*Harley's POV
Conditions?
I didn't think about that. As much as I hate to admit it, there should have been no conditions if everything went as per my blackmailing plan. I should have been the one in control of this conversation, not him.
"What conditions?" I ask, pulling away from Xavier.
"Nothing much." He shrugs, taking a step forward and I take steps back immediately.
He keeps walking towards me until I find my back hitting something behind, preventing any further movement. He stops, his hands bracing themselves on the dressing table behind me and I find myself trapped between his arms.
It is unfair that he gets my body reacting wickedly every time he is close. I never thought I would have feelings for him but I did.
"What conditions, Xavier?" I repeat, snapping my mind away from those bad memories.
"This deal stays between us." A his dark eyes which doesn't go unnoticed by me. "We'll be lovers for others."
I think about it-it doesn't sound like much. Lovers and Xavier never go in the same sentence because Xavier doesn't take lovers ever since Bel. Xavier doesn't love anyone, Xavier just fucks.
An image of him alone in his bed with a hand stroking his cock flashes through my mind-drops of perspiration trailing down his taut abs, his one hand gripping his hair in a fist, the rise and fall of his chest as he reaches closer to-I shake my head, horrified at the thought.
But on the plus side, it will only annoy Dad even more. I can accept that-purely for convenience and not because I can see Xavier throwing any PDA my way.
"Okay," I mutter indifferently. "It'll be more convenient that way."
A corner of his lips tilts to a smirk. "Good. Now for the next..."
"There's a next?"
"There is," he snickers with a boyish look on his face that made me weak on my knees once.
"I don't come cheap, blondie. You're asking me to commit to you-body and soul-for six months."
I sometimes forget that Xavier has a flair for the dramatic.
I glare at him. "What's next?"
"Break up with Mason."
I shot him a quizzical look. "Mason? Why is he in this conversation?"
His bringing up Mason Holiday again sounds funny. Mason has been my boyfriend for a year now-at least that's what I think he is if I ignore the numerous times I caught him cheating on me in the one year we have been together. With guys like Mason, you can never be sure of your relationship status. The only reason I am stuck with him is because he gets obsessive every time I try to break up with him.
"I have a reputation to maintain, Harley," Xavier proceeds. "Reputation brings money and we Jacksons live for money."
I should have known. Xavier Everest loves only two things in this world-money and enemies.
Reputation is just a get along theme; it is incredibly tainted if the scandals are summed up. From my sister's death to being caught by the media leaving a hotel with the minister's wife, Xavier makes sure to always be a part of some new controversy in LA.
"Done," I pronounce, rolling my eyes as I cross my arms over my chest.
"Now shall we tell my Dad?"
"We aren't done yet," he says sternly and I swallow a gulp at the dark look crossing his eyes.
"There's one last condition."
Forget being in control, I am not even part of an equal conversation here. The way Xavier speaks is as if he is the one who threw me off-guard by the proposal and not the opposite.
"Did you think of these conditions just now or you always had them up your sleeve?"
He arches an eyebrow as I stare him down. He moves a hand to my arm, trailing his fingers down and my breath hitches at the sensation of his hot fingers on my skin. They are rough against my skin and it makes me flinch as I try to maintain a straight face.
"I get to take your virginity," he breathes in a low and deep voice.
I snap my eyes at him as he steals a glance at my lips. My heartbeat accelerates to a frightening speed and my mouth falls open in shock. He moves his face closer until I can smell his cologne. It is a mix of woody scent and mint.
"I..." I begin to say something but I am halted when he presses the tip of his nose to my collarbone.
He inhales and I grab hold of the dressing table behind me, clutching it tightly with both hands. I feel hot all over, nervous energy traveling from my head to my toes. This is it. This is how I die-seduced by him.
"I'll be the one to take you, Harley," he whispers, his hot breath fanning my neck.
"I didn't say I'm a virgin," I speak, collecting myself.
"So you're telling me that if I slipped a finger inside you, I won't find you untouched?" Xavier pulls back to look at me with a sly smile on his face. "Shall I try that?"
I can feel the warmth of his hand which has landed on the hem of my skirt. His knuckles brush the bare skin of my thigh and I picture how we look from afar with his body between my legs.
I gulp, my body burning like something is on fire and needs to be cooled down. Xavier's smile infuriates me. He knows me too well for my good. He knows that Mason is just a pretense. I used to like him but every time it came to us having sex, he would only care about pleasing himself first.
I have avoided losing my virginity to a boy who cheats on me every two months in our relationship. Mason is now a part of my reputation only.
"I'm not sleeping with you, Xavier," I hiss. "This can't be a condition."
