Did he think a mere beastly transformation could scare me into obedience? What a fucking joke.

In the Vaughn household, I’d seen worse monsters. In fact, I was raised by one, so his true form did nothing to change my earlier stance. If he liked, he could sprout two extra head and become a Cerberus, I’d never give up Scarlett even if it meant fighting him to the death.

“You have a face as wretched and as ugly as your soul, suits you,” I commented in a mocking tone, showing him that I wasn't the type to be rattled by fear.

His disgusting face twisted in anger at first, then it relaxed as though something had just dawned on him. It sort of pissed me off that I wasn't able to rile him up as much as I wanted to.

“I wear both my soul and face with pride like the king that I am,” he boasted, a distorted smile playing on his face, “It’s too bad you won’t be alive to watch me rule since you've foolishly decided to be on the wrong side.”
