Elaina had been assigned bedrest for a week after Samantha came and evaluated her. By the second day she was ready to get up and move, but Charise decided to stick around and stand guard.
Elaina had told her about trying to tell Chase that she didn’t want anything romantic from him, but ended up saying she loved him instead. Charise of course had been thrilled by the outcome, saying that she had hoped she would come to her senses.
Still reeling from the whole ordeal Elaina hadn’t bothered trying to argue about it.
By the third day the elders had arrived and had insisted on speaking with Elaina immediately. After a thorough examination from Samantha she got the ok to get out of bed, but only long enough to meet with them and then had to go back to relaxing.
Elaina was all nerves as she slowly got cleaned up and dressed, terrified about what the elders would say to her once she recounted everything that had happene
“They can’t be serious!” Charise yelled in outrage. Elaina had sat quietly listening to her rage on about the elders plan for retrieving the devil’s ceptor. Of course Charise wouldn’t want Elaina to take them to it, going out into the open was pretty much like handing yourself over to the enemy. “What can they be thinking doing that? What if Rathial follows them and then attacks?” Elaina didn’t bother responding, instead she waited until Charise was sure to have everything out of her system. “I won’t let them, they are not taking you anywhere.” Elaina played with the edge of the blanket she was wrapped up in. “I don’t really think you can stop them.” She pointed out now not bothering to look up at her friend. “I mean, they’re the highest power in the brotherhood, they kind of call the shots.” Charise turned her eyes flashing with anger. She stomped towards the edge of Elaina’s bed.
Elaina dodged the first burlack beast attack landing painfully on her side.Cursing herself for not taking her friends warnings more seriously she scrambled off the ground and prepared herself for the next attack. Two burlack beasts stood on either side of her. She used her periphery vision to watch both waiting for their next move.In front of her Rathial made his way towars Elder Lionel, who had managed to draw a sword out of thin air, odd. The burlack beast to her left moved drawing all her attention. With a quick flick of her wrist she threw her dagger. It planted itself square in the beasts chest blood gushing out quickly as the creature crumpled to the ground. The beast to her left moved to charge beak open a shriek of rage escaping from it. Elaina turned fast sweeping her sickle across the beasts face, managing to take out one of its eyes. It reared back for a moment before lunging f
Chase remained stunned his wide eyes still fixed on Elaina. She sat patiently waiting for everything to settle, already preparing herself for the look of disgust and accusations that would come next.Slowly his face went from stunned, to confused, before finally settling on disbelief. He didn’t speak as he grabbed both of Elaina’s hands tugging her towards him. Caught off guard Elaina allowed him to hug her for a minute before quickly squirming away. Chase looked a little hurt as she righted herself again, being sure to keep a little distance between them.“You don’t want me to touch you now?” He asked quietly looking away.Shocked at his words Elaina let out a hysterical giggle. “I just told you that I possess the blood of the dark and all you’re worried about is me not wanting to be touched?”For a second Chase looked taken aback. “Elaina, I don&rsq
The sound of metal grinding together woke Elaina. Heart pounding she jumped up to face whoever was coming. Elder Joseph waltzed forward carrying a plate with nothing more than a piece of bread and an old slice of cheese on it. Eyeing Elaina he opened a slot in the bars of her cell and shoved it towards her. “I don’t suppose you’re bringing me this in order to poison me are you?” Elaina asked frowning at the food. “It would probably be the smart thing to do.” Elder Joseph made a noise of disgust. “Honestly I felt we should just let you starve, but Samantha insisted that we bring you food.” So Samantha knows I’m here and doesn’t care. Elaina thought bitterly. “I don’t want your food.” She spat throwing the plate back at him. “I’ll help you along with the starvation thing.” “You’re only making matters worse with that smart mouth of yours child.” Elder Joseph said now stepping away from the food that lan
Elaina’s arms ached as she swung her battle axe at the dark warrior taunting her. Underneath her, her legs felt like jelly. Despite her best efforts he was getting through her defenses and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could hold out. Blood ran down her face in waves as her opponent manged to slice a deep gash in her forehead.“Have you had enough?” He asked now stepping forward sword held high above him.Gritting her teeth Elaina shook her head in response. She could still hear the sounds of fighting all around, many bodies littered the grounds, but she wasn’t sure if it was dark warriors or light. Above the sun had begun to disappear behind angry looking black clouds. A loud rumble of thunder caught everyone’s attention. The dark warrior in front of Elaina looked to her dropping his sword.Placing two fingers in his mouth he let out a piercing wh
Night had come making everything seem eery as the fire rain continued to fall in the distance. Smoke filled the air around them making it almost impossible to breath properly. After a long debate the elders had agreed that it was best to burn the bodies of the fallen in the proper manner. Elaina stared at the large fire before her, the remnants of dead warriors almost completely gone now. It gave a little warmth to the cold fall evening. She clutched the devils scepter in her hand turning it over and over. Samantha had let her hang onto it for the time being since nobody else could put it to use if the wards that elders spent hours putting up didn’t hold.Elaina stared quietly at the scepters handle, the silver glinting in the fires unholy glow. Each of the black crystals embedded in the handle flashed with energy. The three prongs at the end hummed, begging her to allow it to be released. &nb
