Donovan took Boma by the hand and led her to the Dinner table which Sharon had set. Jane said the grace before they began to eat and there was a chorused Amen from everyone seated at the table.

Boma was not surprised that they were Christians and of the Faith just as she was. Norwood was vastly dominated by Christians.

Boma watched the family begin consuming their meal using the formal cutlery eating manners. She observed that Sharon was the only one using just her fork.

Emboldened that she would not be the only one eating the informal way, Boma picked up her fork and was about to dig in when she heard Donovan curtly addressing Sharon.

"What are you doing, kiddo?"

"Eating," Sharon mumbled defensively.

"Of course, I know you're eating. Why are you eating like that?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Do not patronize me. Are you going to pretend you don't know what I'm talking about? Is that how you eat in this house now?"

Sharon frowned, a whiny look furrowing her brows. “I don't feel like

Memories of Donovan’s wrath reminded her of the seriousness of her present situation. Donovan was a guy that didn’t hesitate to slap her on their first meeting.Remembering that, she dumped the clothes hanging on her arm onto the bed. Then she quickly undressed, foraged through her bag, and retrieved a pencil jean skirt. She found her inner tight and wore it beneath her skirt. Then she wore the blouse that she had picked out earlier. Her bag was unorganized by the time she was done and she didn’t like that, but she knew she needed to save time.Boma left her things unkept, found her crossbody purse, slipped her legs into a pair of sandals, and hastily exited the bedroom. She managed to find her way down the stairs and out to the main door. Standing outside the house, she panicked as she didn’t see Donovan around. She looked towards the parking lot but she didn’t see him. She walked down the porch stairs and sighted him at the end of the swimming pool where he was making a call as he ma

The girl smiled at Boma who managed to return her smile even though she was not in a good mood because of Donovan’s controlling behavior. Boma’s eyes briefly fell on the mirror. Her eyes lingered on the reflection of the ring on her finger, a constant reminder of Donovan. She wished that she could get rid of it but she knew better than to do so. “You’re so lucky.” Boma heard the girl comment, distracting her from her thoughts. Boma found herself facing the girl and giving her attention, even as she remembered Donovan’s warning not to talk to strangers. She waved his warning aside. He was just being paranoid as far as she was concerned. She was also quite stunned by the girl’s upfront manner and bluntness. “Why do you say that?” she asked. “Your boyfriend. That guy is your boyfriend, right?” Boma opened her mouth, and thought about denying it but ended up admitting it with a nod. “He’s handsome and generous too. No one needs to tell me he is rich. I can see he is. I want a guy l

At Donovan’s pronouncement, Boma stared at him, incredulous. What on earth was he talking about? He had to be joking.“You look shocked.” he was amused at her speechlessness. But he wasn’t surprised at her reaction. It was normal given the circumstances. “Why are you shocked?”“Young guys barely talk about marriage.” She replied and he scoffed.“Hmm. I know right?” he shrugged mindlessly. “But not me. I have always desired to start early. I want to raise my children when I’m young and full of energy. Children are a handful. I want to have a life after they are grown and on their own. I am almost twenty-two. So, if I start by next year, I will be forty-two or so when my first child is my age right now. And if my child starts early like me, imagine, I will be a grandpa by the time I am fifty-two or something. I will then be a young grandpa.”Boma could not find her voice as she listened to his plans.“What do you think?” he asked with a self-satisfied smirk on his lips.Boma swallowed ha

Back inside the room, Boma met Donovan lying on the bed with a sleeping eye mask over his eyes. He pulled up the mask, letting it rest on his forehead as she walked inside. He was bare-chested with designer boxers on. He was male perfection lying there, tall, fit…and dangerous her head reminded her. His attention was focused on her and she stood before the bed with feelings of nerviness starting to consume her. She didn’t know when she would ever get over her fear of him.“Were you there to sleep or hang out?” he questioned.“I wanted to hang out but I felt sleepy.” She lied. She could tell that he doubted her words as he stared at her probingly.“Were you just trying to avoid me?”Boma shook her head, denying the truth he was trying to figure out. His searching gaze stayed fixed on her, telling her that he didn’t believe her. But then she also noticed the hint of a smirk on his face. She was a bit relieved that he was not getting angry as she had feared.“Are you afraid that I’m going

