OLIVIA

“Oh look who the cat dragged in,” I said and walked towards him with mixed feelings. I wasn’t sure if he had come to see me or if my mind was playing tricks on me.

I caught a glimpse of the blue hospital walls and white floors, inhaled the smell of disinfectant, and felt the lingering sense of loss that seemed to fill the hallways.

I realized that despite my initial annoyance that he didn’t care to make an appearance, I was happy to see him. Hope flickered within me, but I restrained it, I knew better than to let one unusual appearance make such a huge difference. He stopped talking and turned around with a surprised expression. “Liv?” He said and looked around like he was in the wrong place. “What are you doing here?” He asked as his eyes rested on the bag I was clutching under my arm.

“What am I doing here? What does it look like? What would anyone be doing in a hospital Cyril? At least you had the common sense to turn up,” I replied in an irritated tone and exhaled slowl

CYRIL“Does it matter? I thought you wanted me around. I'm here now, let's go home,” I held Olivia by the arm. I dodged her question, knowing that I wasn't there for her.I was aware of her calls but decided not to pick her up because I was having the best time of my life with Rene at the party. If she wasn't involved in a ghastly accident, I wouldn't have encountered Olivia. Seeing Olivia ruined my plan. I just hope she doesn't get to find out about Rene pretty soon.“No, I'm not leaving this place until you explain your reason for showing up. The last time I checked, you weren't picking up my calls, which made it difficult to know my whereabouts,” Olivia interrogated me as though she were a detective. She didn't allow me to have breathing space to process my response before tossing another question at me. She put me in a difficult situation that seemed impossible for me to come out of. My heart was beating faster like the drums of war. My feet trembled in fear. I wanted the gro

OLIVIA At that moment, my heart stopped pumping blood. I became ill. I was inclined to head back to the hospital and receive another medication. Cyril has destabilized my system. “I can explain. Please forgive me. It's not what you think,” Cyril apologized. He was edging closer to me. I quickly edged backward. I was harnessing evil thoughts in my head that may send me to jail if executed.“Give this phone to him and take me out of here. I need to go on vacation in Singapore,” I urged Kate while handing Cyril's phone to her. “Vacation?” Cyril echoed. “Why are you going on a vacation? What about the business? Are you just going to abandon everything like that?” Cyril protested. I just realized how selfish Cyril was. He only cared about himself. I noticed this awkward trait, yet I agreed to marry him because I thought he would change. I just realized that a leopard never changes its spot.I nodded my head disdainfully. Getting into an argument with Cyril would only become a wast

OLIVIA We finally arrived home after the terrific experience with Cyril at the hospital. I don't wish to experience such trauma ever again. I was adamant about getting out of the car. Kate had already stepped out of the car while I was drowning in my pool of wretchedness. She was about to go inside the house when she noticed I wasn't anywhere to be seen. She made a U-turn, heading back to the car. “What's wrong? Why aren't you out?”“Don't worry, I'm fine.” I lied. My facial expression could tell that something was eating me up. How do I explain to Kate that I was still obsessed with Cyril? The incident that occurred at the hospital was still playing in my head like a movie. No matter how hard I try to ignore it, I still find myself dwelling in the past. “And you expect me to believe that? Come on, is it about Cyril?” Kate asked me. She has worked with me to the extent that she now predicts my next move. Getting her to believe me won't be easy.“Yes, it's Cyril,” I nodded my h

OLIVIA “Hey, chill. Why did you jump off the bed like that? I thought you said you didn't want to see anyone?” Kate teased me with a burst of wicked laughter.“Stop it. That's not funny,” I quickly cautioned her. Weirdly, Adrian had to meet me in this pathetic condition. We weren't going on a date, but I wanted to appear smart and agile in his eyes if we were going to be long-term business partners. “Did he say he wanted to see me?” I asked Kate, even though I knew Adrian was here for me. What could he possibly want to do with Kate?“Isn't it obvious?” Kate rolled her eyes without actually saying anything.“Why these questions? Does it matter who he came to see or what he came for? I thought you were down with migraines?” Kate asked. She was surprised to know the reason for my eagerness despite my condition.“Kate, this is one business I've been waiting all my life to seal. If this isn't the right time to make that happen, then I don't think the appropriate time would ever come,”

OLIVIA "What else did she tell you? I got closer to Adrian. I was scared that Kate might have said a lot in my absence. “Okay?” Adrian edged backward and avoided me like the plague. I felt so stupid in front of him. My level of confidence dropped drastically. “You know what? Let's forget about it and get back to business,” I told Adrian and changed the topic. I was becoming too desperate. It was obvious. Even the blind could see that. “You're freaking me out right now. Did I do anything wrong?” Adrian asked me. He was starting to feel guilty. “No, you didn't. Why would you say something like that?" I said, forcing a smile. I act like I'm fine, but deep down, I was desperate to know what was discussed in my absence. “Do you want me to leave? Is this a bad time to come?” Adrian stood up, wanting to leave. He had a feeling that I wasn't comfortable with his presence. “No, please stay.” I quickly held his hands to stop him from leaving. Accidentally, we made eye contact. I could