Elaina awoke to the blaring white light of the sun. After spending so much time underground her eyes had forgotten how bright it was. The air smelled thick of smoke, but all the fire from the night before had finally ended. Beside her Christopher still slept soundly looking almost peaceful. In the morning light she could see gashes along his face, which had been the source of all the blood on him. Nasty scabs mixed with ash and dirt covered them.Sighing Elaina got up deciding she would go find a first aid kit to try and clean them to see just how bad the damage was. Her muscles screamed at her from her night on the ground. Stretching she tried to loosen them a bit with no luck.Around her people still slept soundly, if it wasn’t for the bandages and soreson them she could almost believe that they had just had a massive campout.Quickening her pace Elaina made her way
Something cold and wet wiped itself along Elaina’s cheek as she began to come to. Pain seared its way through her whole body. Groaning Elaina lifted an arm and tried to ward off whatever was touching her.She felt her hand make contact with something almost as soft as velvet. Eyes flying open she found herself face to face with the creature that had come to her side before she passed out. As she moved her hand along its side a happy chortle escaped its lips. The creature stuck out its long snake like tongue and ran it along Elaina’s cheek.“Stop that.” Elaina sighed trying to shoo the creature away from her.It scuttled back just a little bit its nose twitching as it watched her. She watched it carefully not really sure what to think. Cocking its head to the side the creature took a few tentative steps towards her, only to scuttle back again as the pounding of footsteps mad
Six years later....Elaina watched as Carson and Lianna played in the field just beyond the crystal caves entrance. The little boys curly white hair swayed in the soft breeze as he tried with all his might to swipe it out of his face. Beside him his little sister picked a flower and shoved it at his face while giggling. Swatting the flower the boy attempted to try to act tough.Chuckling Elaina limped forward to join her children. After so many years she still couldn't stop herself from looking down at the metal leg she was now sporting and smiling, it was after all a reminder of the greatest victory of her life.Lianna was the first to hear her approach. Turning she locked her big green eyes that resembled Chase's on Elaina before giving a big toothy grin."Mama!" The little girl called jumping up and running to her. "Mama, look what I picked for Carson!"Elaina smiled at her daughter, "I saw i
"You did well child." Ezra's soft voice floated to Elaina as she hovered peacefully in the darkness. "But now is not your time to leave.""What do you mean?" Elaina asked looking around only to find emptiness. "I've already died.""Your human self died." Ezra corrected. "Your dark self has not." He continued."But I'm so tired." Elaina sighed as she felt herself slipping again."Child, I still have something to ask of you." Ezra continued drawing Elaina's attention to him."What's that?" Elaina asked."I need you to lead the underworld now." Ezra said carefully. "With Rathial gone there is no one to take his place, except you of course.""What do you mean?" Elaina demanded. "How could I possibly do something like that? What about my friends and Chase?"Laughing Ezra began to take form as Elaina's darkness turned to the lush green flower field again. Attempting to stand Elaina collapsed,
Rathial snarled at Elaina as she began to move towards him. Behind her lay a pile of dead dark warriors that hadn't been able to hold their own against the infuriated Elaina."So glad to see you coward." Elaina beamed as she continued moving forward. "Thought you'd be safe hiding down here did you?"Feeling her rage building Elaina lunged at Rathial slashing her sword towards his chest. Easily dodging Rathial cackled as Elaina righted herself ready for the next attack."What do you expect to do letting your anger get the best of you?" Rathial taunted. "You came here looking to easily die didn't you."Snapping his fingers he tried to use his power against Elaina, but it didn't work. With her human self gone she was now immune to any and all dark powers, after all she was amongst the dark herself now."That trick won't work on me this time." It was Elaina's turn to laugh.Caught off guard Rathial didn't have
Elaina woke earlier than Chase the next morning. Sounds of people beginning their day could be heard just out in the hallway as she quickly searched for her clothes. After Chase had fallen asleep the night before, Elaina had made a decision and now she planned on setting that choice into action. Fully dressed she looked to Chase once more before quickly rushing out of the room.As Elaina made her way through the bunkard she ignored the glares that she recieved from the few warriors that were roaming about. Their looks of disgust and distrust no longer mattered to her, after all she was leaving this place anyway.Waving she quickened her pace and hurried up the stairs and out into the open air beyond. The sky remained a bloody red above as ash had begun to fall. Taking in the scene Elaina strengthened her resolve. She was no longer going to wait around for Rathial to come to her, instead she was going to go to him.
