Elliot’s Point of view
" … And that’s how we are in a kind of, well, peace. And I’m sure Elliot can repeat what I just said." I hear Miss Gibson say.
I wake up from my nap with a jolt. Rogues have been trying to enter our territory for a week now. Every night my pack and I hunt them and we even killed a few.
Unfortunately, they often manage to escape to the Blue Moon pack where my father is watching the border, and others to the Silver Moon pack, right under my nose.
We decided to split up so that there is one Alpha per border. I believe that the Silver Moon and the Blue Moon packs did the same thing. But just like us, they can't follow the rogues.
"I’m sorry Miss Gibson." I apologize.
"Pay attention please. It concerns you."
Like every teacher I've ever had, Miss Gibson is from the Silver Moon pack. She teaches history and even though it is the most boring subject ever, we are required to take her classes. Even though this is my second year in college and I’m the future Alpha of the Red Moon pack, I couldn't escape it.
"I was saying that originally, it was thanks to King Harry, the grandfather of our current King, that peace was maintained. He decided that the center of our three packs would be a neutral zone, belonging to no one so we can meet on neutral ground where no one has authority. That’s why the airport and the schools are located there."
"Why do we have to live with them when we have always been separated until now?" Asks a guy from the Blue Moon pack, looking at us hatefully, making everyone in my pack growl.
"Everybody calm down! That's a great question. You were only with your pack members until high school because there were so many of you. But you all took different paths and there aren't enough of you in each field to stay only with the people from your pack."
"That's a good thing." Interjects a girl from the Silver Moon pack. "Maybe you'll finally makeup and stop ruining our lives with your problems!"
This is followed by nameless chaos where my pack and the Blue Moon pack scream insults and threats at each other, to the great displeasure of the Silver Moon pack students.
"Silence everyone!"
It's only after five minutes that peace returns. Because even if we are mixed, we are on each side of the amphitheater, with the Silver Moon pack between us.
"Five more minutes and I'll set you free. So even if it is King Harry who created this area, it’s his son, King Sebastian, who created the corridors between the packs. There were still too many battles at the borders, so he created a 500 meters wide corridor between each pack, which goes from the city to the end of the territories. These corridors are named according to the packs it separates, so there is the Blue Silver corridor, the Red Silver corridor and finally the Blue Red corridor, which is still causing problems today." She says in a harsh tone. But I don't listen anymore, too busy staring at the map she projected.
It is when I hear the mention of the corridors that it becomes clear to me. That's where the rogues come from! As these corridors don't belong to anyone, they are undetectable! They know that we can feel them right away when they cross our borders and enter our territory.
That's why we are always under attack. They just have to stay in the city where they cannot be reached and attack us whenever they want.
When I leave the classroom, I immediately inform my best friends, my Beta Owen and my Gamma Simon.
"Okay, so what?" Asks Simon.
"Well, if we kicked them out of the city, they would stop attacking us. And if we stopped them from entering the corridors, they could only attack us from the outside, not from all sides as they do. How could no one understand this before? I have to tell my father."
"Whoa, calm down." Says Owen. "Even if you're right, there's nothing we can do. Invading the corridors would clearly be seen as an act of war and the King himself would take away our land and we would be driven out."
I sigh. He’s right. At that moment, I see Derek, the future Alpha of the Silver Moon pack with whom I have a good relationship. I wave my hand for him to join us.
"Hey, Derek! How are you doing? I haven't seen you all week in the Red Silver corridor."
"That's because my dad is watching over it. I take care of the Blue Silver corridor with Alice." He replies with a big smile.
It's not good for me. He has long had a crush on Alice, the daughter of Alpha John, the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack. And if he takes over from his father who is a buffer between my father and Alpha John, it's very bad for me if he is more on Alice's side than mine.
I've heard she's a great fighter and a beautiful girl and I'm sure she's doing everything she can to seduce Derek. She'll be entering first grade next week, so I'm making the most of these last days of peace.
I tell him about my discovery and he tells me the same thing as Owen and Simon. After having discussed it a little, he promises to speak about it to his father, Alpha Jack.
*****
I’m in my bedroom when Owen mind links me.
"Alpha Mark and Luna Lily are coming to see you and they look pissed."
In the following second, my father enters my room like a fury, followed closely by my mother.
"What's this about? Alpha Jack called me to tell me that you had figured out the rogues' game. I sounded like an idiot, not knowing what he was talking about. Thanks son! Next time, come see me first. Is that clear?" He says angrily.
"I'm sorry dad. It's just that Derek was around when I figured it out and I told him my thoughts, that's all. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable."
