The Loneliest Kid
Maeve and Sister Helena were quietly seated on a wooden bench in the garden as they watch over the kids who were busy chasing September around.
He's not actually running, everybody else can see how confused he is that the kids keeps on following him around.
"I think he was that kid," Sister Helena blurted out. Maeve turned to her with confusion. The nun smiled as she stared at the roundabout walk-a-thon that's happening in front of them.
"Sister Rose had been my mentor before I took on her place as the head of the orphanage almost nine years ago. And while I was under her training, she keeps on talking about this little boy." Sister Helena has this sad smile across her lips as she started the storytelling.
"Almost all of the kids here was given up after birth. But this kid wasn't, he gets to live a miserable life under the care of an abusive father and an alcoholic mother for seven years before the father died of cancer and his mother was nowhere to be found." The nun took her time to pause for a bit to get a hold of her emotions. It was really a painful life story led by a young boy.
"The kid is smart. A genius at that, but he can't seem to get along with anyone. He doesn't have friends. He was... lonely." Maeve's eyes flew to the guy who was now trying to hid his smile as he subtly increase his speed causing for the kids to run a bit to caught up to him.
That guy... lonely?
"He grew up without experiencing affection. As per Sister Rose's words, he doesn't know about love or even caring. All he does is act on instinct. He takes what he wants, he fought with other kids for toys that he wanted, he never liked sharing no matter how much the people from here taught him how important that is. He just acts without thinking of others. He just wanted to survive." Maeve turned her attention back to the nun.
"He was the loneliest kid this orphanage ever had." The nun solemnly said.
"September!" The children's laughter caught their attention, abruptly cutting their storytelling session. Both of their lips unconsciously curved into a smile as they saw September running as he was being chased with the children.
It looks kinda odd to see a full-grown man wearing a corporate attire running around while being chase by a group of children probably aging from four to ten years old. But never the less, it was indeed a heartwarming sight for Maeve especially after hearing Sister Helena's story.
The both of them stayed until dinner before Maeve decided that it was time to go. They bid farewell to the nuns and the people in-charge before saying goodbye to the children. A four year old little girl cried so hard after September told her that he's leaving already.
"No! September! Stay!" The little girl cried harder while trying to get off the caretaker who was caring her. September stared at the child for a while before sighing and to everyone's surprise, he walked towards the orphanage's staff who was carrying Fiona.
"Let me," the staff immediately let the kid transfer to him. Fiona immediately latched into his body in a hurry.
"I'll be back soon, Fiona." He whispered softly, but the kid shook her head, obviously not believing his words.
"No. Leave Fiona No!" The little girl cried as she struggled to speak.
September didn't know what to do to make the child stop crying. Maeve watched in amusement as September reluctantly let the child rest on his shoulder while gently gliding his palm on the child's back.
It took them another hour just to pacify Fiona and numerous promises that they'll be back soon.
The drive back was silent. September's mind keep running back to the child who seems so reluctant to let him leave.
He knows the feeling of being left behind. Of being alone. And it wasn't great, hell, it's no where good.
"She'll be fine," Maeve assured him without looking at him.
September turned his head to her direction and a soft smile appeared as she stare at the woman who unexpectedly caught his heart.
"Would you mind if I adopt her?" He asked which caused for Maeve to glance at him with confusion before returning her eyes on the road.
"Why are you asking me?"
"I told you. You're gonna be Mrs. Thorne soon. So if I do adopt a child it would also be yours," Maeve almost gasp as soon as he finished speaking.
Just what... Oh my gosh! How can she forget how this man's mind work?!
"I'm not gonna marry you," she said bluntly.
September looked away and directed his gaze outside the window of the running car instead.
"You would be. I'll make sure of it." He said with full of conviction.
Maeve laughed humorlessly before stopping the car on the side road. September stared at her, questioning.
"Get off." She ordered. September's forehead creased as he failed to understand what she meant.
"Get off my car right now or I'll fucking dragged your ass off the road?!"
"What's your problem?" September asked. He was completely baffled with this quick change of treatment.
"You are. You are my problem, you greedy asshole. You can never have me. I'll never marry you!" She spatted.
