/Elena's POV/
Despite his hesitance, the hot specimen and I walk into the hotel with our arms linked together. Instead of the hotel security that stopped me earlier to bombard us both with questions or stop us from entering the hotel, we are properly ushered into the hotel, so I am guessing that this hot specimen must be one of the creme de la cream of the society. "Now that I have helped you get into the hotel like you wanted, our deal is off," he speaks up, disengaging himself from me as soon as we approach the elevator. "I hope we can go our separate ways and never cross paths again," he adds, punching the elevator button. "I need the elevator to find the person that I am looking for," I say with an awkward smile, hinting in the direction of the elevator, even though I don't know where to start searching for my dad and the crown prince in such a big hotel. Still, right now, I am not about to look clueless and stupid in front of this hot guy so that he doesn't regret helping me get in. Worse still, he may start imagining the worst about me as a suspicious person with bad intentions. Then he may end up handing me over to security, completely ruining my plans. "I am in a hurry, and I will not be comfortable sharing the elevator with you, so if you want to go in this elevator, we have to go in separately, and I will be the one to go in first," He says with an authoritative voice as he steps into the elevator. "Whatever sails your boat," I reply to allow him to have his way instead of dragging things with him since he has helped me thus far. The elevator door closes, and I sigh as I look around the ground floor, contemplating if I should start my ultimate search from the ground floor or the top floor. "Given the kind of person that my father is, the ground floor is too accessible, and the VIP rooms of the hotel, which are supposed to be on the last floor, are more likely for this kind of meeting, so let's check out the executive suites on the last floor," I decide, as I get into the elevator after a while. I watch the arrow on the little screen on the elevator point upwards. At the same time, I try to go over what exactly I will do to make a mess of my upbringing. Still, my nervousness has made my ideas evaporate into thin air. "When I get to that bridge…. I will cross it," I decide as the elevator finally stops at the top floor and the door slides open. I take deep breaths to mentally prepare myself to start knocking from door to door till I find my dad; as I make my way out of the elevator, I walk towards the first room. "You've got this, babe," I assure myself as I raise my hand to knock on the door, only for the sound of a gunshot from across the room to catch my attention. "Did I just hear a gunshot?" I question myself as I look around to ensure the area is safe. "This is an executive hotel, and the VIP rooms are supposed to have soundproof doors…." I dismiss as I knock on the room door where I want to start my ultimate search. "Knock! Knock!" I knock again, but nobody opens the door. "The security man mentioned earlier that only the important figures in the society are present in this hotel at the moment…." I recall. "understandably, this room is unoccupied at the moment," I encourage myself as I move to the next room. On raising my hand to knock on the door of the next room, I hear someone opening the door of the next room and on checking to see if I would be lucky enough to see my dad stepping out to receive an important call, the person that rushed out of the room is the stranger from the lobby that I made a deal with. "Where is he going in such a hurry that he even forgot to lock the door," I mutter as I take my attention away from him to knock on the room door. I wanted to knock before he distracted me. Still, no one answered, so I decided to move to the next room after the room that the stranger from the lobby left in a rush, only for the sight of someone lying on the ground with blood to catch my attention. Hence, I retrace my step back to get a closer look to ensure my eyes are not playing tricks on me. My breath catches my throat as I stop in my tracks to see the person lying on the floor. "No, no.." I shake my head slowly, breathing heavily against my lips. I try to move my legs to check if the person lying on the ground is still breathing, but my whole body seems rigid, and I can't seem to move at the pace I want to. I take slow strides toward where my father's body lay with his eyes closed and the murder weapon next to him as I bend down to put him on my leg while placing my shaky hands over the hole on the left side of his chest. "Papa ….. it's Riri," I introduce myself by the name that he and my late mom fondly call me as I wait for his reaction. "I know that I am not supposed to be here dressed like this, so if you want to scold me, beat me, or have me grounded again, I won't argue with you, so open your eyes and say something to