'Mhhm' Susan huffed when she saw Joey's face on a massive billboard while she was en route to her aunt's house from the airport.
'Pure girl indeed' She yelped and briefly laughed out loud. That was the slogan that the brand Joey was advertising on behalf of chose to call her.
Michael glanced at his mom and made a face that seemed to ask what the drama was about.
'Mom you are always in another world' the wise Michael said innocently and continued to look out the window, taking in the splendour of the new country he was in. Susan looked at him with lovable eyes. His advanced gimmick always took her by surprise. Anytime Susan felt that Michael had reached his elastic limit in blowing her away with his magnificence, he would strike again with something else that would only raise the bar.
Thinking back to Joey, Susan realized that she had not heard anything about her throughout the five years that she spent out of the United States. She had completely forgotten about Joey. Susan wasn't surprised anyway to see that Joey was a celebrity cover girl, she knew Joey had it in her, although at the time when she was in the States before she ran away, Joey was an ordinary art student. Typical, everyday pretty girl. About the 'pure girl' part, that was not true about Joey at all. If Susan could remember clearly, Joey used to change boyfriends in high school a lot. At a point, she dated an elite student in a lower class in school than her. That was her first taste of an extravagant lifestyle, now all of a sudden, to the same boys turned men that slept with her in the days when everyone was unassuming, she was a pure girl. Susan shook her head at how unfair the world was. She grasped her kids, pretending to be concerned about whether they were tired from the long journey they had embarked on, but deep down she was consoling herself with them, they were her only reward from the unfair hand life had dealt her.
'Well, I didn't come all the way back here to indulge myself in things that are passed and bitter' she muttered the words out of her mouth in affirmation, so that the past will never haunt her the way it was currently trying to, rearing its ugly head. Her kids were her priority, and that was how it was going to remain for her by all means.
The time she held her kids close to her, she noticed that they were tired quite alright. Judy had already even slept off, as expected, but Michael, the man of the house, tried to keep himself awake, and he was succeeding. He needed to be awake just in case his mom fell asleep with his sister, he would look out for all of them.
Michael's eyes were suddenly glued to a skyscraper. The wonder in his eyes was so contagious Susan turned to look towards the direction his eyes were glued at, and then she saw it too, the edifice that grasped Michael's attention.
'Mom, look at that building, I didn't know buildings could be that tall' the boy exclaimed in genuine wonder.
'Yes my love' Susan replied, trying to sound as light as possible, but her wonder too was slowly giving in to the magnificence that they were staring at. The fact that it was not just one skyscraper was another thing that blew her mind, and to think that they had their own air space mapped out for them, no air crafts were allowed to fly by that space, it was interesting to think of.
As grand as those buildings were, Michael dared to ask his mom if they would visit soon, as part of their welcome tour to America.
'What?' Susan gasped, breaking into laughter. 'Son, those are offices, likely government executive offices, you can't just show up there without an invite, or being an important person' Susan explained. A disappointed Michael folded his arm in protest. His eyes remained glued to the building until it was out of sight, he wished on his stars that he would get to access the place.
The building they had just passed by was called the ICON PLACE CENTER. It was a major landmark in the country and a stamped signature of wealth and sovereignty.
As at the time Susan and her kids passed by, there was a lady, a dainty lady with auburn hair, long enough for it to get wrapped in several kneads, and hang tilted towards a part of the lady's shoulder, exposing her clear skin. She stepped out of an expensive sports car, a Lamborghini Messiah to be precise. Her flowing red dress followed behind her while she walked into the building, stealth-like that of a cat. The building, expensive as it was, had an expensive skin carpet spread towards the direction of the President's office. The President of the ICONIC PLACE CENTER, Mr Richard Williams. This mysterious, rich lady was Joey. She was going to invite Mr Richard for her birthday dinner. Joey did all the usual rituals that females who were interested in a man would do when they were about to see this said man, and the fact that she was in the show business, made it easy for her to determine what he would like. The door of the sixty-sixth-floor penthouse office was swung open by Mr Richard's assistant after Joey had taken the elevator upstairs. She walked in gracefully. Joey smiled at the majestic, yet eerily mysterious man that sat behind an expensive mahogany desk situated in the middle of the spacious room that had an interior with an aura as cold as Alaska. This noble king had to have a penchant for anything grey because that was the colour that dominated the office space, with a sprinkle of black scattered here and there. The room was the perfect fit for his melancholic temperament.
