(Jayden)

Bobby is looking at me with such hope in his eyes, and I can’t say no. “Alright,” I say quietly. “Let’s go.”

Henry settles off to sleep as we walk. It’s a good distance, but finally we head around to the back yard area.

Winona wasn’t wrong. It’s huge in here. Like a private forested area, beyond the cleared spaces.

“I did this today,” Bobby says, pointing towards two huge flower beds. “I cleared them out for Mom. I thought she’d like it.”

I blink, surprised and honestly, amazed. “You did all this?” There’s a massive pile of weeds stockpiled at the side. “Mom and the girls are going to love it. Look at the butterflies and bees.”

The brightly colored flowers beam back at us with insects buzzing about. It’s beautiful.

Bobby nods, a hint of pride creeping into his voice. “Yeah. And there’s more. Look.”

He leads me to a brick wood-burning grill near the back of the cottage, which really isn’t anything like a cottage. The grill is old but in good shape, and Bobby’s clearly been wor

(Winona)As Viktor drives me home from Nexus Global, I can’t help but feel a strange mixture of satisfaction and exhaustion. It’s been a long day, but surprisingly, a good one.Connecting with Sofia was something I wasn’t expecting, and it’s left me with more to think about than I’d planned. We pull up to the huge mansion and Jayden’s standing by the front entrance, pushing Henry’s pram back and forth. He smiles when he sees me, that warm, easy grin that always makes me feel like everything is going to be okay.I step out of the car, making my way over to him. “Hey,” I say, leaning in to kiss him lightly. “You’re waiting for me?”“Of course. How was it with Sofia?” Jayden asks, his voice genuinely curious as he peers down at Henry, still asleep in the pram.I bend down and kiss Henry’s cheek.“She’s sharp. Really sharp. I actually learned a lot from her today.” I let out a small laugh, shaking my head. “She’s damn good at her job. I can see why she’s where she is.”Jayden nods, his ex

(Winona)The backyard is alive with laughter and chatter as the grill sizzles away. Jayden stands at the helm, flipping burgers, hot dogs, and skewers of vegetables, while Bobby and the girls dart around, helping where they can. It’s a beautiful scene—warm, welcoming. The large fire is burning well and there are many gathered around it. Some sitting on the many stumps provided as seats and some just standing near the warmth.Everyone is smiling and chatting. I’d gotten some of the bottles of rosé from the main house cellar brought down. Not everyone likes beer.Viktor walks over, holding a beer, his usual stoic expression softened. “I think you’ve won them over,” he says in his deep, accented voice, gesturing toward the staff who are now mingling and laughing, clearly enjoying the meal.“Bobby has really outdone himself. I never would have expected it of him.”“Kids can surprise you if you don’t limit them.”I glance around, taking it all in. The chefs have been cooking alongside Jayd

(Winona)Hugo hesitates, but under the weight of everyone’s expectations, he finally sits down, the beer still in hand. He takes a sip, and I swear I see him wince. He swallows like it has razor blades in it.The whole scene is comical—Hugo, ever the formal assistant, sitting here with us, trying to look like this isn’t the most uncomfortable situation he’s been in.Everyone else raises their glasses and goes back to their conversations. I separate a little from the women and stay close to Jayden for now.Jayden chuckles softly. “Now that you’re settled, how are the plans coming along for the welcome party I promised Abby and Winona?”Hugo stiffens again, clearing his throat. “The welcome party, monsieur?”Jayden raises an eyebrow. “You do remember the family party I promised Abby over the phone at my welcome dinner, right? I asked you to look into organizing it.”Hugo’s face pales slightly. “I… may have overlooked that particular detail. There were pressing matters concerning the Lon

(Winona)I stand in the cottage, staring at my phone. My mind is a whirlwind, and the words that woman said, the steadiness of her dark gaze, replays in my head. Pregnant. No way.I hit Lisa’s speed dial and the video call button. She picks up after a couple of rings, her face popping up on the screen. She’s in her kitchen, coffee mug in hand, looking at me with wide eyes.“Oh no, what happened? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” she says, skipping the small talk as usual.“I wish it was that simple,” I reply, trying to laugh it off, but even I can hear the unease in my voice. “A ghost would be perfect right now.”Lisa raises an eyebrow, taking a sip of her coffee. “Uh-oh. Spill. What’s going on? Did Jayden do something? Or is it the whole Belgian experience finally hitting you? But it’s not the chocolate, right? That stuff is as amazing as they say it is?”I shake my head. “No, it’s not Jayden. He’s actually been great. And the chocolate is amazing, yes. It’s something else… someth

