Evanara
I ran out, embracing my exposed flesh. My corset was visible and the swell of my breasts were exposed. "Nara! Wait Nara!" Sir Gilbert shouted as he ran after me. The passersby on the street stopped and watched as I ran. It was not everyday you saw a woman in a shredded gown running on the streets of Adarlan. "Nara...please!" Sir Gilbert shouted somewhere behind me. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around. He panted on reaching my side. He handed me a woolen sweater and my hands trembled as I took it from him and put it on to cover my nakedness. "Words can not describe how sorry I am for what Adrienne has done. If there is anyway I can atone for his mistakes, please let me know." He said with joined hands.I placed my hands on his and dropped it. "There is one thing though..." I was saying before the sound of bells filled the air and my fear grew. The Keepers. They knew and they'd found me. "I don't know what will happen to me now,Sir Gilbert. Take care of Kevan. Let him know how much I love him. Take care of him for me." I said and took to my heels, trusting Sir Gilbert would help me. He was a good man and I would miss him. I ran for the forest for I knew the chances of being caught in the forest was slim. I looked over my shoulder and I noticed men in black chasing after me. My heart started racing but i knew i had to keep going. For my child's sake at least. Why not burn the Emperor alive instead of me? If they could smell a sin, they should've known that I was not a sinner.I had done nothing but worked to earn some money for Kevan. Oh Kevan. Would I get to see his brown beautiful eyes again? I got unseen energy from thinking about Kevan and I increased my pace. Branches constantly attacked me and thorns dug into my feet. I winced as I ran but I could not stop. I could see tall trees and canopies and I knew I was in the forest. I ran for what seemed like eternity until I got into the darker and thicker path of the forest. A brown wood appeared from nowhere and I tripped. To prevent myself from landing on my stomach,I embraced my belly and I fell on my face with my stomach protected. My arm was surely bruised because it stung painfully. I suddenly heard rustling of leaves and I knew they were close by. My breath came in spurts, hot and nervous. I picked myself up from the muddy ground and resumed running. I stepped on something slimy and then there was a sharp pain on the heel of my foot. I looked back but I did not stop. There was a rustle in the leaves but I did not have enough time to check back. Using the thickness of the forest to my advantage, I ran sideways. I would confuse then outrun them first before crossing the forests between Astos and Inavern. They would surely think I was going ahead. The diversion would be enough to get them out of my way. It would be easy since I had put enough distance between myself and the men. I embraced myself as the air grew chilly. At some point,I felt extremely dizzy. It was probably because of my pregnancy. The throbbing pain in my legs increased until I could not run any longer. I could barely see where I was going as the forest had grown even darker. Then moonlight penetrated the canopies and i used it to see. Night had fallen. How long had I been running? My stomach churned. I sat in front of a tree and leaned my back against it. I brought my leg to the spot the light reflected and looked down at my leg as i strained to see the source of the pain. My eyes adjusted after much effort and I was able to see two bloody dots on my leg. Snake? That explained my dizziness. I tore the hem of my dress and tied it round my leg so it would not keep spreading. It would not do much but it sure was something. The rustling of leaves had stopped and the forest would have been silent but for the owl that cried from a distance. I was alone. Completely alone. I felt a movement in my belly and my eyes watered. On second thoughts,I was not.I placed my hand on my stomach as I felt the urge to speak to it. "I will fight the entire world to protect you. I will not let you suffer like myself. This world is not a good place for us. This world does not deserve us. " I said as tears dropped on my hands. I cried pondering about how my life had gotten ruined in just one day. Perhaps if I had stayed home, nothing would have happened to me. Maybe it was my fault. My self respect put me here. Heavens please let me live. Heavens please let me live. Heavens please let me live... I prayed silently and I drifted off to sleep. A sudden sting on my neck made my eyes snap open. The light in the forest made me wince. It was morning already? It felt like it was only a few minutes ago I closed my eyes.A movement at my side made my head snap sideways. I gasped. They were all looking at me. I had been found. As I looked up at them,my vision blurred. Which was it? The snake bite? The pregnancy? What made my neck hurt so much? I touched the aching part and there was something sharp there. I pulled it out something sharp and focused my eyes on it as my sight had weakened and so had I. It looked like a needle. I looked up to see their faces but I failed as I fell into a dark abyss that called to me. ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★Kevan I opened the big beautiful book I was supposed to read. It was a history book on supernatural beings. I looked at the drawings on the book and read the things under it. I even laughed at some while I read. It seemed surreal. "Can I join you?" So engrossed in the book I did not notice Layna standing there. How long had she been there? It had been weeks and we had gotten acquainted with each other. She gave me her books and in return I would teach her the things she did not understand. After all,I was the brightest student in the Academy now and Nara had a lot to do with it. I loved her very much. I was missing her a lot too. "Can I?" She asked again, bringing me out of my thoughts."You need not ask, beautiful." I smirked as I watched her turn red. She sat on the bench beside me and the air around me smelt like her. Every time she was close to me like this, I found it very hard to concentrate and that was exactly why I had run to the library today. Usually, I would read in the classroom along with her but it was too comfortable and I was beginning to like having her around. She leaned in slightly and flipped the page over. In doing so,her fingers brushed me,igniting strange feelings in me. I looked at her despite the warning my brain gave me not to.Her eyes was fixed on the page and they twinkled with amusement. She tucked her hair behind her ear and licked her lips unconsciously. Heavens...what was happening to me? She then burst into laughter ,her eyes suddenly landing on mine. I laughed like I understood why she was laughing. I looked away from her and glued my eyes to the book. When I saw why she laughed,my smile dropped from my lips. It was a picture of a woman with sharp pointy ears like Nara's. My eyes wandered to the top of the page where the name was. It spelt out three letters. Elf. "What is it Kevan?" Layna asked and met gaze met hers. "It is just...my sister...she...her ears are just as pointy..."I said, totally forgetting i was not supposed to tell any one that and when I remembered, it was too late. " That is not possible Kevan. Elves are non existent. They would say extinct. Plus if she had those...there is no way she would still be alive. She would have been killed...except she walks around covering her ears with a scarf or something. "She said jokingly but on hearing the scarf part,I swallowed hard. I looked back at the book and read the note under it. Elves are faerie creatures are considered dangerous because of their strange and powerful abilities. It is not necessarily true that an elf is evil but once in the face of extremely grave danger, their powers surface. With power comes great change.... "Sir Kevan." Someone called, interrupting my reading and I noticed the Academy's messenger standing by the bench. I frowned. What did he want? " You have a visitor." He said and I smiled. Heavens heard me. It must be Nara.I dropped the book on Laynas laps and sped to the door. Stepping out I looked around. "Nara?" I called out. "Kevan."I turned slightly as I was startled by the manly voice. What happened to her voice? Was she alright? Sir Gilbert came to view and I looked behind him. "Where is Nara?" I said, still looking around. "She could not come. She is...sick. Down with cold." He said but there was something in his eyes that told me something was wrong with Nara. "You are not lying to me,are you?" I arced a brow. He smiled at me. A smile that did not. reach his eyes. "No Kevan. I am not lying. She sent me here to check on you. To make sure you were well. She sent this as well." He said, extending a small satin bag that smelt like cakes. I grabbed it from him and from the texture of it,i was right. "Tell her to visit soon. I miss her. Tell her we have something to talk about as well. Tell her to bring loads of cakes too when she is coming."I said and Sir Gilbert smiled. "Sure Kevan. I will be in my way now." He said and turned too quickly, arousing my suspicion. I did not stop him though. I walked back to the library with a long face, holding the cakes."Who was it?" Layna asked. I sat down.I did not reply as when I was worried about Nara,my irritability was always at its peak. "Kevan?"she said and I stayed silent and so did the library. We were alone in here and I felt weird about it. I stood suddenly, startling her."I am sorry, your Highness but I will be retiring to my room now. If you would please excuse me. "I said and turned around to go. " No. You are not excused Kevan. Until you tell me what is wrong." She said and the bench creaked behind me. I assumed she had stood up from it. I watched her with the corner of my eye. "Leave it ,Princess. It is not of your concern." I said,I knew fully well I sounded harsh but I could not help it. She took a few quick steps and stepped on her gown. Anticipating a fall, I