AUTHORS POV

GAVIN GLANCED AT ETHAN who was glaring at him. He frowned at him. Some minutes ago, he received a concerning call from Avery that Ethan got into a fight with some kid who said he abuses Sydney

He had told Ethan his daddy, who worked in Gavin's company, told his mommy he saw Sydney swollen-faced and crying in the elevator after storming out of Gavin's office. Ethan got so angry and charged for him madly.

Emily gasped excitedly when she saw Gavin. She peeled off Sydney's arm and ran to him. Gavin smiled with one corner of his lips raised and crouched to catch Emily.

Giggling, she wrapped her arm around his neck and kissed his cheek, causing him to laugh. "I missed you." She admitted.

He kissed her back, " I missed you too honey." He looked at Ethan and his smile slowly fell. " You too son."

Ethan scoffed loudly. Sydney, who couldn't muster the courage to look at Gavin, spoke before Ethan could, " Ethan, go take a shower." She smiled nervously.

Ethan ignored her and walked t

AUTHORS POV" I was so glad when my husband contacted AIDs. He returned home begging for my forgiveness; I barked a hard laugh right in his face and threw him out," Angelica shared her story, causing all the women sitting under the gazebo on Theresa's patio to laugh. Theresa had asked Sydney in front of the women to join them for evening tea. Sydney couldn't let these women think she was a coward because of a man, so she accepted. She made sure to sit a good number of seats away from Theresa to show her displeasure. They had been gossiping about celebrities when Sydney joined in and they diverged wickedly to failed marriages."I wouldn't blame your husband, though, " Veronica hid her disdainful smirk behind the mug of coffee she had in her mouth. "Samantha is one fine speck of a woman."Samantha, who sat next to Theresa, gritted her teeth and forced a fake smile. SYDNEY STOOD BY THE KITCHEN window with a wearisome look while gazing at the sprinklers that went off in the garden. It reminded her of her mother. She recalled the days when Ashley would stand by the garden back in Arizona with a watering can in her grip as she watered the flowers. She missed her mother; she had been having nightmares of Ashley in a large gray box, lying next to Xavier. She thought about taking Ethan and Emily to Arizona and not returning, but Ashley's last message made her rethink.Avery poured tomato soup into the saucer. She walked to Sydney and placed a hand on her shoulder. " What's wrong, you haven't said anything since I got here?"What was there to say? Sydney shrugged nonchalantly, and they both went to the dining room. Sydney slipped into a seat next to Sofia. She had been a frequent and helpful visitor- to Avery's disposal.Avery looked at Sofia with contempt. " Um, Sofia darling?"Sofia looked up from the book she was reading. She smiled questi

" Please don't get on his nerves."*** Sydney stared at herself in the mirror, a faint smile across her face. Her fingers grazed her semi-flat stomach. The red chiffon dress with a slit by the side reaching mid-thigh hugged her curvy frame. She felt like a kid again. Except, now, she was hollow and messed up inside. She remembered prom night. She remembered how much she and Gavin had been in love. That night, he had told her he loved her for

Avery, listen, I have to go now."He slid the phone into his pants pocket and sighed. When he turned around, he met the mortified gaze of Sydney. His brows furrowed as he asked, " Syd... What are you doing here?"She stared up at him with anguish. What made her heart ache more was that she couldn't make out a single emotion in his eyes. In a calm tone, she inquired. Yes Sydney, I'm going to let them know-"She cut in, angry tears brewing in her eyes, " And you didn't feel the need to tell me."His lips curled into a sneer, " So you'd beat me to it. THE LADIES SEEMED TO have also noticed the extremely handsome lumberjack talking with Alfred since they sat straight, protruded their boobs, and straightened their hair charmingly. Theresa noticed Sydney's apprehension and held her shoulder. Her eyes read concern. " Are you okay?"Sydney's mouth hung open, and after some seconds, she was able to reply. " Uh... Um, yeah. " She chuckled nervously. Gabriel's eyes began to trail over the patio. Sydney noticed it and grabbed the magazine Veronica was pretending to read and quickly covered her face." What the butt! Give me my magazine, I was reading that." Veronica grumbled, dragging attention toward them." Please, just a minute." Sydney pleaded hoping she could disappear. What if he told the ladies he was the guy she 'kissed'? They wouldn't hesitate to tell the press about it. What would everyone say? AUTHOR'S POV Sydney's mommy instincts kicked in. '" Wha... What do you mean Avery? How did that happen?" she asked Avery, her voice rising. " Calm down, Syd; Ethan is in the school Nurse's office. He's fine now," Avery assured. Sydney was still restive. " Avery, that wasn't the question I asked; why would some kid beat him up? Weren't there teachers who could have stopped him?" " Syd, listen. First of all, it was Ethan that started the fight and second, the fight had already started when the teachers got there." Sydney looked confused. She asked incredulously, " Why would Ethan fight with someone six years older than him?" " He looked really angry when Gavin dropped him off earlier, Emily was crying. I don't know what Gavin told them but I think that's what provoked Ethan into starting the fight." Sydney leaned on the wall and ran a hand through her hair. Did Gavin tell them about the divorce? How couldn't she have thought of this earlier?! Avery spoke quickly now, " I

