Ember's POV.
Alpha Thane’s words shattered me further as I watched him walk out of the room with Zara, his late brother's wife. I guess she had still been right. As it stood, the only thought I had was to end it. I wanted to ask him to reject me. I would have asked right away, but recalling my son's situation, I stormed out of the room. “Loak!” I panted as I entered the pack doctor's hall. I looked around, searching for Caleb, but I couldn't find him. Instead, the uncomfortable stares from the doctors made me flinch. I was about to turn around to leave when one of the nurses walked up to me. “Are you here for Dr. Caleb?” she asked with a concerned tone. “Yes, I need to see him. Please, where is he?” I asked, my voice panicked. “He's in the first room on your left,” she informed me. With a brief bow, I thanked her and raced toward the room. Although I wasn’t fine, I pushed myself. I had lost one child; I couldn’t lose another. Arriving at the door, I didn’t hesitate to push it open. The sight of my son lying unconscious on the bed, covered with wolf furs, made me extremely sad. “Ember… you’re here,” Caleb said, shocked to see me. “How… how is he?” I sniffled, wiping my tears as I walked closer to the bed. “He’s stable now, Ember, but we could have lost him if we hadn’t started treatment immediately. You were supposed to be here to help him, too. He kept calling for you,” Caleb said, a tinge of anger in his tone. I couldn’t speak because he was right. I should have reached Loak and been there for him, but how could I when Alpha Thane held me back? Caleb walked closer to me and, reaching for my shoulder, caught my attention. “Are you okay, Ember? You don’t look okay. Come on, tell me what’s happening. Did you tell Alpha Thane the truth about your past?” “Tell him?” I scoffed, darting my gaze back to my son. “Alpha Thane doesn’t deserve to know me, Caleb, and as it stands, I’m not prepared to tell him.” “You’re not happy. What happened? And this time, the truth,” Caleb urged as he sat down closer to me. “What if I told you that I lost my baby giving blood to Zara?” I said, tears beginning to trickle down my cheeks again. “What?” Caleb exclaimed in shock. “After you called, I was going to rush to the pack's clinic, but Alpha Thane dragged me into Zara’s room, asking me to give her my wolf blood. I lost my baby in the process, and that’s why I couldn’t be here on time, Caleb,” I explained in full detail, Caleb already growing furious. “He shouldn’t have done that, and I am going to teach him a lesson.” Caleb stood up from the chair and was going to storm out of the room, but I rushed to him, grabbing his hand. “Please don’t,” I begged softly. “Are you still trying to protect that monster? He was mean to you, Ember, but you loved him. I can take all of that, but not this,” Caleb declared, but I still couldn’t let him go. “There’s no way I would protect him, Caleb. Just that you could be killed, and who would take care of my son? Who would be my friend?” I smiled painfully as I tried to convince him. Luckily, he listened and walked back to the chair. “I promise to handle all of this, Caleb, and I know just what to do. Although it might hurt a lot, it’s best if I do it.” “And what’s that? What plans do you have?” Caleb questioned with confusion. “Take care of Loak, okay? I promise to return soon.” Without another word to Caleb, I turned on my heels and headed straight for the pack house. As I headed back home, Thane’s harsh words resonated through my mind. I tried to shove them aside, but it only intensified the rage I felt. Reaching for the door handle, I yanked it open. The second I got into the living room, I saw Alpha Thane pacing around. Was he worried about me? I doubted it because he had clearly stated he didn’t care. He turned to me when he noticed I had returned. “Why are you coming back this late? Did you run off to some hot guy to sleep with after losing the Alpha’s heir?” He sounded so furious, but I didn’t think much of it because he definitely wouldn’t. I scoffed at his words. “Why ask? Do you suddenly care about me? Do you feel guilty now? Do you want me now?” Deep down, I wanted him to admit that he did. I wanted him to embrace me and apologize for it all, but he didn’t. “Guilty? Care? That’s never going to happen… It’s not like I ever wanted you from the start anyway!” he declared vehemently, his words dragging me down, but I knew it was time. It would hurt; it always did, but it was best if I ended this crazy charade called a Union, called marriage. A loveless marriage. I took a step closer, my eyes staring deeply into his. “If you claim you don’t want to be with me, why don’t you act like an Alpha and reject me?” He froze at the sound of my words. “What?” he forcefully exclaimed. I bet he never saw that coming. “You heard me right, Alpha Thane… Reject me!” I snarled through my gritted teeth. He laughed loudly, his fingers running through his hair. Why did he hesitate when he didn’t want me? I pondered briefly before he continued. “You want