolled his eyes."That was glamour. This," he said, gesturing at himself. "Is my real form"When I noticed the blood stain on his grey T-shirt, my heart sank."It's high time you came," he said, moving aside to let me in. The house was cool and it had a homey feel."Where is he?" I asked."Come with me," he said, ascending the stairs. He got to a white door just along the passage way. Glancing at me, he twisted the door knob and opened the door. "Ladies first," he said and I nervously, stepped into the very neat bedroom. This must be Theo's, I thought.A woman sat by the bedside, whispering to someone who was lying on the bed. I moved closer and gasped. He looked so drained and there were blood stains splattered on the floor, on his lips and his jaw. His eyes were closed, long eyelashes brushing the top of his cheeks. His breathing was laboured, long hair sprawled across the pillow. I rushed to his side, alarmed. I felt a dull pain all over me. No doubt, it wasn't even half of what he was feeling. The woman by his bedside wiped his jaw and lips with wipes. She looked at me, worriedly."You're Devon, right?" She asked. I nodded."He's been asking for you," she said to me, rising to her feet. "I'm Rachel, his adoptive mother" she said and I forced out a smile. I was so worried, I couldn't concentrate."I'll leave you two alone," Rachel said and left the room. I took her position by his bedside, then I took his hand in mine. "Theo?" I said, stroking his hair. His eyelashes fluttered delicately. "I'm right here. I'm here for you," I whispered, pressing a kiss to his pale knuckles. He let out a weak groan and opened his eyes. Tears welled up my eyes. I did this to him."Dev?" He croaked."Yeah?""H-how are you here? I don't-" He rasped, chest heaving."I'm so sorry. I know you're hurting and it's my fault. I hope I can make you feel better" I whispered, my thumb stroking the back of his palm. He closed his eyes, letting out a sigh."I'm glad you're here. I'm so glad you're here" he croaked."It's okay, get some rest. I'm right here" I said still stroking his silk black hair.....Despite how drained he looked, it didn't change the fact that he was still so beautiful. I watched him sleep. One of the black symbols just below his collar bone was glowing a bright golden color. I covered him with a blanket, tucking it securely around his body. I wasn't planning on leaving until I knew he was okay. The door opened, Luke walked in and mopped off the blood from the floor."Will he be okay?" I asked after he'd gotten rid of the mess. He shrugged and sat down on the couch."He'll be fine. Tell me what happened" he said and I told him about Kayden."If he was actually attending your school, I would've seen his aura. I don't get it. How did he even know that it would affect Theo?" Luke said, pacing back and forth in the room."I don't understand, either. I don't understand why it's affecting him so much and not me" I said."If you were actually like Theo, you would've felt it just as much as he's feeling it. Kayden or whosoever he is actually strained the connection between you and Theo. It would've killed him if the demon had strained the connection a little longer. Think of it as tying a cord around someone's heart and pulling at the cord until it's close to snapping"I gasped, tears filling my eyes. "You said you wanted to leave several times but you felt like you couldn't" he said and I nodded."Yeah""I think he was using the power of persuasion on you. Whatever Kayden is, we need to find him and eliminate him. He's a major threat to not just Theo but everyone else out there"I swallowed hard, gazing at Theo's immobile figure."I don't deserve him" I said."What? I'm still mad at you for doing what you did, but why would you say that?" Luke said, taken aback. "He just revealed himself to me, today--and look what I've done. I nearly got him killed. I'm not good for him" I said, tears blurring my vision. "Don't say that. You're only human. You didn't mean to hurt him. It doesn't make you a bad person. Don't ever say that again" he said and I nodded, weakly.Theo groaned aloud and I rushed to his side."Water" he croaked.I propped his head up and placed a glass of water to his lips. When he'd drained it, I placed the empty glass on the night stand."Are you feeling better?" Lucian asked"Yeah" he replied."Alright, then. I'm leaving" he said and left."You should get some sleep" Theo said to me."Yeah.... right" I said.I hadn't exactly brought comfy clothes with me."Are you going to sleep in those tight jeans?" He asked and my cheeks turned pink."Come on, Dev. Don't be shy" he said and I blushed harder. He got out of his bed and I opened my mouth to protest. It was of no use anyway. He took out a black T-shirt and handed it over to me. "Thanks" I said and slipped into the bathroom.I took a refreshing shower and put on his shirt. It hung midway down my thighs. I dried my hair and let it tumble down my back. His shirt smelt like him.Pine and lemons. It was so relaxing.I