me," I urge him. However, his body is still in motion when I find it. "Call the ambulance or people that can help him to the hospital, you dummy," the voice in my head screams at me as I quickly place him back in the position where I found him and dashed out of the room. I start to run in the direction of the elevator because the floor seems to be practically empty. Still, on getting to the elevator, the elevator is currently in use. "F*ck! F*ck!" I start to pace around the area waiting for the elevator to be accessible. Still, my patience keeps running out, so I make a run for the stairs. "There is an emergency upstairs….." I approach the first security I see walking towards one end of the next floor, pulling him towards the stairs like a mad woman. "First of all, the hotel is under a major lockdown because we have important figures in pearl coast meeting here, so what emergency are you talking about?" the security personnel questions. "That is the source of the emergency," I answer him without any patience to go into details of the emergency as I continue to drag him. "Can you tell me what exactly is up with you and stop harassing me?" the security man says, refusing to follow me any further. "The prime minister was supposed to be meeting the crown prince of the nation in this hotel, and as his daughter, I came here to sabotage the whole meeting, but I was denied entry, and to get in, I made a deal with a stranger at the lobby, but it turns out that the stranger at the lobby shot my father because I saw him dashing out of my father's room" I explain everything to him. "That doesn't make any sense," he shakes his head in denial. "I know that it doesn't make any sense, but the weapon that was used in driving a bullet into my father's chest is still on the ground in the hotel while my father is just lying on the ground lifeless, so I need you to get a medical team upstairs to tend to him and offer him first aid to see if his life can still be saved," I practically beg him. Still, he seems to be looking up and down at me snobbishly. "I have every right to believe that there was a gunshot situation in the VIP lounge upstairs judging from all the blood on your body," he starts. I nod eagerly, hoping for him to process everything I told him a bit faster than he is. "...Since we have VIPs in the hotel at the moment and you are not properly registered to be in this hotel at the moment, I will have to keep you in custody as a prime suspect for the whole unrest till we clarify that our VIPs are in safe hands," he says as he starts to fish for his handcuff. "This won't do," I hiss as I make a run for the elevator. "I can't believe that I came all the way to get help for my dad, but that incompetent security dared to pronounce me a prime suspect," I hiss after successfully getting into the elevator and taking the incompetent security off my radar./Elena’s POV/I make my way to the ground floor and on getting to the ground floor I could see that someone was thoughtful enough to get the ambulance over there while I was trying to explain things to the incompetent bastard in a security uniform. “What do I do now,” I start to pace around the front of the hotel after trying to get close to accompany the ambulance to wherever my dad had been taken to in vain.“Let’s get my father's right-hand man here,” I decide as I make a run for the parking lot where my dad's car was parked earlier. “Liam right?” I inquire on recalling the driver whom I messed with his intelligence just to be able to get myself into the car trunk and he nods. “What are you doing here ma’am,” he inquires. “My father was gunned down in that hotel so you will have to take me home so that we can get Austin here ….. that way, I will be able to stay with my dad since everyone around knows him but not a single person knows me,” I instruct. “Why don’t we just give hi
|ELENA’s POV| “Is there anywhere you would like to drop by before going home?” The driver inquires after driving me away from the hotel. “I don’t want to go home, but at the same time I don’t know anywhere in town so can you keep driving around till we get to a place where we can grab a nice drink?” I inquire. “Okay ma’am …. I know the best place for you” he says as he ignites the car engine and drives away. I try to relax in the car, thinking about what is going to happen to me now that my father is dead……. I barely have a life, and being another lock and key is the only thing I have gotten used to over the past fifteen years since my father thought that it was going to be a wonderful idea to hide me away. I wanted change so badly, but if I had ever taken a peek into a 30-second trailer of my life and found out that getting the freedom that I wanted would make me lose my father, I would have compromised my freedom. Right now, I feel so numb because I don’t know if I am suppo
