“Maxine,” Steven called out in a throaty voice. “Have you forgotten the rule I imposed on this city?”

Maxine appeared frightened by what Steven had said, which reminded me of Missus Turner’s warning, not to mention Matteo’s name. Her face turned pale, indicating her fear. She took a step back and glared at me with anger, although she seemed to be trying to restrain herself.

“Neither of you should remain in this building any longer. You both need to leave now!”

Summer’s Point of ViewAs Steven’s image materialized before me, a sudden chill swept over me, causing my stomach to knot up. The sight before me was gruesome - blood was splattered all over the floor and someone lay motionless in the midst of it all. Without a moment’s hesitation, Stefani dashed towards the person and I followed suit, trying my best to keep my balance as I ran.“S-Steven!” I cried out. “C-call an ambulance!”I held him on my lap while scanning the area for Brandon, who was frantically speaking on his phone. I couldn’t decide who to prioritize first between Stefani and Steven. In the midst of my confusion, Celine unexpectedly appeared.“Summer!” She came running towards us and picked up Stefani in her arms. “Aunty’s here. He is expected to announce his successor and reveal who will assume his power.][Steven Carter, the young and successful businessman, is currently in a coma after being shot by his childhood friend, who was suspected to be his mistress.]After hearing that, I switched off the TV and headed to the bathroom. I submerged myself in the bathtub until my mind calmed down, all the while gazing at my clean hands. These very hands were the ones that had tried to stop the bleeding in Steven’s chest. Yet, despite their cleanliness, an overwhelming sense of terror persisted, as if the blood still lingered. In a state of daze, my room unexpectedly opened without a knock. As I stared at the person who had entered, tears welled up in my eyes and I found myself unable to hold back the sobs that escaped me. The hands I was fixated on became blurred by the stream of tears.“M

Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?” the bailiff said.“I do.”Calvin’s deliberate footsteps echoed through the room as he made his way to the front, causing my breath to hitch in my throat. The expressions on Mr. Klein and Amby’s faces revealed their surprise, and I could see Calvin’s father whispering to the lawyer. Their eyes shifted towards me, but I casually shrugged it off, my gaze fixed ahead. Uncertainty lingered, unsure if this man would also betray what he had witnessed. As his gaze fixed upon me, his voice resonated through the room. “Mister Carter is my father’s esteemed business partner,” he began, the sound of his words

They were overjoyed to hear it, as they had faith in my abilities but doubted the people of New York City. Harvey offered to lend a hand, but I didn’t want to involve him any further in my troubles. I was simply grateful to have them by my side throughout the trial.Having already visited the hospital, we were surprised to find Calvin there. It amazed me, as I had thought he wouldn’t want to see me again after what had happened. However, as he noticed me approaching, he closed the distance between us.“Once again, I sincerely apologize for what happened, Mrs. Carter. I am here to personally extend my apologies on behalf of my father, as supporting Amby feels like a betrayal towards Mr. Carter as well,” he said and bowed his head.I smiled and shook my head. “No, I should be the one thanking you for what you did. Summer’s Point of ViewI collapsed to the ground, my entire body trembling uncontrollably. As I glanced upwards, I saw a tall, white man peering down at me. He had a distinctive scar on his left eyebrow, but there was no denying his elegance and the air of wealth that surrounded him. Despite wearing a gray jacket, black pants, and white rubber shoes, he wasn’t appearing to be just an ordinary passerby. With my demeanor still not calming, I slowly crawled back and nearly gasped as he squatted down to match our heights. And then he asked, “Are you okay?”I resisted the urge to reply, my attention now fixated on his countenance. The longer my gaze lingered, the stronger the sensation of familiarity washed over me, like a distant echo resurfacing. After a minute of gazing at him, he let out a sigh, followed by a chuckle. “Listen, Miss. You know how concerned he is about you, especially after what happened. Luckily, he has his nurse by his side because when he found out you were shot, he had another heart attack.”He remained quiet, yet his grip on my waist remained firm as his mind began to wander. “What about Amby?” he finally asked.I shifted my gaze to the side, my eyes fixated on the dark sky adorned with shimmering stars.
