I’d just gotten home from work but I was being put to work afresh by my grumpy father who was pacing the room.

“Are you done, Alex?” He asked me for the fifteenth time, I was keeping count.

“No, father,” I answered in a clipped tone before flipping the next page of the property acquisition document before me.

Apparently, there was a new investment opportunity that tons of other Alphas were interested in but only a select few were granted the first chance to do so, but if they didn't sign the contract early enough, their slots would be given to others in the waiting list.

“I’m not pleased with Logan’s behavior this evening,” he hissed, reminding me again that I was his second and least preferred option for the job, “He’s more familiar with the construction line of business but he hasn't picked my calls, nor has he had the decency to respond with a text explaining why.”

I had no desire to chime in so I acted like I was too engrossed in reading the contract to hear him.
