Two days later, Isabella filed for divorce from her husband and it made it to the blogs within a few hours.
But what others were yet to find out was that filing for a divorce was not the only thing she did through her lawyer. She also filed for the custody of their daughter, demanded half of her husband’s assets and sued the mistress, Kareen for emotional damages for a hefty sum.
Even Kareen would cough out blood by the time she received the lawsuit.
Since Gerald refused to give Isabella a clear promise stating that he would end things with his mistress and cut off all ties with her, she decided to help him make a decision.
She refused to be manipulated by his emotional blackmail. How does he expect her to condone his promiscuous nature and remain by his side while he continues to see his mistress?
On a scale of 1-100, how foolish and naïve did he think she was?
Isabella was having none of that. As soon as she filed for divorce, she packed a few of her things and went to her parents’ place to stay. Knowing her husband’s temper, she didn’t doubt that he would come back to their house to confront her after receiving the lawsuits she filed against him through his lawyer.
She had to avoid him for the time being, or better still go to the police to file a restraining order against him if he attempted to disturb her peace.
Arriving at her parents’ place with one luggage and a handbag, Isabella was welcomed with open arms.
Being in her mother’s warm embrace caused all the emotions she had been withholding to come pouring down.
“Mum, I’m tired.” Isabella cried while hugging her mother tightly. As she shut her eyes and rested her head on her shoulder comfortably since they were of the same height, tears flowed from her eyes.
Mrs. Smith shut her eyes briefly and when she opened them again, she started to pat Isabella’s back gently. “It’s fine. You have fought well. Rest.”
The more comforting words Isabella heard from her mother, the more tears raced down her eyes. Right there in her mother’s arms, she began to weep until her father came over and embraced them both in his strong wild arms.
“Bella, I want you to know something. Even if everyone you trust forsakes you, your mother and I will always have our arms open for you,” Mr. Smith said with red eyes.
He felt for his daughter because he knew and could understand what she was going through.
Isabella got married at the age of twenty-three and five years later, she was leaving her husband who betrayed her and broke their marriage vows with a two-year-old daughter.

At the same time, Gerald was huffing mad after receiving the lawsuits delivered by his lawyer.
“I told that woman to wait for a bit and she went ahead to file for a divorce?!” Holding the stack of papers in his hands, Gerald’s eyes bulged from their sockets.
It wasn’t just one thing he was seeing, but three different ones. And as if that was not enough, his lawyer handed another envelope to him.
“This one is for Ms. Kareen,” the lawyer said and stuffed his hands inside his pockets.
The frown on Gerald’s face brought forth a vein at the side of his head as he felt his brain throb. By the time he made it into the apartment where he secretly housed his mistress, he had already torn the envelope open.
“Isabella!” Gerald roared when he read the contents of the envelope. His wife just sued his mistress for a whooping sum of $10,000,000.
It was at this point he understood that Isabella was the weapon fashioned against him.
When Kareen heard the roar from the kitchen, she frowned and returned the jug of milk in her hands back to the refrigerator. She was trying to make a smoothie for herself, but first, she had to find out what was going on.
Coming into the living room with one hand on her protruding belly and a slight frown on her pretty face, she saw Gerald sitting on the couch with his hands on his head.
“I heard your scream from the kitchen, what is it?” she inquired as she came to stand in front of him.
Hearing her voice, Gerald lifted his miserable face. “My wife just filed for divorce and sued you for emotional damages, $10,000,000!” he announced while pointing at the paper in his hand.
“What!” Kareen snatched the paper from him. She didn’t bother to read the note and just went straight to highlight the round figure with her eyes. As soon as she saw it, she flung the paper away!
“I’m not even worth up to this amount in assets!” she complained with her furious gaze on Gerald. “Your wife is just greedy and unreasonable!”
Immediately, Gerald rose to his feet with equal anger written all over him. Staring right into her eyes, he pointed a finger at her. “Then you should have listened to me when I refused to accompany you to the hospital at first! If you had been obedient like the previous times, that picture of us wouldn’t have made it to the blogs!”

It took a while for Isabella to calm down and take a seat. Thankfully, her daughter was asleep while she ugly-cried otherwise, it wouldn’t have been a good sight for the little girl to behold.
“Bella, your mother and I are proud of you and we support your decision. Gerald not only failed to acknowledge his mistakes but he also refused to assure you and keep his family. You don’t deserve that kind of man in your life.”
Mr. Smith didn’t like seeing his only beloved daughter cry, not after he raised her with all the care and love in the world. Seeing her in pain after another man messed her up, he was tempted to go after him.
Well, it’s not like he has given up on that idea. For now, he would stay and comfort her.
“Dad, I feel like I just ruined my entire life,” Isabella said with regret as she dabbed her tears with the handkerchief her mother passed to her.
She was worried about being a single mother and how other children and parents would perceive her daughter in future.
Would there ever be any remedy to this?