(Winona)My heart pounds, and for a second, I can’t speak. I look away from the screen, my stomach knotting up, thoughts swirling in my mind. Hall pass week was wild on two occasions.Yes, there were condoms to start with. But can I be one hundred percent sure after that? No. No, I can’t.“Lisa…” My voice trembles as I force the words out. “I don’t know. I don’t think I did have unprotected sex, apart from with Jayden. But there’s always a chance even with contraceptives…”The silence on the other end stretches, heavy and suffocating. I watch Lisa’s face as she processes what I’ve just said, her brow furrowing. She knows me too well, knows when I’m not telling her everything. But how can I even begin to explain this mess? I barely understand it myself. This might get way more complicated. This may tear apart my family for good.Lisa finally breaks the silence, her tone firm and serious. “Winona, you need to find out. If there’s even the slightest chance you’re pregnant, you need to kn

(Winona)I walk back to the main house. The kids are in lessons now, but I have to go check out schools this afternoon. Sure, check out schools I may never need. I could be a single mom back in the USA anytime soon.I need to get a pregnancy test while I’m out and keep that hidden. This is so ridiculous. I’m not pregnant. I can’t get pregnant.I practiced safe sex on hall pass week. Now I wish I’d never insisted on hall pass week. What a crazy-ass idea. But I did do it safely. There were condoms. But condoms break. Condoms slip. And everything got out of control fast. It was chaotic, messy, and in the back of my mind, I know there’s always a chance these things fail. That’s just the ugly truth.Maybe I can’t remember every detail now, but surely I insisted on double checking at the time…But still… the odds are in my favor, aren’t they? It has to be Jayden’s. We’ve been together so much recently, and it would make sense that if I was pregnant, it would be his baby. It has to be. Right

(Cass)“Cass!” Ziggy’s voice snaps me back to the present. He’s standing by the counter, eyebrow raised as he holds a tray of fresh-cut veggies toward me. “Earth to Cass. You gonna season these, or are you planning on serving ‘em bland?”I blink, fumbling as I grab the tray. “Right. Sorry, I was just… thinking.”He sighs, running his hand through his vibrant blue hair. “Cass, girl, I get it. Trust me. But you’ve been ‘just thinking’ all day. If you’re gonna space out, at least pretend like you’re here.”“Yeah, yeah, I know,” I mutter, feeling my face flush under his watchful gaze. “I’m good.”Ziggy doesn’t look convinced, though. He eyes me for a moment longer, then glances around to make sure no one’s paying attention. “Do you, though? You’re riding that ‘green wave’ again, obviously.”My gut tightens. I hate how he reads me so well. Ziggy’s been around the block a few times, his arms a map of tattoos, each telling a story I’ll probably never hear. He knows when I’m out of it, and h

I don’t give Mia a chance to prepare.I walk into Brennan Industries like I own the place, straight past the receptionist, ignoring the protests as I push open Mia’s office door and shut it behind me. Mia looks up sharply, her entire body stiffening. “Winona, what the hell?” Her English has nuances of her Cuban accent but less than the rest of her family.I step forward, keeping my voice steady. “We need to talk.” Her eyes narrow. “Then schedule a meeting like a normal person.” “I don’t have time for games, Mia.” I plant my hands on her desk. “Tell me the truth. Are you in contact with Don Alejandro?” Mia lets out a sharp breath, closing her laptop with more force than necessary. “Are you serious right now?” “Deadly.” She scoffs, shaking her head. “I have nothing to do with him. It’s also none of your business what I do.” “Right,” I say flatly. “But I don’t trust you. I don’t trust Gabriel and I’m not even sure I trust your mother. You better not be

