~Three Years Later~

"Mommy, do we have to leave now?" The little boy beside me whined, his bottom lip protruding in a pout, his blue eyes shimmering with unshed tears. He turned to look back at our apartment one last time, his gaze heavy with the weight of his sadness.

I crouched to his level, brushing a soft curl from his forehead. “Jace, sweetheart,” I murmured, cupping his small face in my hands. “We’re not leaving forever. We’re just going on a trip, okay? Mommy has something important to do in New York.”

His tiny fingers clutched the hem of my coat. “But I don’t want to go. I like it here.”

I sighed, my heart squeezing. “I know, baby. But I promise, we’ll come back soon.”

He sniffled, but nodded reluctantly. I pressed a kiss to his forehead before standing and taking his hand. “Come on, our flight won’t wait for us.”

As we climbed into the sleek black car waiting outside, my phone rang. The name flashing on the screen made me smile. “Hey, Vera.”

“Hey, boss lady,” she teased, the familiar warmth in her voice soothing. “Ready for your grand return?”

I scoffed, adjusting my son’s seatbelt before sliding in beside him. “It’s not a ‘grand return.’ It’s just a business trip.”

Vera snorted. “Oh, please. You’re launching one of the biggest perfume brands in the world, in the same city you once ran from. And don’t tell me it’s not fate that your first flagship store happens to be in New York.”

I rolled my eyes. “Fate or not, I’m not looking back. That part of my life is over.”

She was quiet for a moment before sighing. “I know. Just be careful, okay? The past has a nasty habit of sneaking up when you least expect it.”

“I will,” I promised. “And I’ll see you when I get back?”

“You bet. Maybe I’ll even fly out to New York and crash your party.”

I chuckled. “I’d like that.”

As the driver pulled away from the house, I glanced at Jace, who was already dozing off against his car seat. My heart clenched as I watched him. He was my everything, the reason I survived, the reason I fought so hard.

Three years ago, I left New York a broken woman. Now, I was returning as Juliet Ryder, CEO of Jace Perfumes, one of the wealthiest self-made women in the world.

I had no intention of looking back.

——

The grand opening of Jace Perfumes was held in a luxurious venue in the heart of Manhattan, a towering glass building illuminated with golden lights. The event was a spectacle, socialites, industry leaders, and media personnel filled the space, sipping champagne and admiring the exclusive launch collection displayed in elegant glass cases.

Despite being the mastermind behind it all, no one knew me.

I had built my company quietly, letting the brand speak for itself rather than seeking personal recognition. It was safer that way. There were too many people from my past I wanted to avoid.

Dressed in an off-shoulder emerald gown that hugged my curves, my once untamed black hair now styled in soft waves, I looked every bit the powerful businesswoman the world whispered about. But to them, I was just another guest, an outsider admiring the empire they thought belonged to someone else.

I was fine with that, I had until the grand announcement to introduce myself to them.

With a glass of wine in hand, I made my way toward the balcony, seeking a moment of solitude. But before I could step outside, a familiar voice sliced through the air, sending a chill down my spine.

Laughter. Carefree, taunting.

My grip on the glass tightened as I turned, and there she was, Raya.

She stood a few feet away, laughing with another woman, her manicured fingers delicately holding a champagne flute. She looked exactly the same—Cherry red hair cascading over her shoulders, expensive designer dress clinging to her frame, a smile that masked the venom beneath.

And then her gaze landed on me.

The laughter died on her lips. For a moment, her face was frozen in shock, as if she were seeing a ghost. Then, her expression twisted into one of pure hatred. She took a step forward, eyes burning with disbelief.

“Juliet?” Raya mumbled her eyes widened slowly. “What are you doing here?”

The guest turned their gazes towards me, curious to know what the ruckus was about.

I met her gaze evenly, refusing to shrink under her scrutiny. “I wasn’t aware I needed your permission to exist.”

Her lips curled into a sneer. “Three years, Juliet. Three years of blissful silence, and now you decide to crawl back? What, did you get tired of hiding?”

The woman beside her smirked, whispering something into Raya’s ear that made her snicker. I ignored it, taking a slow sip of my wine, my expression unreadable. “I didn’t come here for you.”

Raya scoffed. “Of course you did. You always did like making a spectacle of yourself.”

