Elena's point of view.

I stand in the closet, staring at my collection of new clothes, trying to decide what to wear for dinner with Alexa. Vanda said she’d be here by late afternoon, and now it’s past five. It’s probably time to get ready.

Elizabeth and Ben are in the kitchen working on dinner together. Elizabeth had already finished preparing a guest room for Alexa and offered to help cook so I wouldn’t have to. Since Alexa isn’t here yet, I’d offered to assist, but Ben insisted they had it all under control.

I pull out a knee-length dress, but just as quickly, I hang it back up. A dress feels too formal—Alexa is technically family. Instead, I choose a black long-sleeve top I really like and pair it with wide-leg pants. After I change and fix my hair, I head downstairs to check on Ben and Elizabeth in the kitchen.

“I thought you were getting ready,” Ben says as soon as I walk in.

“I did. I’ve run out of things to do now,” I reply, leaning against the counter while Elizabeth cleans v

Elena's point of view.Vanda’s sister, Alexa, appears at the bottom of the staircase, her footsteps light as she steps into the dining room. She smiles brightly. “There you both are. What’s for dinner?”“Steak, mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetables,” I reply, recalling the meal Elizabeth had been preparing earlier. “It all looked amazing.”Alexa approaches the table and pulls out the chair directly across from mine. “Let’s sit.”“Oh, sure.” I follow her lead, but Vanda is slower to join us. He takes his time settling into his usual spot at the head of the table.Elizabeth returns with a wine bottle, pouring into our empty glasses before Vanda asks, “Bring me the scotch when you get a chance.”Alexa glances at me over the rim of her wineglass. “I hope you manage to soften him up,” she says with a teasing tone. “Our mother always said a strong Luna brings balance to her mate, and Vanda’s always been a little too distant.”I glance at him, but his focus remains fixed on some invisible

  • ELDER'S BLOOD    War is coming.

Elena's point of view.As expected, Vanda is gone before I even wake up. I linger in bed a little longer than usual since today will be a busy one spent entertaining Alexa. Knowing I won’t have much personal time later, I savor these quiet moments. Once I’m ready for the day, I head downstairs to look for Alexa and find her seated at the dining table, sipping coffee and reading from a small, worn book with a white cover. Her conversation with Ben plays on repeat in my head, but I enter the room as if I never heard it. She looks up and closes the book as I approach.“I thought I heard you coming,” she says with a small, tight smile, drawing her coffee mug closer. “Ignore my pajamas.”“What are you reading?” I ask.“Oh, just some book about conception that my mate’s mother gave me,” she replies, taking a sip of coffee. “It’s a bit outdated and very spiritual, but I like the little illustrations.”I joke, “I’m sure my mother has the same one.”She eyes me with amusement. “Look at you, al

Elena's point of view. The news of an impending war between the packs seemed to be known by everyone but me."Is everything alright?" Alexa's voice rang out, pulling me from my thoughts.I forced a bright tone as I glanced back at her. "Yeah, everything's fine."“Elena—” Vanda started, but I cut him off quickly. “We’ll talk later, I guess. Alexa and I are heading around the pack for a while.”He remained where he was, watching as I walked away to rejoin Alexa.“So, how long are you staying?” Charles asked her.“Just until tomorrow,” Alexa replied with a small smile. “It’s a short trip, but Vanda tells me he and Elena are planning to visit Gold soon.”I joined in their conversation. “I’m ready when you are.”“Oh, that was fast,” Alexa commented with a mix of sadness and contentment. Turning back to Charles, she added, “It was so good to see you. Please give Emma my best wishes with the new baby.”“Good luck with Alpha Gold,” Charles said with a chuckle.Alexa sighed dramatically. “Yeah

