Chapter Seven: Hector

Hector walks into the game room and perceives that they have many games. From pool, darts, corn hole, archery, to knife throwing. Hector notices a few vampires and demons hanging out, playing games as they walk in. They spy Trevor by the pool table, playing with two demons.

“Look who finally passed the first part of the training.” Trevor sneers at them.

“Took you long enough as well. You just passed one day before us. Besides, Hector passed on his first night,” Ruby sasses him.

“Shut it Ruby, no one needs your smart mouth,” says Trevor.

“It's not necessary to be mean to her. She speaks the truth. You just passed,” says Hector.

Trevor sets his pool stick down on the table. “Look here Hector, she's been a smart mouth off since she got here. I wouldn’t defend her. Besides, isn’t she the reason you’re here now?” says Trevor, getting closer to Hector.

“She is part of the reason, but from what I understand, she was doing as she was told,” says Hector.

“Think again. She volunteered for the mission.” Trevor goes back to his game.

Hector looks at her and feels the hate fill him again. “You volunteered to trick me?” asks Hector.

Ruby looks away, biting her lip. “I didn’t know what the assignment was, technically. I just wanted to get out of the castle for a bit. They said they needed a female's help. I didn’t know it was to trick you until we were in the woods waiting for you,” says Ruby.

“So, I was the target, then?” asks Hector. “It wasn’t random?” He looks at Ruby, hoping it was random.

“As far as I know it wasn’t random. They said to look for you. They described you. We saw you on the deer stand, waiting. When you shot the deer, I was told to get your attention. Hector, I don’t know why they chose you, but we waited for you,” says Ruby .

Hector feels like he can’t breathe. They targeted me. Why? Hector thinks.

Ash sees the tension and tries to break it. “Look, no one knows why we are chosen, but we are. Let’s just try to put this behind us. We are in this together. Let’s play a game,relax and celebrate. The first part of the training is done,” says Ash.

Hector nods as they walk over to the darts board.

“Who wants to go first?” asks Ash.

Ruby, seeing Hector is still in thought, decides to pull him out of it. “Come on, let’s play,” calls Ruby .

“I don’t know if I am really in the mood, guys,” says Hector.

“Oh, come on, we can even make it interesting. I know you wanted the bathroom this morning. If you beat me, I'll let you have it first tonight and tomorrow morning if you get up in time,” Ruby says with a mischievous smile.

Hector smiles. “Fine, but I must warn you. I have never lost a game of darts before,” boasts Hector.

Ruby laughs. Ash sets up the game, happy that the tension from before has broken

“Ladies first,” challenges Hector.

“So what rules are we playing by? 501 rules or throwing and adding score?” asks Ash.

“Well, since it is a challenge, let’s play the 501 way,” decides Hector.

“Fine by me. Either way you will lose. It will just take a little more time,” cautions Ruby.

Hector smirks at Ruby. “Please, I have been playing this game since I could walk,” Hector boasts.

“How were you that tall, Hector?” asks Ash.

“Oh yes, please do tell. How tall?” Ruby chuckles.

Hector takes the darts from Ash and hands them to Ruby.

“My mother works at the bar and she didn’t have a sitter, so I grew up playing with the town drunks.” answers Hector dejectedly.

Ruby, at a loss for words, takes the darts and throws her first one. It hits the 20 on the treble.

“I will keep score,” says Ash.

“That is 60 points,since the treble is triple the number,” states Ash.

Ash writes that down and Ruby throws her second dart. It lands on the single 19. Ruby throws her last dart, and it lands on bull eye.

“Not a bad first throw. Now watch and learn, little girl,” brags Hector. Hector walks over to the board and gets the darts.

“I am not little. Like you can do better,” hisses Ruby.

“Let’s try to have some fun, you two. So, the first round for Ruby is 372. Not bad for the first throw,” cheers Ash.

“My turn,” says Hector.

Hector smiles at Ruby as he throws his first dart. The first one lands on the 18 on the trebles. Then he quickly throws his second, landing a bull's eye, and then his third, which lands on 20 trebles.

Ash goes to the board and counts the darts to give them the score.

“Hector, your score this round is 337. You are currently in the lead. My turn,” says Ash.

He grabs the darts and goes to the line. Smiling and having a good time with his new friends.

Ash throws his first dart and lands a bull’s eye. The second dart lands on trebles 20 and the third lands on  trebles 19. Hector goes to the board and counts this round for Ash.

“Ash's score is 334 and this puts him in the lead.” Announced Hector.

“Well, it looks like Ash knows how to play too. Do you want to get in on our wager?” Ruby asks sweetly.

Ash is hung up on her every word. He just stares at her, thinking. “What can I get out of this?”

Out loud Ash says, “Well, I have to share with Trevor, so how can I?”

“Well, you can add any other wage you like and if you win you get your done..” Say Hector.

“Very well, my wage is this then. If I win, Ruby has to go to dinner with me and Hector gets to shower first,” states Ash.

