Aiden POV

When | lifted my gaze, the last person I expected to see was standing here. I know why he came, and it's because | chose Miley to return to America.

"You here? | thought you would avoid me for the rest of your life... How long has it been since it was just you and me? Three years?"

Nathan: "Why the hell did you send Miley over there? You know what she's been through, how frightened she has been all these years, and you sent her alone to confront those people? What kind of person does that?" I pushed his hand off my neck and sighed. I anticipated this reaction, yet it stings regardless. I'm prepared, to be sure, but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. Beyond that, |am also enraged.

"What's wrong with that? Miley agreed to go, | didn't force her. She knew what was in store but she consented. Are you afraid that upon seeing that person again, she might choose them over you? Are you that clueless? He'll never love you. In fact, I'd wager she forgives him before showing the slightest interest in you." | hadn't intended to spew such venom. I neither want nor expect Miley to forgive that person. I, better than anyone, understand her resilience. | thought long and hard before sending her off, but until she confronts it, she'll be chained to her past. I want her to be happy, even if, in the end, she chooses the very person | have loved.

Nathan: "Shut up! Dad would be disappointed with you."

Aiden: "And why is that? Because | set my sights on someone | should have seen as a big brother, or because I'm merciless with the family's angel?"

Nathan: "Stop this or I will. I'm not letting you force Miley to continue with this." Have I truly become the villain of the story? Well, that's fine by me.

"Force her? By all means, go and ask her.

In fact, if you actually manage to change her

mind, which | doubt you can do, I'll take her place."

Nathan: "What on earth did you tell her to persuade her?"

"Hmm, well, | can't recall. My memory is quite poor, but | will tell you | was persuasive enough for Miley to make her decision." He struck my desk; he's infuriated.

"You want to hit me?" He turned around, taking deep breaths.

Nathan: "If anything happens to Miley, I'll never forgive you, Aiden. You better fix this."

"Please close the door on your way out." He slammed the door so hard; | bet he nearly broke it. Now it's official: he hates me. But what really irks me is how, even when he rejects me with such desperation, he continues to act like the perfect elder brother, always patient and kind, even after

the way | acted that time...

If Dad had known, he would have been deeply disappointed. The only one who ever supported my impossible dream was Jessica, but she left us too soon. Everyone | care about, in one way or another, ends up leaving. If | can finish what Dad wanted for Miley, that's enough for me.

"Sir, your doctor called again. He says it's urgent." Again? | only felt unwell once, and that was weeks after Dad passed. I've been fine, but he persists. It's bothersome.

"Tell him I'll see him this afternoon. Annoying, but I'll go; otherwise, he won't leave me in peace. | know | need to eat well, sleep more, all that nonsense. But | have so much on my plate. Running such a large company isn't easy, especially with so many conflicts. I'll just nod and agree.

"Mr. Hales, please take a seat." I declined his offer. There's an international virtual conference right on my heels.

"I've got five minutes, so please, doctor, be

brief."

Doctor: "Well, let's see. The tests weconducted weren't favorable..." I already knew. The blasted migraines are the one thing | cannot shake, but what can | do? My lifestyle cannot change.

"Just give me the prescription and recommendations..."

Doctor: "You're not understanding, Mr. Hales. Your situation is serious." His face is very grim. | knew my neglect would have consequences, but this is too soon.

"How serious?"

Doctor: "Potentially fatal. More tests are necessary, but everything points to a brain tumor."

"I'm going to die? Ha, ha!" but honestly, | don't know how to feel. It's as

Doctor: "What is amusing to you?" I suppose my reaction isn't quite expected,if there's a curse on my family: first Jessica, then Dad. Now it's my turn.

"How long do | have?"

Doctor: "More tests are needed, perhaps

treatment, or even surgery. | can't beprecise with only this data..."

"Cut to the chase, doctor. How long?"

Doctor: "If the tests are correct, maybe six months, but there's a chance that..."

"Thank you, doctor."

Doctor: "Mr. Hales, where are you going?" | paused at the door; the clarity of thought I'm experiencing is unbelievable.

"To get my affairs in order. Six months will

fly by."

Doctor: "But don't you want to consider

other options? You have the means. My diagnosis isn't definitive."

"Yes, | know." | left. For hours, | was clueless, simply sitting and not thinking about anything in particular.

