Noah's POV:

Eden is already at her desk when I arrive. She looks tired, like she hasn't slept well all weekend.

"Didn't sleep?" I ask, holding out the coffee to her.

She smiles gratefully as she takes it from me. "I was a bit late going to bed," she tells me.

It feels weird not knowing what she's been up to all weekend. It's frustrating too, knowing that if I ask her she probably won't tell me the truth.

"I was at my grandma's house," she says, telling me just enough that she's not lying.

"You had an all-nighter with your grandma?" I tease, pressing for more.

"God, no. She went to bed at a sensible time unlike me."

I reach out, brushing a strand of hair out of her eyes. It's hard not to touch her and I don't even think about the fact that someone could see us. Fortunately, most of my team wouldn't even consider coming to work this early.

"What were you doing up so late?" I ask softly.

I want to know more. Knowing that she's been lying to me, I feel like there's a whole side o

Knowing that Mrs Clancy is Eden's grandmother, I feel slightly nervous as I make my way towards her office for the meeting. It's something I do several times a week and yet it feels more important now, or at least important in a different way."Come on in everyone," Mrs Clancy says as she walks into her own office, removing her coat as she goes. It's odd. She's late. I don't think I've ever known her to arrive to work late. She looks almost as tired as Eden but that makes little sense. Eden said her grandma got an early night. I shake off my unease. It's not really any of my business."How was everyone's weekend?" The older woman asks and everyone exchange polite replies. For the most part they all sound disappointed to be back at work but I'm pretty sure I hear some grumbling about their good for nothing husband."How was your birthday?" Lewis Artie asks.'Suck up,' I mutter under my breath."It could have been better," she replies, "perhaps if I didn't have to work all weekend

Normally I wouldn't hesitate to tell Eden about what happened in the meeting but I'm concerned I'll only make her worry more. She's got a lot on her mind, the last thing she needs is to worry about a pending lawsuit.I hadn't considered how easily news travels around this company. Some of the assistants could gossip for Britain. At around four, just as the department is beginning to get noisier, everyone eager to go home, Eden makes her way into my office. She has a serious look on her face as she strides towards my desk. It's clear in her every movement that she is on a mission and I gulp, silently berating myself for not telling her myself."A lawsuit?" she asks, her voice shaking slightly. "So Lewis Artie wasn't just stealing ideas from our team?"If she knew that I know about her grandmother, I'd apologise for not telling her but while ever she thinks I don't know, I have no real reason to tell her. I'm hardly going to come out of a meeting and exchange all the goss with my gir

Eden's POV:I'm freaking out. Literally freaking out.It doesn't help that Noah has me sitting in his office collating documents when all I really want to do is run down to my grandma's office and demand to know what the hell is going on. Not that she'd actually tell me.When it's finally time to call it a day, Noah rushes me out the door. I'm not sure why but he seems to be in a very good mood. I feel like a bit of a downer by comparison. It's hard to be happy when I'm so worried about grandma. But I can't tell him that. I can't explain my moodiness to him and that makes me feel even worse. He takes it in his stride though. He doesn't seem at all affected by the fact that I keep giving him one word answers or that I'm barely being civil. As he drives us to the supermarket, I stay quiet, staring out the window at the passing buildings. I'm not really seeing them. He could be taking me to the middle of the countryside to ax me to death and I would be none the wiser.I jump slightl

Over the next week, I struggle knowing that my grandma is having a hard time and there's nothing I can do about it. I would love to strangle Lewis Artie but I'm not sure that would achieve anything besides landing me in prison. Just what my grandma would need... the bad press of having her only granddaughter in the slammer for attempted murder.Noah keeps reminding me that the lawyers have it in hand and that the best thing we can do is focus on the company's accounts. He is convinced that Lewis's uncle is the one responsible for the disappearing funds. I guess I should be grateful he no longer suspects my grandma but really all I feel is overwhelmed.I pop back to grandma's regularly to check on her but she's rarely at home and when I do see her, she looks exhausted. It means our work has slowed down but Noah doesn't complain about the delays. He's probably had enough of all the extra work and appreciates the break."What are you doing here?" Grandma asks as she comes into the kitc

Returning to work on Monday morning, I am impatient for the others to arrive. My heels are tapping on the floor as I power up my computer. Noah places a coffee mug on my desk before making his way into his office without saying anything. That's unlike him. He usually stops to talk to me for at least a few minutes before beginning work. My disappointment is short lived though when I see Stacey making her way into the department.Hurrying to my feet, I make my way over towards her."I need your help," I say to her as soon as I'm close enough."Good morning to you too," she says with a yawn."Sorry. Morning," I reply, falling into step beside her as she enters the team kitchen."What do you need, Eden?" she asks as she flips the switch on the kettle."I need to learn how to carve furniture.""You what?" She blinks at me, completely surprised. "How am I supposed to help with that? I just draw the furniture. Someone else makes it.""Yeah, but you have to make all those little model

