107. "Leaving and Returning"

"What is your greatest fear?"

This was a question Martin posed to Vic during her interview for the position of his bodyguard.

"I fear bullets. They travel so quickly, and I wish I could intercept one to save a life," Vic had replied.

Now, as Martin watched Vic weep over Gray, who had heroically taken the bullet meant for her, the weight of her words hung heavily in the air.

Gray was rushed to the hospital without delay. Outside the operating room, Martin and Vic sat on a bench, anxiously awaiting updates on his condition.

Martin observed Vic, who had just managed to compose herself. Her eyes were red and puffy, mirroring the swelling on her injured foot.

"I'll stay here," Martin said gently. "You should go get your foot treated, Vic. You need care too."

Vic, however, responded with a different sentiment, "I never thought someone would be willing to take a bullet for me."

Martin fell silent, his gaze fixed on her, absorbing the gravity of her realization.