September ignored the sharp pain that he felt on his heart as he listens to all the angry words his woman was uttering.
By the time Maeve was done speaking, she was almost panting. She had never spoken that angrily ever. She's never fond of verbal quarrels and whatnots but she wasn't able to stop herself this time.
How can she forget this nasty man's nature just because he looked soft around children? Maybe bringing him to that orphanage was not a great idea at all!
She was distracted for a while but now she can see his true colors once again.
"Get the fucking off my car!" She hissed when September remained seated while staring at her calmly.
"Is that what you want?" He asked softly. Maeve tried her best not to get swayed. She reminded herself that this was the great manipulator, of course he'll do something to try manipulating her.
"Of course!" September stared at her for a while before releasing a small smile along with a series of short nods. He silently unbuckled his seatbelts before he faced her once again.
"I'll give you whatever you want. Just say so." He said before he opened the door of the passenger seat and got out of the car. As soon as he closed the door the car sped away without any warning.
September sighed as he watched the back of the black BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe disappear.
Not even a minute later an Alfa Romeo Stelvio car stopped right in front of him. Falcon got off the driver's seat as he opened the backseat for his boss.
He had located the two earlier but didn't showed himself after seeing that his boss was not really in any way of harm. He was kinda lost though, as to why the car stopped and why his boss was left on the road while looking so dejected.
With a sigh, September entered the car as he rested his head on the backrest of the car while Falcon drove smoothly.
"Why does wooing a woman so difficult?" Falcon heard his boss muttered to himself.
He wanted to say that it wasn't actually supposed to be so hard if only it wasn't their great Miss Maeve Miller. That woman was like a human with an ice cold heart!
Something Only Mr. Thorne Can Do"Why don't you just marry him?" Maeve wanted to throw her laptop towards Hillary who was comfortably lying on the couch of her office."Why are you here again?" She asked in an irritated voice, but her sister just laughed at her."I just ran away from the date Mom had set up," she answered with a groan."Why?" Maeve asked as she took her eyes off her sister and went back to checking the financial flows of the company on her laptop.Hillary's eyes widened as if an idea struck her. She immediately got up from the couch and ran off to her sister's table."Maeve!" Confused with
His First HomemadeMeal"You really don't like him?" Maeve tsked and gave her sister a warning gaze before prepping the steak Hillary had requested.Afraid that her sister would change her mind about that steak, Hillary shut her mouth and even gestured zipping her lips. It didn't take long before Maeve finish cooking as Hillary set the table for the two of them."What is it?" Maeve asked her sister as she cut her steak into tiny tidbits. She noticed the frequency of those stolen glances her sister was giving her while they ate.Hillary cleared her throat and set down her utensils before she faced her sister seriously."What do
The Rain is Pouring"Stop grinning like an idiot!" Maeve hissed irritatedly before she glanced back at the open door of her apartment."The rain is pouring. You told me I'm sick." September shamelessly pointed out. He's obviously happy with how fate works on his favor."You have your car. It's not like you'll be on foot on the way home." She retorted as she crossed her arms."But I'm sick!" September whined like a child that made Maeve chuckled."You said you weren't sick. I thought you're just hungry?" She asked with her right brow raising in an interrogating manner.September internally scolded himself fo
Vicious Queen"You're a young woman! You should be on the search to find a good husband and not here, interfering with men doing business!" An old board member of the MBC Bank and Finance pointed out as he stared at Maeve who was calmly seated on the center of the conference room.Maeve was just passively listening to his rants while staring back at him with a cold and bored look on her face."You'll just ruin the business! Business should be handled by men! Women are supposed to be staying at home, taking care of the kids---""That's bullshit." She was rude enough to butt in her curses while the man had been rumbling about nonsensical things.Maeve stood up
PowerfulDuo"I hope you're not just planning to just put that Johns on exile, right?" September inquired as he busy himself filling Maeve's plate with the lunch Falcon had prepared for them.Maeve took her eyes off the files she was reading and directed her attention to September with a smirk."What do you think?" She asked menacingly. September stared at her face for a while before he chuckled and smoothly pushed the disposable plate towards her."Alright. Good thing that you had some plans to deal with him or else, I would have stepped in." He said as he subtly keep her working aids aside. Her eyes darted towards him when she realized what he was doing but he just showed her
