ISABELLA’S POV

“He isn't so bad, Mireille.” I defended and watched her stop peeling the oranges. After the swim that night, I had turned up sick due to the cold, but somehow it was the best memory I had, yet. I couldn't remember the last time I had that much fun. Mireille, however, stayed up all night to ensure I lived.

“Well, I was scared you were going to die from the cold. Did he force you to swim?” She arched her brow.

“No, I wanted to. I wanted to take the dive.” I assured, and she sighed before walking over and settling on the spare seat, in front of me. We were currently in my office.

“You almost died months ago, Isa. You know everything he made you go through.” There was concern in her tone.

“And he is trying to make up for it.” I reminded and inhaled deeply. “I’m not saying he is a saint. I’m just saying he is trying to change, Mireille. He is different now. I think.”

Mireille threw her arms in the air. She was clearly shocked. “You think? Thoughts are not something you mak

THIRD PERSON’S POV“I can't reach her. Enzo can't, too. She bailed out on us and….” Mireille dragged in a deep breath, her voice shaken. “It has been over an hour, Alaric. Isabella is never this silent.” She was pacing up and down now, fear gripping her. She couldn't imagine something happening to Isabella. It would only make her lose her mind. Isabella was her only friend, her sister, and the person she loved the most. She feared that the same person who killed her staffs must have taken her since the policemen were yet to find him. They claimed they were doing all they could but she clearly knew it wasn't enough.Alaric ran his fingers through his hair. He had just finished a meeting, and managed to close a deal worth millions when Enzo had called.“You weren't supposed to let her out of your sight!” Alaric yelled and threw a punch into the wall. “She could be hurt. She could be anywhere.” And that was why he had hired Enzo. Because he feared that she might go ghost on him someday.

THIRD PERSON’S POVShe was still holding Alaric’s arm tightly, and now he laid in bed beside her. If this was what it took to make her sleep well then he was ready to offer his night. His heart was beating so fast. He was so nervous and his body shook with emotions, and passion. His breathing had gotten unstable. Being so close to her melted his brain into jelly paste. As his eyes trailed her hair that now settled on the bed and few strands were on my cloth, he couldn't help but feel the urge to cuddle her, feel her warmth and know what she smelled like.He could hear the sound of the clock and that of his own heartbeat. He heard her sigh again then she rolled over, her breath landing on his face and his breath seized. Her lips were full and her lipgloss smeared. Her nose was pretty, and it had a lipstain on it. She seemed to be sleeping peacefully now and it made him wonder what bad dream she had. With his trembling thumb, he wiped it gently and her eyes shot open causing him to fre

His eyes burning with rage. “He put his finger on you, Isa. On my wife.” He seethed.“Alaric, I….”He ran his other palm through his hair. “I don’t know if this is a means of you throwing a tantrum or getting me to let you go. But that won’t happen, never. You should be glad I didn’t break his bones, but the next man that as well as breath close to you, will be the last one you see.” My heart skipped a beat. He sounded so serious. My lips parted in shock, but then I snatched my hand away, while fear scrubbed my insides clean.“I should never have let you talk me into breakfast. I am leaving, ex-husband.” I said sternly and got up, proceeding to walk away before he pulled me back.“I am not your ex-husband.” His voice was a deep hoarse of emotion. I swallowed the last of my guts. Being so close to him was doing something to me. The

ISABELLA’S POVIt had been close to thirty minutes since we almost had sex. I was less sore now, but somehow, I felt this tiny loneliness deep down. I snuggled against the pillow, and for a second, it didn’t seem like I had left months ago. My scent was still everywhere. The auction crossed my mind, and I pulled out my phone from my bag on the far side of the bed. I had multiple messages and calls. Some were from Mireille and Enzo, and they were from before I got here. My secretary’s own, I typed a detailed order before closing it and placing my phone on the wooden drawer. The thought that I had just two auctions to go crossed my mind, and I felt a little unsettled at the thought that I was leaving now that everything seemed too good to be true. It wasn’t entirely up to me. I had work to do in Florida. I had a dream. A career. I had Mireille. Mireille had her man, and aside from the fact that I loved it there, this town held a long trail of emotions. There was a soft knock on the doo

Did he know she was coming? Was that why he left me here?“How did you get in?” I questioned. She threw her bag on the floor and stormed over to me.“I should be asking you that. I am in my son’s house.” Her nose was flared with her arms crossed over her chest.I dragged in some air because I just wasn't ready for the drama.“Alaric isn't home. You can come back when he does. I was busy before you came.” I informed and turned around to leave before she grabbed my arm, digging her nails in.“You don’t belong here. You shouldn't be here. He was doing so fine until you magically showed up again.” Her tone was harsh and it conveyed her hatred. The level of depicit she had for me was alarming because I never really offended her.I tried freeing my hand but she only dug her nails in the more. Pain surge throu

ALARIC’S POV“Good morning, Liam. How do you do today?” I let out delightfully and watched him scrutinise me. “Fine, sir.” He responded, his voice quivering, and I laughed hard, my palm on his shoulder. Liam was one of my staff members on the first floor, a brilliant one at that, and this was the first time we had a conversation.“Oh, Liam!” However, he didn't say a word as he stiffened and quickly stepped out of the elevator on the second floor. This was the third person reacting this way today, and I seriously couldn’t understand why.Was it that they feared me? Or was it something I said?I didn't get to think about it for long because soon, Isabella crossed my mind again. She was lying in her bed, hair down, and with no undies on. My cheeks hurt from how giddy I was to know my wife was finally home. We were finally working something out.I could feel excitement bubble through me, giving me renewed energy. The door dinged open on the third floor, and I dragged in some fresh air a