rejection? Fine! I’ll give it to you!” His pride spoke as he leaned closer to me. He didn't even apologise for my baby. “I, Alpha Thane Grey, Alpha of the Claw Bane pack, reject you, Ember Stone, as my Luna and Wolf Bride!” The second he declared it, I felt a sharp sting in my heart. Luckily, we weren’t bound by the mate bond, so the sting would go away sooner or later. With tears in my eyes and pain glistening in them, I declared, “I, Ember Stone, Omega of the Scar Moon Pack and current Ex-Luna of the Claw Bane Pack, accept your rejection!” I could see his brows furrow, but he wouldn’t admit that he went through pain. Well, I didn’t care anymore. “It’s for the best… Thank you, Alpha Thane… I’ll leave as you always wanted.” Wriggling out of his presence, I was going to leave the pack house, but his next words halted me in my tracks. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, Ember. We know you can’t do without me!” he blurted out with pride, making me smirk. With my head turned halfway to look at him, I assured, “Watch me, Thane!”Ember's POV "You can't live without me, Ember!" Alpha Thane declared, his voice echoing in the cold, empty space between us. I clenched my fists, my heart racing in my chest, but I wouldn’t let him see me weak again. I met his eyes, and in a voice steadier than I felt, I shot back, "Watch me." Without waiting for his response, I turned and stormed out of the house. My footsteps were loud on the wooden floors, but all I could hear was my heartbeat pounding in my ears. I had just made the man I thought I loved—the man I’d given everything to—reject me. The pain should have been unbearable, but right now, I felt nothing but anger. As I slammed the door behind me, the cool night air hit my face. I walked quickly, trying to outrun my thoughts, but they followed me like shadows. I hate him. I hate him, I told myself. I had to hate him now. But deep down, something ached. Thane wasn’t just my Alpha. He had been my husband, my partner, my everything. But now, I guess that was over. That
Ember's POV I woke up early the next morning, my body heavy with everything that lay ahead. The soft rays of dawn peeked through the window as I got dressed, trying to focus on what needed to be done. I didn’t want to think about the past or the future—just the next step. Before I could leave, I found Caleb waiting outside, right by the doorstep. He stood there, arms crossed, but his face was warm. “Were you going to leave without saying goodbye?” His left brow arched as he questioned. I felt tense for a second, unsure of what to say. I didn't want to wake him because I was pretty sure he’d try to stop me from leaving the Claw Bane pack. “I'm sorry, Caleb, but…” my grip around the strap of my bag tightened. “But you can't stop me from leaving. This is a choice I have made… I won’t be able to pay for Loak's treatment if I stay behind.” I tried explaining, worry lacing my tone. I was expecting Caleb to send me back inside, but he shook his head, taking a step closer to me. “The las
Ember's POV The night air was thick with tension. I could feel it creeping into my bones, making my inner wolf, Lily, stir uneasily. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silver glow over the Pack's grounds as I followed Mrs. Evelyn toward the Pack house. My grip on the strap of my bag tightened, my fingers growing clammy as the reality of what was about to happen set in. The Mating Ritual. My heart pounded against my ribs, a frantic, uneven beat. Lily’s anxiety was seeping into me, her restlessness evident. I could feel her pacing in the back of my mind, growling softly, urging me to be on guard. The whole situation felt wrong, like I was walking into something I wasn’t prepared for. "You'll be fine," Mrs. Evelyn’s voice was calm as she spoke to me, but it did little to ease the storm brewing inside me. I forced a tight smile. “Yeah, I hope so.” But inside, my thoughts raced. Why did I even agree to come to this? When we reached the Pack house, the crowd was already seated
Ember's POV I stood frozen for a moment, staring at Rowan, now Alpha. My heart raced, and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. This wasn’t supposed to happen. I couldn’t be his mate. I wouldn't be. After everything I’d been through, I couldn’t be tied to someone like him. Someone I still had feelings for but wished to stay away from. Just then, his uncle's warning slammed through my mind again, and this time, it was best I broke the ties. I couldn't put myself or my foster parents at risk. I needed to reject the bond now. I swallowed hard, gathering my courage, and raised my voice. “I, Ember Stone, Omega of the Scar Moon pack, reject you, Alpha Rowan, as my mate, and—” Before I could finish, his furious voice cut through the air, making me flinch. “No!” His eyes darkened as he stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. “I, Alpha Rowan, accept you as my mate, and this decree is irrevocable.” His words stung, and my mind raced to fight back, to reject him again. But just as I opened my