Elena's point of view.As Elizabeth disappears with the man, stepping outside where the glowing moon starts to dominate the blackened sky, I remain inside, looking at the array of jewelry before me."This is all for me to wear?" I ask, my voice tentative as I glance at the gleaming adornments.Vanda approaches, carrying the jewelry carefully. With one hand, he begins separating the pieces and hands me a heavy moonstone necklace, its multiple pendants dangling in a delicate row. I secure it around my neck, feeling its cool weight against my skin.Next, he gives me two bracelets, one for each wrist. “You look beautiful,” he murmurs, his voice low but sincere.A blush rises to my cheeks, and I try to suppress it. "I thought you might have changed your mind or gotten too busy for the ceremony. You still want to do this, don’t you?"“I do,” he replies with quiet conviction, holding up the final piece—a headpiece adorned with fine, shimmering chains and moonstone droplets. Its intricate met

Elena's point of view. With my feet damp from the grass and my heart racing, I rush into the kitchen. "Elizabeth?"She and Ben are sitting at the table with a mug in front of each of them. Ben has a small plate of cookies, but he sets the one in his hand down when he notices me, breathless and dripping moon water."Unbutton me," I demand, turning my back to them. "Hurry."Elizabeth rises immediately, her chair screeching against the floor. "Is everything alright?" she asks, starting with the shawl."I... I think so," I stammer.I feel her tugging at my dress, unfastening each of the tiny buttons as quickly as she can."You finished the ceremony, didn't you?" Ben asks, his tone curious."We did. He told me to go upstairs."Ben's eyes widen slightly. "Oh?"I twist my hands nervously, each second stretching into an eternity. Elizabeth is working quickly, but she starts to struggle."Where is he?" I ask anxiously."I think he went to the study. Maybe for a drink—I’m not sure," she replies

  • ELDER'S BLOOD    Wrong Call

Elena's point of view.I stare out the kitchen window, lost in thought, watching the wolves patrolling the property as they’ve done every night for the past week. Their rhythmic pacing does little to settle the unease in my chest.“Well,” Ben says from his spot at the counter, “maybe something came up. Could’ve been an emergency. If there was blood on his wolf, he must’ve been handling something serious.”“Has there been an emergency every other night too?” I snap, turning to face Ben and Elizabeth. “He has Charle and Alex for a reason. Why couldn’t one of them step in? I get that he’s the Alpha, but last night wasn’t the time to just leave me behind. He hasn’t even stayed for dinner in days—all he does is come here, lock himself in the study, and then leave after changing clothes.”Ben exchanges a look with Elizabeth before she exhales heavily. “I don’t know, Elena. How was he during the ceremony?”“He seemed fine, besides being late. I thought it went well—so well that I even believ

  • ELDER'S BLOOD    The Meeting.

Elena's point of view.I sit in the living room just off the study while Vanda and Charle finalize the details of my meeting with my mom and Serena. It hasn’t been long since I last saw them, but it feels like an eternity. My family has never been perfect—far from it. I’ve often wished my parents could be more forgiving or open-minded. But despite our flaws, we’ve never been divided like this. We’ve never been enemies. Even if I could have foreseen this rift, I never would have guessed I’d be standing on the opposing side alone.Last night, I stayed in the guest room again. I’m not even sure why. It’s always easier to sleep in Vanda’s bed, but by now, his scent on the sheets must be fading. This distance between us, the coolness in our interactions, has only added to my unease about confronting my family. Still, there was no way I could say no to this meeting. Serena is terrified of the looming war, and even though I know Vanda’s attack is inevitable, I’ll do my best to comfort her.W

There are some things we need to discuss.”“Where’s Dad?” I ask, my voice cold.“He’s busy with Alpha Kane,” she replies, her tone laced with disapproval. “I see you’ve brought Alpha VuK along.”“He wanted to ensure my safety,” I explain, though lately, his actions at the pack have made me question his intentions. Her expression tightens. “He’s violating our agreement.”“He cares about me,” I respond, though the words feel hollow. “He’s not here to cause trouble.”“Fine. I hope he keeps his promise. He seems far too eager for violence.”I bite my tongue to hold back a retort.“How are you?” Serena interjects softly. “Have you been getting my letters?”“Yes,” Mom cuts in before I can answer. “Has Alpha VuK even given you Serena’s letters? Or does he keep them from you? How much does he really share with you?

