Chapter 62

My heart ached.

I jolted out of bed, hurrying towards the door, but halted my steps abruptly when I heard the faint sound of a door slamming shut.

A painful scoff escaped my lips. “He is sleeping in another room?”

I returned to bed, my aching heart replaced with anger.

A frown wrinkled my brows, a mix of anger and worry swirled inside but ultimately, exhaustion crept in, lulling me to bed.

THE NEXT MORNING

My alarm blared noisily startling me awake.

I groaned as my hands tapered around, searching for the device so I can slam it into the wall.

At the same time, the door creaked open. I perceived him before I saw him.

His fragrance filled the room. That intoxicating scent of oud and flowers.

I blinked my eyes open, involuntarily looking for him.

Our gazes locked, my heart racing. The room tapered with tension, drowning out my thoughts. I couldn’t seem to find the words to say I’m sorry.

Neither did he.

But then again, he wasn’t on the wrong this time.
