The inside of the hut was far larger than it appeared from the outside. Shadows danced along the walls, their movements synchronized with the flickering blue light emanating from a crystal orb on a pedestal at the center of the room. The figure who had welcomed us threw back her hood, revealing a strikingly pale woman with hair like silver threads and eyes that glowed faintly violet.

“I am Seraphine,” she said, her voice like the hum of a distant storm. “You seek to breach the Abyss and recover what was taken. But beware—the Abyss does not give freely.”

Her eyes scanned us, lingering on me. “You carry the weight of destruction and creation in your soul, Elise,” she said. “The orb you shattered was not just a prison; it was a tether. Its destruction set forces in motion that even Kieran does not fully comprehend.”

Kaela crossed her arms, her expression skeptical. “That’s great and all, but we don’t need riddles. We need a way to stop Kieran and save Harold.”

The oppressive void of the Abyss seemed to pulse with life as I pressed forward. My footsteps echoed in the silence, and the faint glow of the shard in my hand was the only thing keeping the encroaching darkness at bay. The further I ventured, the heavier the air became, as though the Abyss itself were aware of my presence. But then, a sound—a quiet footfall—pierced the silence. I whirled around, my heart pounding. From the shadows emerged a figure I recognized instantly.“Dominic?” I gasped. He stood tall, his sword strapped across his back and his face set with determination. “You didn’t really think I’d let you go through this alone, did you?”I stared at him, disbelief and concern warring within me. “You can’t be here. This place—this realm—breaks the laws of nature for someone like you.”“I know,” he said simply. “But I also know I couldn’t live with myself if I stayed behind while you faced this alone. Whatever consequences there are for me being here, I’ll deal with them. Right

The creature surged forward, its skeletal frame ablaze with ghostly fire. Dominic raised his sword, its edge gleaming faintly in the dim light of the chamber. "Stay behind me," he said again, his voice a low growl, protective and unyielding. But I couldn't. I couldn't let him face this monstrosity alone. The shard in my hand pulsed weakly, as if echoing my fear. "No," I said, stepping up beside him. "We do this together." Dominic gave me a sharp glance, his lips twitching into a brief, wry smile. "Stubborn as ever." Before I could reply, the creature lunged again, its teeth swiping through the air. And it surely terrified me seeing that creature almost looking at me as though we were some kind of perfect preys in its eyes. Dominic met its blow with a fierce strike, his sword colliding with the claws in a spray of sparks. The force sent him sliding back, but he stood firm, his stance unwavering. I focused on the shard in my hand, trying to will it to life. It flickered we

The Abyss seemed to stretch infinitely in every direction, the air thick with oppressive silence, broken only by the sound of our footsteps. Dominic and I walked side by side, the shards glowing faintly in my hands. Every step I took felt heavier, as though the weight of the world was pressing down on us, urging us forward toward something—something I wasn’t sure I was ready for.I could feel Dominic’s gaze on me, but I didn’t dare look up. There was too much at stake, too much uncertainty in this place, and I wasn’t sure I could handle any more surprises.“What’s next?” I asked quietly, trying to steady my breathing, my heart pounding in anticipation.Dominic’s voice was calm but edged with tension. “The final test. The Abyss doesn’t give up easily. It feeds on fear, and we’ll have to confront whatever is lurking inside us.”I nodded, gripping the shards more tightly. “I’m ready. Whatever it is, we can handle it.”Dominic stopped, his expression unreadable as he turned to face me. “I

The air was thick with anticipation as I stood at the edge of our territory, watching the pack prepare for what was to come. It felt surreal, almost like a dream, how much had changed in such a short time. A few months ago, we were scattered, broken, haunted by the ghosts of Kieran and his rebels. Now, we had rebuilt our home, and a new chapter was beginning.Dominic stood next to me, his usual calm composure giving off a sense of strength that seemed to seep into the very ground beneath us. The camp around us was bustling with energy, the pack members moving with purpose, each one determined to prove themselves in the upcoming challenge. For the first time in a long while, there was a sense of unity in the air. But I knew, deep down, this wasn’t just about unity. It was about leadership.“Are you ready for this?” Dominic asked, his voice low but steady, as if he was already expecting the tension that hung in the air.I glanced at him, my eyebrows furrowing. “You really think this is

The days leading up to the Alpha trials were a blur, each one more intense than the last. The pack’s excitement hummed in the air, like the tension before a storm.Every corner of the camp was alive with preparation—sparring sessions, strategy meetings, and countless whispered conversations. The trials would decide not just the future of the pack, but the future of the three of us. And I couldn’t decide which one terrified me more.Harold or Dominic.Dominic, the undeniable Alpha—the protector, the one who had rebuilt this pack with his bare hands. His natural command, his strength, his unwavering focus made him the perfect leader. Then there was Harold, who had always stayed in the background, his quiet intensity making him a force to be reckoned with. But now, he was stepping into the spotlight, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that his decision to enter the trials wasn’t just about the pack. It was about something deeper. Something between him and me.The thought clung to me as