Death is always unexpected. With Jessica, we

saw it coming; with Dad, we never even considered it. Maybe | should listen to the doctor, but getting second opinions, more tests, it all takes time. Who will handle everything in the meantime? As president, I can't just disappear; I'd have to explain why, and | don't want to do that.

| picked up my phone and called.

Aiden: "Hello?" Oh right, he doesn't have my new number.

"It's me."

His silence tells me he didn’t expect to hear from me again.

Nathan:

"What’s going on?"

"You left too quickly, and I couldn’t share the decision I’ve made."

Nathan:

"And what is that? Are you sending me to the North Pole?"

"That would indeed be torture; you hate the cold. But no, as of now, you are the new president of Hales Enterprises."

Nathan:

"Have you lost your mind? Listen, I’m trying to understand you, but it becomes more apparent every day that it’s impossible. You're the only one who truly carries the Hales blood; no one else can take that place."

Someone will have to when I die; I can’t tell him that.

Nathan:

"Besides, no one can manage the business better than you, so I don’t accept it."

"You have no choice; I’m leaving the country indefinitely."

Nathan:

"Where the hell are you? I’m coming over."

I don’t want to see him; I’m afraid, and I won’t be able to keep pretending if I do.

"I’m in a motel, with a beautiful, tired, and naked boy sleeping next to me. Care to join us?"

Nathan:

"Damn it, Aiden,grow up."

I did, long ago; it’s just him who thinks I’m still the uncontrolled maniac in my love life.

"So that’s a no? Shame. Anyway, I’m leaving in a week. I’ll make sure everything is prepared for you and Miley to take over. I can’t do this anymore."

Nathan:

"So you’re just going to run away? You might have been his only biological child, but we all grieved his loss."

"You wouldn’t understand; he wasn’t your blood."

I ended the call and ignored all the subsequent ones.I just stopped going to the office. He doesn't know where I live, so no worries about Unexpected visits.

No matter how many years we lived as a family,we are now strangers.

And I guess the fact that I confessed my feelings to Miley hasn’t helped matters either. He becomes more of a stranger to me by the day, and now I realize I know absolutely nothing about him. There may be days when I can't come, but for now, they are my top priority. Kiara: Mummy? Is it true that Dad lives here? That question hit me out of the blue. Perhaps I'm misreading everything, but they stopped asking about that person after they turned five. "Which Dad are you talking about, Kiara?" Jaden gave his sister a look I'd rarely seen; he was angry. Had they been talking about this? Kiara: Sorry, Jaden, but I do want to meet my daddy. "Kids, who told you this?" All | knew was that it was a considerable period, and | had no mood for work; my mind was a jumbled mess. | arrived at my solitary abode, sequestered myself in my study, and poured myself a drink. I found myself outside a specialized clinic, questioning the accuracy of the address, yet the moment I provided our names at reception, I was given a room number, and a nurse Was promptly asked to escort me there. "It's great that Mr. Hales had a change of heart. The surgery is high-risk, and mental and emotional stability are crucial factors. With your support, it will be much easier for him." What was this woman talking about? Aiden was scheduled for surgery? Why? For what reason? Did he lie to avoid telling us what was truly happening? "What's wrong with my brother?" Logan's POV The sound of the helicopter blades whirring above us was deafening, cutting through the silence of the night. I held onto the straps of my seat, feeling the rush of wind and the slight tremor in the aircraft as it veered toward the island. I had no time to waste—Aiden and Nathan were in trouble, and it was up to me to get them out. I wasn’t sure how they had gotten themselves in this mess, but I knew it didn’t matter. They were family now, and I couldn’t let anything happen to them. Not after everything that had happened. I turned to the man beside me, who was checking the weapons and equipment. "Are we clear?" I asked. He nodded, a grim look on his face. "We’re good, sir. The intel says the compound is heavily guarded, but we’ve got the element of surprise on our side." I exhaled sharply, my mind racing with thoughts of Aiden and Nathan. They hadn’t taken their usual precautions, and now they were paying the price. But I would get them out. I had to. No one threate

Aiden's POV The door swung open again, and the man who entered sent a chill down my spine. His unsteady gait was the first thing that caught my attention—he wasn’t walking like someone in control. He swayed from side to side, his eyes wide and unfocused, a strange, eerie grin plastered across his face. He wasn’t just disturbed; he was high on something, no doubt about it. My pulse quickened as he locked eyes with me. I could see it—the madness, the unstable nature of the man who stood before us. He seemed unpredictable, barely in control of his own movements. But even in this deranged state, there was something terrifying about him. Something dangerous. The door clicked shut behind him, and he smiled—an unsettling, too-wide smile that didn’t match the situation. "You two, huh? Think you’re clever, running away. Trying to escape what’s already written for you?" His voice slurred slightly, but the venom in his words was sharp and clear. Nathan, standing beside me, tensed up, his