stepped out of the bathroom, nervously. He was lying on his bed, eyes closed. He opened his eyes and gazed at me with a smirk on his face."Well, you look better than I look when I wear that shirt" he said and my cheeks caught fire. "Lie with me" he said. I laid down beside him and he held me close to himself, my head on his chest. I could literally feel the warmth coming from him. I closed my eyes, letting out a soft sigh."I'm sorry" I whispered."It's not your fault, Dev" he whispered."You're still a bit feverish" I said. "I'll be fine" he said, stroking my hair.It was just him and me. That was all that mattered right now...I slept off for a bit in Theo's arms and dreamt of staking Theo right through the heart. My eyes shot open and I took shaky breaths, trying to get myself to calm down but I couldn't. Tears pricked my eyes, threatening to spill. I'd almost gotten him killed. What if he'd actually died? I whimpered, burying my face against Theo's chest. I couldn't stop the sobs that escaped my lips. I felt him rub my shoulders, it only made me sob harder."Don't cry, love" I heard him say and I shook my head weakly. I raised my head, gazing into his half- opened eyes. I didn't care if I was a mess. "You don't know what really happened, Theo. I've never been so terrified. I almost killed you. I feel so horrible. I can't-"He placed a long, elegant finger on my lips, silencing me. "Breathe" he said and I let out a sigh. I took a deep breath."Now tell me. What happened exactly?" He asked."There's a guy in my school. His name's Kayden. He's like the school's biggest nerd. The day after the masquerade ball. I started to notice how similar you two were and I- kinda got caught up with it all"He remained silent, watching me carefully as he traced small circles on my arm. "He asked me out on a date few days ago and I couldn't refuse. I wanted desperately to refuse him.... but it was impossible. I agreed. But yesterday, I was having second thoughts about it.... that was right before you visited"Theo was frowning at this point, his muscles tense."It was like a horrible coincidence. He sent me a message""What did it say?" He asked.I grabbed my phone from the night stand and showed him the message. His frown deepened."When I went on a date with him, it was like I wasn't in control. I kept talking and I don't even remember most of it. I don't know if I told him about us and I feel so dirty.....so used. I was so terrified when he said you were going to burn. It took everything in me just to free myself from his hold. I shouldn't have agreed to go out on a date with him. It's all my fault, don't you see that?" I said and raised my head to look at him. I was shocked to see him smiling at me, fondly."It's not your fault, Dev. You couldn't control it. You couldn't fight it. We just have to find the son of a bitch" he said and I smiled."My mum told me I'm going to have to get married to the son of one of my dad's business associate" I said. He bit his lower lip, still drawing weird shapes on my arm. "He's not a problem. We'll figure it out" he said.I stared at him."You're not mad at me for not telling you before now?""I'm not mad at you, okay?"I nodded and closed my eyes as his thumb wiped off my tears. The digital clock read 3: 58am. I had to go home right away but I didn't wanna leave. I just wanted to lie in his bed, wrapped in his arms forever. I don't want to sound selfish but that's just how I felt."One day, we'll have plenty of time to do that. You should go home, Dev. You don't want to be grounded, do you?" Theo said and I gasped. How did he-"Did you just read my mind?" I asked, eyes wide."You were lost in thought, just wanted to know what you were thinking" he said, smirking. My cheeks went pink. "Don't worry, love. I'm all yours" he said, brushing my hair away from my face.I placed the back of my hand on his forehead. He wasn't feverish anymore. "I'm fine now, you don't have to worry" he said, flicking my nose with his finger, gently."Hey!" I said, pouting."You're so cute" he said and I laughed."I'm so glad I met you, Theo. I'm going to make up for what I did. I promise" I said and he smiled, dimples popping out."You should" he said and I grinned before putting on my jeans. I grabbed my hoodie and put it on.I pressed a kiss to his forehead. "Now, get some sleep" I said. The door opened, a silver eyed Lucian walked in, dressed in a black hoodie and a jacket. He had a black thigh holster on with several knives and a mean looking sword. Woah."Come on, princess. Time to go" he said, smirking.I rolled my eyes and left the room with him. I got into my car. "Drive. I'll follow you" Lucian said."You don't need to-""Theo wants me to. Trust me, you have no idea what you're dealing with. Several creatures roam the streets by this time. It's better I keep an eye on you" he said and I smiled. He was such a good friend. As I drove, I looked back to see Lucian hovering above my car with silver wings stretched wide.'Holy Macaroni!' I