“That works for me,” says Hector, smiling and high-fiving Ash.

“I am surrounded by boys. Fine, but either way Hector gets what he wants, and that isn’t very fair.”  Ruby pouts.

“Oh, don’t be like that, baby. I like you a lot and Hector here needs a friend,” states Ash.

“You’re lucky you’re cute,” Ruby whispers to Ash.

Ruby takes the darts and starts the next round. She thinks I must beat Hector to wipe that smirk off his face. Now I must beat Ash too to keep Hector from winning.”

Ruby sways her hips as she throws the darts. She watches as Hector and Ash both watch her, and she notices both have aroused cocks. “I wonder how big Hector is. Maybe I'll take him to bed just to see. Ash is a sweetheart. I don’t know if I can play that game with him. Ruby thinks as she throws her darts.

Hector is watching her and notices his cock is stirring. It is just because she is a woman and she is so frustrated. Why did I have to get paired with her? Hector thinks.

Ruby throws 5 trebles, 7 trebles and bull's eye.

Ash counts the numbers. He smiles at Ruby. “You’re not bad at this, but I don’t know if you can beat me though.” 

“Score for this round is 286. Hector, your turn,” says Ash.

Hector takes the darts from Ash. Hector throws his second round. 20 trebles, bull eyes, and 19 trebles. Ash counts it up. Hector smiles at Ruby.

“I can’t wait to get a hot shower. I think I will be first.” Hector states.

“We shall see.You still have a few rounds left. Anything can happen.” Ruby smiles at him.

“170 for this round, Hector. I think we are going to need to step it up, Ruby, or we are going to lose to him,” says Ash.

“Don’t encourage him, Ash. He's got a cocky attitude already,” says Ruby .

“If you say so baby,” says Ash.

“Stop calling me that, Ash,”  says  Ruby with a sigh.

“Yeah, you don’t want to be with her, Ash. You’re too good for her,” says Hector.

Ruby looks hurt, but tries to mask it with a smile.

Ash senses the tension and decides to take his turn and throw his darts.

Ash gets 13 trebles, 12 trebles and 16 trebles. Hector counts the score up.

“Ash's score for this round is 224. Looks like you’re in last place, Ruby,” states Hector.

“Don’t worry about me, doll. I am not a sore loser. I can win or lose with grace. Can you?” Ruby asks Hector.

“Easy killers. We are all on the same side. We are all training to be vampires in the Skorn army,” says Ash.

Hector hears Ash’s words and remembers why he is here. Hector had forgotten for a moment. That his life was stolen from him.

“He's right. We are on the same side. I am sorry Ruby,” says Hector.

“It’s fine. We are just having a little fun,” states Ruby.

Ruby takes the darts for another round. Ruby throws a bull’s eye, 17 doubles and 15 trebles. Ash does the math.

“Ruby, your score this round is 157. We might need just one more round,” states Ash.

Hector doesn't say anything. He is ready to go get a shower and get some sleep. He throws 20 doubles, bull's eyes and 15 singles.

“Hector's score this round is 105,” states Ash, taking the darts for his turn.

Ash senses the vibe has changed and decides he is ready to call it a night too. Ash throws a bull’s eye, 20 trebles and 14 doubles. Hector is not paying attention, so Ruby goes to count the score.

“Ash's score is 86. Damn I might need to get a dress for our date.” Ruby smiles.

Ash blushes, but smiles back.

Ruby takes her last round and throws 20 doubles, 17 doubles and bull's eye.

“You're so close, Ruby, but I don’t think it's enough to beat me or Hector.What you think Hector.” Ash calls.

Hector comes out of his bad mood. “Yeah, it will be close for sure, but I think I am getting a hot shower very soon either way.” Hector smirks at her.

“Yeah, you both laugh it up. This game isn’t over yet,” declares Ruby.

“Nope, it’s not yet. Ruby’s final score is 33.

Hector throws his last round:  20 single, 17 single and bull's eye.

“I think I just beat you Ruby, but let’s see if I can win it all. Your turn Ash.”

“Hector's final score is 18,” states Ash.

Everyone watches Ash take his last three shots. The group is so lost in their game, they don’t notice the rest of the room watching them play and taking bets on who will win.

Ash throws his last round of darts. Bull's eye,  10 single and 8 trebles.

Hector and Ruby both count it up and Hector laughs and Ruby throws her hands up.

“Damn, it's Ash. I guess you get that date after all. Just not tonight,” says Ruby.

“Thanks man, I get to have a hot shower first.”

“That's fine, but what was the final score, you two?” asks Ash.

“Oh, right Ash, your final score was 2,” says Hector.

The room is filled with cheers and groans.

“Well, this was fun but I'm going to get that shower,” says Hector.

Hector waves bye to everyone and heads up to the room and takes a hot shower before he falls into a warm bed to sleep. Hector is so out of it he doesn’t even hear Ruby come in later.