turned quickly to stop her from falling but i miscalculated. She was directly behind me and rather than the gown tripping her,my foot tripped us both. I landed on my back and her,on my chest. I felt her heart beat increase against my chest. Mine was as fast. Her hair disturbed the view and I tucked it behind her ear gently.I had no idea what I was doing but I was always one to follow my instincts. She leaned in,her eyes moving from mine to my lips. Something in my head screamed no as my gaze shifted to her lips too. I leaned in and when I felt her breath against my skin. I swallowed, hard, leaning in. Gods, she was beautiful. So beautiful. However, I couldn't bring myself to kiss her. I would be a fool to start what cannot be finished. Taking aside the fact that I was a peasant, there was also the burning hate between our families. The hate that left myself and Nara sleeping in an almost collapsed hut. I rolled atop her to my feet and I curtsied."Forgive me your Highness." I said quickly and walked briskly upstairs to my room, leaving her there on the ground. It was not the right thing to do to a lady but it was best for us.Evanara My hands were tied up to a large log which had two other logs holding it down to the ground at both sides. Beneath me, the Everlasting flames burned with furious intensity. Just as its name implied, the fire never died down. That was not the only unique thing about the fire. It was green. Sweat trickled down from my forehead as perspiration took place. My vision blurred as I lifted my eyes from the beautiful fire and I noticed the crowd had grown even bigger that it was a few seconds ago. It seemed like all of Avalor was here to watch while I burned away. I was indeed honoured. Amidst the crowd,I sighted Sir Gilbert. Adrienne was not there with him...but I sighted Lady Agatha, his wife, who smirked at me.I looked at Sir Gilbert once again whose eyes were soft and beseeching. I arced a brow in question. He simply closed his eyes and nodded and relief washed over me. Kevan was alright. If the flames underneath me would not take my life,I would like to see him.
Gawain "It has been three days. What is wrong with her Gaius?" I fumed. "I am afraid I do not know how else to treat her Sire. I have given her the best treatment possible. She refuses to awaken." He said looking at the ground."Why? You are the best there is Gaius. Why can you not wake her?" I asked, growing impatient. He had stalled for three whole days and now this? My child's life was in danger...and its mother too. Her wounds had been healed, the poison was out of her system but her fever did not come down and she was not waking up."Sire...I... I, do not know what to do in her case. She is not... exactly... human." I had never heard anything more stupid in my life. "No? What then is she?" I asked, folding my arms. "Come." He said and opened the door to her chambers, waiting by it for me to go in.I placed my hands behind my back and walked in. There she lay on the red velvet mattress, her face upwards. It had been three days of waiting for my judgement. I knew the
Gawain "Uh...Little help here?" My back was turned to her as she was getting into a gown I had instructed her to. Her chief maiden was here with a couple of other maids to help her out. She had been acting strange all morning. She was being nice. Too nice. Perhaps,my words had gotten to her last night. Or it could be that she needed something. Either ways, it would not pass me by. I heard her groan and I was tempted to see why but she had specifically said not to turn around. "This is not necessary. I can't wear these horrifying things. I can't even breath in them. Could you please help me out of them? Please?" She pleaded. I found it weird that she would actually plead with a maid. The consorts in the palace took little or no time in bossing their maids around and this one seemed to be making acquaintances. I turned around and gazed upon her, neglecting her instructions. I could not deny the fact that she looked very stunning in the lilac gown that hugged the u
Kevan I dove into her arms and she clutched me tightly. I missed her. Her scent. I withdrew from the hug and gazed up at her. Her eyes held so much love and affection in them my insides melted. Her soft fingers fell on my cheek as she caressed my face. A tear dropped from her eyes and I wiped it away before it fell to the floor. "Kevan..." She said and kissed my forehead and then the both of my cheeks. "Kevan...I missed you." She said and her voice broke. She looked sad. Very sad. I looked at her face closely. She had gotten...fat. I chuckled at the thought of her becoming as fat and round as a ball. Her eyes lit up when she looked at me."What is it Kevan? Do you find the fact that I miss you funny? Can I not miss my own brother anymore?" She asked. "No Nara. That is not the case. You have grown fat over the past few weeks."Her face turned red and I laughed harder. I threw my hands around her again, pulling her into a tight hug. "Careful there child.