Noah's POV:I don't know why I'm here. This meeting has nothing to do with me or my department. It's all about Lewis Artie and his stupid legal issues. I'm not sure why I need to be aware of any of it but apparently we all need to be in the know. Whatever that means."According to legal," Martin is telling us all, "our best bet is to offer a settlement.""Has it even been proven yet?" someone asks but I scoff at the question. "Well, it's not an unreasonable question, is it Noah?""Usually, no. But we're talking about Lewis here.""What's that supposed to mean?" Lewis retorts angrily."Only that it's not exactly like it's something you wouldn't do," I answer."I've never stolen anyone's ideas," he insists."Sure. Keep telling yourself that.""You can't prove otherwise.""Enough. I didn't call you all here for this," Mrs Clancy speaks up, clearly unimpressed. "I want you all put your teams at ease. There's no reason for them to be concerned.""But wait, Mrs Clancy, just a few

Eden's POV:Noah is up to something. I'm not sure what but he's definitely up to something. He's been intentionally having meetings with members of the team without including me. I don't mind. Not really, except he keeps pulling Rob in with him and I need to ask Rob for help with my terrible carving. When I say terrible, I don't just mean terrible. I mean the worst carving I've ever seen.My dad always prided himself on the fact that we did everything by hand but right now, I would love to get someone else to do it for me. I'm never going to do a good job of the furniture for the doll's house and Grandma is all excited about it. She wants to make a big event out of the whole thing and I don't really want to let her down.I also want to do it well for my dad. I'd like to make him proud. I've been watching tutorial videos online and everything. They make it look so easy but when I come to do it myself it's a disaster. Stacey asked Rob to help me yesterday and he'd quickly agreed but

Noah's POV:I'm pretty sure not knowing about the workshop is driving Eden crazy. She's got that frazzled look she gets when she's not in control of everything around her. It's one of the traits that makes her the best assistant I've ever had. She's always ahead of the game and so there's no doubt that my cancelling all my appointments has sent her into a spiral of confusion."We'll start straight after lunch," I say to Mr Wigney.I'm so happy to have found him at such short notice. It had seemed like a great idea when I heard that Eden needed to improve her carving skills but I didn't have the skills to help her and to be honest, even Rob's skills weren't at the level needed for a Clancy Doll House. So we'd got straight to work, trying to find an artist specialising in wooden carving. It had sounded at the time like it would be an easy task until I realised that it wasn't a medium that most artists work with any more. I'd had one or two people rant about it on the phone over the l

Noah's POV:When I manage to get through the crowd of people, I find Eden sitting at the centre. She's in a metal chair with a hot drink in her hand and she's shaking slightly. My eyes linger on her momentarily before they take in the person talking to her, or more precisely the clothes they are wearing.Eden is speaking to a police officer. What the hell happened? I move to her side quickly, before crouching down to check on her."Eden, are you okay?" I ask.She gives me a small smile and offers me a shaky hand. I take it, feeling the cold that is emanating from her skin."I'm alright," she answers but I struggle to believe her."What happened?" I demand."James…"That's all she needs to say for me to see red. "Where is he?""The police have him now," she tells me, her voice hollow like she's overwrought with emotion."Do you need to stay here?" I want to take her away from all the prying eyes. I know Eden won't be enjoying the attention she's currently getting."I don't

Noah's POV:Mrs Clancy is happily talking away about Eden. Her voice is filled with evident pride. I'm surprised that Eden's been gone this long. It's been almost half an hour and I had gotten the distinct impression that she would rush back."I wonder what's taking Eden so long," Mrs Clancy's words echo my own thoughts.Getting to my feet, I reply, "I should go find her."Mrs Clancy smiles at me as I make my way out of the room in search of her granddaughter. Just outside, I'm glance around. I'm not really sure where to look for Eden. Coffee was just Mrs Clancy's excuse to get Eden out of the room. All so she could ambush me with questions. Questions I would have answered even if Eden had been in the room. The nurses are sitting at their desk, chatting away happily and there are several patients wandering about, but there's no sign of Eden. I pull my phone out of my pocket and call her. It's not like I can search the entire hospital, although I will if I have to. Even if it does