"I'm not asking to take your virginity, blondie," he states, his voice so husky that it makes me squeeze my legs shut.
"I'm saying that if you wish to lose it within the six months we'll be married, then I shall be the only one you approach."
Cocky bastard!
"Forget it!" I retort. "I'll ask Mason. This wouldn't work between us."
"The fuck you'll ask Mason!" he growls, moving his hand behind my neck and holding me in place.
"We both know you're never sleeping with him after that fuck me look you threw at me four years ago."
"That wasn't a fuck me look," I snarl through clenched teeth. "I was drunk."
He tightens his grip around my neck and pulls me closer until I can feel his lips grazing mine. It is a light touch but it brings memories of everything that happened that night. Something hard presses against my thigh and I flick a gaze to see the outline of a hard erection sporting his dress pants.
Did I do that to him?
"It's your choice," he whispers. "You know that I'm the better option."
Liar. He isn't giving me any options and my ego is too desperate to be sold by a pathetic man like my Dad. Asking Mason will just mean I get to escape this marriage but Dad will be unfazed. I need Xavier so that I can show Dad that I can play this game just as well as him.
"Fine," I say. "But just so you know, I'm never sleeping with you."
"Are you sure?" Xavier presses his lips to my cheek while the thumb of his other hand brushes over my cheekbone. His fingers curl at the spot over the curve of my neck and hair, seductively.
"Xavier..." It comes out as a moan from my lips. "Let me go."
He leaves me instantly and takes a few steps back, placing an appropriate distance between us.
"You're distracting, Harley." He runs his fingers through his hair. "Shall we proceed to tell your parents how much we're in love?"
I stick my tongue out as I walk past him to open the door but he puts his hand above my head, keeping the door pressed shut.
I turn back, confused at his action. "Any problem?"
"Huge problem." He looks down and I feel my cheeks warm up knowing what he is pointing at. I avert my eyes quickly.
"Take your time," I say, looking at my red painted nails and pretending to be disinterested in his body parts.
That's a lie. I have always been very interested in Xavier's body parts.
He removes his hand from the door and sighs, "These six months will be hard for me, nemesis." His eyes meet mine, the chocolate irises looking focused. "Very hard."
"Just a reminder," I pull the door open. "I can still kill you after that."
"We'll have that conversation after I'm done fucking you," he chirps, following behind me.
"You're never fucking me, Everest."
"Time will tell, Harley." He takes hold of my fingers when we reach the staircase, pulling me to a stop; A wicked smirk decorates his lips. My breath catches my throat when he lifts my hand to his lips and presses a light kiss over my knuckles. "Time will tell."
*Xavier's POVBenson is the worst scum to exist on earth. His pretty face can't do justice to his black heart. As he sits across from me and Harley in the hall, his face has a blank expression. His eyes move between us as we sit there with fake smiles plastered on our faces. The level of discomfort I feel right now is unimaginable."You two are in love?" Benson asks, pointing a finger at the two of us and Claire nods. "Love?""Yes."The sweetness in Harley's voice is almost disturbing after the way she spoke with her Dad an hour ago. The girl could have been a great actress if she wasn't interested in the fashion industry."And you want to marry him?""Yes," Harley says, nodding again."But you hate him." Benson frowns."I never did." Harley looks at me and smiles innocently. "I've always loved him. I couldn't do anything about it since Bel and— ."Only I notice the disgusted look she throws at me after she spills out those words. It is like she just swallowed fat. I wonder if I shoul
*Harley' POV"Xavier Everest?!" Nina's jaw hangs open in the air, her coffee cup stopping midway to her lips."Xavier hot-as-fuck Everest?!" Jesse exclaims, her amber eyes shining bright.I nod, sipping my strawberry milkshake with a straw, as I look at my two best friends. We are currently on a break from classes and we decided to check out the new coffee shop that opened nearby. The place is comfy and the smell of coffee and cakes greeted us the moment we stepped inside through the glass doors. 'Hot Cup Brews' is already gaining popularity and I see a few of our classmates huddled around a little table at one corner. They are chattering at the top of their voices and picking attention quickly."Harley Powers!" Nina calls out loud, snapping her fingers in front of my face and making me turn my attention back to her.Her toffee-colored hair hangs loose, framing her round face as she curves her lips to a disappointed look. She recently went to Hawaii for a family trip and got a tan, re
*Xavier's POVThe sight before me gave me a headache the moment I saw it. I have zero tolerance for guys like Mason Holiday. His trapping Harley between his arms and manhandling her like that is an absolute no-go.No one touches my girl.I walk towards them, striding casually, while Harley looks at me with her mouth opened in surprise. Mason has her pressed against his car and has his head turned towards me, watching me with curious eyes."Mason Holiday," I say when I reach them and the kid flinches unnecessarily."I think you have something of mine. May I please have her back?"My politeness is sarcastic and Mason releases Harley, trailing his eyes over my body from head to toe. He is shorter than me but not that short as to not look me in the eyes."Are you marrying him?" Mason turns to ask Harley but she has already moved from her place and is standing behind me.Mason jerks his head towards her and I feel her hands grip my arm.Harley Powers isn't the kind of woman who hides behin
