(Winona)

The flashing lights outside Vault are so intense they cut through the tinted windows of our SUV like camera flashes on a movie premiere night.

The crowd is electric—reporters, influencers, investors, celebrities, and politicians. Everyone who matters in business and technology is here, and they’re all watching, waiting for me to step out.

Phillip adjusts his cufflinks, glancing at me. “Showtime.”

I let out a slow breath. “Let’s make history.”

The driver opens the door, and I step out, the wall of cameras and noise hitting instantly. Voices call my name, camera shutters snap in rapid succession.

I pause, letting them get their shots of us, my shoulders squared, my expression happy. I’m well-practiced on the red carpet. Vault’s headquarters towers behind me, bathed in gold lights, the logo projected onto the sleek glass facade.

Phillip leans in slightly. “Everything is on track. The press is locked in, coverage is already trending, and the guest list is the strongest we cou

I am with you!! Now the launch is done. Winona needs to pack up her family and return to Brussels!! I wish they would release several chapters daily. Very slow. I am still concerned about Jayden. Don’t trust him. Love Gus!! He knows his son is being an ass

I love this success for Winona but I hope she follows her heart to make her family whole….if it works out with Jayden that is. I wish I would have checked if this was completed. This is very slow with 1 chapter a day but so much happening. These small updates that have not resolutions are boring.

(Winona)Phillip circles back to me just as Lisa is pulled into a conversation with a venture capitalist she’s been chasing for weeks. He steps in beside me like he’s always belonged there, slipping into my space with that same easy confidence. It’s a necessary thing tonight, posing for the cameras, making it look easy, making it look like we are the closest business union in the world. Friends even. But my mind is on my best friend and what she may be hiding. I mean, I could be wrong. But I am going to ask her. Not tonight. I have to focus on this. But tomorrow, she is going to tell me what’s going on.“This feels amazing,” Phillip says, taking a sip of his whiskey. I smile, glancing around the room. “What part? The black-tie event? The power players circling each other? Or being part of an app that will actually changes lives?”“It’s hard to believe this has finally happened. Remember back when we started from nothing.” I stare at him but I keep my smile for the cameras. “We weren

  • Divorce to Destiny: Reclaiming My CEO Husband   571 Day Off At Last

(Winona)“That wasn’t there before.” Anne comments on Kit and River’s little house.I grin. “Nope. Jayden had it put up the day before he left for Brussels.”Anne’s eyebrows lift. “In a day?”“You know how he is. He wanted to make sure Kit and River had their own space, and that I had all the help I needed close at hand.” I nod toward it. “It’s great. They love it. They fit in so well, Anne. Gus really hit the jackpot there.”Anne hums in approval. “I’m pleased.”The back door swings open, and Bobby runs, stretching his arms as he bolts towards Anne. He and Sarah were with Anne for some time before we adopted them and brought them into our family properly.I know how special she is to him and his sister, helping them leave their trauma behind and enjoy life. Like she did for me.“Nanny Anne! You’re finally back!” He almost knocks her over hugging her.Anne laughs. “Oh Bobby! I’ve missed you and you’ve grown another foot while I was away.”Bobby grins. “I’m already taller than Mom.”I

  • Divorce to Destiny: Reclaiming My CEO Husband   572 A Very Long Day

(Jayden)I walk through Nexus Global’s headquarters, the hum of conversation in multiple languages blending with the rhythmic click of polished shoes on marble. The entire building is alive, screens flashing updates on real estate acquisitions, pharmaceutical stocks, energy investments, telecom deals. It’s a controlled beast, and I hold the reins. The boardroom doors at the end of the hall are open. No doubt Hugo is already inside. I stride right in, glancing at my watch.“Ah, enfin,” he mutters, tapping his watch. “You’re late.” “I’m right on time.” I jerk my thumb behind me. “They are late.”Viktor and Matteo walk in behind me. Matteo moves like he owns the world, flashy suit. Flashy everything. He sure does have the Italian flair. Viktor, in contrast, is understated, composed, his presence quieter but just as commanding. Viktor is going to be CEO here. He doesn’t know it yet. But I’ve made up my mind. Right now he is going through the motions to please me but I know he’s still