OLIVIAUntil Adrian walked away, I couldn't get my eyes off him. There's something special about him that makes me want to call him back. I never wanted him to leave. Just the few minutes I spent with him, I felt like a real woman again. He rejuvenated the sparkle in my life. He was the missing link I needed. “Is he gone?” Kate rushed to the living room and startled me. “What's wrong with you? How would you walk in like that?” I scolded Kate. I was so rooted in Adrian that I never saw her coming.“Yes, he is gone.Guess what? We just sealed the deal. He promised to send the contract to my mailbox,” I told Kate. Her joy knew no bounds. One would think she owned the company.“What are you going to do about him?” Kate asked me after the brief celebration. “What about whom?” I avoided her question like a plague and sauntered to the bar to grab a bottle of whiskey. I poured a small portion inside a glass. Before I could take a shot, Kate snatched the glass from me.“No alcohol.Remembe

OLIVIA “You must be excited about this, aren't you?” Kate teased me.“Am I?” I blushed and smoothened my skirt as though it were rumpled. I was acting like a child without actually knowing it. “Yes, you're. That's not bad If you ask me. I haven't seen you this excited before. If going out on a date with Adrian would restore your happiness, then I won't judge you,” Kate told me. That was the best thing I've heard in a long time. “Thank you so much for everything,” I rushed to hug Kate. I couldn't hide my excitement. Adrian may call it a dinner, but I don't see it that way. He wants to have a proper date with me. Calling it a dinner was the only way he could convince me to show up and it worked. I wouldn't have been comfortable dressing up to go have a date in another man's house while I got a man for myself.“Enough of the emotional talks. We got a date to plan,” Kate said excitedly as she opened my wardrobe searching for the perfect outfit for the night.“Dinner, Kate. It's not

OLIVIA I went down and shut my eyes to pray silently. I can't recall the last time I did that. My brain isn't functioning properly. It was the only thing I could think of. Cyril slowly drove past me and stopped. I'm pretty certain he was contemplating if I was the one inside the car.The windshield was tinted, so he couldn't see me. I patiently waited for him to leave and he did. “Gosh! That was close!” I did a cross sign. I was struggling to breathe. This was the reason I asked Kate to go home because I knew Cyril might show up. I had no idea that it would happen so fast.Without hesitation, I drove towards the main estate gate where I met the chief security. I had the urge to stop and confront him for telling Cyril that Adrian had stopped by the house. On second thought, I figured that he might want to call Cyril immediately and blow out my cover. It's quite obvious that he's on Cyril's payroll just to keep an eye on me. It wasn't difficult locating Adrian's estate. I was alre

OLIVIA“What the hell is this bitch doing here?” That was the first question Kate asked the moment she stepped inside the living room and met Rene. She was the last person Kate ever wanted to see.I folded my arms and sat on the sofa comfortably. “The answer you seek is staring at you in the face. I guess you should ask her. She’s in the best position to answer that question.”I wanted Kate to take over the situation like a boss. I figured that it was going to ease the stress off my shoulders. You bitch and homewrecker, what are you doing here? The last time I checked, you weren’t invited. So you better start talking now before I lose it. Don’t fucking mess with me.” Kate confronted Rene, just as I had predicted.I couldn’t have been more proud of Kate for standing up for me at the crucial time when I needed her the most.“I see that you brought your poor and wretched assistant to fight for you. What a coward that you are. You can’t even fight your battle yourself. Where’s your shame?

OLIVIAMy alarm clock beeped, jolting me awake. In a fit of rage, I slammed it off and buried myself back under the covers. It was the weekend, and I had no intention of stepping out or engaging in anything remotely strenuous. My goal for the day was simple—stay in bed, switch off my phone, and avoid any calls that might ruin my peace. It was also the first morning I would wake without Cyril next to me on the bed ever since he left the house and decided to move in with Rene.Hypothetically, last night should have been awful. But to my surprise, it was the best sleep I’d had in a long time. I slept like a baby, uninterrupted, knowing there would be no pointless midnight fights. No one to jolt me awake over baseless accusations. It was one of those nights where I would pay to witness for the rest of my life. As I slept, the thought of Cyril didn’t cross my mind. That goes to show how much I’ve moved on from him. I can’t wait for the divorce procedures to be finally over to ensure my tot

RENEI watched Cyril sleep like a baby after he had devoured the food I made for him. The only thought that came across my mind was to stab him and take pleasure while he bled to death slowly. However, the plan might seem stupid eventually because I wasn’t legally married to Cyril yet, nor had I gained access to some of his assets.I glanced at the wall clock and realized it was 9:30 PM. Sleep has suddenly become my foe. How can I retire to my bed with my two eyes closed, knowing that my mission was yet to be accomplished?I thought Cyril was gonna leave immediately after he shared the devastating news with me. But no, the son of a bitch decides to find solace in me. His presence made it difficult for me to go visit my mother. I wouldn’t want him suspecting that I was up to mischief. As I thought of an escape route, I heard a buzzing sound on my phone. I hurriedly turned down the volume of my phone to avoid waking Cyril up.I realized that it was a text from my mother. She hasn’t been