THIRD PERSON’S POV“Hi,” Isabella said, her arms crossed under her breasts. Her heart was racing now. She had spent the last few hours crying and cursing her ill-love life. At one point, she thought he wouldn't come looking for her.“You left.” Alaric’s heart was pounding, yet he felt relieved she didn't ghost him. The last time she walked out on him, she was gone for months. He doubted that he could survive another. “I’m sorry, I didn't know she was coming. Did she say something?” He stretched his hand to check her face, but she stepped to the side.“Leave, Alaric. You shouldn't be here.” She turned around, giving him space. Her eyes were wet with tears again. Fuck, she had thought she could face him. She pinned her lips together to stop herself from breaking down. “Isabella.” He was sacred. So afraid to lose her. This was one thing he had always feared. Vulnerability. But now he was addicted to her. She was his medicine, and to hell if he died taking. “Go home, Alaric. Go to your

I caught him glance at Mireille, standing outside the door, before getting into the car.He put on the music box, and a slow jam played before kicking off the engine. “Are you ready?” he asked, and I nodded. But deep down, she knew the time was ticking, and she might never be prepared to if she didn't do it now. She had searched through all the rows of dresses in the third shop today but found nothing that fit. Given that Alaric was having his suit checked out wherever he was, she had no one to ask. They had both agreed not to see one another’s outfits before the right time. She had no friends. No one to make this day more special than it was. She would have asked Enzo, but he was a man. She was disgruntled as she threw the last piece on the sofa before sinking into it, her face in her palms. Tears stung her eyelids. ISABELLA’S POVThe drive back home was strangely relaxing, possibly because of my stress. Did I find this fun? Yes. Would I repeat it? No.Alaric’s face also showed fatigue, and all I wanted was to go home to a hot meal and a warm bath.Suddenly, I heard our car screech as a car swerved right in front of us, causing Alaric and me to bounce forward. A black Benz car was now sitting in front of us, unmoving. The owner didn't seem bothered enough to get down. I could feel my heart pounding so fast as the memory of the night I had lost my baby flashed through my mind.“Are you hurt?” Alaric asked, searching my face and body, and I shook my head in response.I watched him grit his teeth before storming out of the car to knock on the window. I don’t know what transfixed, but he stood like that for about a minute or two, and by the time he got back into the car, his expression had changed, and he wasn't saying anything. He drove around the car, whose tinted glasses were wound up, so I could

ISABELLA’S POVI strode around the house, taking in every beautiful art lined up the hallway. Every stroke was detailed; I hummed as a smile graced my lips. We had a few unpacking tasks, and Alaric had left for work, so I had just a few sightseeing tasks before making a dish for us. It would feel so good to cook in this exquisite kitchen. I followed the path that led to the room, visiting each. There were ten rooms, but one was the biggest, which I presumed to be the Main bedroom. Living in a huge house gave me a sense of freedom. My phone vibrated against my jeans pocket, and I pulled it out to stare at the Doctor’s number. The same man who had saved my life the day I got into that accident and lost my baby.Weird how he didn't judge me when I informed him I was now back with Alaric after he noticed the ring on my finger.“If it makes you happy, child.” He had said.I knew he had to be the right one to tell me what drug it was. Luckily, Alaric had an important business to attend to,

Two logistics trunks were outside with ten workers waiting, but I knew I had to pick out my stuff myself. I wouldn't want to lose anything or take with me something I didn't find valuable. I knew I had just a few things here due to the constant sleepovers.I was rummaging through the bathroom, packing my hair products when one of them fell and rolled to a corner. I let out a sigh, bent to take it, and instantly saw the slightly open drawer. Something blue was sitting in it. Out of curiosity, I pulled it open to see a nylon of blue pills. My heart skipped a beat. Was Alaric doing drugs? My hand shook out of fear at realising how that could change everything. I knew I had to find out.“Babe, are you done?” I heard him say. I didn't hear him walk in and quickly put it behind my back. My eyes widened as I made eye contact with him. “You good?” I let out a dry laugh. “Definitely. I’m almost do

ALARIC’S POVWhen I had informed her of us going skating, her eyes lit up in delight. But now that we were standing here with skates strapped beneath our feet, I was starting to rethink that decision. Even with the knee pads, ankle pads and helmets, my heart was still pounding so fast. I have never skated, and the multiple online videos I watched all night did nothing to help.“Are you ready?” I asked, a part of me hoping she would chicken out and insist on leaving so I wouldn't be the sacred one. But instead, she nodded.I watched her get onto the ice, pulling me with her, and my heart started to race. Never had it occurred to me that I could be scared of ice. It's just ice. I have gone through so much more, so something like this shouldn't break me.A bead of sweat broke behind my neck. As much as I wanted to tell her how I felt, she was smiling brightly and without worries. I didn't want to ruin that. I watched her move one foot, then another gently, and I followed suit, but my

She was dressed in a red gown that clung to her white smooth skin like a second flesh. Her waist was snatched, and the dress stopped right above her kneecap. I drooled over her cleavage, deep, weak in the knee. She had a white pearl necklace on alongside white heels. Her legs were put together and slightly bent to the side before a chair leg. She looked so sophisticated. Her brown hair was beautifully rolled up, with none falling below her neck. She had slight makeup on, with her lips painted red.I was confused between going to meet her there and causing a diversion from the auction or signalling her to come over. But the Isa I knew was too stubborn to come over, so I went instead.“We need to talk,” I whispered, watching her give me a death stare. “Leave, Alaric. I’m busy.” She muttered between clenched teeth, then looked away.“If you could just give me a moment. Yo