Their First CasualtyMr. Johns almost fell to his knees when he heard Maeve's response. He stared at the young man who was now staring at him menacingly."How 'bout playing for a bit? I'm in a good mood lately." September sounded like he was trying to console the old man but Mr. Johns knew better. He was just prolonging his agony. The end would all still be the same. He's ruined."Finish your food, Maeve." September reminded her while his eyes remained on Mr. Johns. Maeve snorted and finished the last spoonful of salad that he had put on her plate."Done." She said as she put her plate away. Her eyes then wandered on the almost untouched plate in front of he
Mrs. Thorne"Sir, I don't think Ms. Miller would appreciate this move." Falcon voiced out in a quiet voice as he stared at the paper in front of him.September don't know what to make of the marriage certificate in front of him. It was sent by Mr. Smith, Maeve's father. The document was sent via a courier so Falcon had no idea what it was not until it had reached September's hands."It wasn't me." September denied when he realized the doubting stares his butler was giving him."It's really not me!" He defended once again when Falcon's suspicious eyes only showed a stronger dubiousness.Falcon had to think and analyze him twice before he was able to believe his words.
Married"Where's September?" She asked as she walked in inside the gates, not gracing the guards any glances."This way, Ma'am." Falcon said leading the way towards the huge mansion.Maeve and Hillary on his heels, the trio walked the distance from the gate to the mansion in silence."Mr. Thorne's inside." The butler informed as he gestured the door of September's office.Maeve opened the door and immediately took a step inside it. Hillary was about to follow her sister inside when she was suddenly pulled back by Falcon before the door was closed.September was already seated behind his table. As if he was
September's End"September!" September came rushing to their room holding a spatula when he heard his wife calling out to him.He was wearing a pink apron with a huge heart print in the middle. The words 'Best Dad in the World' was printed with large letters inside the heart."What's wrong, hon?" He asked worriedly as he walked over their bed where Maeve with a nine months old tummy was panting hard."I think she's coming out!" She said and once again screamed in agony as she felt another contraction.September's eyes widened as he hastily put the spatula by their table side as he called for his eldest."Yes, Dad?" Fiona who was now seven, looked at her parents with questioning eyes as she enter the master bedroom."Fiona, please prepare your mom's bag and the baby bag too. And please hurry, wake up Freazel too," he instructed as he carried the panting and groaning wife out of their room."It's alright
A Baby?!September was planting soft kisses on Maeve's bare shoulder as they laid on the bed with nothing but a thick blanket covering their bodies.Maeve was silently smiling with her eyes closed as she enjoy bathing with her husband's presence."How did you found out about the Kims?" He asked after another blissful moment.Maeve turned and faced September who was now staring directly at her eyes. She gently caressed his face with her fingers."I have my ways," ahe said playfully."And you still won't tell me about it?" Maeve shook her head with a smile."That's my ace, hon. If ever you do something on ny back I'll know." September's arms snake down her bare waist and pulled her closer to his body."Do something like what?""Like having a mistress," she said as she rained kisses on his face."That wouldn't happen."Maeve stopped playing around and just rested her forehead against his."R
Back Into His Arms"You look tense, sir." Falcon pointed out as he gave September a quick glance at the backseat. They were now on the way back to his house. His home."You're really not a part of this?" September asked suspiciously for the nth time.Falcon chuckled and shook his head as his eyes remained on the road."For the nth time, I wasn't. I'm not aware of this play your wife had set up, okay? Besides even though she did inform me about this, I would still say it to you. My loyalty's with you and not with your wife." September just smirked at the butler's sneaky response. He took a deep breath when he finally saw his house from a distance. He don't know what to expect. Would they act like before? Would it be awkward?"We're here," Falcon stopped the car in front of the huge house before looking at his boss through the mirror.September gazed outside the window, he nervously took a deep brea