Eden's POV:I'm pretty sure grandma shouldn't be having caffeine so I forgo the coffee and just wander around instead. I tell myself that I'll give them ten minutes – exactly ten minutes – and then I'll head back.I hope Noah knows what he's getting himself into. Grandma is sneaky and she knows exactly how to dig for information. She'll have a wedding date, the number of kids he wants and the names and numbers of his immediate family members all within that ten minutes I'm giving them.Any longer and she'll wrangle every secret he's ever kept out of him.I'm not sure where to go so I head towards the exit, thinking that I'll get a little air. My mind immediately returns to the events of the previous day. It had taken ages to explain everything to the police. They'd have what felt like hundreds of questions. They have more, of course. They want witness statements from all of us. I guess, that's what I'll be doing tomorrow in between trying to fix the mess that James and Lewis have

I should have gotten up hours ago.I don't have time to waste. In a daze, I change my clothes and give myself a quick wash in the bathroom attached to my bedroom. I need to know what the hell is going on. Hurrying out of my bedroom, I'm surprised to find Noah in my little kitchen. He's bare foot and making breakfast."Morning," he says with a wide smile.I really love the sight of him here like this. Its not the first time I've seen him in my home in the morning but it feels special somehow. Every morning with him feels special. He tells me to sit down at the table and I only waver for a second as I wonder where my phone is. He must see my hesitation because he hands me my phone, unplugging it from the charger that is on the counter."Your battery was low," he tells me gently, as he drops a kiss to my head and places a cup of tea on the table in f

While I wait for the police to arrive, I hurriedly search through Alice's computer for anything about Luxen. "Where's Lewis?""With Martin. What do you mean the police are coming?""I heard James… He's leaving. He's running away. Eden's POV:I'm moving on autopilot, surviving on adrenaline alone. Several minutes ago when I heard James Artie leave his office with his assistant, I had let out a sigh of relief. I couldn't believe I'd managed to remain hidden.I'd tiptoed down the corridor until I found myself staring right at Noah.My pulse had skyrocketed as I stared at him and I hadn't been able to stop the wide smile that covered my face. As awful as it was to hear James' callous words about my parents' death, I felt like I was finally able to breathe again after the longest time.I knew for sure who killed my parents.Knowing that James Artie is responsible for all the pain I've felt, that my grandma has felt in the last ten years, knowing that he is the enemy I've been trying to beat in the last few months, gave me the fire to win. That need to put him behind bars is what pushes me back in the direction of his office. I know that he's gone back to his apartment to pack his stuff. I heard him tell Alice

Noah's POV:When Eden doesn't hurry back from the loos, I don't immediately panic. It's understandable that she might need a few minutes alone after everything that we've discussed today. It feels like every day we learn something new that has the power to destroy her and yet she faces it with a strength that is beyond belief.I'm in awe of her.I don't think I've have handled all this anywhere near as well as she has if it were my parents that were murdered. In fact, I know that I wouldn't. And it's not because I'm a weak man, but rather because she is something else entirely. She has a quiet resilience, a fire that keeps her moving towards her goal, though I'm not completely sure what that is.Is she trying to save the company or discover her parents' murderer? It's hard to say and I don't think it really matters either way. One will no doubt lead to the other and vice versa.Ten minutes turn to twenty and twenty soon becomes thirty. "Just how much did you tell her?" Lewis shouts as he enters the room. I'm not sure who he is talking to. Perhaps his uncle?"Lewis, shut up," James retorts angrily as the door slams shut behind them. "You know full well that Eden Clancy is in the building. The last thing we need is for her to overhear you.""It's not me that told her…""No. But it is you that got caught stealing intellectual property not just once but countless times. So stop shouting at Alice.""She told…""No. She didn't. From what Alice is saying, it was actually your assistant that gave Eden the details of your indiscretion.""My indiscretion? It was your idea! I never even wanted this job and now thanks to you, Uncle James, I'm probably going to end up in prison.""Don't be such a big baby and shut the hell up. After lunch we return to the company. I'm a little distracted and not really paying attention to what the guys are saying. And not because we just had a run in with Mason. That whole conversation is like a nonentity. It seems irrelevant compared to everything else that has been happening recently."Eden what do you think?" Noah asks, pulling me from my thoughts.I stand still and blink up at them both. I haven't got a clue what they want to know. What do I think about what?"Er… I'm not sure. I'm going to go to the loo."They nod before returning to their conversation. Leaving the office, I make my way across the lobby and down one corridor, heading in the direction of the toilets. The idea that my grandma has known about my parents' murder for years and has done nothing about it is really bothering me. I just can't grapple with it. It doesn't make sense. Even if she wanted to protect me, she wouldn't just allow someone to get away with killing my parents. Would she?Surely, she
