“Maxine,” Steven called out in a throaty voice. “Have you forgotten the rule I imposed on this city?”

Maxine appeared frightened by what Steven had said, which reminded me of Missus Turner’s warning, not to mention Matteo’s name. Her face turned pale, indicating her fear. She took a step back and glared at me with anger, although she seemed to be trying to restrain herself.

“Neither of you should remain in this building any longer. You both need to leave now!”

“But Steven—”

“Amby, don’t force me to call the authorities and have them remove you. I explicitly asked you to avoid causing chaos, yet you continue to test my patience.” With a tight jaw and a piercing stare, he expressed his resentment towards them. “Leave!”

As Steven’s voice reverberated through the cavernous walls, Amby and Maxine instinctively shrank back, their bodies tensing with unease. His words seemed to shake the very foundation of the room, causing them to hastily retreat, their footsteps echo
