Mila’s POV
Turning to face the room, I didn’t even bother to check the room out, as I raced for a door that I prayed was the bathroom, while all I could think about at this moment was quenching my thirst with water, even if it was from the bathroom faucet. Thankfully, there was a private bathroom, and as I turned the faucet to the sink on and lowered my head to the cool water that ran from it, dipping my mouth to soak up its glory, I realized that everything I had taken for granted was now gone.
As the cool water ran down the back of my throat, warm tears began to pour from my eyes, as I no longer could hold them back. Now that I was alone in the privacy of my own prison, I could finally let out all the emotional grief that I had been holding deep inside of me.
Turning the faucet off, I turned and lowered myself slowly to the floor, pulling my knees to my chest, as I continued to sob, while I thought about my parents, and my older brother, that were murdered by the same man that now held me prisoner to bear his heirs. The thought of allowing him to touch me with the same hands that murdered my family and most of my pack repulsed me, but what choice did I have. I was no longer a being that was free to choose for myself, as I was now nothing but a mere possession of his, to do with as he pleases.
I couldn’t understand how our Moon Goddess could have forsaken me like this, as I was a good girl, and had kept myself for my mate, not giving in to any temptations. Hell, I never even had my first kiss, and now all those first that I had saved for my mate, were going to go to the monster that took everything away from me.
There was no doubt in my mind now that I should have given into Billy a few months ago, when he begged me to be with him. If I had only given into him, I wouldn’t have been sold to breed Alpha Gunner’s heirs, and I would be a servant somewhere else like the rest of the young she wolves that were spared. But of course, that wasn’t the case, and my belief in being pure for my mate, backfired in my face, causing me to suffer the worse life that could be known for a she wolf.
The sound of the key in the lock turning caught my attention, and I quickly began to wipe my tears away, as I pushed myself to my feet, not knowing who was about to enter my room. Slowly, I moved to the bathroom door, peeking into the room, as the door opened, revealing the Beta that had escorted me to my room just moments ago. In his hands was a tray, and my mouth instantly watered at the smell of the food he was carrying on it, but I didn’t move from where I was standing, scared he may take it away if I made a sudden move.
His eyes looked around the room, as he placed the tray on a small table, until they met with mine, and he says to me, “I brought you something to eat. It looks like it has been days since you have eaten.” As he moves to a fireplace and begins to build a fire in it.
I hadn’t until this moment realized how cold the room was, because I was so numb to everything that had been going on and lost in my despair to notice it. What little clothes that I had on when taken, now hung on me, two sizes too big, as I must have lost about ten plus pounds in the last couple of days from lack of food and water.
Remaining where I was standing, I watched him building the fire, even though my mouth continued to water at the delectable smell of the food, but I honestly didn’t know if I should move to it, or even if I could trust that the food hadn’t been poisoned.
The fire beamed to life, and its flames immediately brought warmth along with it, as the Beta stood back up, and moved towards the table where he had placed the tray of food. My eyes followed his every move, especially now that he stood directly over the tray of food.
“I can see that you are hungry. I swear the food isn’t poisoned. Alpha Gunner would never buy you just to kill you.” He said to me, as if that was to reinsure me. The man was a cold-blooded killer, and I could see him torturing me slowly to my death.
“Fine.” He says as he reaches down to the tray, and I go to take a step to stop him from taking the tray of food away, but stop myself, as my eyes remain on the food on it.
But instead of taking ahold of the tray, he reaches down and takes one of the baby potatoes and pops it in his mouth, chewing it before he swallows it, before he says, “See, it isn’t poisoned.”
My mouth began to water even more, now knowing that the food was safe to eat, but I still remained standing in the doorway to the bathroom, holding onto its frame, not allowing myself to go to it. My eyes now moved from the tray of food to him, as he went to take a step towards me, and I quickly took a step back into the bathroom, in fear of what he was about to do, to me.
He stopped dead in his tracks as I took the step back into the bathroom, holding his hands in the air to me, as a sign that he wasn’t going to hurt me, but I honestly didn’t trust anyone at this moment, especially after everything that had just happened. “I swear I’m not going to hurt you. If I did, I would be as good as dead myself. You belong to my Alpha, and he would kill me on the spot with no questions asked.” He now said to me, and in a way, I believed him, because no one was to touch the Alpha’s possessions, or go near them without permission.
“Please just come and take a bite, so that I can inform him that you are eating, and I promise when you do so, I will leave you alone for the evening.” He now tells me, as if he is just trying to fulfill his own orders given to him by Alpha Gunner.