Surprise Gift"During the sudden change of management, we had also conducted an investigation with each employee and stakeholders of the company," Chris recited in front of the board members while his lady-boss was busy doing something on her phone.Maeve's face looked passive and uncaring which makes the people inside feel more fear and caution towards her.She was the only one who can bring in the seven bosses of the business industry as mere board members anyway, who wouldn't fear her?But little did everyone knew, Maeve was busy texting on the phone. It was last night when September called her for the first time after the scene of her asking for divorce. She can still remember how startled she was seeing September's number flash on her mobile screen. They just asked each other how they were doing. September never asked about anything regarding the reason why she did all of it and why they need to be apart fo
I Know My WifeSeptember was busy towing the soil in the garden when he heard the familiar sound of a car parking in front of the apartment. With a smile, he took off his gloves and washed his hands before leaving the garden to open the door after the doorbell rang."Daddy!" Fiona squealed cheerfully as she jumped into her father's arm."How's my princess?" September asked sweetly after the child rained his face with tiny kisses."I missed you soooo bad!" September chuckled with her antics before he turned his attention to the woman who brought his daughter back to visit him again."And what excuse did you use this time?" He asked Celeste after Fiona's attention was suddenly stolen by Terius, the golden retriever he adopted a month ago."Nah. I just took her from your house. Maeve was out for a meeting and only the hired nanny was there to keep an eye on her." September gaped at his friend after hearing tha
When a Queen leads a War"Remus," The tech guy immediately turned his swivel chair to face Maeve who just entered his dark office."Tss. Put the lights on, asshole.""You're now a married woman and raising a three year old daughter but still foul-mouthed as ever." Remus said as he clicked the control of lights under his desk."Wow. This looks like a pig pen," Maeve said as she looked around the messy office with a disgusted face."Does Celeste even knew you work like this?" She asked as she tossed the unknown items seated at his couch that used to be there for guests."Yah! I thought your husband's the manipulator! How did you know about my girlfriend?!" Remus asked with an astonished and unbelieving expression."Now I understand why you had to keep the lights off. This is gross, Remus." She complained, changing the subject as she kick away some chords that were scattered on the floor."N
To End YouFalcon's expression changed after hearing September's words. The coordinator didn't know what to do as he cluelessly stared at the two powerful men."Please do announce that the wedding is cancelled," September said as he shifts his attention to the coordinator. He saw the coordinator's lips parted in shock before he nodded and went back to the arranged area."What's inside the envelope?" September asked after they were left alone."Your properties that had been transferred to Maeve's name." September stared at him as if asking what's wrong with that."All of your properties, September. Everything. She left you with nothing but a complex apartment in the city.""What?""Yes, September. Your wife took everything from you." Falcon said with a serious expression.Meanwhile, Maeve was pacing back and forth in their bedroom. Her eyes were stinging as she held the phone in her
TragicThe whole placed looked so lively as kids dressed in white and pastel fairy gowns ran around while being chase by those little boys who were wearing pastel colored tux as well. The garden looks so magical as it was decorated with vines like materials and colorful flowers. The cheerful sounds of laughter and discussions from the guests also filled the place with liveliness.September smiled as he looked down from the balcony of the room he was using. A few hours from now, he'll be meeting his wife in the altar. He'll finally see the prettiest bride he'd ever see as she walked down the aisles to him. He knows that they were already married and this was just for formality to some people. But to him, today would be the start of their true marriage."Daddy!" September turned around to face his daughter who just came inside the room with Falcon's daughter. They were both wearing the same style of fair
Wedding Dress"Today's my schedule for fitting my gown. Are you free? Can you join me?" Maeve asked as she carefully choose what suit September should wear today. She was torn between the ash-gray glossy suit and the dirt-brown one.September silently watched her solve her mini dilemma with a smile. He was leaning by the closet waiting for his wife to finally decide what would be his outfit for today."So? Are you free?" She asked looking up to him for a few seconds before returning her attention back to the clothes she was holding."I can squeeze it before lunch,""Great. Then you should wear this," he chuckled when she finally put the brown one back to the closet and neatly placed the ash-gray suit on the bed.Maeve turned to him and clinged her arms around his nape. She rested her forehead to his and let their noses meet."Love you..." She whispered which made September smile."