Hera "Take it from someone who has seen more years than you'll ever dream of spending on earth. Constantly trying to ruin somebody's life will end in your own ruin, Hera. I have no interest in Ajax and for your own good, Hera, leave him be. I see where you're headed and it's not going to end well. Not for you at least."Elpis's words replayed in my head, over and over again. "Do you think her words are finally coming to pass?" I asked, putting the needle I held into the piece of cloth I was almost done with embroidering. "No, Mother. Do not worry about these things. You did what you had to do." The needle suddenly dug into my index finger and I dropped the cloth abruptly. I winced and sucked on the finger. "Are you alright, Mother?" Dameon asked as he rushed beside me and knelt in front of me. I pulled out my finger from my mouth and brought it down to look at it. Dameon took it and rubbed it,worry etched on his forehead. I observed him for a while before speak
Evanara I glared at her. A deal? Over my brother? Over Kevan? I would most certainly murder her if she said another word about my Kevan.I twisted the door knob and opened it. "Where are you storming off to?" I glared at her again. "To find my brother and I swear that if I do not find him, you'll hate me."With that,I stormed out of my chamber. I had no idea where Kevan could be but Gawain would. I ran along the hallway as I located Gawain' room and I opened it."Gawain, where is..." I stopped dead in my tracks. I looked from Gawain' shocked face to Queen Katherine's face that held an irritated glare. Queen Katherine did not bother to cover her naked self. Instead she pressed her dangling breasts to Gawain who was still frozen and kissed him. Even if his waist to his thighs were covered,I could still see his erection from the blue covers. Nausea gripped me and it took all of my might not to throw up. "Get out."Queen Katherine said and only then did I notice that I
Evanara "I didn't push her." I told Prince Dameon who was hell bent on getting me punished. He looked away from me and to Queen Mother who was trying her best to look as pitiful ever. I didn't understand why I was forced to stand in the middle of the court in front of the King and other weird looking people. I had done nothing wrong. The only reason I still stood here was because Gawain warned me never to disregard the members of the court no matter how tense the situation got. "Do you suggest the Empress Dowager is lying?" A very old man who sat next to Emperor Ajax, Gawain' father asked me,looking at me strangely. I had never seen him in the castle before and his clothes were different from ours. The red of his cloak was really eye catchy. He was covered in a red cloak that swallowed his whole body up I couldn't even see what he wore inside. I could not help but imagine what I would look like if I wore something like that . Ugh. The color would contrast with my hair and I'd really
Evanara I winced as Madge pinned the final lock of hair that was left into place. Honestly, I would have preferred a scarf but I was not given so much as a choice. "All done, your Grace." Madge said.I stood from the wooden stool and looked at myself. I looked away instantly as I felt the contents of my belly reach out for my throat. "Can you not get a tunic for me instead of this... this clothing?" I asked. She looked at me,rather stunned by my remark and her lips pursed in a way I concluded she took offense of my words. With the look on her face,I could have sworn if I was not with child...the Emperor's child, she would be mopping the castle floors with my face. "No your grace." She mumbled a few more word underneath her breath and laughter erupted from the left corner of my room and it came from the maid scrubbing the floors who after a glare from me stopped laughing. "What did you say?" I asked her."Nothing." She said, giving me an evil eye. "Get out."