Not wanting to cause problems on my first night here, for the man that he has entrusted my well-being with, I slowly move from within the bathroom, to the small table, reaching for the tray of food, grabbing a baby potato myself, popping it into my mouth, before I began to chew it. I couldn’t help but to close my eyes for a second, to savor its taste, since it had been days since I had something to eat.
The sound of the door opening made me quickly open my eyes, and to my surprise, the Beta had fulfilled his promise to me by leaving me alone, once he seen me take a bite, making me wonder if I could truly trust him.
Gunner’s POV “She’s eating, Alpha.” Beta Ryker tells me as he enters my office, while I try and deal with the mess that I had made tonight at the auction. Thankfully, I didn’t foresee any of the other packs holding it against me, since I had purchased the she wolf fair and square, and the auctioneer should have known better than to touch what was mine. “Good. She is no use to me if she dies. Make sure she continues to eat. I’m entrusting you with her wellbeing.” I inform him, as I continue to look down at the stack of papers on my desk, coming now across the paperwork from the war that happened against Crescent Moon in my absence, wondering who the hell placed an order to take action against them. “May I ask a question, Alpha?” Beta Ryker now asks me, as I began to read over the paperwork sent to me from the council about my pack’s actions towards Crescent Moon. “What is it Beta?” I asked him, not looking up from the pape
Mila’s POV As I devoured the food that the Beta had brought up for me, I finally looked around at my imprisonment and realized quickly that the room wasn’t a breeder’s room. In fact, by looking at the expensive décor, this room was meant for no other than the Luna of the pack.My eyes instantly moved to the second door in the room, and I knew exactly where that door led to. My heart began to race knowing that I would be sleeping only a mere wall and door between the monster that had killed my family and my pack, but my curiosity was getting the best of me.Getting to my feet, I moved towards the door, placing my ear to it, to see if I could hear him within his room, but as I listened, I heard nothing, telling me that the room remained empty at this moment. I knew what I was about to do was so wrong, but something inside of me needed to see the room where the monster laid his head at night. My hand reached for the doorknob, and I slowly began to turn it, as my heart rac
Mila’s POV Exhaustion must have taken over me when I finally laid my head upon the pillow, and the bed had felt like a heavenly cloud beneath me, after what I had been forced to sleep on for the past couple of days. In my dream, I dreamt of my family all alive again, sitting around the dinner table like we had done every night, with smiles on all their faces, as we talked about our day. It brought me comfort seeing them all once again, even if it was only in my dream, because it was the first time that I had seen them in my mind without the way they looked when I last saw them, after the massacre. As the dream continued, and I sat there at the dinner table with them in silence, listening to their voices gracing me with the pleasure of hearing them again, I couldn’t help but shed a tear, as I knew this was all just a dream. My mother at that moment got up from the table, and I watched as she disappeared into the kitchen, praying that she would come back
Mila’s POV A scream echoed throughout the room, hell maybe even the whole entire house, as I pulled the covers up tightly to my neck, in total disbelief that it had all been a dream. Standing before me at the foot of my bed was none other than the Beta, with an empty cup in his hand, and I wonder if he had heard me moaning in my sleep. The smell of my arousal filled the air around us, giving away exactly what kind of dream I was having, and my cheeks instantly heated with embarrassment knowing that the Beta was here to witness it all. The Beta’s head turned away from me, as I could see his chest heaving, while his nostrils flared, telling me that the scent of my arousal was affecting him. Through gritted teeth, as if it pained him to speak, he says to me, “The Alpha requests for you to join him for breakfast this morning. I would suggest you take a moment to clean yourself up.” In the blink of an eye, the Beta rushed out
Mila’s POV The sound of his shoes walking acrost the floor was the only sound other than my heart beating heavily in my chest in the dining room, as it was clear that he was making his way to me. I braced myself for what was to come, as I knew he was about to make a mockery of me in front of his whole pack to see. As I stood there on shaky legs once again, I knew that I would never have the courage to fulfill my plan, as there was no way that someone could win the heart of a man as cold hearted as he was. His own pack feared him, as I could now feel their fear in the room, making my own fear rise with each step that he took towards me. To my surprise, his footsteps stopped at his Beta, and I kept my head lowered, too scared to look up at him to see what he was doing, as another growl rumbled from his chest, before he stepped around him, and moved to stand in front of me. My heart was now pounding so hard that I thought that I just might