/ASHER HARRINGTON’S POV| “It’s bad enough that the prime minister and I finally decided to be seen together in public to finalize a whole lot of things after years of coded communication so that our plans don’t get exposed to the wrong people by using the arranged marriage between the Harringtons’ and the Grayson’s that I have been trying to find a way around because I was not comfortable with getting trapped in an arranged marriage when there are other ways that I can get stuff one, why did I have to walk into the hotel to find Dylan Grayson’s body on the ground when I already made preparations to tighten the security of the hotel in advance?” I ask myself for the umpteenth time. “Can you just stop blaming yourself already?” Malcolm, 3 in one groans from the driver’s seat. “How won't I blame myself?” I question him. “The prime minister lost his life over my carelessness, and it is more than annoying that he got killed right under my nose, and that too when everything that my fat
|Asher’s POV| “What is going on here?” I ask the waiter. “This lady is a new customer that I was trying to introduce to our facilities at RIL, and she seemed like a promising customer, so I talked to my colleagues to allow her to do her thing since she seemed to be in a really bad mood, then come back to proceed with the formalities when she feels a little bit better,” the waiter starts.“Was was her take on that?” I further ask the waiter “She was fine with the suggestion, and she even gave us her premium card to made payment for her membership so I was 100% sure that she is legit,” one of the waiters involved in the commotion explains. “Who says I am not legit?” the stranger from the hotel suddenly jumps in front of the waiter as if she wants to start up a fight. “How can I not be legit when my father is the prime minister of Orion,” she argues. “This is the problem that I have with her, she remembers every other irrelevant thing, and she keeps claiming to be the daughter of th
|ELENA’S POV|The soft morning light filters through the curtains, casting a warm glow on the space while I struggle to open my eyes and slowly sit up, feeling a mix of regret as a result of my pounding headache, dry mouth, and desperate need for water.I notice the rumpled sheets and the faint scent of cologne lingering in the air as I wrap the duvet around my naked body and I stumble out of bed. I groan and hold my head trying to shake off the remnants of the previous night’s activities as I try to search for an aspirin to help dull the pain with a tinge of uncertainty in me, but it turns out that I didn’t return home yesterday night.I feel a mix of emotions, like excitement, curiosity, and maybe a hint of nervousness as I look around the room, trying to take in the details while trying to piece together the events of the previous night. After realizing that I had thrown myself at a stranger and lost my virginity when I was supposed to be mourning my father just because I was in d
/Asher’s POV/My eyes flutter open to the room bathed in a soft morning glow. As I stretch, a hint of nostalgia, a touch of excitement, and perhaps a tinge of guilt dances across my face as Memories of the passionate night before linger in the air, like the fading scent of perfume on our skin.“Fuck!” I exclaim in realization.“The situation just got really messy,” I remark as I take a moment to reflect on my thoughts but a whirlwind of intimacy and connection overshadows me so I scramble to locate my clothes instead. After managing to put on my clothes, I scramble out of the private lounge, trying not to wake my supposed fiancé that I just had a one-night stand with because I didn’t know how exactly to face her, and I start to dial Malcolm's number.“Where did you keep your phone?” He suddenly starts to nag, forgetting that I called him because I have something to say to him.“Where are you right now?” I answer his question with another question.“I am in the palace, trying to conceal
|ELENA’S POV|“How do I navigate my way around a city that I barely know with a frozen bank card, in that skimpy clothing that is all over the news with this face card of mine that is on the decline after I was declared as the prime suspect of my father’s murder case,” I pondered as looked around the room bathed with soft light with a pitcher of water, a chair in the corner, monitor beeping softly, creating a rhythm in the soft room.“At the time that I was brought into this hospital, my face was swollen which was quite distorted from the pretty face that was all over the news, but if I don’t get out of here soon, all my effort at putting my life in danger will be in vain,” I told myself as I carefully removed the iv that was connected to my vein as I got down from the bed and packed up my valuables and the only outfit that I had before I made my way to the door.I opened the door slightly, looked around, and ensured that nobody was watching, and on confirming that the coast was clear