The days leading to the trials blurred into an unrelenting tide of preparations, training, and strained moments that refused to be ignored. As the pack buzzed with anticipation, I found myself standing in the thick of it—between two men whose rivalry was as fierce as the coming trials.Dominic’s presence had always been steady, a comforting strength I could lean on when the world grew too heavy. But Harold’s sudden transformation—his confidence and resolve—left me reeling. There was no denying the fire in his eyes, a fire that seemed to burn for reasons I wasn’t ready to face.Late one evening, I stood on the ridge overlooking the training grounds, the cool wind brushing against my skin as I watched Dominic work with the challengers. His movements were a symphony of precision and power, a testament to the leader he was destined to be.“Elise.”The voice startled me. I turned to find Harold standing a few feet away, his expression unreadable in the moonlight.“Couldn’t sleep either?” I

The arena erupted with cheers and howls as the trials began. Warriors from the pack stood at attention, their eyes fixed on the contenders, each step of the competition designed to test strength, strategy, and resolve.Dominic and Harold faced each other in the center, their contrasting energies creating a magnetic pull that silenced the crowd. Dominic exuded calm confidence, every motion deliberate, while Harold carried a raw intensity, his posture brimming with the determination of someone with nothing to lose. And there I stood, caught in the current of their battle, torn by emotions I couldn’t untangle. The first trial was a test of endurance, an obstacle course that spanned the dense forest. I stood with the crowd as the competitors plunged into the challenge.“Elise,” whispered Lila, one of the healers, standing beside me. “You seem more nervous than the competitors themselves.”“I’m fine,” I lied, my voice tight. She smiled knowingly but said nothing.By the time they returned

The silence in the arena was thick, each second stretching into eternity. Harold and Dominic exchanged one last glance, the air between them crackling with unspoken tension. Then, as if a silent agreement had passed, the fight resumed.Dominic struck first, his movements calculated, his footwork precise. Harold, bruised and battered, was slower, his strength waning but his resolve unbroken. He blocked Dominic’s strike and countered with a feral determination, his raw energy overpowering the technical finesse that Dominic brought to the fight. The crowd erupted in shouts, gasps, and cries of encouragement. Every blow landed like a thunderclap, every dodge a near miss that left hearts pounding. It was clear Dominic had the upper hand, his strategy and experience keeping Harold on the defensive. But then, fate intervened. As Dominic lunged for what seemed to be the finishing blow, his footing faltered—a patch of loose gravel underfoot throwing him off balance. The message hung over us like a storm cloud, an unwelcome reminder of the chaos Dominic and I had fought so hard to escape. I had no idea who could have sent it or what it meant, but Dominic’s reaction told me everything I needed to know—this wasn’t the first threat he’d received. After dinner, he paced the living room, his phone clutched tightly in his hand. I watched him, my chest tightening with each heavy step. Finally, I couldn’t take the silence any longer.“Dominic, talk to me,” I said, standing and crossing the room to him. “Who sent that message? What are we dealing with?”He stopped, his jaw working as he debated how much to tell me. His hesitation only fueled my anxiety.“I don’t know for sure,” he admitted, running a hand through his hair. “But I have my suspicions.”I crossed my arms. “And those suspicions are…?”He sighed, his shoulders sagging. “It could be someone connected to the board—or a competitor who’s not thrilled about the merger we finalized last year. The first few days after Dominic’s proposal felt surreal. Like waking up in a dream, not quite believing that the nightmare of misunderstandings, doubts, and heartbreak had finally ended. Every time I glanced at the ring glimmering on my finger, a thrill of disbelief shot through me. Dominic was mine—no half-measures, no holding back. And I was his. This morning, sunlight streamed through the curtains of his—no, our—bedroom. The scent of coffee wafted through the air, mingling with the faint aroma of lavender from the bouquet he’d surprised me with last night. Dominic was already up, probably brewing that coffee, and I couldn’t help the smile tugging at my lips.Sliding out of bed, I wrapped myself in one of his oversized shirts, inhaling the comforting scent of him as I made my way to the kitchen. There he was, hair disheveled, wearing a plain white tee and grey sweats, looking like he’d stepped out of one of my favorite daydreams.“Morning,” he greeted, his smile warm as he handed m

I stood at the edge of the cliff, the roaring waves below mirroring the storm inside me. The wind whipped around my face, carrying the scent of salt and something intangible—something that felt like change. Dominic was behind me, his footsteps crunching against the gravel, deliberate but hesitant, as though he feared breaking the fragile thread of our connection."Elise," he called, his voice steady despite the wind's resistance.I didn't turn immediately. For too long, I'd been a storm contained within myself, but now the dam was breaking. I could feel the tears streaming down my face, though the wind dried them almost instantly. Finally, I turned to face him. Dominic stood there, his hands buried deep in the pockets of his coat, his eyes filled with something I hadn't seen in weeks—hope."Why did you follow me?" I asked, my voice cracking under the weight of my emotions. His gaze softened, and he stepped closer. "Because I can't let you walk away. Not like this. Not without knowing