In the morning, Boma woke up, feeling rested. Upon rolling on her side, she discovered that Donovan was not beside her on the bed.She sat up on the bed and decided to freshen up quickly so that by the time he got back inside the room, she would be done. She was still feeling self-conscious about his presence when having to bathe or change her clothes around him. She was used to enjoying her privacy. Even if she was sharing the room with a girl, she was still self-conscious about things like that. She fondly recalled Hilda teasingly calling her a body hider.Boma hastily climbed off the bed and listened for sounds in the bathroom. She heard nothing as she stood by the door. Then she knocked on it to confirm that no one was inside. She got no response and put the moment to good use.She prepared for the day, brushing her teeth and having her bath. She finished dressing up in casual house-wear before checking her new phone.Boma saw that her phone was fully charged and had been unplugged

Boma quickly explained what had happened at the phone store the previous day. She told him about how a girl entered the restroom, chatted with her randomly and hugged her, after which she noticed that the ring was gone. And by the time she returned to the store, the girl was already gone.Hearing her explanation, Donovan felt a different anger taking over him. At first, when he discovered her finger without the ring, he thought it was a show of disobedience. That thought pissed him off. But now that he had discovered the truth from her lips, he was getting more pissed off. “And you’re telling me this now because?” he asked sharply. He was trying to put a reign on his temper because he had promised himself to be patient with her, especially as this was her first time in his family home. But she was trying his patience.Boma was tongue-tied, seeing his rising fury, but she managed to open her mouth.“I- I was going to tell-” she began and cried out as her face became hot, a sharp sting

Boma was aware of the car slowing down as he parked it by the curb on a busy-looking street. She did not dare to look his way.Anxiety was already overwhelming her, but she managed to keep her composure and communicate with her father. Her father sympathized with her over the unfortunate incident and asked how she got the phone she was currently using to speak with him.Boma explained that a friend of hers from school bought it for her."That's good." He said. "Your friend is a male or female?""Male." She replied. She was done with lying for the moment. It was not doing her any good."Okay. But please be careful and focus on your education. Okay?""Okay. Where is Mama?""In the bathroom.""Okay. Please send her my love.""I will. How is school?""School is fine.""So where are you right now?""I'm at—" Boma hesitated, the words catching in her throat as she quickly weighed her options. Should she tell her father the truth? A part of her wondered if involving him might help her out of

At Donovan’s words, Boma’s body shuddered with dread.“I swear, I won’t ever lie to you again.” She said desperately, the words leaving her mouth in a rush. “I promise that…”“I remember saying that I don’t want to hear your voice.” He interrupted brusquely, silencing the torrent of promises that her mouth was running a mile a minute to make, fueled by her fear. When the car reached the security gate, a bland looking but fit security guard in his late forties emerged from the security house situated close to the gate. He drew closer to the gate and granted them entry upon seeing Donovan, who let down his side window and stopped just inside. The man’s hands had come together in a sign of prayer, begging for Donovan’s attention, hence his pause. After securing the gate, he hurried over to talk to Donovan. Boma kept to herself, facing her side window as she dreaded the coming moments. Still, she listened to the two’s conversation. In her opinion, the security guard was overly polite, aski

IntimacyDonovan spoke to Boma in the morning about moving in again, stating his concerns. She considered it and said she would think about it. They were both in bed, her hand on her waist.“Great.” He said, smiling.“You did this to me.” She whined. “I’m so round.”He laughed. “You’re the one who won’t stop eating.”“I can’t help it.”“I know. It will pass, Sweetheart.” He planted a kiss on her cheek. She smiled, then frowned. “D, please rub my feet.”Donovan obliged her. But she pointed to her knee. “No, there.”He laughed and indulged her. “Hope you won’t be the death of me.”She glared at him. “Are you complaining?”He lifted his hands in mock surrender, shaking his head. “Me? Complain? How dare I complain about taking care of the Queen of my heart?”She started to smile then frowned. “My feet, D, please massage.”He didn’t oblige her this time. He kissed her lips and murmured in her ear. “I know what you need, Sweetheart. You want me. Don’t worry, I will be gentle and come in fro

The Dark MeetingAmong the attendees were representatives from the minor cults on campus, including an all-female cult that had often operated in the background, carefully observing the landscape of power. Their leader, a sharp-eyed girl with an air of authority, stood to address the group. She recalled her altercation with the girl Donovan married. She had thought maybe Donovan would grow tired of her, but it was not happening. Also, she thought she had moved on, but the more she saw Donovan’s success, the angrier she got. She wanted his downfall over this and had orchestrated everything by getting all the rival cult groups together.“Look at him,” she sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. “Donovan thinks he’s some kind of hero, but we all know better. He’s just a fraternity member like the rest of us, and it’s time we remind him of his place.”As she turned off the video, the room fell silent. The atmosphere shifted, igniting the simmering animosity rising within the members. “W