The murmurs around us swelled, an ocean of speculation and hushed voices. Eyes darted between me and Raya, their curiosity sharpening the air. I knew exactly where this was going, and I refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing me crumble.

Raya took another step closer. "You must have some nerve showing up here," she said, her voice laced with venom. "I mean, look at you, all dressed up like you belong." Her eyes raked over my emerald gown, a mocking smirk curling her lips. "Let me guess, some rich guy took pity on you? Is that how you got in? Or did you just steal the dress and sneak past security?"

A ripple of laughter spread through the crowd. The weight of their gazes pressed against me, but I kept my chin high, meeting her eyes with an unwavering stare.

"Watch your mouth, Raya," I said, my voice smooth but laced with warning. "You have no idea who you're talking to."

She scoffed, shaking her head. "Oh, but I do. I know exactly who you are. A nobody. A washed-up rejected wife, who ran away with her tail between her legs. What, did you think coming back in a fancy dress would change anything?" Her lips curled cruelly. "Pathetic."

I took a slow sip of my wine, unbothered. "Funny," I mused, tilting my head. "If I'm so insignificant, why are you so bothered by my presence?"

Raya's eyes darkened, her grip on the glass tightening. The woman beside her snickered again, whispering something that made Raya's lips twitch with amusement. "You should be grateful I’m even talking to you. You don’t belong here, Juliet." She sneered, tilting her head. "No amount of stolen designer dresses and fake confidence will change that."

A hush fell over the crowd as a voice, sharp and poised, cut through the air.

"What is going on here?"

With Edward distracted, I gently slipped my hand off his wrist and lowered myself to my son's level as he wrapped his small arms around me. His warmth grounded me, even as my pulse raced."My love, he is..." I hesitated for a moment, my eyes flicking up to Edward before settling back on my son. "He is a guest that was invited to Mummy's party."Jace tilted his head, his bright eyes scanning Edward with curiosity. Before he could ask anything else, Edward's sharp inhale broke the moment."You have a son?" he breathed, his voice tight with disbelief.I slowly stood up, instinctively taking Jace’s hand in mine, as if shielding him from the storm brewing in Edward’s eyes. "Yes," I murmured, keeping my tone even.Edward stood frozen, his gaze darting between me and Jace. The resemblance was undeniable, and I saw the exact moment the realization struck him. His eyes darkened, lips slightly parted as if words failed him. He looked like a man who had just been blindsided by a truth he hadn’t

•Edward POV•I stood in the midst of the cheering crowd, my hands clenching into fists as applause thundered through the grand hall. My gaze followed Juliet as she gracefully walked off the stage, her presence commanding respect, admiration—everything I once believed she could never achieve. This can’t be real. How did she become so successful?Memories of the past clawed their way into my mind, unbidden and relentless. I remembered the day she handed me the divorce papers. She had nothing then, no wealth, no status, no prospects. Just a woman with a suitcase, stepping into a battered old cab, vanishing from my life like a whisper in the wind. And now? Now, she was standing on that stage, being celebrated as a CEO. The thought sliced through me like a blade, sharper than I cared to admit.I watched her, hoping she would glance my way, acknowledge me, even if only for a second. But she didn’t. Her focus was solely on the little boy at her side, his laughter ringing through the air like

•Juliet POV•“Mummy, why was that man following us everywhere?” Jace asked as I placed him on the chair and pulled it close to the table so he could reach the cake that had already been diced.I hesitated for a moment, carefully choosing my words. “Because, baby, Mummy used to know him. And he wasn’t nice to Mummy.” I picked up a small cube of cake and handed it to him. He took it from my fingers with his mouth, flashing me a cheeky smile that made my heart swell despite the heaviness in my chest.“Is he like Eric Lawson?” Jace’s blue eyes widened with curiosity, his little fingers clutching another piece of cake.I wiggled a finger at him, considering the comparison. Jace didn’t like Eric because he was strict in following my orders, but Edward—Edward was another level of bad altogether. “No, baby. This guy is way worse. Eric isn’t a bad person.”Jace pouted as he chewed. “Okay, Mummy.”Before I could say anything else, Eric’s voice cut through the soft music playing in the backgroun