Mila’s POV “Please eat.” He now says to me as he points to the table that he had laid the plate on when he had entered his office. Wiping the tears from my eyes and my cheeks, I look over at the plate of food that he was pointing at, seeing it heaping with all sorts of breakfast meats and eggs, realizing that he had brought it for me, after what had happened in the dining room. I found myself confused by the gesture, as I wondered why he had been so kind to sweep me out of the dining room in my state of humiliation, to bring me to his office where he in the end brought me my breakfast so that I could eat in peace, without the eyes of his pack members judging me. My eyes moved back to him standing in front of me, as I looked at him in a state of confusion, not understanding why he was being so kind to me at this moment. Was he playing his own game with me? Was he trying to butter me up, only to crush me even more than I had already been
Mila’s POV Trina quickly made it very clear that I was not to her liking, and that she wasn’t happy that Alpha Gunner had pulled her from what she was doing to escort me to change and then to training. I tried to do my best to find something in the room suitable for training, but most of the clothes were not meant for such a thing, and I had to wonder why if he had planned for me to train, he wouldn’t have provided me with the right attire to do so. “Hurry up. You’re going to make us late.” Trina yells at me from within my bedroom, as I frantically look for something to wear in the walk-in closet. “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing appropriate to wear in this closet.” I call back to her, becoming frustrated, because the last thing I want to do is make an enemy with her, so that she can make my life even more hell while I was forced to be here. A chuckle comes from within my bedroom, before I hear her say, “That doesn’t surpr
Mila’s POV “You’re late.” Came from a man that looked to be in charge of the training to Trina, as his eyes moved to me, looking at me coldly, before he asks, “What is she doing here?” Asking her instead of me why I was here, even though he is staring directly at me, as if it were beneath him to question me himself. “Alpha Gunner gave me orders to bring her to training, Sir.” Trina tells him, and his eyes stare at me a bit longer than I would have liked, as the coldness in them sent chills down my spine. “Well, if Alpha Gunner wants his breeder to train, then who am I to question his demands.” He then said with what sounded like sarcasm in his voice, before he says with a firm tone, “Get in line, and take his breeder with you.” Trina quickly grabbed ahold of my arm, pulling me to the back of the men and women all in lines, as each one of them gawked at me, making me feel unwanted. I should have known that was going to be
Mila’s POV Deciding against dinner, I laid down on my bed, and pulled out the book I had been reading, but quickly decided against it, as my eyes were tired from all the reading I had already done today. Something within me felt restless, and I don’t know if it was because my wolf was coming soon, along with the full moon, or if it was what the pack doctor had said to me.Either way, I found myself feeling antsy, as I began to pace the room, angry at myself for allowing this situation to deter me from just going to the dining room to meet Trina, scared of what they might do to me or my food. Back home, I would never have allowed myself to feel so insignificant and vulnerable like this, but here I found myself worried constantly that someone was out to get me. Light was fading quickly outside, as fall was slowly creeping up on us, and I couldn’t help but feel sadness in my heart, knowing that the holidays were coming. The realization was hitting me hard that I would h
Mila’s POV Finishing the last file Alpha Gunner had given me, I stood and moved to his desk with the stack of them, making him look up from his own work, as I say to him, “I have finished all the files and requests you have given me for the day.” As I handed them to him, hoping that he would dismiss me for the day, because I wanted to pay the pack doctor a visit before I headed to dinner with Trina. Alpha Gunner took the files from my hand, sitting them to the side on his desk, before he surprisingly said to me, “Good work today, Mila. It is clear that helping your father has taught you a thing or two about pack business, and you will be an asset to me here in my office.” A part of me was elated to finally hear him give me a compliment for the work that I had done today, but another part of me was hurting hearing him call me an asset, as it made me feel like a piece of property to him, which I was. Nevertheless, it was a compliment, espe
Mila’s POV Stepping forward, I introduced myself to Sharon and explained to her that I was the one who had gone over her request, but that I had a few questions to ask her. Thankfully, she wasn’t like her kitchen staff, and greeted me with a warm smile, offering Alpha Gunner and me to take a seat. Once seated, I opened the file with her request, and began to go over the numbers with her, as Alpha Gunner sat there in silence. It wasn’t until I got to the question of whether there were recently more pack members added that he opened his mouth, by saying that there weren’t any new mouths to feed, making me realize that he had been listening carefully to our conversation. “That is what I am not understanding, where all the food is going.” Sharon now says, as if trying to defend herself, and I can tell that she is just at a loss what is happening as I was. Alpha Gunner at that moment got to his feet, as he looked at Sharon, be