(Winona)The call is done. Vault is set for the launch. I should feel good. It’s all about to happen for me. The biggest night of my life so far. And Jayden won’t be there to share it with me. I know he must have a good reason, but it still makes me a little sad. A major milestone missed. But we’ll have others.I go to step back into the room and stop. Jayden and Astrid are still talking, their voices low, steady. Sofia isn’t there. Astrid is smiling and laughing. I’ve never seen that before. She’s into him, I know she is. But I also know she won’t overstep. Won’t do anything that would throw Nexus Global out of whack. Is that the only reason why, though? I watch them relaxed and enjoying a conversation. It feels ages since Jayden and I have been so relaxed in each other’s company. But we do have the stresses of the family dynamic. The kids are undoubtedly our main priority. I nod at Winona and give her a smile.“Jayden, the media shoot will go a long way to help turn public perception. Sorry we had to blow up your family time…” Sofia says with a smile. “But can I just say, those kids are adorable, and you guys really seem to have your shit sorted as a family.”“At least we have that perception down solid.” I grin at her. “Trust me, it feels the exact opposite sometimes. I appreciate you saying that, Sofia. We’ve worked hard to keep it real for the kids.”“And sacrificed a lot,” Astrid states.“There’s been a lot of changes, for sure. All worth it.”“Maybe we should do a segment on the kids. I know you adopted Bobby and Sarah… and Winona adopted Henry?”“Are you trying to get me killed? (Winona)The kids are out cold, completely wrecked from a full day of running, climbing, eating junk food, and making a mess of the suite. River and Kit have been off-duty since we got back from our day until we fly out tomorrow night. My muscles are really feeling sore right now. I make mental note to get more strength training sessions in. Maybe I better get out of the gym and do more outdoor activities. I loved the rock-climbing wall.I place the green salad on the table next to the warmed flatbreads. Jayden and I are hosting Astrid and Sofia for a late dinner. A bit of a debrief on the media situation and a friendly catch up outside of work. I’m looking forward to it but also a little nervous about being in close proximity to Astrid. She is very straightforward, and she doesn’t flinch at stating things how they are. Something I always appreciated about her even though at first it was a little jarring. So far, so good though. Jayden places the char-grilled meats and vegetable pl

Bobby and Sarah are locked in a dramatic debate over whether onions belong on hot dogs, while Abby is curled up between us singing the song on the movie. Winona leans over to me, her body warm against mine.I tighten my arm around her. “We’re okay? Yes?” She hesitates. “Yes, we’re just fine. Sorry I get in my head so much with feelings.” “Sorry I don’t get in mine enough with your feelings.”She smiles back at me and I’m glad we just get each other these days. “But what about sleep? Are you getting enough?” I’m really asking if Winona is still having the nightmares about the baby crying…“Mostly.”“So you still having them, huh?”“It’s been better with Vault to focus on. Staying busy.”“If you need to get to the point of exhaustion before you can sleep soundly, that isn’t good long term.”She leans over and kisses me. “I’m okay. I promise. It’s getting better. (Jayden)Henry shrieks in delight as the bucket tips over, drenching him in a torrent of water that would terrify most kids his age. His little hands slap the wet surface, his laugh infectious as Sarah and Abby cheer him on. “I told you he’d love it,” Bobby calls from the climbing ropes, shaking his head as he swings across to the next section. “He’s used to the hose at home.”“I’m not sure you and your little brother are safe together.” I laugh and Bobby climbs higher. This is a fantastic kids park, it has everything and not just for kids. Winona and I have given them a run for their money today.Kit chuckles beside me. “Gotta admit, the kid’s fearless.” “No argument there,” I say, keeping a watchful eye on Henry as he wobbles through the shallow splash area, River close behind. It’s been a perfect day—the kind we don’t get nearly enough of. No meetings, no deadlines, no PR disasters. Just us. The family. All playing and having loads of fun. (Winona)Sofia’s voice cues the next topic. “You’ve both had demanding careers. How do you make sure the kids come first?” I shift, pushing my sunglasses up onto my head. “We make it work by making sure that when we are together, we are fully present. No distractions.” Jayden smirks. “Well, most of the time. There’s always the occasional emergency.” “Business emergencies are one thing. But the kids know they’re our priority. They always come first,” I say.Bobby speaks up. “We have a family video call every night, before bed. We never miss it. No matter where we are.” I nod. “That’s right. And this is our first family trip but not our last. The kids have chores. Bobby gets out in the garden and he’s great at landscape design. We just find ways to drown out the negative white noise with positive family energy.”The day finally comes to an end and cameras capture it all. Dubai’s skyline looms behind us, glass towers gleaming in the heat, the water an impossible shade of turquoise. The cameras are already set up, discreet but ever-present. A carefully curated glimpse into the life of a family that—on paper—has it all. Jayden shakes hands with the producer, exchanging pleasantries, while I shift Henry on my hip, forcing a smile. I see Sofia Fernandez, Nexus Global’s Head of Public Relations. I’m a little relieved to see a familiar face and someone I bonded with in Brussels. Then behind her I see Astrid Koenig. I stiffen slightly at the blank expression but that’s just Astrid. Sofia comes straight in with a huge smile and hug for me.As I hug her back, I see Astrid approach Jayden. Us, here. Without work hanging over our heads. Our family all together. I’ve missed the kids so much.”I smile, but it’s not quite real. I’m trying to forget earlier. “The kids?”“And you as well, that goes without saying.”“Does it?”He studies me. “You okay?”“Not really. But I will be. It’s been hectic and I so looked forward to being here,” I say, “ without the media.”“I can guarantee you there’s no media or cameras clicking tonight.