Ember's POV Rowan's teeth sank into the soft flesh of my neck, and I gasped, the sting of his mark sending shockwaves through my body. As he pulled back, I saw his eyes—once warm, now filled with nothing but fury. His lips, still stained with the taste of my skin, curled into a snarl. That rage… I could feel it deep in my bones. And beneath it, something darker—the cold, simmering desire for revenge. I trembled beneath his gaze, my body betraying the fear I tried to swallow down. My voice came out small, almost breaking. “Why, Rowan? Why did you accept me… even after I left?” My eyes were moist, my throat tight with guilt. I had walked away from him and the Scar Moon pack seven years ago, thinking I could escape. But standing before him now, I could see just how foolish I’d been. His snarl was like a whip, and before I could brace myself, his arms wrapped around my waist, yanking me closer. The heat of his breath brushed my ear as he leaned in. “You betrayed me, Ember,” he whisp
Ember’s POV The soft glow of early morning sunlight crept through the thin curtains of my room, gently pulling me from the haze of sleep. I rolled over, sighing into the pillow, the events of last night flashing in and out of my dreams. How had I not known for so long that Rowan was my mate? And now… I didn’t even know what to expect. It felt like my entire life had turned upside down, especially with the pack watching me closely as their Alpha's mate. I knew there was more to come, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready for it and that's why I was eager to get rejected by him but he wouldn't do that. I guess it was just time I accepted my fate. Maybe this was the moon Goddess way of punishing me for the past. As I was lost in thoughts, a sudden knock on the door startled me, jolting me from the last remnants of sleep. For a moment, I was disoriented, my heart thudding in my chest. Who could that be so early? I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, sat up, and called out, “Come in.” The
Ember's POV. I could barely keep the tray from slipping through my fingers as they trembled uncontrollably. Each step I took toward the doors of Alpha Rowan’s room felt heavier, like walking against a powerful storm. My heart pounded in my chest, louder and louder, as if warning me of what was to come. I swallowed hard, my dry throat burning with every breath I took. The second the doors were pushed open, I gulped at his sight. Alpha Rowan’s eyes were immediately on me, as sharp and cold as ice. I froze for a second, gripping the tray tightly to steady my hands. His gaze held me captive, and I could feel the intensity of his emotions without him uttering a single word. The discomfort in the room was suffocating too. I moved forward, the clatter of the plates on the tray betraying my fear. My palms were damp with sweat, making it harder to keep a firm hold, but I couldn’t stop now. I had to keep going. I had to serve him, even if it killed me inside. This was my punishment
Ember's POV It was day two in the Scar Moon pack, and though the title of Alpha Rowan's mate should have filled me with a sense of pride, it brought nothing but emptiness and dread. I wasn't a mate in the way anyone would imagine; not cherished, not loved. I was nothing more than a servant, a tool in his cruel game. The bed I slept in last night felt cold, and the silence in the Alpha's room was louder than any noise. I barely slept. But I knew one thing; showing any weakness would only make things worse. I woke up before dawn, long before any of the other maids could barge into the room to drag me out of bed. I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of thinking I couldn’t handle my new role. I dressed quickly in the plain brown servant clothes they gave me, a far cry from the life I used to know. The fabric was coarse against my skin, and I felt like a prisoner every time I touched it. I swallowed the lump in my throat, squared my shoulders, and headed straight for the kitche
Rowan's POV. I burst into the room, my heart pounding in my chest like a drum. The scent of blood and sweat filled the air, but it was her scent—soft and familiar—that made my wolf, Crawls, roar in my mind. There she was, Ember, lying on the cold floor like a broken doll. Her fiery red hair was tangled, her face pale, and her body still. For a moment, I froze.“Ember,” I whispered, my voice trembling. My knees hit the floor beside her, and I gently scooped her up into my arms. She was far too light, her frame frail, and the warmth I always associated with her was gone. Crawls howled again, desperate and full of rage, but I forced him back. Now wasn’t the time to lose control.“I’ve got you,” I murmured, pressing her close to my chest. “I’ll keep you safe now. I swear it.”Without wasting another second, I rushed out of the room, my boots echoing against the hardwood floors. The house was eerily quiet, the signs of battle evident in the shattered windows and overturned furniture.