Aiden’s POV The week leading up to our honeymoon had been a whirlwind of wedding celebrations, family gatherings, and finalizing every last detail. Nathan and I were finally able to slip away for a much-needed break. It was the first time in years I’d felt like I could truly breathe, and I intended to make the most of it. The sun was setting as we boarded our private jet, the cabin filled with the soft hum of the engines. Nathan was already reclining in his seat, a peaceful smile on his face, as if he, too, was finally allowing himself to relax. The plan was simple: a secluded island, a luxurious resort, no distractions, no stress. Just us. “Can you believe we’re finally doing this?” Nathan asked, glancing over at me with that familiar grin that made my heart skip a beat. I chuckled, reaching over to take his hand. “I can’t. It feels surreal, like everything is finally falling into place.” As we flew over the ocean, the city lights below slowly faded, and the endless expanse of

Logan’s POV The day after Aiden and Nathan shared their big news, everything seemed to speed up. Miley and I had barely unpacked from our vacation when we were thrust into the whirlwind of wedding preparations. It felt like everything was happening so fast, but I knew Aiden and Nathan were determined, and honestly, I was excited for them. Their decision to get married so fast didn’t faze me—it felt right, and that was all that mattered. Miley was taking a more practical approach, though. She wasn’t one to go all-out with things like this, so I knew she would help them keep things simple but meaningful. The problem was, Aiden and Nathan were starting to have some of the same ideas—both were perfectionists, and it looked like a grand event was on the horizon. It was the weekend, and Miley and I had just finished breakfast when Aiden called to check in. “Hey, Logan,” Aiden’s voice came through the speakerphone. “Miley around?” “She’s here,” I said, looking over at her as she

Logan’s POV We had just gotten back from our trip, and I could see how much Miley had relaxed during our time away. The kids were in high spirits, too, still talking about their treehouse adventures, and for the first time in a long while, Miley’s smile seemed genuine. It was like the vacation had given us all a reset we desperately needed. When we pulled into the driveway, I noticed Aiden’s car parked in front of the house. He and Nathan must’ve been waiting for us to get back. I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the sight. Aiden wasn’t exactly the type to pop over without a reason. “Looks like we have company,” I said to Miley, who was just about to open the door. She gave a small sigh. “I wonder what this is about.” We both got out of the car, and the kids immediately bolted toward the door, eager to tell Aiden and Nathan all about their trip. Miley and I exchanged a look before following them inside. --- Aiden and Nathan were sitting in the living room, talking with th

Logan’s POV The sun was shining brightly as we arrived at the cabin, and I could already tell the kids were excited. They had been bouncing around in the backseat for the whole drive, asking if we were there yet, if they could run and explore the moment we got out. Miley, on the other hand, seemed quiet, staring out the window, lost in her thoughts. I hoped this trip would give her a much-needed break from everything. The moment we parked, Jaden and Kiara scrambled out of the car, running towards the door of the cabin like it was the best thing they’d seen in ages. Devon followed calmly behind, making sure they didn’t get too far ahead. Miley and I took our time getting out, unloading the bags, but I couldn’t help but notice her mood—still distant, still a little heavy. “Come on,” I said, holding out my hand to her with a grin. “What do you say we get this vacation started?” Miley gave me a small smile, taking my hand. “Alright, alright, let’s get it over with.” But there was som

Miley stood frozen at the front door, staring at the woman who had once been her mother, the woman who had never once stepped forward in her defense. The room felt suffocating, the weight of the years and all the unspoken words pressing down on her chest. It had been 13 years since she had last seen her mother, and now, after all that time, here she was—standing in her home, asking for forgiveness. Her mother, once vibrant and full of energy, now looked older, tired, and desperate. Her hands trembled as she held them out, as if pleading for Miley’s compassion. “Miley, please… I know I’ve wronged you, but I need you to hear me out. I want to apologize. I know it’s been too long, but I’ve only just come to realize the truth about that night. I was misled, and I was too blind to see what was really happening.” Miley’s heart twisted painfully, but she didn’t allow herself to soften. Do you want me to suffer?” “No games for you if we’re late!” Devon shot back, giggling. Kiara smirked. “I told you this was your problem.