The only time Gavin had gone to Montana Hotel was when he needed time alone with Sydney. She paid the driver and walked into the hotel. Her heart wanted to split and burst. She had just wanted to look at the sea with a smile on her face and no care in the world before Gavin called. She wondered why she answered his call so quickly. There was something wrong somewhere, she felt it. It was like he was going to be wiped out of existence if she didn't take his call. She had a dream the previous night. Gavin was sitting on a wooden bench in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mists. A phone was held to his ear. He was shaking. Saying something about Ethan. " Why don't you sing a Christmas song for us, ehn friend?"Gabriel clutched the knife he used to cut into his turkey a little bit tighter. Gil had been getting on his nerves since he served Dinner and sat a couple distance away from him. " Oh, I forgot, you mix auto with tenor and soprano with bass." Gil chuckled on the glass of water placed in his mouth. " We don't want your bad voice ruining Christmas Eve."Sofia intervened quickly. She grabbed Gil's face in her palm and made him look at her " Why are you being such an a**hole? Stop it. "Gil didn't look at her. His eyes were fixated on Gabriel's angry ones. They looked like they were ready to jump on each other. No one spoke again. There was a foul aura around the dinette. It was like everyone had beef with each other except Gil and Sofia. " It's sweet of Gabriel to cook up the meals. " Sofia remarked as she lay on a chaise lounge watching Gabriel cook. She moaned at the aroma of the turkey. It was freezing on the yacht, but Sofia and Sydney couldn't care less. They didn't want to miss the serene views of birds flying across the waters, waves crashing, and whatnot. Sydney hadn't felt any sense of relaxation since Gabriel professed his affection for her. She wanted to believe it was some sort of joke or dream. He must have been feeling lonely and needed a shoulder to lean on, and Sydney was there for him. Maybe that's why he confused their friendship for love. The heart is a tool the devil uses to ruin people's life. Ruin friendships. Ruin good relationships. She reckoned. The only source of relaxation she found was when she stepped into Blake's yacht. It was a good thing she'd accepted his offer. Ethan and Emily would love it here. She would have loved to bring them, but Gavin called and said he wanted them

AUTHOR'S POV " Your check is on the dining room table, pick it up when you are done. And don't you dare go into my wife's room; I don't want you looking through her closet." Sherwin Peters said disdainfully to Gil before picking up a coat and leaving. Gil sent two middle fingers to his back and growled, " Open your eyes, a**hole; your wife is cheating on you with a seventy-two-year-old horse rider." Gil sighed when he realized he was talking to himself. He raked his fingers through his hair and looked at the broken fence through the kitchen window. " I need to get myself a real job. Joseph would also have if he existed in the 21st century." He laughed at himself. He was a worthless piece of shit. He thought. He couldn't even hold one woman he'd like— lust for. " Don't think of her, Gil, she must be having an orgasm for that b**tard she was holding hands with. What man even paints his fingernails? He must have a really small— shut up Gil, that's enough." WHEN SYDNEY'S RETURNED, the house was silent. Gabriel's bike wasn't parked outside, so she wasn't sure he had returned yet. She hoped he was fine. Sydney was tired. Exhausted. Despite how much she didn't want Gavin to know where she lived, he still found out. There was no cab in sight, Sydney's legs were boneless from the roller coaster ride and Gavin offered her a ride she couldn't resist. Gavin was impressed with Gabriel's home. It fitted a psychotic hoi pol-loi like him. Despite being tired, Sydney read Ethan and Emily to sleep. When they fell asleep, she kissed their forehead and released a shudder. Hugging herself, she walked out of the room. It was like the temperature dropped every second. Sydney heard sounds coming from the television. With the hopes of seeing Gabriel in the living room, she went there but saw no one. The living room smelt like a turkey sandwich and tea. " Strange." She mouthed and turned off the television. Maybe he'd watched a movie and gone to bed.

The park was noisy, especially at night. As Christmas drew near, many people began to go out and get themselves into some recreative activities to kill off the tension the year had held.Businesses have been slow-paced since the beginning of December since most employees have been given a break from work to enjoy the holidays. The stars bathed the blanket of skies, the moon was full, the snow was falling, the air was chill, and the roller coaster was in full swing. Sydney's stomach was churning. It was a decoration of twisted spasms of knots. The night made her sick to the stomach because it held the most romantic view she'd ever seen. She stared at the rollercoaster and listened to the screams of fear and euphoria. She remembered riding on the roller coaster. She remembered twelve years ago.At the top, body pressed against Gavin's in fear. His hands wrapped around her protectively. The words he whispered in her ear. Sweet words. THE WOODEN FLOOR BOARD covering the whole floors of Gabriel's quaint house creaked as Gabriel walked down the small hallway. His jaw was tight. Fist clenched. Veins tight. Heart constricted. He heard the rush of girly excitement coming from the room he'd given to Ethan and Emily. He heard the groaning of Ethan telling her to keep quiet but she didn't. She was very happy. Gabriel heard her say she was excited for mommy to see daddy. Gabriel's breathing was uneven. Jaw tighter. Fists clenching and unclenching. Veins threatening to burst out of his skin. Heart tight like it was surrounded by pressing wires. He didn't stop by their room to ask them what they meant instead, he walked to the room Sydney stayed. The door was slightly open. He looked through it. She was in her underwear, her body wet, her towel lying carelessly on the edge of the bed. She was searching through the wooden chifforobe for clothes. She was immortally beautiful. She looked like an Egyptian goddess.