RENE"I have spent the last couple of minutes surfing the internet for my dream house. I just can't wait for Olivia to sign the divorce papers so I can take over Penhurst Company and save us from bankruptcy," I told my mom over the phone as we discussed our plans to take over Cyril's empire. It was something I had wished for all my life. And it's finally coming to pass. What a day to be alive."Don't get your hope too high, child," my mom uttered words of wisdom. She got me confused on that one. I couldn't help but ask, "What the heck are you talking about? Isn't this what we've always wanted?""There is no point in getting yourself confused. I am going to explain it to you. How are you sure that the bitch is going to sign the divorce papers? And did Cyril confirm to you that he was going to divorce her? Don't let these scallywags fool you. I know what I am talking about."My mother buttressed her point, but she still got me confused. If it wasn't her voice, I would have believed that

Cyril“Oh dear! If you are tired of your wife, Sophia, why don’t you divorce her instead and become a free man just like me? That way, you won’t have to punish yourself like this. You know I hate to see you like this,” I questioned Andrew’s guts, boosting his morale.I wanted him to own up to his shit like a real man, but he failed to understand the signal I was trying to pass across.“I can't do that. Not everyone is like you. And get your hands off me. I would rather not be infected by your spirit of stupidity," Andrew pushed me aside. I managed to maintain my stamina. Else, I would have fallen and hurt myself.“And don't you dare drag my wife into this shit? Real men don't act the way you did. You should consider getting another lawyer to process your divorce,” Andrew spoke while facing the opposite direction. If I wasn't next to him, I would have argued that he was having a telephone conversation and wasn't referring to me.I moved closer to him. “Excuse me? What did you just say?

I did receive a text from Andrew informing me to be patient and let him handle everything. At this point of time in my life, patience has become the enemy. I want everything sorted out immediately without delay. "Good day, Kelly. Is your Boss in? Of course, he is inI wish to speak to him." I asked Kelly, Lawyer Andrew's clerk at his law firm "Does my boss have an appointment with you? I already checked my schedule for today and your name wasn't on the list. Perhaps, you may need to come back some other time." Kelly interrogated me. It took her a while to respond. Her attitude towards me showed that something wasn't. "Do I need to have an appointment with your Boss before I see him? Don't you recognize me anymore? It's my Cyril, the CEO of Penhurst company. Do you remember me now? Now go inside there and tell him I wanna see him," I demanded. I couldn't stay calm anymore. She had pushed me to the wall with her irrational attitude towards me. If it was easier for her, she wo

CYRILI stood up immediately as we exchanged pleasantries. "It's so good to see you again, sir. I must confess, your staff has been good to me so far. They made me feel so comfortable."“Of course, they will. I mean, that's why they're being paid, right?” Uncle Dante teased, and we laughed at each other's jokes.I ensured that we laughed hard because I knew the next few minutes might be hell for both of us, considering what I intended to speak about.“Now, let's get straight to business. Did you say you needed to see me urgently? What's the situation about? I ought to have a busy schedule today. Because of you, I had to make plans for another day,” Dante revealed.I cleared my throat and took another shot of liquor to keep me hyped. I figured what I wanted to say might require some sort of courage and confidence to pull through.“Before you proceed, where's your wife, and why didn't she come with you? I do hope she's doing great? CYRILIt hurts to find out that Olivia is cheating on me with Adrian. After everything I've done for her, the bitch still had the nerve to sleep with another man while we were still married. If it wasn't for me, she wouldn't be running the company, let alone know how it feels to be a CEO.As I drove back to Rene’s apartment, I started imagining all the insane things I could do to hurt Olivia.I don’t see myself letting her go scot-free—especially Adrian. He has to pay for betraying the bro code. He knew Olivia was still married to me, yet he went ahead and had sex with her.Different thoughts plagued my head. I wasn't even certain of where I was heading anymore. Parts of me wanted to go see Rene and wrap myself in her arms for solace, while the rest of me wanted to visit my lawyer, Andrew, to finalize the divorce process between myself and Olivia. He was taking too long to get the necessary documents ready, and I wasn't pleased with it. “Where are your domestic staff? I can't find them around.” I started the conversation with a joke to lighten the mood after seeing how angry Adrian had become.“I laid them off for a reason,” he responded harshly. I could tell he wasn't comfortable with the question.“I see. Must be weird living alone in this big mansion, isn’t it? Don’t tell me, I can relate,” I cracked another joke that didn’t even sound funny to me.“Enough with your dry jokes. Is that what you came here to do? Because I don't seem to understand you anymore,” Adrian groaned.“Kate's gone now, so you better start talking and quit your silly jokes. That’s not funny. I’m done tolerating your silent treatment. I need nothing but the truth from you. And please, no more jokes,” Adrian demanded, shutting the door to prevent Kate from distracting us.“Kate is right about what she said earlier.” I made the bold step to confess.“It’s too early to get mad at me because I’m not done talking,” I added quickly, calming Adrian’s
