He looked at me with a frown, but then he nodded his head.

"Whatever," he muttered in a deep voice as he walked past me.

When he walked away from me, I closed my eyes, remembering his attractive cologne. I realized it was the first time we had spoken.

"Hey, Nerdy. Why are you alone? Did you think any of us would count you as a beautiful lonely girl?" A boy paused and said to me.

I did not argue with him; in fact, I never argued with anyone because I was afraid that if I did, they would bully me or lie about me to the dean, causing problems for my mother. Except for my three well-wishers, I tried to avoid interacting with others.

"Robin, stop it and come on. We don't have time for your nonsense," Ian spoke up from a little distance from me.

I turned my head toward him. He was looking at the boy who was standing beside me.

That boy named Robin walked to him and said,

"You should not have stopped me. I was making fun of that nerd."

"Still no time for your nonsense," Ian said as he walked ahead, running his fingers through his wet locks.

"Why did Ian save this girl?" I heard whispers from the girls around me.

I stared at Ian's back until he went another way and disappeared from my sight.

"AVA"

I turned around and saw Luke waving at me, so I went over to him.

He was a top student in his third year, the same year as Ian.

There were rumors that Alpha Martin would hand over his pack to his son, Ian Dawson, and retire from duty. No one knew the exact date. Some people said it would be after his graduation.

Ian was totally a brat. He did not appear to be interested in his father's throne. He spent most of his time partying and hanging out with his friends.

"I was waiting for you," Luke said, holding a sports bag over his shoulder.

Luke was the basketball captain of Ian's opposing team, 'Red Flamor'. Ian was the captain of the team 'Black Diamonds'.

"I ran into someone and ended up being late," I replied.

"You mentioned that you needed my help with statistics."

"Oh yeah."

"Let's go to the library."

"Good idea. I'm telling Abigail to get there."

"Okay."

Together, we made our way to the library. That was how we met a few months ago.

He was a top student, and I was trying to solve math problems. He assisted me and offered to help me study. Following that, he met my friends, and we all grew close. But he also had other friends.

We entered the library and proceeded to the large table where other students were studying.

After settling into two chairs next to one another, we began our study.

Later on, Abigail joined us. Besides her, there was Debra, my other friend. She was a very sweet girl. She was fashionable and trendy. Her mood was down because her boyfriend cheated on her with a cheerleader.

"I don't want to study. I'm sad," Debra muttered, resting her arms on the table and burying her face.

"I am throwing a good party tonight. Your mood will not be pathetic anymore," Luke let out a lower tone.

Debra peered out of her head and looked at Luke.

"Where?"

"In my guest house."

"Okay, that's good news." Debra slowly sat up straight, and her face brightened.

We chuckled at her reaction.

"Please keep quiet."

We heard the librarian warn us about the rule of silence.

After a while, Abigail started talking about her outfit for tonight as we were leaving the library.

Luke turned to me and said,

"You have to come tonight."

I was stunned. "What? But you know I can't come to any parties."

"Why not? I will talk to Aunt Angela."

"No, no. She will not allow me. By the way, I don't want to go there eithe—."

Abigail interrupted our conversation and assured, "Luke, I will bring her there."

"That's my girl. We will have fun together at the party," Luke said with a smile.

"Who is coming there?" Debra asked with a curious look.

"Every important person from our university."

"You mean the power gang, too?"

"They are invited. I am not sure if they are coming."

They were talking about Ian and his friends. Everyone referred to him and his friends as a power gang because he was the future Alpha and they would be his officials.

I was quietly listening to the conversation. I was taken aback when Abigail said she would bring me there. But I knew my mother would never allow me to stay out late at night. She didn't even know that one of my friends was an Alpha boy. She always told me to stay away from Alphas.

After finishing all of my classes, I headed to the bus stop, thinking about the party.

Suddenly, my mind diverted to Ian. How furious his eyes were when I ran into him today.

I knew he was a bad boy but why did I feel so strange whenever he was around me?

When I arrived at my house, it was completely empty. It was already the afternoon.

"Why is not mom home yet?" I mumbled while unlocking my phone. I dialed my mother immediately.

“Mom, where are you?” I asked the moment she received the call.

"We have a patient that requires emergency medication. She is very old and has undergone heart surgery. I need to prescribe her.”

“Oh, I hope she’ll be fine soon. But when will you come home?"

“Well, I seized the opportunity of overtime so I will be back tomorrow morning.”

I went silent for a few seconds. My mother was a doctor, and she worked extremely hard for me. She never skipped a patient in order to make money for me.

“Mom”

“Don’t worry, Ava. I will have dinner in our hospital canteen. Just take care of yourself, and remember to always lock the main door."

“Yes, Mom.”

After talking with my mother, I went to my bedroom. I changed my clothes. I considered doing my assignments, which I needed to complete before tomorrow. I started to study.

I had no idea how quickly time flew by. I heard my phone start ringing.

I picked up my phone from my desk, which was close to the bed. I received the call without checking the caller's name.

“Hello?”

“Ava, open your door.”

I rose from my chair. “Abigail?”

"I am outside your house."

I went to our main door and saw Abigail wearing a long black coat.

"I put on a coat to hide my party dress from Aunt," she mumbled, giving me a wink.

“She is not at home.”

"What?"

She gave a dumbfounded look but then smiled. “That's great.”

“No, Abigail. Mom won't allow me.”

"Then we do not need to tell her."

I shook my head. "No. She will return home tomorrow morning. I can not take the risk."

Abigail wrapped her hand around my shoulder. "I will drop you off here before the morning. I promise. At least, think about Luke. He invited all of us. He hosted three parties this year, and you did not attend any of them."

I did not want to make Luke upset.

I thought for a moment while looking into Abigail’s pleading eyes.

I let out a sigh and nodded.

“Okay. I'm going to the party with you.”

Abigail hugged me in happiness. But then she warned me about something.

“I heard Ian and his friends are also coming, so be careful and stay away from them.”