  • Divorce to Destiny: Reclaiming My CEO Husband   573 Performance

(Winona) The family call starts the way it always does—loud, fast-paced, full of overlapping voices. The kids all have their own devices except Henry, who is wedged next to me, babbling nonsense at the screen.Bobby is filling Jayden in on the contractor mentorship program, Sarah is talking about some school project she’s excited about, and Abby is holding up a drawing she made of the whole family, including Jayden, with a giant heart around us. Jayden listens, smiles in all the right places, asks the right questions. I do too. We laugh, we react, we make sure the kids feel every bit of love across the distance. It’s a well-rehearsed performance. That’s what it’s starting to feel like—performance. Because after the kids say their goodnights, River takes Henry, and I’m left alone with Jayden, there’s a beat of silence.“Long day?” I ask.“Yeah. Well, it will be when it ends. I’m still snowed under by reports that need reading. You?” “This is my first day off in ages and it’s been

(Winona)Lisa finally answers on the third attempt after I disconnect from Cass. “What, Winona?” she sighs, like I’m the biggest inconvenience in her life right now. I narrow my eyes at her tone. “Nice to hear your alive after ditching early last night and not telling me.” “Yeah, well, I was tired and this morning I’ve been busy,” she states. “Too busy to take five seconds to text me back?” She exhales. “What do you want?” I lean back on the couch, fingers tapping against my thigh. “I had the family call with Jayden. It was fine. Then I called Cass and something she said has my mind going.” Lisa is silent for half a beat too long before she says, “Okay?” “Apparently Jayden forgot to mention to me that he had lunch with Astrid today.” “So?”“So… he told me he hadn’t eaten and if you could see them together, Lisa. They have a connection. He’s so happy when he’s with her.”Lisa groans. “Oh my god, Winona.” I sit up straighter. “What?” “Maybe he just forgot to mention it. Maybe

(Lisa)“Lisa,” Winona says, voice low, steady. “It’s not the worst news in the world.” I let out a sharp, humorless laugh. “Maybe not for you. But for me? This isn’t something negotiable.”“A lot of women think that. But it works out. Having a baby can be the most amazing thing…”I shake my head, wiping at my face furiously. “I don’t want this. I never have. And I know… I know… that has to kill you to hear, after everything you’ve been through. After everything you’re still going through. But it is what it is.” Winona doesn’t flinch. She doesn’t pull away or let even a flicker of judgment cross her face. But I know this has to be killing her inside. “Lisa,” she says softly. “You can always tell me anything. No matter what I’ve been through.” “I’m sorry. But you just lost your baby and the chance to have another one. How can I expect you to not be bothered by the fact that I don’t want this one? This is not just disliking the same cocktail or some fashion trend. This is a fundament

(Lisa)I don’t cry. I never cry. Except now, when I’ve done nothing but cry for the past hour, and I have no idea how to stop. Curled up on my couch, knees pulled to my chest, I wonder how life got so complicated. My whole world is now crammed with the kind of emotions I don’t know how to process. I never knew this shit existed. This is why I avoid emotions. This is why I built an entire life around not dealing with shit. Because when I do, when I let myself actually feel things, everything crashes in at once, and I’m drowning. I hate this. I hate all of it. I hate that Winona showed up and made me say it out loud. I hate that she looked at me like I was breaking in front of her. I hate that I probably did. I hate that she thinks I’ll change my mind. I won’t. I don’t want this. I never have. And now, I can’t run from it. I can’t drink my way out of it. I can’t party my way out of it. I can’t distract myself or whatever the hell else I used to do before my whole life turned into t

(Winona)I barely slept. The crying dream came again, the same way it always does—loud, desperate, just beyond my reach. I wake up gasping for breath every time. Then I slept late and this is my third coffee ,and I was meant to be in the office two hours ago. I just can’t today. It took me forever to get to sleep. The argument I had with Lisa, the things she said about me were on replay in my mind. I know she’s not herself. I know she doesn’t want to not be friends anymore. But Lisa always tells it like it is. The delivery may have been way more frantic, but I know she spoke her mind about Jayden and I. And I can’t believe that her opinion of me has gotten that low.She is my best friend and I love her. She’s also in a very hard place right now and I want to be there for her in any way I can.I grab my phone to call her and scroll through notifications. Lisa’s name pops up.Can we meet?I hope that this is to smooth things out between us. I want to apologize for putting pressure on he

