47. The Royal Wedding 1

She landed at her grandmother's chamber when she got to the palace, and sank into the couch.

“What is the matter, Mirabel?” Phoebe asked with trepidation, when she saw the deep despondency in her eyes.

“Grandma, I'm losing my mind. Alfred fixed our wedding date for tomorrow. What do I do?”

Grandma Phoebe became euphoric at once, and responded, “Wow! I have prayed for this moment. Congratulations.”

Mirabel was not surprised at her reaction, but she gave her a questioning look. Then, her grandmother continued, “Go to your chamber, and do nothing but take a beauty rest. Leave the planning for us.”

“Grandma, do you consent that I should marry a stranger?”

“Yes. He is no more a stranger to me. Tell me, do you wish to let him go?”

Mirabel showed dread as though she had lost him already, and shook her head in disapproval, “No, grandma. I don't wish to let him go.”

“Neither do I nor any member of our family.”