"Uncomfortable? UNCOMFORTABLE?!" He shouts.
"Calm down my love." Says my mother, touching his arm. "He did very well to share his theories with Derek. They are very good friends and after all this rogues situation concerns us all."
Indeed, Derek and I are the same age, so we went to the King's Castle at the same time last summer to train with the young Alphas. It brought us very close.
"Good friends?! It won't do any good at all when he will mate with Alpha John's pup!"
We're both speechless. My mom is the first to come to her senses.
"Alice? Alice and Derek are mates?"
"Not by the will of the Goddess, we'd already know about that. But he has always liked Alice a lot and apparently she's not indifferent to him."
It's only then that I start to understand. "Are you saying that they are going to mark each other?"
Even if the Moon Goddess destines us a person, we can choose someone else. You don't feel the same as you do with your destined mate and this bond is broken when the chosen person marks you. So if you meet later the person who was destined for you, you don't feel the pull.
As for me, I am looking forward to it. I know that many males especially Alphas, date other girls for fun. But after talking to the ones I met at the castle who are lucky enough to have found their mate, many regret it.
They say that they feel like they cheated on their mates and that they are always very angry with them and the girls. Others say it gave them experience but they admit that they would be angry if they found out that their mate had been with another male before them.
All of them, however, agree on the same point: being with their mate is nothing like being with another girl.
Being romantic, I decided to wait for her but I'm careful not to tell anyone about this.
"But why? Won't it make them weaker not to be with their destined half? Our destined mate finally makes us complete and only then we are at our strongest. Why give that up?" My mother asks. But I already understood.
"For Derek I'm not sure, but for Alice, it's beyond hope. If they put their pack together, they can crush us with no problem." I say.
"And Blue Moon will have won and they will also take our territory" My father finishes explaining.
But my mother doesn't believe it. "No. He will never do that. Silver Moon has always been neutral in our war. Jack would never do that and I don't think his son Derek has a different opinion. They swore to King Harry to always be impartial and every Alpha has renewed that promise to every King. No, they can't do that. I'm sure of it."
"Oh yeah? Then explain to me why Alpha Jack and Alpha John are discussing the terms of this arrangement?"
"You're not serious?" I ask.
"Yes I am. So we need a plan. You too need to find a female that will make you strong. We don't have time to wait for your Chlmate anymore."
A sudden fury comes over me. "What are you trying to say?" I ask through clenched teeth.
"I'm sorry son. You have to give up your destined mate."
Elliot’s Point of view"You are kidding me. Right?" I ask my dad."I'm sorry. It's the only way.""This is stupid." I tell him as I stand up. "There is no she-wolf as powerful as Alice. The best I can find is a beta's daughter and that won't even be enough. Our only hope is that I find my mate.""We don't have time!" My father snarls. He's as red as the hair I inherited from him. His black eyes shoot daggers at me.Fortunately, my mother is there to calm him down."Elliot is right. No she-wolf is as powerful as Alice. The best we can hope for is that Elliot’s mate is a beta’s daughter of a powerful pack."She looks at me with her big green eyes and smiles. "Don't worry my darling. I'm sure the Moon Goddess has given you a strong she-wolf.""Maybe, but we don't have time to wait!" My father
Alice’s Point of viewI'm going to kill him. I swear I'll kill him. That damn Red! He tricked me!I should have known. He sweats arrogance."Well then, Blue? Are you coming or what?" I don't move an inch. "Have you lost your tongue?" He asks me, laughing.I try to ignore the shiver that runs through me at the sound of his laugh and answer him calmly."No, I'm thinking.""About how to put one foot in front of the other?""No, to how I'm going to kill you."I feel him tense and put his hand on the pommel of his sword."You swore at the Moon Goddess." He reminds me."He's right." My wolf Cassiopeia tells me."Are you serious? He is a Red! He is an enemy. He will stab us in the back as soon as he gets the chance."
Alice’s Point of view"Rogues at the Blue Red corridor".I groan and roll over in my bed. This is a joke. This is a fucking joke."They are many, we need more backup." Continues to mind link a warrior who was on duty tonight.I grunt again and get up quickly. I undress in a record time and change into my wolf, jumping out of my bedroom window.Having Alpha blood, my wolf is larger than average but and I’m faster. My fur is so white that it almost looks like it’s glowing, except for the little patch of black fur on my chest that looks like a crescent moon.As I leave the packhouse behind me and run towards the fight, I feel Cassiopeia take control and I know my eyes are glowing a deep green now."But how is that possible? We cha
Elliot’s Point of viewIt's not possible. This is a nightmare.I am pacing in my room, trying to put my thoughts in order. But I am interrupted again by Leo who unlike me is crazy with joy."She is so beautiful" He says, almost drooling. "She's glowing, it's incredible. And her smell, Goddess, we have to smell her again!""Hey-oh! Wake up! We will never be with her! She's a Blue, the future Alpha to be! We're destined to hate each other." "That's not what the Moon Goddess seems to think since she's destined for us. I wonder what she tastes like..." "We'll never know. If we don't reject her, she will." "No! We won't let her. This war is useless, not all the Blues are bad. Look at Saphira. We're friends, right?"