As Elizabeth and I sit at the kitchen table, reviewing our latest gift deliveries, we reflect on the positive feedback we've received."I think people really appreciate the flowers," I say thoughtfully.Elizabeth nods. "I agree; they add a nice touch.""And when Tamara showed her daughter the teddy bear we added to their basket, my heart just melted.""That was such a sweet moment," Elizabeth agrees, glancing up from our notes. With our work for the day completed, we lounge comfortably, going over ideas for improving our gifts."Do you think we should change anything?" I ask, leaning over to peek at the notepad. "It feels like we're close to having a solid routine.""I think we should fill out the flower arrangements a little more, and then we’ll be all set.""Sounds—"Before I can finish, the front door swings open, and the sharp voices of Vanda and Charles clash in the hallway."He got hurt because he's still recovering from a dislocated shoulder! • ELDER'S BLOOD    The Meeting after War.

Charles greetee us with a polite "Good morning, Luna, Alpha," as he moves to the chair across from mine.Sensing the tension thick in the air, I offer a reassuring smile and shift my chair slightly closer. "No one else is here yet. You don’t have to call me Luna.""Just getting into the habit," he says with a small smirk. The unease between him and Charles is unmistakable. Rather than longtime friends working through their differences, they seem more like distant acquaintances forced to tolerate each other. Vanda had mentioned last night that they had settled things—to some degree—but judging by their stiff interactions, it was purely a professional truce rather than the personal reconciliation I had hoped for."We were just at Rose’s," I say deliberately, keeping my voice light. "I’m officially pregnant."Charles’ rigid demeanor softens slightly. His gaze flicks toward Vanda, who meets his eyes with an unreadable expression."Congratulations," Charles finally says, turning to me. "T

Elena's point of view."Alpha, Luna, come in, come in."Rose’s voice is warm, her outstretched hand beckoning us into the safety of her home. The wind outside howls like a wounded beast, whipping through the pack lands, carrying with it the scent of damp earth and brittle leaves. The trees groan as their branches are bent and stripped, surrendering to the season’s merciless grip. The forest, once a golden canopy, is fading into skeletal silhouettes against an iron-gray sky.I hesitate for a moment, tilting my chin up to the heavens. The clouds are heavy, swollen with the promise of rain, and I hope it holds off until Elizabeth and I finish delivering the remaining baskets.Vanda is right behind me, stepping in swiftly and pulling the door shut. The second it clicks into place, the outside world is muffled, leaving only the crackling of a fire and the rich scent of herbs lingering in the air."That wrist of yours," Rose says, eyes narrowing as she sets her hands on her hips. "Tell me i

  • ELDER'S BLOOD    Burden of War, Bond of Love.

By the time Vanda returns, I’ve already checked all the doors and turned off most of the downstairs lights, leaving only the staircase chandelier glowing softly. As I stand in the bathroom, scrutinizing my reflection, I try to imagine how my body will change over the coming months. So far, the changes are almost nonexistent—just a shift in my scent, something only Vanda and a few others have noticed. It doesn’t feel real yet. I crave tangible proof, something undeniable to remind me that a new life is growing inside me.The sound of footsteps on the stairs pulls me from my thoughts. I straighten just as Vanda appears in the open doorway, his expression unreadable, exhaustion dulling his sharp features. He loosens his tie, his movements slow and deliberate, scanning the room as if lost in thought."H-how was it with Charles?" I ask, hesitating, not wanting to push too hard."It was… alright," he finally says, though the stiffness in his shoulders suggests otherwise. "We couldn’t agree

Elena's point of view.As Charles and I approach the study, a wave of anxiety clenches my chest. The heavy doors are closed, a clear indication that Vanda doesn’t want to be disturbed. But Charles doesn’t care. Without hesitation, he pushes one of the doors open and guides me inside with a firm hand hovering just behind my back.Vanda stands behind his desk, his hands planted on the polished wood, his expression caught between amusement and irritation. He bows his head for a brief moment before straightening, his sharp gaze locking onto Charles."I thought Elena would like to be part of this conversation," Charles states, stepping beside me.Vanda exhales sharply, crossing his arms. "Of course, you’d think that," he mutters. My eyes drift toward the glass sitting on Vanda’s desk, the decanter nearby waiting to fill it. Exhaustion and fury simmer beneath his composed exterior, his thirst for vengeance barely contained. The weight of everything that has happened still lingers in his pos