Rowan's POVStaring at Loak, who stood before me, my hands holding his shoulders, I tried to piece it all together. His uncanny resemblance to me, his ability to calm me down even after raging. His scent. He was definitely of Alpha blood. Could he be my son? I pondered deeply, but just as I was still trying to understand it all, the door to the room pushed open, and Beta Nathan stormed in.It seemed more like they hadn’t left the pack yet.“Alpha Rowan, we’ve got news,” he declared the second he walked in, making me stand to my feet and turn to him. There was no doubt that I would solve the situation between Loak and me later. Right now, Ember mattered the most.“Speak up!” I commanded with a deep, grumpy voice, and immediately, he began to speak.“Our spies in the Claw Bane pack just sent a message to us that Luna Ember is in the Claw Bane pack. Alpha Thane took her that night!”The second Beta Nathan let out those words, I felt an intense sense of rage and fury course through my vei
Rowan's POV“What do you mean you can't find her? Is she some ghost now who can just disappear without a trace?” I shouted as I struck my tightened fist on the table before me.After the misunderstanding between Ember, my Luna, and me, she left the pack house. I was going to chase after her, but Beta Nathan asked me to stay back. He pleaded with me to stay back. Now, I don't know where she is.I have no idea where she ran off to. It's been close to three days, and my mate hasn't returned to the pack house. So where the fuck is she?“I’m so sorry, Alpha Rowan, but we've searched the entire Scar Moon pack for her and are unable to find her. I don’t know, but maybe she left just like seven years ago.”The second he let such bitter words leave his lips, I stormed to my feet in anger. “Enough, Beta Nathan!” I could see him take a step backward, recoiling away from me.“She loves me! Only me! She wouldn't dare leave the pack like before. Don’t say what you aren’t sure of!” I warned him ster
Ember's POVA throbbing ache in my head welcomed me back to reality. The stinging light pierced into the dark room through the cracks on the wall. Don’t get me started on the cold that engulfed me instantly.“Where am I?” I struggled to speak, my eyes squinting as I held my head, trying to stop the pain that coursed through my veins.I wasn’t expecting my morning to be this way—finding myself on the ground and looking all pale. Just as I was trying to understand what was happening, I recalled it. I recalled last night.I had seen Alpha Rowan with a lady—a half-naked lady at that. He was on her. The Rowan I knew wouldn’t dare to cheat on me, but because of my assumptions, I believed it and fled from the pack house without realizing it was a plot to get me where they wanted me.Uncle Baron had taken me in and drugged me. And the last voice I heard was that of Thane. Does it mean Alpha Thane was part of this plot? He carried me last night, which meant just one thing… “I am in the Claw Ba
Zara's POVI kept hearing weird sounds—disturbing ones at that—as I lay in my room. I had been unable to rest all day, and just as I was about to do so, this happened. With a frustrated groan leaving my lips, I sat up on the bed, rubbing my eyes gently to check what time it was. It was clearly midnight, so why was I still hearing whispers from outside my room?It seemed like something fishy was going on, and whoever was responsible didn’t want anyone to know about it.“Who could that be?” I pondered briefly before I stood up from my bed and walked out of the room.My eyes scanned the area, as vigilant as always. In case the pack house was being robbed, I definitely shouldn’t let myself fall into danger immediately.Just as I was trying to understand what was going on, I couldn’t help but halt abruptly in my tracks at the sudden sight of a door partly creaked open by my right side. With my brows furrowing, I turned on my heels and headed closer to the door. Peeking through the tiny ope