Alice’s Point of viewThe first thing I feel is a terrible pain in the back of my head. I slowly regain consciousness and feel lost. The cold and hard ground quickly brings me back to reality and everything comes back to me at once. The hunt with Cop. The arrival of the rogues. Our arrest.I make sure not to betray that I have regained consciousness and realize that I am tied up."There's no one with us." Cop whispers.I open my eyes and see that he is facing me, tied up to a pipe on the wall. Our hands are bound behind our backs with heavy handcuffs. Impossible to break them.I look around and realize that we are in the ruined building but the room where we are held is closed by solid walls with very high windows. The door leading to our freedom seems to be armored."You came back." Cop whispers.
Elliot’s Point of viewNow she knows.I see a thousand emotions in her eyes. Surprise. Joy. Pride. Anger. Sadness. Happiness. Love. Desire. And anger again. And more desire. Then nothing. It goes so fast I feel like I've imagined half of it.I can see she's trying to keep a neutral face to not give us away and I'm trying to do the same. It's really hard to pretend I don't feel anything when I actually do.I want her. Now.If she was anyone else, I would have said it out loud already. This is our way of claiming our mate. As long as the word mate hasn't been said out loud, it's like we haven't accepted our mate but we don't reject him or her either. It's like a time of reflection. Most of the time, both people say it as soon as they meet, since there is not much rejection. But the first time Alice and I met w
Elliot’s Point of view"No."No? I tell her I want her and she says no?I try not to show that she hurt my feelings."Why?" I mumble. Her gaze softens. Does it hurt her as much as it hurts me?"You know why."I pull back from her, running a hand through my hair."That's no excuse. You and I have been friends for several weeks. We already liked each other while knowing what pack we came from so don't try to make me think you hate me.""That's not what I said. But I never wanted a mate." "That's not possible. Everyone wants to find their mate. We'll never be happy without each other.""I'm doing just fine on my own, thanks." She spits."Oh yeah? Yet you want Derek!""Derek? What's he got to do wit
Alice’s Point of viewLost. Completely lost.Elliot managed to get away without being seen and I am relieved. Not because I'm worried about him but because I would have been asked what I was doing with him and it would have been a disaster."That's it. If you keep saying it, you might end up convincing yourself." Cassie says in a mocking tone."You, don't mess with me."She rolls her eyes. "How much longer are you going to sulk?""The problem is we have no way of knowing who hired the rogues....""Alice?""...and I don't understand why they didn't kill us. It's not their type to ask questions.""Aaaaaaliiiiiiice?!" Cassie gets impatient but I ignore her."Maybe we can trace their movements
Elliot’s Point of viewI sigh and drop my head on my desk, nearly knocking over a whole stack of documents. It's been a year since Alice and I took over from our fathers, and I'm very proud to say that we're doing quite well considering our young age and the huge territory we have to manage.Although we are both officially the Alphas of this pack, it has been too complicated internally and most members call her Luna, which she willingly accepts as long as she remains an Alpha in the eyes of the rest of the world. It was the same for our two Betas and our two Gammas. So we had to create new titles. Sam is Beta, Owen is Delta, Simon is Gamma and Melanie is Epsilon. It was a little strange at first but it has made our lives a lot easier. We have a lot of work to do, but we've managed to organize ourselves to continue college on the side. The new packho
Alice’s Point of view"Get a grip, for Goddess' sake!" Cassie tells me impatiently.I nervously pace around my old room, biting my nails as I go.After visiting the Silvers, we announced the King's decision to our parents, who took it surprisingly well. They were a little sad to retire early, but they admitted it was for the best. They hated each other too long to cooperate so quickly. We decided to build a new packhouse on neutral ground, right in the center of town.Oh yeah. Since the packs are now united, the corridors that were set up are no longer useful and the King also wants us to take care of the city so that we don't have a 'dead zone' in the middle of our territory. Great. Even more area to manage. So Elliot and I had to plan our wedding in less than a week and I can't thank enough our entire new pack for their help.
