Elora twisted the knob of the door open, stepping into the bright sitting room. The slamming sound of the door closing alerted her mother of the arrival of someone in the room.

" I'm home" " she announced, collapsing on the couch, tilting her head to the back, and staring at the Chandelier that hung over at the center of the room.

Confirming it was her daughter, " You're back, how was your day dear?", She asked strolling out of the kitchen corner,

" It was nice," Elora replied, getting warm up with the coolness and warmness of the room, unlike where she was coming from," and your,s, Mum?".

" It was good, business was fine", Mrs. Dora said emerging into the sitting room and joining Elora on the couch.

" I thought you were going with Scarlett to see the alpha until I saw your message that you're at Jordan's party instead",

" Yeah..",

" What happened? Why didn't you follow her?",

" She told me she wants to go alone",

" Just like that? Did you guys fight?",

" Not at all. Just some this-that",

" Elora..",

" Mum we did not fight, she just wants to go alone",

" Okay, if you say so."

Dora back down, relaxing on the couch and smoothening her black hair with her cold hands while glancing over at the blonde lady sitting in front of her.

Elora could feel her gaze on her and her mind was getting ready to listen to her next word.

" You know, Scarlett is one hell of a lucky girl, and I wish you were just as lucky",

" I'm lucky too",

" Not as lucky as her",

" Still lucky ",

" Not in any way, imagine how lucky you would be to be mated with an alpha",

" Mum," Elora called, rubbing her forehead in exhaustion, knowing where exactly the conversation was leading.

" You know how perfect your life would be? Especially if it's one of the top four Alphas, your status in the pack would become so different, more power, authority, and respect will...",

" Mum, we talked about this, I have a mate already, and don't forget I'm getting married soon",

" To Jordan? See Lora", she grabbed her hand into hers, " it's not too late, I need you to see that Jordan, a mere omega can't offer you the life an alpha will, I want you to see a bigger picture as I'm doing ",

" Mum stop ",

" I meant well for you Lora, you need to let go of meaningless things and grab one that will make you happy ",

" Like you did with Dad?", she flared up snatching her hands off,

" Lora",

" Stop mum!", she stood up angrily, " Are you happy?",

" This is not about me".

Elora snickered, " Well I am happy, I love Jordan, he's my mate and my fiancee, can't you see how perfect that already is?",

" Well, I can't see that",

" I can; it's my life; it's already perfect as it is; Jordan is caring and loving, understanding and passionate. I know how hard it is not to have mated with him but because I want us to have something different, our first time on our wedding night, upon how hard it is for him he complied",

" So?" Dora stood up, "So what, Lora? Many other werewolves out there can refrain from mating with their partners, what's so special about that?",

" What's special about that is, with everything, we remain loyal to each other, with everything, we've never treated each other differently, with every challenge we're still happy, can you say the same with you, Mum?",

" I don't know what you're talking about....",

" Don't give me that crab! Stop pretending! Stop pretending you don't know Dad is cheating on you with your best friend ".

Dora bit her lips and licked them, quivering uncomfortably, " That's not true."

" Seriously, you..." unable to complete her statement out of frustration, she roughened her hair, and, without saying another word, she stormed out of the house.

Dora did not bother to call after her, she rubbed her trembling fingers over her face and mumbled to herself, " Goodness...she knows".

Feeling hurt and angry, Elora stormed out and was only a few steps away from the duplex when she bumped into Scarlett.

" Scarlett?",

" Elora!", she jumped on her giggling.

Elora's heart was beating fast and while she was still embracing her, she quickly swallowed down a big lump and tried to remain calm. By the time Scarlett broke the hug, she was wearing a smile.

" I really couldn't wait to see you", she cooed,

" I can see that; I'm so happy for you," she pulled her back into a tight hug.

" Thank you", Scarlett chuckled, "C'mon let's go in, I have a whole lot of gist for you",

" No, um. Inside?"