Donovan’s LeadershipAs Donovan dove back into his responsibilities as SUG President, his passion for improving campus life grew stronger. He focused on the promises he made the school during his manifesto. One of his first initiatives upon resuming his role was addressing the issue of inadequate transportation on campus. The student body had long complained about the lack of school buses, leading to overcrowded rides and long waits. Donovan, refusing to let this linger any longer, called for a meeting with the university's management. Armed with facts, surveys, and the frustrations of his fellow students, he laid out his proposal: the school needed more buses, and the government had the resources to help. After hours of discussions, Donovan sent a formal proposal to the state government, making a strong case for why they needed to invest in the transportation system for the students. His tenacity paid off when his proposal was received positively, and a few weeks later, several new b

AFTER BOMA’S FULL RECOVERY The trauma from Boma’s ordeal with Harry was fading, thanks to Donovan’s gentle care and devotion. The school holiday was in full swing, and as promised, Donovan decided it was time for their honeymoon abroad. THE HONEYMOON Boma felt a mix of excitement and nerves as she sat beside Donovan on their flight. It was her first time flying, and though Donovan had wanted to book first class, she insisted on experiencing it in economy for her first time. Donovan agreed on the condition that their return flight would be first class. This way, she would experience both options. Boma accepted. Meeting each other halfway was becoming their norm, and Boma was beginning to enjoy the equality she had longed for. Donovan, always wanting to see her happy, indulged her wishes, adjusting to this new dynamic of negotiation in their relationship. His palm rested gently on her stomach as the plane began to take off. She breathed deeply, her eyes wide with a mix of fear

She heard her name, then the words, "Don't go- Come back to me- It's D- I love you- Please-"The voice grew louder, pulling her back. The light faded as she heard, "It's Papa- please don't leave me. Ken stood before a pacing Harry in the living room of the cabin. As a frat house it was simple, rustic with minimal furniture."Calm down, bro." Ken said, causing him to pause."That bastard is not taking me seriously." He shouted. "Does he think I'm joking?" "No. But it's just his way to assert his power. You are still the one in power. You have the leverage, so calm down."Hearing that, Harry sank down on a chair. Ken followed suit as Harry called Donovan who picked up after the second ring. This delay also infuriated Harry. Donovan should be desperate, calling him all the time. "I will kill your wife by tomorrow if you've not resigned by 12:00pm." He declared and ended the call.He sat back, satisfied that this time, it was he who had ended the call."Good one, bro." After what felt like an hour, the car finally slowed down, bumping along a rough road.Boma sensed they were far from the island, possibly near the city outskirts. God, where were they taking her?The car stopped, and her captors dragged her out. She heard nothing but forest sounds. Maybe they were at a cabin in the woods, she thought. Barely able to struggle, she was carried into a house. The creaking of boots on wood told her it was a wooden structure. A door lock clicked open, and she was carried inside. The air was stale, as if the place hadn't been aired out in ages. She heard a window opening, letting in some much-needed ventilation. Inwardly, she was grateful; she could have suffocated otherwise. Finally, they dropped her to the floor and removed her blindfold. She faced Harry. His gaze was cold, devoid of the compassion she once saw in him. He was a man consumed by envy and a thirst for power. She wanted to speak, to appeal to his better nature, but her lips were sealed.Fear

Donovan called Hilda, his fingers tapping impatiently against the phone as it rang."Hello, Hilda," he said as soon as she picked up. "I need to talk to you. It’s about Boma."Hilda's voice, already laced with worry, deepened. "What’s going on, Presido?""I’ve been trying to piece together where she might be. The security guard saw her leave with someone in a black car. Do you remember anything unusual about her recently?"Hilda paused, thinking hard. "The last time we saw her was at the faculty block, and she was alone but was later joined by Harry. They went to check his exam results together."Donovan’s grip tightened on the phone. He remembered encountering her that day as well. He had even seen Harry's car as he left. "Harry? Are you sure?""Yes," Hilda replied. "We didn't like it and didn't think much of it at the time, but now- it worries me.""Thanks, Hilda. I’ll do all I can to handle it from here," Donovan said, ending the call abruptly. His mind raced, fury bubbling to the s