*Harley's POVI stare in wonder as Xavier drives the car through a huge, silver gate and heads straight towards a palace that I could have only hoped to see someday in my dreams. The garden we pass through seems like it spreads across miles and has a beautiful fountain in the middle, surrounded by statues.I have never been to Xavier's house before. His place was for Bel, not me. I had no reason to visit this place but I heard Bel talk about it although she was really bad at describing things in detail. The mansion is huge, with three stories of stunning architecture made of white marble. The glass windows are large with wooden crafting decorating them. I can't help but roam my eyes around every part of the building, not able to get enough.Xavier stops the car right in front of the entrance and I see servants rushing towards us. I stare at the tall and fit man who opens the door to my side. He is dressed in a black T-shirt, black cords, black shoes and even has black sunglasses on. H
*Xavier's POVMy hands hurt as I continue hitting the punching bag with full strength. I have been going at it for an hour without stopping and even though my muscles ache and my knuckles feel like they have reached their breaking point, I can't seem to get rid of what Mom did today.I didn't bring Harley here for Mom to go ahead and embarrass me in front of her. I brought her here so that Mom could see for herself that I was telling the truth. I can't unsee Mom's tears. The last time I saw her cry was when Dad died four years ago. Her spilling tears today enrages me. Harley did this to her."You're hurting, Xavier." Mom's voice behind me stops me for a moment but I dismiss her and continue. She shouldn't be here anyway. The top floor of the house is entirely my space — everything from the gym to the swimming pool on the rooftop are my additions — no one is allowed to disturb me here."You embarrassed me today," I spit out without looking at her when I don't hear her leave; my voice s
*Harley's POVShit! I'm so late.As I step inside the house, I am greeted by darkness. The lights are off and everything is pitch black. Visiting the Everests is about to earn me a lecture from Dad. I quietly slip out of my shoes and pick them up, dangling them on two fingers as I climb up the stairs. I tiptoe most of the way, not wanting to wake my parents up. The lights are switched on just as I am about to enter my room, making me stop on my way.The universe is against me today.I am past my curfew time and even though I am a mature adult capable of taking care of herself and it shouldn't matter at all, Dad will be pissed when he sees me now. The man doesn't give a damn about my independence but is very cautious of me so that I don't end up dying like his son. It is annoying but that is the only thing I can't call him out on.I turn around slowly, shoes in hand, and find Mom and Dad looking at me. They are already dressed in their nightgowns which means they were about to retire f
*Harley's POVThe white wedding gown is beautiful. It has a deep V neck, classy but not slutty, that enhances my figure; it is full-sleeved with lavish detailing and has a lot of volume underneath. It reaches below my feet and drags over the floor when I stand. Overall, it is expensive and stunning.I didn't choose the gown; I didn't choose anything because I couldn't accept that I was indeed getting married in a week. I spent my days in my room, missing college and crying all the time. Mom did all my shopping for me and she is the one who dressed me today along with a few of her makeup artists. My hair is tied up in a beautiful updo and accentuates my heart-shaped face. There is a diamond necklace on my neck which sits between my collarbones, shining bright when the light falls on it.I feel nervous as I sit in front of the mirror. It will be a small ceremony, no media as a request for privacy, but the wedding will be mentioned in tomorrow's papers. Xavier said he had no control over
*Xavier's POVShe is not happy. She is not happy at all, which is shocking because she dug this grave for us herself. That's Harley Everest now — my wife, impulsive like her father."You may now kiss the bride," the priest says.I take a step forward and see her flinch away. It is a noticeable movement but I doubt anyone other than me has noticed it.I have been with many women in my life but never have I felt this nervous to kiss anyone. It is like walking into a death trap. With a happy curve of my lips, I slowly lift the veil off her face, pretending how much I am in love with the love of my life.I am left stars-truck. Harley looks breathtaking. I don't know who dressed her but they just enhanced her beauty even more without altering anything and that fucks me up. How am I supposed to just kiss her when she looks like that? This is torture. Her shiny blue eyes look at me and I see the hesitation in them as I curl my fingers around the nape of her neck while leaning in close. Her s