thought as I marveled at the astonishing sight.I drove in safely and sneaked into my room."Do have a great day, princess" Lucian said to me and flew out of my window with wings stretched wide.It was beautiful. I started to wonder what Theo's wings would look like.I let out a contented sigh and closed my eyes, letting the cool breeze make contact with my face.DEVON "Dev, honey. I'm so sorry for everything that has happened these past few days" My mum said to me as I had breakfast on Saturday morning. I stared at her, still shoving my pancakes into my mouth."Why aren't you saying anything?" She said, letting out an exasperated sigh. She'd been making a very long speech concerning Casper and I. I hadn't uttered a word and she was not happy about that."Devon, why won't you say anything?""Oh, I don't know. Maybe, it's because I have pancakes shoved half-way down my throat" I said, giving her a pointed look."I know you're not happy with everything that has been going on. It's your father's decision, not mine. I want you to get married to the one you love, someday. But your dad decided it was necessary to take precautionary measures" she said."What are you talking about, mum?" I asked, frowning."I'm not supposed to tell you..." She said, pinchin
THEO Luke stepped into the sitting room with a grim look on his face. I raised a brow, watching him carefully. "The council isn't too happy with you, Theo," Luke said to me with a frown on his face. I stared at him, watching him carefully."I don't understand why," I said and he shook his head, amusement written all over his features. "I think they're trying to find out what you are hiding. They were very displeased when they found out that you missed a patrol,"I clenched my fist, annoyance slowly rising to the surface. "But, that was only one night. I didn't miss a patrol because I wanted to. I was feeling too unwell to go," I said and Luke gave me an exasperated look. "They believe that your loyalty is not with the hexagon. They think you have something to do with the recent demon summons," Luke said. "Wow, such a wonderful observation. Why on earth would they
DEVON "My brothers want to meet you," I said to Theo as I entwined our fingers together. We were both sitting on the bed in my room with my head resting on Theo's shoulder."I don't think that's a good idea. How is it possible that they can see me?" Theo asked.I shrugged."I don't know. Maybe you could figure it out when you meet them. Are you afraid of them?" I asked, tilting my head to look at him with a smile on my lips."Pfft. Afraid? Nah. I'm just being cautious."I grinned, tracing the golden tattoo around his wrist with my free hand."You look stressed," I pointed out and he gave me a half smile."I do?""Yeah.""Well for starters, I have a lot on my mind and I'm trying to think of ways to get your brothers to like me," he shrugged"How sure are you that they're not going to like you?" I asked."It's logical . Brothers hate their sister's boyfriend. It's always like that. The first mee
DEVON "Dev, honey! Get the door!" My mum yelled from the kitchen. I smoothened my yellow dress and walked up to the door. I was nervous, though. I twisted the door knob and opened the door. Theo stood there dressed in a white v-necked T-shirt and a blue hooded sweatshirt, paired up with blue jeans and white sneakers. "Hey" he breathed, beaming at me. "You look really nice" he commented and I blushed, stepping aside for him to come in. "Is that your boyfriend?!" Mum yelled from the kitchen."Yes, mum!" I replied.I heard footsteps from the kitchen and from the stairs. 'Great, here goes' I thought"Shit, I think this is a bad idea" Theo muttered and I squeezed his hand reassuringly. "There's no going back now" I said. "Will my mum be able to see you now?" I asked. He nodded. My mum stepped into view and she gasped, eyes wide."Oh, good gracious. Why? He's gorgeous" she breathed. "Mum, th
LUKE I opened my eyes only to realize that I was in the hexagon HQ. I was strapped to a chair, iron cuffs binding my wrists to the arm rest with a gag around my mouth. Awesome. I tried to move but let out a hiss of pain as the iron around my wrist burned me. "You're awake, I see"I looked up to see Dwain smirking at me, he looked very pleased with himself.I glared at him wanting nothing but to rip off his head. "Great, let's begin" he said, still smirking at me."Remove the gag, Aron" he said to someone who was standing behind me. Just as Aron took off the gag, I increased my heat and he dropped to the ground, unconscious. "How can you even do that with iron cuffs around your wrists? I knew my assumption was correct. You are related to Theo, aren't you?" Dwain said.I rolled my eyes. "Of course, he's my husband" I sassed and his eyes darkened. "There's no need
