Over the previous week Lilli and I met up at the café to talk about the job and I explained as much as I knew about the work. She seemed happy and excited and I found myself hoping that she would enjoy herself.
The rest of the night is uneventful and after the club is cleared, we meet at the bar to count our tips for the night. Max comes out to tell us that we have had a great night and takings are higher than they have been in a while. We are all impressed and Ray pours everyone a drink to celebrate, as requested by Max.
At first after I went out for my break all was fine, I propped the door with a can and stood to the side to get some air. The alley way that the club backs on to, is narrow and we are at the back end, which is walled off, so there is only one way into it.
Drake jumps off Adam and scoops me into his arms just as both Rex and Tony appear in the alley, I'm not paying complete attention, but I gather that Max sent them to find us.
The next morning, I wake to sunshine streaming in through the window and a raging headache. As I try to sit up my whole body complains, and I realise that the adrenaline must have kept the pain at bay last night.
Lance. “Ouch! Will you be careful?! That Hurts!” The doctor is working on removing the arrow from my arm, but he is being especially rough about it. “Hold still, please your highness. It is embedded quite deeply into your muscle. If you wish to retain the full use of your arm, I suggest you stop complaining and sit still.” “Argh!” He pulls on it again, the pain is excruciating, this is the sec
“Very well. Drake I formally accept your request to marry my daughter and once Lilliana resumes her duties you will accompany her to enable you to learn how you can best support her. Rex and Tony are to become your personal security detail and I hope that this will prove to be a much more harmonious arrangement.”I cannot help but laugh at the last part and from his smile I can see my father sees the funny side too.“Thank you, father. I promise to make you proud.”“I know you will Lilliana, that is all I wanted to discuss with you all for now, you may do whatever you wish from here until things are settled once more.”At my father’s dismissal we leave the parlour and Tony hands Jacob back to me. I decide to go to my room, so I lead Drake and the others upstairs. Upon entering my room, I can tell immediately that it’s been kept clean and just as I left it, which is both a relief and a little sad, knowing that they believed me dead. “Here, I will take the little lad to our room and we
“Not to worry, it will take time, but he will become comfortable with us.”“Drake, would you like to meet him properly?”
I'm frozen in shock after my father finishes speaking, it's all I can do to hold tightly to Drake's hand, whilst holding a sleeping Jacob in my arms. Can this all truly be real? Or am
To have her in my arms again is amazing, I feel whole again, it's simply incredible. I never want to let her go; never again do I want to be separated from her. I feel her begin to shake a little and I realise that she is finally allowing herself to relax, I press my face into the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent. She smells different, like pine and fresh spring water.
After the deep cold and darkness that took over my body when I was shot the first thing, I feel is warmth. It's a strange warmth not, like a blanket or a warm bath but, drier more intense.
I throw myself off the cliff as I hear Rex and Tony yelling at me, terror in their voices. I am falling but I feel no fear of losing my life, instead I feel a change sweeping my body, everything feels stretched, but it’s as though a hidden piece of my soul has been unlocked.
I wake to a black wet nose in my face and hideous dog breath, that almost makes me pass out.“Ugh oh wow, Fang blagh go away I can't breathe.”
“I did do my job you’re the one who pointed a gun at us and killed her.”“How dare you?! That is slander and I will not stand for it!”
