The moderate-sized room held an air of gloom. The whole place felt so different as if she had just found herself there for the first time. The bed served as a cruel reminder of her true reality.

Delaney tossed restlessly on the bed, trying so hard to force herself to sleep, but sleep eluded her as Adonis's words kept replaying in her head, "I have fallen helplessly in love with you, Delaney."

'Oh, God!' frustration surged through her as she tried to shake off the nagging suggestions her heart kept coming up with.

She glanced at the window, and the evening sun cast its warm glow into the room, adding to her restlessness. It was almost time.

It's been barely two hours since she came back from his mansion, but she's been unable to shake his thoughts off her mind.

Her heart ached each time she remembered how unhappy he looked when it was time for her to leave. His eyes bore a hint of sadness as they peered into the depths of her eyes as if trying to speak to her soul.

Kaiden sang along with the sound buzzing from his home theatre as he knotted his tie in front of the mirror, completely aware of what day it was. It was a Monday! A beautiful Monday morning. The large bedroom was a little messy, but who cares? It'll be taken care of by the appropriate person. He had been called upon by his chef, who alerted him to come down for breakfast, but that wasn't going to be necessary as he was running late for work already. Or, maybe he was just too excited to eat. Kaiden always dreaded Mondays so much, but today was different. 'Who knows?' Perhaps he was expecting a promotion at work today if fate allowed it. "A promotion..." He chuckled. He wondered what it'd feel like. It's something he'd never experienced before because, of course, he knew who he was.Today held a lot of positive promises. Maybe Blaine was just trying to play mind games on her."What are you talking about, Blaine?" She cleared her throat and steadied her voice. Although her eyes almost betrayed her emotions, but she firmly masked her nervousness."Answer the damn question, Delaney!" he snapped at her, trying so hard to maintain a grip on his emotions."I was home all weekend, Blaine!" She half-yelled, but a thousand thoughts ran through her mind. She was very certain he'd attended the conference. And there was no way he could know she wasn't home during the weekend. She decided to stand firm on her lies."You sure about that?" A smirk played on his lips."What the hell are you talking about?" she was losing her patience and sanity."I had asked Tom to come check on you three times, Delaney. He met nobody when he arrived. But you said you were home all weekend. So how do you explain t

Delaney hesitated to answer the call when Kaiden had called, but now she was glad she did. He found a way to make her smile after all the drama that had ensued.“He texted me some minutes ago. Adonis must have forgotten that we are birds of the same feathers,” he chucked darkly.“For my sake, Kaiden, just let him be. Pay no attention to him. I’ll talk to him about our trip when he’s calm. Okay?” She pleaded. “I am sorry this had to happen. It’s all because of me.” Sadness laced her voice.Delaney had been blaming everything on herself. His heart raced, consumed by a potent mix of jealousy, rage, and possessiveness.Every muscle in Adonis’s body tensed up. "I need to make a call... Let me have my phone, please." Delaney, in her drunk state, said to Kaiden, who prevented her from taking her phone. Delaney, who was usually so composed and assured, was a different person tonight. The alcohol, which she had taken to calm her nerves, had taken a greater hold on her than she'd expected. It had loosened her inhibitions, causing a vulnerability to shine through that Kaiden had never seen before. Her emotions were raw and at the surface."You can call him tomorrow, Delaney. You are in no state to make calls at the moment." He said, concern etched on his face.He instantly regretted letting her have that much to drink. The room was dim and heavy with the sad smell of air that hadn't been refreshed and sheets that hadn't been cleaned. The curtains were only partly open, trying to block out the brightness of the world and making the room look slightly bluish. There were empty containers of food and crumpled tissues scattered on the floor. In the middle of the room, under a messy blanket, Blaine lay almost lifeless. He looked nothing like the man he used to be. The thought of Delaney hunted him.A sharp knock on the door jolted him out of his reverie. His heartbeat quickened. Was it Delaney? He hurried downstairs like his life depended on it and opened the door without hesitation. His heart sank when he laid his eyes on the figure in front of him."Mum? What are you doing here?" "He did this to me, even when he knows all I've been through at the hands of that lady and her mother.""What do you mean, Delaney?" Adonis got interested in the conversation.