DEVON Rachel went downstairs to get Luke some water, leaving Theo, Luke and I alone."What exactly did he ask you to do?" Theo said to Luke, his body rigid.Luke heaved a sigh and rubbed his eyes."I'm guessing you've already seen the pain pill" he said and I narrowed my eyes.Pain pill? What the hell?"Dwain asked me to sever the ties between you and Devon"I froze, eyes wide. "I refused, but somehow he has it in that sick and twisted mind of his, that I'm going to give in, because of the pain" Luke groaned.I exchanged bewildered glances with Theo.'Gosh, whoever Dwain is, he's an awful looser lord' I thought."I'm guessing he told you that he's the only one who can help you take it off" Theo said, pacing back and forth with his jaw clenched. "He did. Stop pacing, you're making me feel dizzy" Luke groaned and he halted. Theo narrowed his eyes and slowly started taking measure
THEO "Theo?" Devon said to me as I ran a hand over her arm, absentmindedly."Yeah?" I replied. We were both lying in bed few minutes after Melvin had left. Devon had called her mum and had told her that she was going to be having a sleepover at Karla's house. "What's on your mind?" She asked, drawing weird shapes on my chest. I closed my eyes, Melvin's words replaying in my mind.'He knows what you are, Theo. He's going to try everything he can, to get rid of you. He hates you and wants you dead because he thinks you're a threat to him. He despises the fact that you have so much power. You have to strike him with his own weapon even if it means using the last ounce of energy you have'."You're not scared, are you?" She asked. I smiled, tucking her hair behind her ear."I'm not" I said."I'm just worried though. We don't know what Dwain actually wants to do" she said. "Everything is going to be fine"
THEO "Hello soulmate"I felt my blood boil as soon as I heard that statement. Of course, I realized what was actually happening. Kayden wasn't the problem here. The demon inside him was."Leave Devon out of this" I said, clenching my fist."Fine. Catch" Kayden said and pushed her towards the broken window. Devon stumbled and almost fell through it. I quickly moved to her side and prevented her from falling."He didn't tell you, did he?" Kayden/the demon inside him said. Devon went rigid. She was pissed off. She's always hot when she's mad."Theo. What. Is. He. Talking. About!" Devon said through gritted teeth.Luke stepped out from one of the classrooms, looking very grim. His eyes widened when he saw what was happening."Calm down, Dev. He's-""Tell her, Theo. Tell her that I own you! Tell her that you're mine!" Kayden said.I rolled my eyes, Luke met my gaze.'Do it' I said to him throu

"My queen, you have to hurry right now. The king needs you" That statement sent me into overdrive. I'd been queen for barely three months but everything had been going just fine until now. I was just arriving from a meeting with other queens of the four lands owing to the fact that I'm the queen of all queens. I'd only been gone for three days. As soon as I'd stepped into the palace, Lylla, my personal maid had approached me immediately with a look of urgency in her forest green eyes. Naturally, I was overcome with worry and concern for my husband. I hurried upstairs to his chamber only to find Luke by my husband's bedside. He was trying to restrain my husband and things didn't look too good. I hurried to his side, my gaze sweeping over my husband's chiseled chest and defined abs which was covered with sweat. His handsome face was etched with pain and he didn't look well. I noticed the bruises around his wrists, my heart breaking when I realized that he'd been tied
THEO "..... He's going to be fine..... coronation........days.....he wakes up......"I tried to move my hands but realized that I couldn't feel them. I felt like I was floating.Hovering above the clouds, quietly. I could hear bits of Luke's statement and could only assume that it was just Luke and Devon who were in the room with me."..... be fine...."A hand held mine and soft lips were pressed to my knuckles. It was Devon, I realized. Through the mindlink, her emotions entwined themselves around my subconsciousness like a cocoon. She was afraid.Yet, anxious and worried. What had happened? Why was I unconscious? Why was Devon anxious and uncertain? "Open your eyes, damnit" Devon said and I desperately wanted to smile but I still couldn't move. "If you don't open your eyes right now... I'll.... I'll..."That did it for me. I felt like my body had just been electrocuted back to life. That is, if that makes any sense. I lifted my eyelids and
DEVON With tears still running down my cheeks, I looked up to behold the goddess. She looked every inch as beautiful as a goddess can be. Theo shuddered in my arms; his body temperature was soaring by the minute with pain etched on his handsome face. The goddess' height and curves would put a model to shame. Her porcelain skin glowed like she was illuminated on the inside. Her wavy brilliant white hair hung below her waistline and her eyes were a stunning blue. She was wearing a white dress which exposed most of her cleavage with long slits on the sides of the dress. On her biceps were a pair of silver arm bands. She stood few feet away from us, barefooted."Yaran Zrēlyen" she said, her voice both authoritative and soft. I stared at her, startled by the name she'd called me."Do not be puzzled, soulmate of the flame keeper of the four lands. For I have called you by your true name. Your soulmate has asked for my help with defeating his en