Ember's POVI wasn't sure what Beta Nathan was trying to do, but one thing I knew was that I didn’t, and couldn’t, fall for it.I ignored him and headed straight toward the room. I was tired of standing out in the cold. I needed to rest. I had been through so much already, and I was certain that standing there and listening to him speak for another second could make me collapse. He tried to call out and stop me, but I didn’t—I couldn’t stop. After what felt like an eternity, I finally arrived at the door to the room. For some reason, I kept hearing voices inside the room. It couldn’t be Beta Nathan because I had just been with him, and from the tone of the voice, it sounded more like a female voice, which made my brows furrow immediately.“What’s happening? Why is there a female in the Alpha's room?” I questioned, my curiosity piqued as I reached for the door handle.I knew that Rowan rarely let the maids come into his room after I began staying with him. Without another thought, I pu
Rowan's POVOne week later*It's been a week, a wonderful week since Ember healed up from being poisoned by wolfsbane. She was poisoned by that demon called Zara, who pretends to be a cool and kind lady in front of Thane. She's just using him.Well, that's not the point. The point is that the second Ember walks through those doors, I won't hesitate to embrace her, kiss her, and tell her how much I have always loved her, despite being rude and harsh to her. That was never my intention. I just wanted her to see how much leaving me hurt—leaving me all alone after taking some money from my uncle. But right now, I don't care about any of that, as it might all just be lies.As I stared at myself in the mirror, a bright smile curling across my lips, I couldn't help but think about what she'd say when she walks in.I was preparing for her alone. I wanted her to see me as a good Alpha she could trust, someone she could open up to, and not as a monster. I didn't want to be a monster anymore.Tu
Uncle Baron's POV.“High Lord Baron, are you certain that Scott's plans will work?” Ricky asked as he drove the car.We were heading back to the pack house so I could rest and also act like nothing happened—like we hadn't left the pack house.I turned my gaze to look outside the car. I knew Scott was still young, but that didn't mean he wasn't thinking or that he was useless.“What will be will be, Ricky. So long as you want it, it'll happen. I don't care about the plans Scott has. I care about the outcome, and we have to make it happen,” I said in a low grunt, my eyes not turning back to look at him.I was sure he had kept staring at me through the rearview mirror, but I still didn't give him a glance from where I sat.Just as we were still heading back to the pack house, the sudden ringing of his phone echoed inside the car, pulling his attention to it.I didn't care. I didn't want to, but the minute he mentioned Alpha Thane, I felt my hairs stand. There was no doubt that the plans
Uncle Baron's POVJust as I stood by the window, my grip around the glass cup I held in my hand tightened, a deep frown etched across my face as I looked outside.Rowan dared to confront me because of that bitch. That omega, whom I had warned to stay away from the Scar Moon pack. We had an agreement—she was expected never to show up, but she did, and right now, she was ruining my plans for me. My plans to take over the Scar Moon pack. And whoever threatens to destroy what I have tried to build for so long—I'm sorry, but I can't let them live.“She has to go.” My grip tightened even more until I crushed the glass cup, letting the pieces pierce through my skin, just to show how furious I was.I wasn't expecting to see her in the Scar Moon pack.Just as I was still reeling in anger and rage, a sudden knock came at my door, bringing me back to reality for a split second.“Who?” My deep voice echoed in the room as I asked.“It's Gamma Ricky, Sir,” the voice came in, sharp and abrupt.“Come