|ASHER’s POV|After getting off the call with Malcolm, I made my way to the hospital that the prime minister was taken to the previous day, and there were a whole bunch of people, both young and old, men and women claiming to be strong supporters of the dark raven and they were demanding to have the body of the prime minister handed to them after they found out on the news that their founder is dead and will not be buried properly because of the link that he had to them while he was still alive so they requested to be given his body so that they can be allowed to perform the las right for him since he had no kids. The whole peaceful protest was starting to get out of hand because the angry mob camped in front of the hospital with different weapons, threatening people as they went in and out of the hospital refusing to leave until the hospital instructed the people in the mortuary to hand over the body.It was quite difficult for the hospital to go about its daily activity when they ha
|ELENA’S POV|“Jayda,” I say as soon as the call connects on the other end.“I have a bad feeling about this,” she says almost immediately.“Bad feeling about what?” I ask her confused “Every time you call my name like that, it means we have a problem,” she states confidently.“My life had been revolving around a whole lot of drama these days and at this point, I am so over it, but I am way too entangled in this drama and I don’t see a way out of it,” I Inform her as I start to seriously panic.“What is it this time?” she inquired sounding uninterested in the conversation.“The prince of hell wants me to plan a welcome party for 500 guests in less than 7 hours,” I inform.“Who is he welcoming?” she asks almost immediately.“I didn’t care enough to ask, but I think it is Celine,” I answer her.“Celine the Princess of Amazonite?” She asks alarmed “How am I supposed to know that?” I ask her “It can only be the Princess of Amazonite,” she says with conviction.“How are you so sure of t
|ELEMA’S POV|I have been stranded outside this building for a very long time, with the early morning cold seeping into my bones as a result of the light clothing that I have on.I have tried everything humanly possible from waving down cars that are going into the palace, to pleading with the security out of desperation, but nothing worked. My frustration is mounting, and I can feel the tears of exasperation trying to spill, but just when I was about to give up, a car pulled up in front of me.I observed the car, looking kind of confused because I didn’t wave the car down, and lo and behold, my eyes landed on the second prince of Orion as he rolled down his glass.“Need a hand?” he inquired and I quickly got up from the ground with relief washing over me.I couldn’t help but smile back at him, my frustration melting away in the face of the unexpected client, as I quickly made my way to the other side of the door that his driver already opened for me to get in.“What are you doing out
|ELENA’S POV|The shrill ring of the phone jolts me awake with my heart pounding in my chest as I fumble in the dim light, knocking a half-empty water bottle off the nightstand before my hand finally finds the offending device. Squinting at the bright screen, I swipe to answer, bringing the phone to my ear."Hello?" l let out with a voice thick with sleep, the word barely more than a mumbled grunt. “Were you sleeping?” the person at the other end of the call inquires and at the question, I run my eyes with my free hand, trying to shake off the remnants of a dream already fading from memory.“Girl!!!” Jayda lets out an exclamation that makes me curious as to why she is the one on the other end of the phone.“Where were you last night?” she inquires and I try to recall the events of the previous night even though my brain is still in the process of booting. “The more detailed you are about your movement the better,” she adds.“After texting you to rant about how stressful my day was,
|ASHER’S POV|“We have a situation,” Malcolm informs as he bursts through the grand double doors of my mahogany-lined office startling me with the interruption. My attention is divided from being on call with Allen as I see Malcom panting slightly, clutching his phone in his trembling hands, with his face holding a mask of urgency.“What is the situation,” I ask him waiting to hear what the urgency is all about.“Her Highness is back from her tour, and as we speak both she and Amelia are fighting in the lounge,” he informs, and my face drains of color as I take in the news. The room is filled with intense silence, broken only by the ticking of the antique clock on the wall as I try to picture the situation and how to tackle it.“Are you not going to intervene in the fight?” Malcolm asks with a sense of urgency in his voice as I quickly get up from my seat to follow him.On getting to the lounge, I see Celine, the princess of Amazonite in a sleek black dress, and Amelia in a fiery red
