When Zendaya arrived at her house, her heart dipped when she found her father's car already in her driveway.

She took deep breaths to calm herself down before she stepped through the front door, her heart pounding in her chest.

When she got to the living room, Lucas was sitting on the couch, and he had a coffee mug in his hand.

“Good morning,” he greeted, his voice steady, but due to the secrets she was hiding, it felt like he was already accusing her. “Where were you all night?”

Her breath hitched, but she stayed in her spot, as she didn't want to make him suspicious.

‘Have I told you just how much of a terrible liar you are,’ Jayden’s words about her echoed in her, and she frowned a bit as it was time to prove him wrong.

She was an actress and so lying should be something that was easy as it was no different from acting.

“I was at Anaya’s,” she replied. “We stayed up late working on something, and I figured it was easier to just crash there.”

“Are you sure?!” She heard her father

“Hi, stranger” Levi shot back, ruffling her hair. “Your hair is ugly, let me make it better?”“Levi, I'm going to kill you,” she hissed as she struggled to break free. This was something she definitely didn't miss. He was another person who bullied her consistently.“Stop troubling your sister and get in,” Lucas ordered his son, and Levi immediately let go of his father's precious daughter.“I swear one of these days I'm going to…” Zendaya was unable to complete her words as Levi placed a finger over her lips.“You talk too much,” was all he said before getting into the car.‘Brute,’ Zendaya muttered under her breath as she also entered the car.“You came all the way to get me, you missed me didn't you,” Levi smirked at his father who chuckled.“Keep talking and keep digging your own grave,” was all Lucas said in response, and that was more than enough to get her younger brother to shut up.If there was anyone who could control her brother, it was her father, and it was nice to see th

Jayden walked into his company with a fresh set of clothes, as he had gone home to change. Everything was in order, he and Zendaya were doing okay, and she had managed to get Lucas off her back. However, as soon as he stepped into the floor his office was on he knew something was wrong. It looked like having an orderly life wasn't just meant to be. The air was thick with tension, and employees were huddled in small groups, their whispers frantic and faces pale.He frowned, and he immediately made his way toward his office. When he got there, he met Clara, his secretary, pacing near his office door with her phone pressed to her ear. As soon as she spotted him, she hung up and rushed over.“Sir, we’ve got a huge problem,” Clara said, her voice low but urgent. “What kind of problem?” he asked, loosening his tie slightly as he prepared himself for the worst.Clara hesitated, then gestured toward his office. “It’s better if you hear it directly. Jayden leaned back in his chair and he massaged his temple as he was having a headache. His stomach grumbled due to him not having eaten all day, but he ignored it as there were more pressing matters to attend to.Papers were scattered across his desk, along with five empty coffee cups. His tie hung loosely around his neck, and his blazer had been discarded hours ago. He stared at the latest email from the legal team, and he cursed under his breath as his vision blurred slightly. This crisis was like a weight pressing down on his chest, and the frustration of not having immediate answers was like a slap in his face. When his phone buzzed, he almost ignored it, as he was tired of answering calls and messages nonstop since morning. But the name on the screen made him pause, as he had received a text from Zendaya. His sour mood brightened a bit, and he smiled slightly, as it was only Zendaya who was capable of doing such. He quickly swiped to open her message.‘Hey, What are you up t

Jayden leaned back in his chair, still holding his phone, reluctant to let go when he heard her next words, which made his heart sink a little.“Jayden, I have to go. Something just came up. But don’t overwork yourself, okay?”He hesitated in responding, as he didn’t want to admit how much he’d enjoyed their conversation.Sighing, he realized it would be selfish of him to ask her to stay, and so he spoke. “Alright. Thanks for distracting me for a while. Take care of whatever you need to, and... thanks, Zendaya.“Anytime. Bye, Jayden,” she bid him, and he responded, after which she disconnected the call.He stared at the screen for a few seconds after the call ended, and a faint ache settled in his chest. He hated how quickly the distraction she brought into his chaotic day had slipped away. With a sigh, he set his phone down and turned back to the mountain of work before him.The hours dragged by, and the office grew quieter with every passing moment. When he looked at the time, he

When he came back downstairs, he was met with the smell of something warm and inviting, and his stomach growled aggressively, reminding him that he hadn't eaten all day.He was starving.Without wasting time, he followed the smell to the dining room, where he found Zendaya setting the table where the plates of food were neatly arranged.“You did all this?” he asked, stepping closer. She looked up at him, brushing a strand of hair from her face, which left another streak of flour on her forehead. “Is it so shocking that I can.”Jayden chuckled, leaning against the doorway. “I didn’t say you couldn’t,” he raised his hand in surrender. “I'm surprised you did it for me.”“Yeah, well, it only took a few hours. ” she said, carefully placing the last dish on the table. “And I did it for you because you've cooked for me. Nothing more.”“Sure,” Jayden nodded as he knew she was trying to convince herself that what she did was just her repaying him back.He stepped closer, and he glanced at the