THEO Devon stormed out of the sitting room as soon as Luke announced that we were going to battle tonight. She'd gone impossibly pale and I was terrified for her."I'll be right back" I said to Luke and Liam who nodded in understanding. I found her on my bed when I walked into my room. Her face was buried into the pillow with her fingers clutching the pillow fiercely. She was crying, her body trembling under the weight of her grief. I heaved a sigh and moved over to her side. Slowly, I eased her away from the pillow until she was in my arms, her face buried in the crook of my neck as she sobbed. I slowly stroked her soft hair with my fingers, offering her comfort as much as I could."It's okay, Devon. We're going to be okay. you don't have to be scared, love" I whispered. She sniffled weakly, then she raised her head to meet my gaze with her bloodshot eyes."I don't want to be scared but there's a sinking feeling in my stomach. Amyra
DEVON After Theo and Luke had buried Veronica's body later that night, I stood in the front porch, staring at the moon. I couldn't help but feel uneasy about everything that had been happening. Theo had brought the mirror of mirrors home, but we were taking a huge risk as it was. Theo could loose his soul--A soul which he possesses because he's half human.A shudder ran through me when I imagined the possibilities of Theo becoming soulless. He'd become an empty shell. Would he still love me even then? Would he forget me? Technically, I was his soulmate. What will become of us when his soul is lost?My heart gave a painful jolt when I imagined Theo with black soulless eyes. I can't let that happen to him; to us. We'll find a way. We have to.Strong arms circled my waist from behind me and I closed my eyes relaxing in his hold. "What's on your mind?" Theo asked."You, Us" I sighed."Things doesn't look too good for us, d
THEO Yaran defiantly met Amyra's rigid gaze with her face impassive."And who might you be?" She asked, her yellow eyes cold and calculating. "I am Amyra-""I know who you are, mistress of evil. You have not answered my question" Yaran spat, her yellow eyes burning brightly. Amyra's face twisted into a wicked sneer. "I do not answer to anyone but myself" she spat. "I see. What makes you think I will let you have the mirror of mirrors?""Who says I'm asking for your permission? I don't care who you think you are, but he is not leaving here with the mirror of mirrors" Amyra said, pointing at me with a look of disdain on her face. As soon as she finished making the statement, her men attacked me. They were strong I'll give them that. But, they were no match for me. Amyra's eyes clouded with rage at the sight of the dead bodies scattered around me."Good thing I have a plan B" she said, her lips curled with disdain."Annie
AMYRA "Go on, Sweet Veronica. Tell me everything" I purred, stroking my prisoner's blood stained hair. She shuddered, whimpering as she cradled her broken arm- which was the fourth bone I'd broken in her body since I'd begun the interrogation. "I can do this all day, Ronnie. Why won't you just give in. It's that simple" I sighed. "Never" she croaked."That's okay with me" I said, smirking. I grabbed a pair of tweezers and ripped off her fingernails. Her screams echoed in the room. But, when she still refused to give in, I was pissed off.I broke three more bones in her body. This time, she passed out. I squatted in front of her and began to probe into her mind. I'd tried probing into her mind earlier but she'd resisted me. She's so strong, defiant and loyal. It's such a pity that she's on the wrong side. She would've been an asset to me. I concentrated harder, digging my fingernails into her scalp as I assessed her mind. "Did you find what you we
DEVON "I can't just sit back and do nothing while you're planning on embarking on a suicide journey to the night court!" I exclaimed, following Theo into his room. He ignored me and I swear, I was starting to loose my mind."Theo, I want to come with you" I said. He kept ignoring me.After Ric's arrival at Victoria's house, Theo had insisted that we leave immediately. The drive back home had been uncomfortable. I'd tried to talk Theo into letting me go with him to the night court; he'd only grown more upset. "Theo, you aren't saying anything" He abruptly turned to face me, his eyes blazing like golden flames."I just want you to stay here. You'll be safe here. You'll be helping me by staying safe" he said."Fat lot of good that's going to do for any of us! What about you?! You're going to get yourself killed. You said it yourself. The night court is a dangerous place!""All I ask is that you leav
