Arguement

Mrs. Scofield's gentle voice cut through the tension. "Why are you raising your voice, Electra?"

Electra's response was laced with anguish, her anger palpable. "Why wouldn't I raise my voice, Mum?" she asked, her words trembling.

Her eyes, brimming with unshed tears, locked onto her mother's. "You're planning an arranged marriage for me without consulting me first, knowing what I endured in my previous marriage."

The pain Electra had thought was long buried rose to the surface, her voice cracking under the weight of her emotions.

Just then, Mr. Scofield re-entered the study, his brow furrowed in concern. "What's going on here? Are you both fighting again?" he asked, his deep voice a calming presence.

The room seemed to pause, the air thick with unspoken emotions. Electra's shoulders sagged, her body language screaming defiance and hurt.

Mrs. Scofield's expression transformed, her voice dripping with venom. "You're talking about what you passed through? Was it my fault?" she spat, her words laced with accusation.

"You stole our money and ran off to marry a stranger you met in two weeks!" Mrs. Schofield slammed her hand on the table, the sound echoing through the room.

"You didn't even let us meet him because we rebuked you for your reckless decision. And then...and then you got divorced while carrying his child!"

Mrs. Scofield's voice rose, her anger boiling over. "I managed to forgive you after many years, and now that I want you to move on, you question me? What audacity!"

She shot to her feet, her eyes blazing with indignation.

Electra's face set in determination, her own anger igniting. She clapped her hands together, the sharp sound cutting through the tension.

"I know you want to remind me of history, Mother," Electra said, her voice firm, "but I remember everything vividly. The shame, the heartache, the struggle."

Her voice escalated, matching her mother's intensity. "But thinking I'll enter an arranged marriage and abandon my daughter? That's not possible!" Electra screamed back, her words echoing off the walls.

The study reverberated with the weight of their confrontation, the air thick with unresolved emotions. Mr. Scofield stood frozen, his eyes darting between his wife and daughter, helpless to intervene.

Electra's chest heaved, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I won't get married to anyone, even that's what you want"

Mr. Scofield intervened, his voice calm and measured. "I think this isn't something we should make a fuss about. Lora, you know I asked you if it's okay to ask Electra, but you said there's no need. We all know she's not a child."

Mrs. Scofield's expression darkened, her eyes flashing with anger. She whirled on her husband, her voice venomous.

"I know you'll always take her side, but it's time you supported me. Now, I'm warning you: choose between me and your daughter," she threatened, her words hanging in the air like a challenge.

Electra's eyes widened in shock, her gaze darting to her father. Mr. Scofield's face reddened, his voice rising in anger.

"Lora!" he shouted, struggling to maintain control. It was a rare outburst, the first time he'd raised his voice at his wife in years.

Mrs. Scofield stood tall, her eyes blazing. "Scofield Brown, shout my name and I'll shout yours!" she fired back, her retort dripping with malice.

The room fell silent, the tension palpable. Electra felt like an outsider, witnessing the fracture in her parents' relationship. The study, once a sanctuary, now seemed a battleground.

Mr. Scofield's chest heaved, his anger barely contained. "Lora, how can you say that? We're talking about our daughter's happiness," he pleaded, his voice laced with desperation.

"We all know she'd be happy if she married Tiana's son," Mrs. Scofield declared, her voice unwavering. "She would always be happy."

Mr. Scofield's expression turned skeptical. "How sure are you?" he asked, striving to maintain calm. "You haven't seen the boy in years. You don't know the type of person he's grown up to be. Why are you doing this?"

Mrs. Scofield's eyes took on a faraway look, her voice tinged with nostalgia. "They might get along really well once they meet each other."

She paused, her gaze locking onto her husband's. "You know Tiana made us who we are today. If not for her, we wouldn't be here. She's no longer alive, and I couldn't repay her...but I have to keep my promise."

Her voice cracked, emotion welling up. "I promised to let our daughter marry her son. I wake up every day thinking about it."

The room fell silent, the weight of Mrs. Scofield's words hanging in the air. Electra's eyes widened, shocked by her mother's revelation.

Mr. Scofield's face softened, understanding etched on his features. "Lora, I I know you owe it to Tiana, but we can always repay her goodness in another way. We should let Electra make her decisions" he said gently.

Mrs. Scofield's jaw set, determination burning within her. "I'll honor my promise, Scofield. I owe it to Tiana's memory"

"I know Electra didn't plan on remarrying, and we both know she must because she can't take over without a husband," Mrs. Scofield stated, her voice firm. "And no one must know she's divorced with a child."

Mr. Scofield nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I know all that, but we should let her fall in love. She can find someone she truly cares for, instead of forcing them together. We don't even know if the boy will like her. Remember, his father said he's refused to get married."

Mrs. Scofield's gaze remained unwavering. "Sometimes men are like that, until they see what they want," she said, her mind made up.

Her eyes locked onto Electra's, a stern warning in their depths. "You know you have no option but to listen to me. You must start preparing yourself for this," Mrs. Scofield declared, her words final.

With that, she turned and walked out of the study, leaving Electra feeling trapped and her father looking concerned.

The door closed behind Mrs. Scofield, and the room fell silent, heavy with unspoken emotions. Electra's heart sank, her mother's words echoing in her mind like a prison sentence.

Mr. Scofield's gentle voice broke the silence. "Electra, I...I'm sorry. I'll try to talk to her, but..." His words trailed off, his expression helpless. final as she walked out of the study.

"You don't have to apologise father" She said, and walked out leaving her father behind.