“So, how is it?” Zendaya asked after Jayden had taken a bite.“It's nice,” Jayden responded, and the expression on her face fell.“It's terrible, isn't it?” She asked him as she moved to pack the table.Reaching out, he flicked her forehead. “I said it's nice. Stop overthinking it,” he told her.“Now eat, you've worked hard on it,” he told her, and she nodded as he grabbed out a plate and started to dish out the food. “This isn't anything like yours,” she remarked after she had tasted the food. “It’s your first time doing this, you don’t hear me complaining, do you?” Jayden raised an eyebrow. “If you don't want to eat, then that's fine, but I'm going to.”Zendaya sighed, after which she sat and decided to eat the food. Jayden watched Zendaya across the table as they ate in comfortable silence, the clinking of silverware the only sound in the room. The food wasn’t perfect—he could tell the rice was slightly overcooked, and the pie was definitely tougher than it should have been—but

The soft sound of typing filled the air as Zendaya woke up still on the bed. She had been hearing that sound for some time, but she had chosen to ignore it.However, she couldn't anymore, which was the reason why she had opened her eyes. She blinked, adjusting to the lighting of the room. It took her a moment to realize what had woken her up, and when she did, a deep frown appeared on her face. The faint glow of a laptop screen and the unmistakable silhouette of Jayden on the same sofa he had been on when it fell asleep. She frowned, rubbing her eyes as she sat up. Glancing at the clock on the nightstand, she saw it was three fifteen. Her frown deepened and she quietly got out of bed. Jayden was so engrossed in the screen that he didn't notice her getting out of bed. His brows were furrowed, his jaw tight, and his fingers moved over the keyboard. She saw a nearly empty cup of coffee beside him.“Seriously?” Zendaya’s voice broke the silence in the room, and it startled him.Jayden

Jayden stood near the center of the room, talking to friends when he caught sight of Lucas approaching him.“Excuse me,” he said to the men he was talking to and he walked towards Lucas.“Enjoying the party?” Jayden asked with a smirk.Lucas shot him a look, which showed that he had been forced to be there probably by his wife and daughter. “I still don't like you. Don’t push it,” he warned.Jayden pouted as he pretended to be sad. “Don’t say that father-in-law,” he said and he had to stifle his laughter at the horrified expression Lucas always gave whenever he called him that. After he was discharged from the hospital, he and Lucas sat down to have a chat about Zendaya and his relationship.Lucas' words were simple, “Hurt her and you die.”He wondered w

Her wrists were tied tightly behind her back, the coarse rope digging into her skin as she moved. Panic immediately set in as she struggled, her breaths quick and shallow. The faint creak of a door opening sent chills down her spine as she turned in the direction of where the sound had come from. “Who’s there?” she demanded, her voice hoarse. “What do you want?”The figure didn’t respond immediately, stepping closer until the overhead light flickered on. The sudden brightness made her wince, but when her eyes adjusted, her blood ran cold as she saw who was in front of her.“Anil?” she whispered in disbelief. He stood before her, a cruel smile on his face that sent shivers down her spine. The receptionist’s voice on the phone had been calm but grave when she’d informed them of Jayden’s accident. Jasmine’s heart hadn’t stopped pounding since as her mind conjured every worst-case scenario about Jayden and how he was doing. Justin walked beside her, his face pale and tight with worry.“What do they mean someone hit him and then disappeared?” Jasmine muttered, her voice trembling. “Who does that? Who leaves someone on the road like that?”Justin placed a hand on her back, and he rubbed it gently. Though his expression was grim. “We’ll find out. Let’s focus on Jayden first.”The moment they reached the nurse’s station, a staff member gestured them toward a private room. “He’s stable,” the nurse reassured them quickly, seeing the panic etched on their faces, and it made them calm down a bit. “The doctors did a thorough examination, and his in

Jayden drove aimlessly through the city, the steady hum of the car engine doing little to drown out the storm raging in his mind. As he remembered his father’s revelation, he felt suffocated. His hands clenched the steering wheel with such intensity that his knuckles turned white, and the faint creak of the leather beneath his grip was the only sound competing with his labored breathing.Jasmine isn’t my mother. The thought repeated itself over and over, echoing in his mind. He couldn’t believe it. She was the woman who had raised him, loved him, been there for him through every high and low. She wasn’t his real mother.Every memory of her felt tainted now, overshadowed by the truth. The fact that they had hid it from him for all of his life and probably wouldn’t have told him had the article not come out was a slap to his face. The betrayal hit him in waves, each one stronger than the last. Why hadn’t they told him? Why had they waited until the news forced their hand? He thoug

Jayden drove home in a haze, his hands gripping the steering wheel, and he imagined his being someone's neck. He subconsciously tightened his grip on the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white. The article, the headline that Jasmine wasn’t his real mother, echoed in his mind. His mind struggled to make sense of it, but something deep inside him was beginning to put two and two together, and something began to shift. ‘You’re being unreasonable,’ he muttered to him as he shut those thoughts out of his head. The drive home felt longer than it should have been, and when he finally arrived at the mansion, the weight of it all pressed heavily on his chest. As he entered the house, a strange sense of heaviness hit him. It was more than just the eerie quiet that settled over everything; there was something palpable in the air. “Your parents are in their room, sir.” The helper who opened the door informed him. Jayden nodded, his heart pounding harder as he made his way up
