“Could you please look after Magnus a little? I think I need to have a conversation with Lucius. One on one,” I muttered, praying whatever gods could hear me that Titus would understand.

It wasn’t my intention to push him out or make him feel as if he didn’t belong, but some things had to be done without an extra pair of eyes nearby.

I loved Titus, I really did, but I also needed just this one time.

There had to be a reason why Lucius didn’t tell us about the letter, and honestly, I had a feeling there were many more. He lost only one, but that didn’t mean he didn’t have hundreds hidden.

“I sure can watch my own son. Babe, don’t stress it. If the little dude wakes up, I’ll take him on an adventure in the gardens. And before you accuse me of something vile, no, I won’t try to find rats to teach him how to kill anymore. Promises,” Titus pecked my cheek and encouraged me to leave.
