Chapter Forty: The Alpha’s Fury

Nicholas's POV

The moment James stepped into the room, I knew something was wrong. His usually confident stride was tentative, and his eyes darted away from mine as he approached.

"Emma wouldn’t come with me," he said, his voice low but firm.

The words hit like a punch to the gut. My fists clenched, knuckles white. "What do you mean she wouldn’t come?" I demanded, barely keeping my rage in check.

James took a deep breath. "She thinks it's best for both of you if she keeps her distance for now." He hesitated, searching for the right words. "She needs space."

The thought of facing another day without her was unbearable. "Space?" I spat the word, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. "I've had enough space. I need her here, now."

"I understand," James said, his tone measured. "But you can't force her to come back. She needs time."

My control snapped. "Time?" I seethed. I don't have time, James. I need her here!" My chair squeaked as I gripped the arms, and I felt just as trapped in my emot
