When I woke up the next morning, I found myself alone in bed. Steven was no longer lying beside me. I tried to wait for him last night, but the constant stream of tears made me fall asleep. As I opened my eyes, a sharp pain shot through my swollen eyelids. The room was pitch-black, and the silence was so overwhelming that it felt like it was suffocating me. I could feel the heaviness of the curtains that blocked out the sunlight and kept the room in darkness. The stillness of the air made it feel like time had stopped. I wanted to go back to sleep, but the smell of stale air mixed with the faint scent of Steven’s aftershave made me long for his presence.