Susan was furious. Joey was trying to bring up her shameful past in front of Jacob, and the way she was going about it was full of mockery and insult. Joey's own mom, who doubled as Susan's stepmother had drugged her, and then when she became unconscious, sent her to the hotel where the disgusting man who was now the father of her kids had broken her innocence while she was not even aware of what was going on with her. How ruthless. How could she be able to tell Jacob that sort of story of her life? Of course not. She was not going to do that.''What is she talking about, Susan?'' Jacob asked. The more Joey hinted at the reason Susan ran away to a foreign country, the more curious Jacob became.''Please dear, let's just continue to eat in peace. There's nothing to know'' Susan told Jacob calmly. She was determined to maintain a smooth relationship with him. If she dared to talk about her nasty experience, she was not sure how Jacob would react.''She has been with other men, Jacob. It
Susan arrived at the Beathrow Restaurant a couple of minutes later. A lot of luxury cars were lined up from side to side, protecting a limousine that stood in its grace and beauty between the cars that guarded it.A tall and handsome man with legs that were as long as stilts stepped out of the car. His face shone brightly as the sun and all heads were turned toward his direction because of the grace and aura he carried. However, these lurking eyes could not behold the stern gaze that the cold and emotionless man returned at them. He oozed arrogance and pomposity, so much so that no one could walk in the same space with him. His presence and appearance definitely felt like a shame to any other men that were not on his level and status.A proud Richard Williams led his bodyguards into the reserved elevator section of the Beathrow restaurant. While he was in the elevator, his jaw clenched and unclenched in nervousness, anxiety, and a bit of anger at the fact that he knew Susan was in tha
''Keep an eye out on them for me. And always call or come back to tell me what is going on, okay?''Richard ordered his bodyguards to man the district where his kids lived with their mother, Susan, and their aunt, Mabel. After what Michael revealed in the car on their way to the district they lived in, Richard could not leave without making sure that he appointed guards to watch over them. If Richard came to hear at any time that his kids were missing, he was sure going to lose his mind. So he acted hurriedly. As expected, Richard did not drive himself home. He sat behind the car and let his thoughts wander away, thinking about his children.''Are you okay, Susan?'' Aunt Mabel asked when Susan entered the house with the kids and shut the door behind her. Susan quickly walked over to the window and appeared to be worried while she peeped outside.''What's going on outside, what are you looking at?'' Aunt Mabel asked.''Mummy is looking at our daddy's car'' Michael the mischievous one r
''Exactly Michael. You know how unsafe it is to have all these mean-looking men glaring at you angrily, so it is better that you stay away from him. Don't go close to him because only mean people move around with these mean men'' Susan told her inquisitive son.Richard's face immediately got distorted after Susan made this unwholly remark. He was upset because he knew that Michael had taken his mother seriously after she made such a comment about him.''My dear boy, I have to move around with them so that I can be safe and get to wherever I am headed, quickly. Don't mind your mom, I'm not a bad person. Okay?'' Richard asked Michael. Michael completely agreed with his dad on this one.''It is true mom. Daddy is right. If we have the mean-looking men with us, you won't have to be afraid that anyone wants to take Judy and I away, you know that you are always afraid of it happening.'' Michael told his mother, Susan.''What did you say?'' Richard barked suddenly at Michael. He slowed down
Judy woke up uncomfortable. She smacked her cheeks urgently as if something was itching her. Maybe Richard's excessive kisses on her face caused her such discomfort.''What?'' Richard asked urgently when Judy's face started to distort. It seemed as if she wanted to cry. He got up in a haste, feeling that Judy had grown tired of the position that he held her in, and started to rock her back to sleep while he held her in his arms, gently cooing her back to dreamland, but Judy woke up. Her eyelashes fluttered open, and her large eyes blinked in front of Richard's face. When Richard looked into her eyes, he saw that they were so pure. Like the sky on a bright sunny day, they shone and gleamed at him, blinking gently and trying to get used to the environment that they were faced with.''Mummy...'' Judy cooed as soon as she got a complete hold of her senses.''It's me, Judy, it's Daddy that's here with you now'' Richard told her.''No, I want mummy now. Not you, mummy. I want mummy''. Judy
''Richard wants to see you''. Susan told the butler when she found him outside the living room, staring in the direction of the ocean.''Take her to look for the boy'' Richard ordered, and soon enough, the butler and Susan were on their way to fetch Michael from wherever he was. They drove in a cart across the expanse of the beach, scheming through the foot of the mountain and past the forest. Susan heaved a deep sigh. This was the definition of wealth. She quickly snapped back to the moment when she realized that she was having pleasant thoughts concerning something that had to do with Richard. Nothing could ever make her see Richard in a pleasant light. The son of a bitch that was trying to take her kids from her, never! The butler took her to a massive toy room, and there she found Michael. He was lost in another world. Focused, yet his face flushed with excitement while he swam in the abundance of toys that graced him in that room.He was in the company of Richard's assistant, who