Elliot’s Point of viewWe arrive at the airport of the city, the plan of battle already established. We call all our parents to let them know we are here.We shift and head towards the Silver's territory. Arrived in the proximity, we shift back and we approach slowly the border to not look threatening.A growl is heard and we freeze on the spot. The sound of branches is heard and a man comes to us. He has a hard, closed face, but shows a frank surprise when he recognizes us."Alpha Elliot, Alpha Alice. What are you doing here?"I sniff discreetly and notice that a lot of Silvers are guarding their border."Are you afraid of an attack?" I ask.He pretends not to understand and Alice cuts him off."What's your name?""Roger.""Roger, we can see that the guard has doubled. We
Alice’s Point of viewI move slowly on a very comfortable bed. We finally managed to find the bedroom with this huge bed in which, I confess, we did not sleep much.He woke me up several times during the night for this new need that we couldn't seem to satisfy. No matter how many times or in what position, I feel like I can't get enough. He sleeps beside me, breathing deeply. I stroke his cheek and then his lips with my fingertips, drawing a moan from him.Knocks are heard at the front door. I move an inch away from him, but Elliot's arms close around me to crush me against his chest."Where do you think you're going?"More banging can be heard. He growls. "I can't believe it. I said I didn't want anyone to disturb us."The person knocks harder."Leave it. They will go away." He
Alice’s Point of viewHe opens his room hastily and pushes me inside. I expect him to jump on me as usual but he walks away from me to his dressing, without a glance for me who is on fire."Uh, Elliot?"He doesn't answer and I just hear drawers opening and closing and zipper noises."What the hell is he doing?" Cassie asks, exasperated. "Has he forgotten us or what?"He rushes out of his room with a bag, dragging me behind him. He grabs my room key from my back pocket and repeats the same operation in my room.He comes out just as quickly with a second bag. Still pulling me along behind him, he knocks like a madman on Owen's door.He opens it with anger. "WHAT? Why are you knocking like that?"Elliot scans him with and I notice that Owen is wearing only a towel around his waist. His hair is
Alice’s Point of viewTwo weeks. Two weeks that our families have taken over their pack and are taking turns caring for the Silvers. It's not a sustainable situation over time, but it's good enough for now.I've been trying to work things out with Elliot for two long weeks. He and I have talked a lot and just when I thought we were going to work things out, we ended up at an impasse. At first, he was afraid that my feelings had changed and although I reassured him as best I could, I can feel that he still has doubts. For my part, I am afraid that one day he will leave me. Werewolves don't always end up with their fated mate and choose one. And they are happy. But we can't even do that. We will have nothing to bond us. So even though humans seem to love each other like that, it's not nearly enough for werewolves who need to really mark their 'territory'. We are part animals after
Alice’s Point of viewI'm all too familiar with this kind of dream. The kind where I visit Elliot when we're both asleep. Or almost dead.I'm in the forest, dressed in a nice pale pink summer dress. My hair is up in an elegant bun.Cassie jumps around in my head, not daring to believe it."I thought our bond was broken!" She exclaims. "So did I!" "Quick, let's find him!"I start running through the forest, calling for him with all my strength. After a few minutes, I hear a noise behind me.I turn around and see two fuchsia eyes staring at me intently.Although I'm surprised, I'm not scared at all. In fact, I feel calm in front of this eyes with their unusual color."Huh, Hello?"The eyes blink and a wolf comes out
Alice’s Point of viewAn excruciating pain pierces me and I just want to die.So is this what it feels like when your mate dies? I understand why the one left commits suicide or dies of pain within seconds."Let's think about our family, our friends. Think about Elliot. He is our mate, not Derek." Says Cassie."That's not how I feel right now!" I say wryly. After an eternity, the pain becomes bearable and I manage to stand up.I look down at Derek's body, the body of the man who was my best friend for all his years. What he did is unforgivable but I can't help but feel sad that I lost a friend."That's the past." Cassie tells me. "We need to focus on the future."I nod and leave Derek's body in the room before opening the door to the dressing
Alice’s point of viewEveryone says that when you get marked, you feel a sharp pain replaced by intense pleasure. As Derek's fangs close on my neck, I do feel a sharp pain but it only gets worse by the second.I feel a link forming between us. A powerful link that goes until the deepest of my soul.I hear a harrowing scream. For a moment I think it's mine, but through my tears I see Elliot throwing himself at us, mad with rage and anger. The guards next to him hold him down and tackle him to the ground. I see him struggle and one of the guards seems to grab a baton to hit him.Derek finally let go and I rush forward to stop the guard's arm inches from Elliot's face."Derek, you promised." I say as I raise my head to him.He wipes the corner of his lip where some of my blood had gotten stuck.