I stood before a large oak tree with my back turned to Zephyros. He had brought me here a moment ago after taking me from Tymon's without my permission. I had predicted something like this. His restraint burned to ashes the moment he saw me in the fighting leathers. I just hadn't predicted he would bring me to the middle of nowhere i could recognize. I felt him behind me,a steady wall of heat that threatened to warm me up from the inside, dare i let it. I closed my eyes as a familiar thrill built up inside me. I could not afford for him to smell my need. Control. I needed to control myself else my skin would light up again. It was difficult but with ice in my core and steel for bones, i turned around and met his predatory gaze with cold eyes. "Why have you brought me here?"My question came out as a song, silencing the birds that chirped in the air and the wind that howled in the distance, each word coming out an octave higher than the last. He gave me a knowing lo
"Why?" I asked with a yawn. My joints and muscles ached from the transformation and the cold. I held the quilt tighter and waited for her reply. She was silent for a long time and I found myself already dozing before she finally said, "Rest. You are tired." I did not protest as her voice was a lull on its own. I fell into dreamless sleep and for the first time in years, I felt like I was being looked after. I awoke shortly after to the sound of raised voices outside my room. I squinted at the brightness and looked out the square window. It was morning already yet I felt like I hadn't slept in days. The voices grew louder, causing my focus to shift from the window. I stared at the door and lifted my right hand. I cocked my head slightly before pointing at the door and glamouring it without so much as a thought. The voices grew distant until all i could hear were the birds chirping from far away. I sighed and drew the covers over my head. I dozed, only to be awoken by something slamming
Zephyros "You will go and bring her back this instant!" My cousin yelled again and I cringed inwardly at her foul display of childishness but made no effort to reply her. I gripped my pen hard yet not enough to break it. I had cut down men, impaled my enemies on stakes, burned lands and lands that housed creatures that threatened my kind, surely, a cranky woman... Or three cranky women were nothing to me. "The situation at Gantreth?" I question Bren, scribbling down a message for their scrawny leader. As per tradition, to visit a land, you must notify and gain permission first. Showing up and tearing down their gates would have been easier but Father refuses violence. I am a creature of violence and he continuously tries to hold me down. You're brooding. You should go bring her back, Zephyr. I didn't need to look up to know Bren was frowning down at me. I could hear it in his voice. Feel him in my head even. I frowned mentally at him and pulled my mental s
I snorted. "I know what I look like. You are not it." It rumbled again. "You tell fine jokes, child. Without me, you are nothing. Look closely. Tell me what you see. Who you see." I peered up at its bright eyes. It blinked and its slitted gold turned blue, like its scales... I paused. Those eyes... The time I'd invaded Dameon's thoughts, I had seen me with them but I had disregarded it, knowing I didn't have blue eyes. Looking closer at its hairy scales made me want to touch my hair. They were the same color. I snorted. My mind was playing tricks on me. I would know if I was a... A... I frowned again. What was it? "What are you? Do you have a name?" I asked again. "I am you." It repeated in thick layers. I tried to growl but I ended up making an embarrassing sound. It merely watched me with wise old eyes. How was I supposed to ask it questions if it kept giving vague and odd answers? I rubbed my forehead with my thumb. If it thought it was me