/ELENA’S POV/“Can I sit here?” Allen inquires but I move away from where I was to make him understand that he is not welcome around me.“I am sorry for what happened earlier,” he apologizes as he takes his seat next to me but I scoff in disdain.“I feel like I must have made you feel stupid by my actions, considering the fact that you blindly trusted me, a stranger but the truth is that I really didn’t want to take advantage of you, I just had to do what I had to do,” he explains.“You don’t owe me an explanation, so just pocket it,” I answer him in a harsh tone, my words laced with disdain.“Come on Elena…” he urges but I look up and down at him condescendingly.“Ever since I started talking to you, I have not lied to you, I only took advantage of your desperation to help you into the palace as per Asher's orders,” he says in an attempt to justify his actions.“It's fine,” I answer him coldly.“You also lied to me to make me help you, so aren’t we even now?” he presents.“You are r
|ELENA’S POV|After staying by the waterfall for a while and trying to figure out what my next move will be in vain, my phone starts to ring, and on checking the caller ID, I realize that Jayda is the one calling.“I know that you have every reason to be angry with me, but can you please forgive me?” Jayda pleads as soon as the call connects before I even get the chance to say anything.“Where have you been?” I ask her, trying really hard to hold myself together.“My cousin was on tour, but she found out that her finance went behind her back to get together with someone else, so she returned home and has been turning everywhere upside down since then,” she starts.“Unfortunately, I was the scapegoat that was sent to her house in a hurry to calm her down, but in the process of rushing I forgot to take my phone along with me and I couldn’t leave my cousin's house because she kept on threatening to crash the party but her identity is quite peculiar, so her crashing the party would have
|ASHER’S POV|“Now that Mrs. Feisty is gone, can you tell me what that was all about?” Allen inquires as soon as Elena walks away and I sigh.“Why are you suddenly sending me away to let her take my place when we both know that she can’t do my job,” he laments.“I need you to do something else,” I inform him.“What can be so important?” he groans.“Keeping an eye on a lot of people,” I inform him.“But I have always been doing that while dispensing my duties well,” he complains.“Fair point,” I admit.“You just need an excuse to keep her close right?” he tries to reason with me.“More like keeping her safe,” I answer him but had sends me a dissatisfied look.“To you or anyone, I may not be transparent because I grew up in the palace where trusting people is not an option but I am still asking you to trust me even if that means asking for too much…keep trusting me till I can tell you,” I admonish.“How does it make sense that you can’t trust me with your deepest secret but I am suppose
|ELENA’S POV|My face etches with disbelief and hurt at the realization of the Prince of Hell controlling my every move behind the scenes without my knowledge.I swallow the lump in my throat and with a final glance at the stranger that I met at the Palace gate, I turn my back and step away feeling heavier than the last. “What was I expecting from a stranger?” Idoff in disappointment.“All the strangers that I have encountered and felt safe around have ended up stabbing me in the gut, so why did I think this was going to be any different?” I question myself as my shoulders slump, and my head is bowed low as if carrying the weight of the betrayal is weighing me down. “The first stranger turned out to be the primary cause of my misery in this country, the second stranger took advantage of my situation and slept with me, while the third one plunged me deeper into this mess,” my eyes brim with tears as I walk away, leaving behind not just the prince of hell and Allen, but a piece of mys
|ELENA’S POV|I crouch to my knee amidst the sea of laughter and chatter, praying so hard that someone will wake me up from the horrible nightmare that I have been plunged into for the last 6 days because I am surrounded by people, yet there's a palpable sense of isolation. After a while of staring into space, I give a smile that doesn’t quite reach my face as I advance with the guests that seem to be forming a cluster at other middle of the hall. I am physically present in the crowd, yet my mind seems to be somewhere else entirely. It’s as if I am in my world, a world where I am the only inhabitant. “What next?” I ask myself on the verge of tears feeling purposeless and useless because the past four days of my life have been spent trying to come up with ways to save Amelia, but it turns out that the person who needs saving is me who gives off finding excuses to justify peoples gutter behavior.“What more do I have to lose apart from what I have lost?” I ask myself as I watch the en