Not only staunch in business but as friends.“I’ll still be involved on a higher level, but day-to-day, Viktor’s your guy,” Jayden says, firm and confident. “Effective immediately, he’s the new CEO of Nexus Global.”There’s a brief pause before the quiet, respectful claps ripple through the room.Viktor just nods. “Thank you,” he says. No long speech. No dramatic reaction. Just two words. Classic Viktor.Jayden glances my way and walks over.“Proud of him,” I say quietly. “And of you.”“He’s ready,” Jayden replies. “Hell, he’s been ready for a while now. He taught me almost everything I know about Nexus Global.”Viktor lingers by the window, posture steady. Astrid steps up beside him, saying something low. (Winona)I see the moment his eyes catch mine in the window behind Astrid. He blinks like he’s seeing a ghost. Too late. I’m already across the restaurant floor, my heels pounding each step out in deliberate warning, the sound sharp against the quiet hum of late-night conversations. Heads turn. I don’t care. His face shifts from confusion to panic as I advance—his mouth parting slightly, eyes darting to Astrid like he’s trying to figure out if he’s imagining this. He’s not. I’m here. I saw everything.I saw the kiss. I saw the closeness after. The lingering smiles, the laughter, and the way Astrid’s hand stayed on his like they were sharing secrets. Like she belongs to him. You don’t need sound to understand body language. That kiss wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t a friendly peck on the cheek. It was enough for me to wonder if they’ve been playing me for a fool for weeks. Maybe months.Jayden stands just as I reach the table, knocking his chair back in a clumsy scrape. Astrid rema

(Jayden)Astrid raises her glass, the candlelight catching the rim. “To surviving another quarter without firing anyone major.”“To the rest of us surviving the grueling schedule of the Ice Queen herself.”“You did okay.”“Just okay?”“Better than okay. You have quite the work drive, Jayden. Gus was right to leave Nexus in your hands.”“Not one of you thought that at first. You all hated me. Especially Hugo. I think he still might, actually.”“Oh, you are not so bad, after all.”We clink glasses. The wine’s sharp, dry—like her. The restaurant is dim, ambient, tucked just off the canal. Astrid insisted it was the best late-night spot in Brussels. So far, I can’t argue. The food was incredible, the service seamless, and the company? Easy. A little too easy. This dinner has gone longer than I expected. I expected an answer from Winona to my text. But it hasn’t come. The conversation just flowed so effortlessly tonight. No drama. My thoughts have been chewing on each other for nine hours straight.I hear my phone notification, but I see Cass and I’m so damn happy. She’s about to launch the rest of her life and I’m excited for her.“It’s so good to see you.” I say as I run towards her and give her a hug.“You look like hell,” she says as she grins and hugs me back.“Oh, thanks for the compliment. You look like death yourself.”“Just finished a12 hour shift, what’s your excuse?”We walk out to the private parking area. Having a private jet is so convenient.“I can only blame stress and paranoia,” I tell her as we put my case in the back seat and get into her car.“Paranoia?”“Yes, about where Jayden and I stand in out marriage lately. Numbers, strategies, deadlines. All things that used to matter more than they do right now. My family call is bothering me. It’s not that Winona had a sudden business trip, that’s expected, it’s just the way we interact lately. Going through the motions. Not speaking up on how we feel in case it triggers an argument. I’m as much to blame.“You missed an adjustment here,” she says, tapping the edge of my laptop.“I didn’t miss it,” I say, not looking up. “I just didn’t apply it yet.”She raises an eyebrow. She knows I’m distracted. I’ve worked with her long enough to recognize the look that says I’m full of shit.“You want my input or just someone to nod along while you pretend to work?” she asks.I lean back in my chair. “You always cut right through it, don’t you?”“Of course.”She’s right.