I wake up alone, just as I went to bed, and it’s clear that Vanda never came home last night. I lie in bed for a while, lost in thought about my body and the changes that are inevitably coming. Eventually, I push back the covers and head downstairs, finding Elizabeth already seated in the kitchen, sipping tea. Her tight-lipped smile as I join her makes me feel a little lighter."Any news since I left yesterday?" she asks, wrapping her hands around her mug.I take a seat across from her. "Unexpected news.""Unexpected? So Vanda didn’t mention anything about you being pregnant?""I'm pretty sure he hasn't noticed the shift in my scent yet. He seemed... distracted. It was like he was trying his hardest to keep his emotions in check, not to let his feelings about Alex slip. And then he started talking about this whole situation with Alpha Gold—it’s only adding to the chaos."Elizabeth frowns. "Alpha Gold?""Vanda thinks Alpha Gold wasn’t actually unable to come here because of Alexa being

  • ELDER'S BLOOD    A Grieving Soul.

Elena's point of view. Back to the present Silence fills the safe room. Charles grips the doorway, staring at the floor, while Elizabeth steps away and turns to face me."Alex is dead?"I struggle to find words. I had spoken to Alex just this morning when he stopped by the packhouse to pick up Vanda’s Wolfsbane. He had even congratulated me. I never worried much about him or Charles in battle. I trusted Vanda to watch over them, but this time, Vanda wasn't there. Somehow, Alpha Walter had discovered his absence and used it to strike when we were most vulnerable."Where’s Vanda?" I ask, breaking the silence. "Does he know?"Charles looks up. "He knows. I told him, and he went after the retreating warriors. He’s hunting down Alpha Walter—he wants revenge."Elizabeth sighs. "I'm sorry."Charles takes a deep breath. "It’s safe to go back to the packhouse. They never managed to infiltrate."Elizabeth waves Serena and Ben over."So, he went after them alone?" I ask Charles as I step out o

  • ELDER'S BLOOD    Back to The Beginning.

Vanda's point of view It was close to midnight when the mate bond struck me unexpectedly. I was in my study, going over the quarterly pack reports, trying to keep my mind occupied under the new moon. Work was supposed to be a distraction from the irrational thoughts that always surfaced on nights like these—but I had no idea I was about to spiral. Her scent drifted through the territory, seeping into the pack house, demanding recognition. I went rigid, my body betraying me as the familiar illness that plagued me bi-weekly surged through me with full force. Before I could even process it, a guard arrived at the door, his urgency pulling me back to reality.I rose from my chair, setting aside my turmoil, and faced him. I didn’t allow interruptions at this hour unless the matter was serious.“We have a trespasser from the East," the guard reported. "Two border guards have her in custody—”“You know the protocol,” I cut in, my tone firm. “If there’s no immediate threat, I’ll handle it in

  • ELDER'S BLOOD    Forged in Fire.

Vanda VuK's point of view.On my sixteenth birthday, I experienced my first shift in the heart of the open fields, surrounded by a hundred men. My body twisted and contorted, muscles stretching in ways I had never known. I couldn't cry out, couldn't shed a tear. Instead, I bit down hard, grinding my teeth until I cracked two in the back of my mouth. The sharp fragments fell onto the grass, and when I looked up, my father stood there, arms crossed, nodding in approval.Among those watching was Charles, standing beside his father. He had shifted a year before, but his father—our Beta—kept a firm hand on his shoulder, making sure he didn’t intervene. Helping me would have been seen as a weakness, an insult to my strength. When we were children, Charles and I spent most of our time together, imagining battles and fending off pretend rogues in the forest. It was our sanctuary, a place where we could create any story we wanted. Alexa often played along, crawling under tree roots and pretend