" Yeah? Is everything okay?",

" Yeah sure, let's go in",

" Yes," Scarlett hopped and quickly dragged her in, upstairs to Elora's bedroom, where she hurriedly began to narrate.

Elora giggled as she listened to Scarlett's gist and how great she felt; she was still narrating when a spark of guilt hit Elora as she remembered what she said to Jordan at the party.

(Earlier at the party)

" Why did she accept her?", Jordan asked,

" The Alpha competition is fast approaching, he needs every support he can get, Scarlett's family is wealthy and her father is one of the juries",

" So he's accepting her because of her family and how influential they are ",

" I heard he's been trying to get every support he could",

" That's why you believed he wouldn't reject her cause this is a great opportunity for him",

" Exactly ", She replied unhappily,

" But honestly, aren't all these Alphas competitions unnecessary? I mean..you could just be the head of your clan and that's is",

" That would have been it if not for the severe greed for power, centuries ago, after the werewolves saved the human world to avoid invasion on ours. The praise for the success of the war was mostly given to the Alphas, but some claim that not all Alphas were helpful and that some Alphas were better than others. And that led to one Alpha being recognized more than others and more praised and worshipped. For an alpha to bow down to another alpha is very hard and this led to a clash among the alphas about which alpha is the strongest among all alphas, which alpha is the fastest among all alphas, which alpha should be most obeyed and worshipped, and from there, they seek for hierarchy",

" Hierarchy?",

" Yeah, and that was how alpha competition was created",

" Didn't really know that story",

" Well, I do; it's part of our history. But it was actually hard to tell which one is faster than one, it was always hard to choose and so the jury were forced to look at other perspectives",

" Like wealth?",

" Not just wealth, the one with the most support, how wealthy, how influential, areas of occupation, what they can offer and why they deserved to be bowed to",

" I think I know about that, out of the seven alphas, three are into the business world, two are mafias, and two are into science and technology",

" Exactly and like that, they pass it down from generation to generation ",

" But do they bow down to each other ",

" I don't know but I do know one thing, they have higher authority than one another, they don't necessarily bow, but I do know they must obey and respect ",

" Wow",

" And trust me, the number one Alpha lives like the king of the world; he's untouchable. "

" Elora! Elora!! Are you listening to me?" Scarlett jolted her out of her remembrance.

" Y.yes I'm listening ",

" No you're not, what are you thinking about?",

" Nothing special ", she said with a forced smile.

Scarlett held her hand, " is something bothering you ".

' I'm just hoping he loves you and treats you especially as you deserve ', Elora said in mind,

" What's bothering me is that I'll be the one catching your bouquet and not you catching mine, "she lied, pouting.

Scarlett laughed, "Don't worry, I can still catch yours",

" Scarlett ",

" Hm?",

" Marrying him in a week, isn't that too fast?",

" No, it's not. I like him, Elora, and he was so nice; he assured me of protection, love, and care. There's nothing to be afraid of; he's a good alpha".

Elora gave out a heavy sigh, " if it's okay with you, then no problem ",

" Yes", she giggled happily.

Scarlett smiled admitting she's never seen her that happy before.

The bride’s dressing room was a paradox of beauty and menace. Soft golden light spilled from a crystal chandelier above, casting warm halos onto the walls painted in a muted cream tone. Ornate mirrors stood before the bride and her makeup artist. A bouquet of white roses sat in a porcelain vase, their delicate fragrance nearly masking the faint metallic tang of anxiety that hung in the air. Yet, despite the serene charm of the room, a chilling tension undercut its elegance. The bride's eyes, sharp and unyielding, scanned the room with a clinical detachment, her crimson-painted lips curving into a smile too perfect, too controlled with the room echoing her energy. Every gesture of hers was memorized, calm, and unnervingly charged, as if it, too, was complicit in whatever thoughts she concealed beneath her flawless exterior. This was no nervous bride preparing for her big day—this was a woman donning her armor, readying herself for something far darker than vows. Elora smiled, her to