The clearing turned into a spotlighted battlefield as figures in tactical gear emerged from the shadows, their weapons trained on us. The loudspeaker voice barked orders again:“Drop your weapons and step forward, one at a time. Any resistance will be met with lethal force!”Ethan didn’t move, his rifle steady in his grip, though I could see the tension in his jaw. The woman in black shifted her stance, her blade glinting ominously in the floodlights. Dominic’s hand trembled slightly in mine, but his expression was resolute.“They want me,” I whispered, my voice shaking. “If I go, maybe they’ll—”“Don’t even think about it,” Dominic interrupted fiercely. “We don’t negotiate with people who point guns at us.”“They’re bluffing,” Ethan added, his voice low. “They want you alive. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be shouting demands.”The soldiers began to fan out, their movements coordinated and efficient. One stepped closer, a rifle slung over his shoulder.“Final warning! Surrender now!”The w

The blinding spotlight bore down on us, freezing us in place like cornered prey. Caleb's smug voice crackled through a megaphone, sending a shiver of dread through me."Hand over Dominic and Elise, and maybe I'll consider letting your mysterious friend live. Maybe."The woman in black, who had just saved us, didn’t flinch. Instead, she stepped forward, her voice low and calm. "He's bluffing. We move now, or we don’t move at all."Dominic swayed slightly, his weight leaning against me as I supported him. His breathing was labored, and the blood seeping through his shirt wasn’t stopping. We were running out of time."I won't let them take you," I whispered to him, my voice fierce despite my fear.He managed a weak smile. "And here I thought… I was supposed to protect you."The woman in black turned back to us, her voice sharp. "If you two are done with the romance, we need to get to the treeline. Now!"Gunshots echoed in the air, sending chunks of dirt flying up around us. The woman cur

The darkness was disorienting, heavy like a suffocating shroud. The last thing I remembered was the sharp tug on the car door and Dominic’s grip tightening around my arm, his voice calling my name in desperation. Now, all I could hear was muffled noise—voices arguing, footsteps echoing, and the low hum of machinery in the background. My eyelids felt heavy as I forced them open, my head pounding. The room I was in was dimly lit, the air thick with the smell of damp concrete. I was tied to a chair, my hands bound tightly behind my back. Panic surged through me as I tried to move, but the ropes dug into my skin.“Dominic?” I croaked, my voice barely above a whisper. There was no response, but as my vision adjusted, I saw him slumped against a metal pole across the room, his face pale, his breathing shallow. His shirt was stained with blood, and my heart clenched at the sight.“Dominic!” I called him again, louder this time.He stirred slightly, his head lifting just enough for me to see

The man—whoever he was—was already moving toward the door. His actions were swift and purposeful, like he knew exactly what to do. He turned to us briefly.“Stay low, stay quiet. Follow me,” he ordered, his voice steady. There was no hesitation, no uncertainty in his tone.I glanced at Dominic, who was struggling to steady himself, but I knew he couldn’t do this alone.“Dominic, we can make it,” I said, stepping closer to him, my voice thick with emotion. I wanted to believe it. More than anything, I wanted us to make it out of this alive. But the weight of the situation pressed heavily on my chest. He reached out, gripping my hand tightly, and for a moment, his touch felt like the only thing keeping me grounded. "We will," he murmured, his voice rough but filled with the kind of certainty I desperately needed. "I won't leave you."I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat, and followed the mysterious man. We moved as quickly as we could through the narrow hallways, the sound of our

The darkness was suffocating. My body felt heavy, as if I were sinking into a deep abyss. Distant echoes of voices and the faint rustle of movement seeped into the void, pulling me toward consciousness. My head throbbed, and when I finally opened my eyes, blurry shapes swam before me.I was in a dimly lit room, the walls rough-hewn stone. A single flickering lantern hung from the ceiling, casting long, eerie shadows. My hands were bound tightly behind my back, the rope biting into my skin. Panic surged through me as I tried to wriggle free, but the bindings wouldn’t budge.“Dominic?” My voice came out as a hoarse whisper. I turned my head, searching desperately for him.My eyes landed on him across the room, slumped against the wall. Blood stained his shirt where Caleb had stabbed him. His chest rose and fell in shallow, uneven breaths, and his face was pale, almost ghostly. He was alive—but barely.“Dominic!” I called again, louder this time. His eyelids fluttered, and he let out a l

The rock scraped against my skin, and for a moment, I thought I might get stuck. But sheer desperation gave me the strength to push through, emerging on the other side into another dark tunnel.I didn’t stop to catch my breath.