•Edward's POV•I didn’t realize when I changed direction from heading home to pulling up at a bar, one of the places I usually found myself in whenever I struggled with my feelings for Raya and tried to ignore Juliet’s pestering behavior. But now, it felt as if I had made the biggest mistake of my life by not loving Juliet first. I needed to clear my mind, and I could really use some loud music and liquor. With a sharp exhale, I shut off the engine and pushed open the car door, stepping out into the dimly lit street. The neon sign above the bar flickered, casting an eerie glow against the damp pavement. The muffled sound of music and laughter seeped through the wooden doors, a stark contrast to the storm brewing inside me.I shoved my hands into my pockets and walked in.As expected, the place had the same worn-out feel, booming music, the stale scent of liquor mixed with cigarette smoke, and a handful of patrons hunched over their drinks, lost in their own miseries. It was almost com

•Edward's POV•“Welcome home, baby,” she murmured seductively, moving her hand slowly around her hips, trailing her finger along the edge of her nightie and shifting it just enough to give me a premium view of her naked body. “I’ve been waiting for you, sweetheart.”I walked toward her, masking my lack of interest with a smile. She jumped up from the bed and did what she usually did to get me in the mood. I allowed her lips to brush against mine, expecting the usual instant arousal, but it wasn’t forthcoming.Raya, oblivious to my mood, continued her seduction. She rubbed her hand over my shoulder, slowly removing my suit jacket, then my tie. Normally, I’d pick her up, push her back against the wall, lift her thighs until they were wrapped around my waist, but instead, I just stood there, letting her do whatever she thought she was doing.“Eddy, what’s wrong?” she asked, caressing me and placing soft kisses on my neck. “You’re still very soft,” she added, stating the obvious.I gently

I’ve heard about your admiration for my designs," I said, holding the phone between my ear and shoulder as I reached out to button Jace’s shirt. “I don’t think partnership is something we should be discussing over the phone. If you want us to talk further, reach out to Eric.”With that, I pulled the phone away from my ear and tossed it on the couch before going back to finish buttoning Jace’s shirt and adjusting it a little.“Now, that’s my little scholar,” I chuckled softly, gazing at his face, only for my smile to deflate immediately when I noticed his lack of interest. “What’s wrong, honey?”“I don’t want to go,” he pouted, shaking his head. “If we’re still going to London, why do I have to go to another school?”I sighed, guilt crawling up my spine. How was I supposed to explain to Jace that I lied to him? That I might not be going back to London until he’s twelve, or maybe never?“I understand, baby,” I said, ruffling his hair gently. “Mummy sa

The urge to send them away prickled my nerves. I bit my lips in an attempt to subdue the rising tension and turned toward Eric, only to find him already deep in conversation with Raya.“I don’t think I have to discuss my company’s affairs with you, Mrs. Ryder,” I said through clenched teeth, making it crystal clear that I no longer regarded her as my mother. She scoffed with an eye roll, and I was sure she noticed the stares Nora was giving her. “You’re now successful, and you no longer remember respect,” she said, her voice raised. Also, there should be a slight raise in price.”“That’s a great idea, Jerry,” I nodded, turning back to the projected figures on the screen.“And the fragrance should be different,” Dora, Jerry’s PA, added.I shifted my attention to her. “The fragrance has always been unique, Dora, but sure, we can go over some new scents once the samples arrive.”A sudden creaking sound distracted me, and I turned toward the door. •Edward POV•I sat in the car, staring at the building in front of me. The engine was off, and silence filled the cabin as I glanced down at my phone to confirm the address one more time before stepping out.The school loomed ahead, modern and massive, with sleek glass panels, whitewashed walls, and colorful murals painted along the sides. A large banner fluttered gently above the entrance that read Welcome Back, Little Stars! The laughter of children echoed across the open grounds, some tugging their backpacks while others ran into their parents’ arms."Cool," I muttered under my breath, taking in the sheer size of the place. The damn school looked more like a mini college campus than a preschool.I started walking toward the front entrance, my hands stuffed in the pockets of my jacket, scanning the crowd. I had no clue where Jace would be or what class he was in."Why do I keep listening to Josh?" I groaned through clenched teeth. That idiot sent me a location pin with zero detail.

I had poured time, energy, and resources into it. Yet, the gut feeling that something was wrong wouldn’t let me rest, so I decided to have a full report pulled. And there it was, staring right back at me like a slap in the face.“Why are the order numbers dropping every day?” I demanded, my tone sharper now as I slid the file back across the table toward he