My body jerked as he yanked out the sword, cutting through flesh and no doubt bones. I choked again and coughed as I staggered backwards, staring at nothing but my brother's face. An illusion. It had to be. He was dead. He was dead. I fell on my knees as my surroundings started to darken. Was it getting dimmer or was I starting to black out? I placed my hands on the gash and coughed again. The metallic tang in mouth tasted so disgusting I had to spit it out. I looked up. It was him. Kevan. Grown. Fully grown into a man. His eyes were so cold and distant. He smiled down at me and I noticed the fangs in his mouth. Fangs? The tip of his ears were rounded like a human. His hair was long but not the Fae kind of length. He looked ordinary, yet not. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Bren inching towards him with a raised sword. "No!" I cried. He paused, fuming. "No?! He harmed my mate!" His voice came out in layers, making the ground vibrate. His eyes... T
Nyxaria's lips compressed into a thin white edged line. "No. That isn't right. Maybe... Maybe you aren't feeling well. There can not be Faebane here." I blinked uncomprehendingly. "You think I wouldn't know if I was ill?" I pointed at the entrance. "There is something wrong here Nyx. I am not ill." She made an impatient sound and her eyes narrowed. "You don't understand. It is near to impossible that Faebane be in this building. The security--" I inched forward. "Wasn't the security high in Alfheim as well? Yet, somehow, the entire hall got drugged and had no explanation for it. This," I pointed at the entrance again, " This is an actual explanation Nyx. If there is anything I've leant, it's that there's no such thing as impossible." Nyx's eyebrow pulled together in the biggest frown I'd ever seen on her face and her silver eyes burned with anger. "There is no--" Vivi dove between us and held both her hands up in front of her. "Okay. Okay. Calm your h
I got through training, though my thoughts were distorted. I found it hard to concentrate and I had to apologize to Kyria over and over again. It got harder when at the end of it all, I could not do a thing. "Do not berate yourself about it. You made major progress today. A little more practice and you will be perfect at it."Lord Vas wrapped his arm around my shoulder and patted my head on the way out. "Lord Vas. Lady Danae. My my, isn't this lovely?" Tymon walked in through the huge doors, arms spread out like he was expecting a hug. I cocked my head and Lord Vas retracted his arm that rested on my neck. I heard Zephyros's growl behind me and chose to ignore it. "Tym, you are late." Anya quipped beside me, nose buried in another book bigger than her heart shaped face. The girl-woman never stopped reading. Tym's eyebrows rose and he gave that lopsided grin again. "Am I? The lesson's just about to begin."★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Having Tymon host me was not
Katherine I toyed with the dagger in my hands as we strode to the stables. The horses were unnecessary but it was one of those days. I wanted my slaves to look upon their Queen. My other purpose was strengthening the barrier again. If Leandros was who my grandmother made him out to be, it would be a smart enough move for him to try intrude my lands now. I could not have that yet. Especially not with the resent losses I incurred with the mission. I clenched the dagger tightly with simmering rage. "How many did we lose?"I asked again. "None came back alive, my Queen." Adrienne answered again for the fifth time. I clenched my jaw. "You have investigated like I told you to?" "Yes, my Queen. Our sources tell me it was the dragon. He burned them alive at once." I swiveled and glared at Adrienne. "Did they not tell us Neradia would be unguarded?! Did they not tell us the one with ichor in his veins would be away?!" I screamed. His eyes widened and he b
The pungent smell of Faerie fruit was enough to make me befuddled. I refused the sixth cup that was offered to me, knowing how good I was at holding my liquor. I sat beside Lord Vas and his family on the dias, sticking to the left side of him and being forced to watch how crude the Lesser Fae really were when Faerie fruit was involved. "I must thank thee, My Lord!"A drunk Sylph with wickedly handsome features grinned and bowed clumsily, nearly toppling over the two Nymphs that he held by their waists. The first with long green hair kissed his face and neck, occasionally pinching her nipples through the thin silver fabric she wore. The other fumbled with his jacket and let out a growl when she could not take it off. She looked down and giggled before grabbing his crotch. "Patience pet." The male growled before moving away with his drunken companions. It was not the first nor was it the worst i had seen that night. I avoided gazing at the left corner of t