"What's going on?" Christopher asked as Elaina and Chase entered the room. He had been lounging on his bed reading through a book on mythical creatures when they arrived. "Why is Elaina here?""Are you using that to learn more about yourself?" Elaina asked ignoring Christopher's questions and snatching the book to examine it. "Look up abaasy.""I know." Christopher huffed taking the book back. "Why are you here?""I wanted to talk to her alone." Chase said giving Christopher a pointed look.Taking the hint Christopher grudgingly got up and stomped towards the door. Giving Chase an annoyed glance he walked out slamming the door behind him."Was that really necessary?" Elaina asked keeping her gaze fixed on the door. "Does he not know about your parents?""Not many know." Chase admitted before motioning for Elaina to have a seat. "It happened so long ago that the younger warrior's weren't old enough to
"You should have fought back." Samantha lectured as she worked on patching up Elaina's more severe wounds. As Elaina had insisted earlier most had begun to heal already, at least the ones that weren't so bad. Elaina didn't know if she should be thankful for her new quick healing ability or be sad since it meant that she truly no longer was a human."If I fought back would it make them trust me?" Elaina asked instead catching Samantha off guard."Would you be able to earn their trust if you died?" Samantha countered shoving a stitch through a particularly severe wound on Elaina's shoulder."I can't die again Samantha." Elaina pointed out.Frowning she tried to come to terms with the fact that she couldn't even feel the needle going through her skin, Elaina let out a long breath."You don't know that for sure." Samantha said as she finished her suturing."I'm technically dead." Elaina countered.Samantha stopped what she wa
The crowd gathered around Elaina had grown immensely and had backed her into a wall. Keeping her expression calm she stared ahead waiting to see exactly what these people intended to do to her."You shouldn't look so cocky still monster." The man who had started the whole ordeal bellowed as the group behind him agreed."Pathetic." Elaina hissed. "Picking on a defenseless woman.""I don't see a defenseless woman." The man laughed. "Only a monster."Elaina couldn't help but laugh at the mans words. How was she the monster when all of them were the ones ganging up on her like a bunch of savages?"I need you to move now." Elaina said moving forward. "I need to find Samantha and Oliver.""You have no business with our leaders monster." The man snapped lunging forward ready to fight Elaina.Stepping to the side she allowed the man to topple into the wall she had just been backed against. Not botheri
"Do you truly think you can defeat me?" Rathial laughed as Elaina lunged at him with her trident."Don't underestimate me, you owe me three lives." Elaina growled as a blue ball of energy shot from the end of the trident slamming into Rathial's chest. "You took people that were precious from me!"Elaina could feel the fire within her growing as she spoke of Charisse and her parents. Rage flared deep in her heart as the eletrictiy at the end of her trident crackled and sparked flaring as fire made its way up the staff."What is this?" Rathial demanded eyes widening.Instead of responding Elaina growled moving forward once more slamming the hilt of the Trident into Rathial's gut sending him flying backwards. Jumping on top of him Elaina grabbed hold of his throat and began to squeeze as her need to kill grew."So cute." Rathial coughed cackling as Elaina tightened her grip. "I am not like a normal person that can be killed thi
The next day came in a blaze of red and orange, the sky above had completely lost its blue hue and was left with a red tint as if reflecting all the blood that was being spilt around them. Looking up Elaina squinted her eyes as she spotted what looked like ash beginning to fall."Ash storm?" She murmured holding out a hand and allowing some of the grey substance to land on her palm. "The end is getting nearer."Beside her Chase sucked in a harsh breath, "What did you say?""When the sky turns red and ash begins to fall to the earth, the dark lord will take his rightful place, and the whole world will be rebuilt in chaos." Elaina recited. "Ash is beginning to fall, the sky has turned red, and the earth has begun to break apart. We are running out of time.""Did Ezra give you any advice on what to do?" Chase asked Elaina as his face began to turn pale."We must defeat Rathial." Elaina responded as if it was the simplest thing