“You didn’t ruin your life. If ending your marriage is what will bring you peace of mind and happiness, then you are on the right path,” Isabella’s father said to her.“Yes, Bella,” her mother added in support. “You don’t have to worry about what people will say. You are still young, so don’t think that no good man will come your way again. Bella, you are a good woman. One day, someone who will love you and accept Isla will come into your life. Don’t give up, sweetheart.”If Isabella has not heard anything good in a long while, she has heard enough from her caring and supportive parents in the past hour. She had been so filled with pain and anguish when she arrived but right now, her tears had dried up and her empty heart had already started to get filled with hope again.“Don’t cry over people that are not worth it.” Mr. Smith said, patting her back.Smiling, her mother rose to her feet. “I made chicken soup and banana bread for dessert. I will set the table.”Isabella managed a smil
It’s been ten days since Isabella filed for a divorce from her husband, Gerald, and only six hours since her flight to New York City landed after her short vacation with her daughter, Isla in Costa Rica. Her friends had chattered a Mercedes van just to come to pick her up from the airport before driving her back to her parents' flat somewhere out of town.At first, Isabella had been alarmed by the expensive welcome her friends threw her, but after they all told her several times that she deserved more love than what she was receiving, she accepted the red rose bouquet she was given and drank the champagne they poured in her glass while on transit. With Bella back in the city, she was ready to face her problems head-on, except that Gerald wasn’t going to let her have some peace, especially after he kept losing several advertisement deals.Later that evening, after trying to reach her and failing for the umpteenth time, he had no choice but to go to one of her best friend’s places,
Isabella blacklisted him so he wouldn’t gain access to see her at her workplace.Gerald balled his fingers into a fist at that realization. ‘Bella, do you think you can run away from me forever?’ Gerald was so mad, but he controlled himself since he was in public. He didn’t want any more attention, especially one directed towards the negative. Turning to face the receptionist, he demanded, “I want to see Mr. Richard Cooper.”“Do you have an appointment?” The receptionist asked. In her mind, she couldn’t wait for him to leave, but she didn’t dare show it.Gerald fumed. “I don’t! Just give him a call and tell him that Gerald Falon is asking for a minute of his time.”“Mr. Falon, this is not how things are done here. You can’t…” The receptionist didn’t get to finish her words when Gerald slammed his fist on the desk, scaring the hell out of her. “Do you want me to teach you how to do your job?”The lady released a breath and picked up the telephone in front of her. “Please stand
Gerald did not understand what Richard meant by ‘He would be there to take over every opportunity he gives up on’ he thought it was a mere speech so, he didn’t think too deeply about it.With his uncle refusing to invest in his movies, Gerald walked out of his office and almost ran into Isabella. Both of them held each other’s gazes for almost a minute before Gerald broke the silence.“Who knew that this would be the only way to see my wife of five years after she ran away from our home,” he said without a care in the world. He didn’t even think twice before making that kind of statement in a workspace. He was pinned on getting a reaction out of Isabella unfortunately, she wasn’t in for it.“Are you and my boss related?” she asked, still maintaining eye contact with him. It was obvious the things that were most important to her. His taunting right now could not be compared with the truth she wanted to hear. She never thought that these two men would be related when Richard first
Richard has been waiting for Isabella to ask that question and finally, when she did, he didn’t delay with satisfying her with the answer. “Gerald’s mother and I are related. We share the same parents.”‘Huh?’ Invisible question marks appeared at the top of Isabella’s head. “How is that possible?” Since the five years that she’s been married to Gerald, no one has ever mentioned Richard. She never knew that he had a relationship with Gerald until today. That was weird. If he was her mother-in-law’s younger brother, why were they not close?“My parents had me in their 40s. I was more like a child born to look after them in their old age. They were trying for a girl and got me instead,” Richard explained with a smile, oblivious to her thoughts as the memories from the past eluded him.“Oh… That explains the odd,” Isabella mumbled to herself as her gaze fell on her food. “But, are you not close to any of your siblings?” she asked as her gaze moved back to his face.Isabella felt th
Walking into the house, the loud chatters made their way into Isabella’s ears as she passed her coat to a servant at the doorway and proceeded further until she got to the large sitting area. As soon as she appeared, the chatter died down and the two people in the living room turned to face her. It was Gerald and his mother. Isabella was stunned. Although it was normal for a mother and son to chat and laugh about something, she didn’t think that should have been plausible given the matter on ground. “You are here,” Mrs. Falon said casually as she took in Isabella’s gaze. “Don’t just stand there, come in and sit anywhere you like.” Isabella moved her gaze from her mother-in-law to the man she used to love and then back to the woman before taking in the living room in its entirety. Finally, she walked in and found herself an empty sofa to sit on. Mrs. Falon waited until she had sat down before asking with a small smile and slightly creased brows. “We were just about to have dinner,
Isabella returned home with her heart in pain and her soul in turmoil. She almost couldn’t believe that her mother-in-law would deviate from the real matter and ask her to give up her daughter. What kind of mother does that?Even though Isabella could try and forgive her for scolding her for the divorce she filed instead of scolding her son for cheating and humiliating her, she would never forgive her for this one, and this would be the last time she would ever show her some respect.Though pissed, Isabella dropped all the negative emotions at her doorstep and entered with a smiling face.“Mummy!” The second Isla saw her, she ran up to her with a smile and open arms. Immediately, Isabella got down on her knees and with her hands spread apart to gather the little girl in her arms.“Mwah!” Isabella planted soft kisses all over her daughter’s face before lifting her and standing up from the floor. “How is my baby doing?”The pure unfiltered joy on her face as she asked that questi
Miriam was quite busy arranging the materials for the meeting in an empty cubicle when she heard the sound of hurried steps behind her. Before she could turn around, the owner of the steps had already disappeared and she was left with a gush of air.“Who was that?” she asked the person sitting in the cubicle across from her with curiosity. The person answered, “Mr. Cooper.”“What?” Immediately, Miriam abandoned her tasks to chase after Richard. She found him waiting for the elevator in the hallway while putting on his coat. “Mr. Cooper, where are you going? What about the meeting?”“Reschedule the meeting for tomorrow,” he answered before getting into the elevator as soon as the doors opened to him.The meeting with the heads of his department to discuss their next big investment cannot be more important than the life of the woman he’s had his eyes on for the longest time.Miriam remained rooted in the same spot and watched in astonishment as the elevator doors closed. She was d