Mila’s POV It didn’t take long for me to find myself lost in the stack of files, as I sat at the small table in Alpha Gunner’s office, while he too worked on a stack that he deemed too important for me to touch. The stack that he had given me consisted of pack normal business, and it didn’t take half a brain to be able to deal with the issues at hand, making me able to fly through most of them without a hitch. But one file in particular was throwing me off, and I must have read it over a hundred times, trying to piece together why there was such an influx recently with the grocery bills. The chart that was attached to the file from the head chef of the house was asking for more money allotted for the groceries to feed the pack, explaining that the stock was not lasting as it used to, making me wonder if there had been added members of the pack to feed within the past couple of months. Needing to know this information to be able to approv
Mila’s POV Excusing myself, I headed back to the dining room, to where Trina was patiently waiting for me, as I grabbed a plate of food before moving to take a seat next to her. “So, what did Alpha Gunner want?” Trina asks me before my butt even hits the seat, clearly worried that our plan was a no go, which in a way it was, but in another way, it still was on. Grabbing my fork, I looked down at my plate wondering how I could explain to her what just transpired between Alpha Gunner and myself. To be honest, I really don’t know how we easily came to an agreement, especially since the last conversation we had didn’t go so well, with me disobeying him.The only thing I could think of was that he had time to cool off, and I had been behaving for the past week. Either way, he was allowing me some freedom without a fight, and I was going to take it, because it was my safest bet to remain safe but also to be able to mingle among the pack members.Placing my fo
Mila’s POV It had been over a week since I had locked myself in my room, but today was the day that I was finally going to come out of hiding with the help and support of Trina. I know that Alpha Gunner wanted me to willingly stay in my room, but if I was to find the she wolf that was involved with all of this within the pack, I needed to face my fears. As Trina and I walked into the dining room for breakfast side by side, all eyes at that moment turned to look at us, and I found myself scanning the room, looking at each and every blonde haired she wolf present, wondering if one of them could be the she wolf I was looking for. My heart at that moment began to race in anticipation, as they all stared right back at me, and for a moment I thought about turning back around and locking myself back in my bedroom.Trina at that moment must have felt my anxiety, and she took a hold of my hand, pulling me from being lost in my head, making me look over at her, b
Mila’s POV “What do you mean by you saw something?” Trina now asks me, giving me her full attention, as she slid forward, sitting on the edge of her seat, waiting for me to answer her. Looking at her, I knew there was no going back, and I had to tell her what I had seen, and the conversation that I had with the she wolf. Swallowing hard, before I took a deep breath, I finally say to her, “The reason I disobeyed Alpha Gunner was because I saw someone running from the warehouse. I know it was stupid of me to take off after her, but I thought that if she was running then she was the one that knew who was behind all of this.” “Wait, you said she. I was only informed that you were attacked by male rogues.” Trina says to me, and I realize that Alpha Gunner must have informed her about what happened to me, or at least what he had seen and witnessed. Shaking my head, I say to her, “No, there was a she wolf too, and she was the or
Mila’s POV “Have you lost your damn mind? What would make you think that?” I asked Trina, shocked that she would even think that, as I stood from my chair, trying not to laugh at her, as I knew that my ribs couldn’t take it. “No, I haven’t lost my mind. If anything, I am seeing things more clearly now. Why else would he have asked me to look after you?” She now says to me, making me turn around, from my pacing to look at her, after her confession to me. “He asked you to look after me? But I thought that he instilled that duty to Beta Ryker.” I questioned her, as I continued to look at her, confused, wondering how many other members of the pack that he had asked to watch my every move. “Well yes, I thought you knew that, especially when he asked me to take you to training.” She now says to me, and I remember back to that day, and how she wasn’t happy at first about it, making me still wonder if there was something going on
Mila’s POV Days passed by as I began to heal, and my nights and days began to run together, as I stayed in my room, locked away from the outside world. My only interaction throughout the day was an elderly she wolf that brought my meals to me, and a new book to read when I ask for one. Other than that, I was imprisoned once again, but this time the door was locked from the inside instead of the outside. On day three, the pack doctor paid me a visit, and thankfully his wounds were healed, but that didn’t change the fact that I had been responsible for him receiving those wounds. I must have apologized to him a hundred times during his visit with me, but he simply kept saying to me, “What is done is done, and we can’t take back the past.” Making me wonder if he truly forgave me, or if I had lost his confidence in me being a good person. A week into my imprisonment, there was a knock on my door, and I hesitated for a few seconds, as I knew
