Chapter 168: Brian’s Plea

“Wait, officer. You must be mistaken. My husband wouldn’t -” Riley paused. A frown formed on her face as she clarified, “Hold on. Which husband?”

“Well, lady, how many husbands do you have?” The officer inquired on the other line.

Rolling her eyes, Riley answered, “Are you referring to my ex-husband? Brian Martin?”

“He is your ex-husband?” The police reconfirmed. “He said you are his wife and his emergency contact.”

When Riley only let out a sigh of irritation, the police reported, “We needed someone to help process his bail, but I guess he can stay in jail.”

“Wait.” Riley paused. She thought about what Zia had said. She might regret it, but she figured she could speak to Brian one last time. Riley said, “I don’t know about bail, but I’ll be there.”

She called Adrian and informed him of her plans. Naturally, he was mad, but Riley was determined to end Brian’s madness. She hoped that by talking to him again, he would remember all the reasons to stay away from her life.
