The sleek black pulled up to the towering building, a man coming quickly to open the backdoor.

Adira emerged from the car like a queen, with two men flanking her sides like loyal knights and her secretary following closely behind.

Making her way into the building, she could feel all eyes on her, as well as the people whispering her name in awe and admiration.

Her designer clothes hugged her clothes in all the right places, and her hair cascaded down her back in glossy waves. Her makeup was perfect, highlighting her features in all the right places, and her jewelries sparkled like stars in the sky.

Her steps were measured and graceful, each one seeming to command the attention of everyone around her.

She stepped into the elevator with her people and as the doors closed, she took a deep breath. Soon, the elevator doors open and Adira stepped out to the sixth floor, which was noticeably different from the other floors. The air was tinged with a sense of exclusivity and privilege. Th

Jardine had a wide smile on her face as she sat in front of Lancelot, spoon-feeding him. It's been hours since he regained consciousness, and after a thorough checkup by the doctor, they were advised to give him enough food. Jardine's joy knew no bounds. Seeing her Lancelot right in front of her with his eyes opened was a sight she'd prayed for over a year. The love of her life was finally back to her. "Do you like it?" She beamed at him, trying to scoop in more with the spoon. "I sure am," Lancelot smiled. Then she fed him more. His parents were there as well and just watched from the cushion. "It's so good to finally have you back, son. The past nineteen months have been hell for us." Mrs. Winslet chimed in. Lancelot had almost broken down when he was told he had been in a coma for nineteen months. Nineteen months was a whole lot of time, and it hurt him to know he'd missed a lot of things, especially Jardine, who couldn't enjoy the marriage."I know, right?" He lisped. "I'm

Adira woke up earlier to make breakfast. She was still in her silk pajamas when she got into the kitchen and found the chef already there."Good morning, ma'am," he said with an inclination of the head."Good morning, Logan. You're done from here; I want to make breakfast myself."The young chef was shocked and tried protesting against it, but Adira stood her ground and sent him away. She decided to make some huevos rancheros.A small smile played on the corners of her lips as she moved around the kitchen with practiced ease. Memories of how she had loved cooking for someone who didn't deserve it came flooding back to her. She pushed the thought aside with another smile. The sizzling of bacon on the pan and the clanking of utensils against the pots filled the kitchen, and soon, the aroma of her meal filled the entire house. After a while, she was done and called on Logan to have a taste. When he did, he closed his eyes and moaned in ecstasy."Oh, my! Oh, my! This is totally amazing,

As Jardine made her way into her family's mansion, she felt like she was walking into a lion's den. Her heels echoed in the air as she pushed open the door to the living room and found her family on the velvet sofas, like they had been waiting for her. She had told them she'd be coming that morning, though. She felt a lump in her throat as she walked in, feeling the weight of their judgmental stares on her skin. She couldn't even look them in the face. "Good morning, Mom. Grandpa, grandma," she uttered and took a seat, facing them. Kalina was the only one absent from the room. "Finally, you decided to come home," her grandmother grumbled. She was an aged but fierce-looking woman. "I'm sorry, Grandma, but I just couldn't leave Lancelot," Jardine mumbled. Kalina came clumping down the stairs immediately. "Oh! Someone is finally home. Hey, big sis," she flashed a sarcastic smile at her, which Jardine ignored. "Hm. You don't look too good. Obviously, looking after Lancelot must'

She studied the man as he approached her, his shoes clacking against the polished floor. He stood tall and imposing, with broad shoulders and chiseled features that would've been handsome if it wasn't for the dark glint in his eyes. He had a Breguet Classique wrist watch on him, which spoke of how rich he was. He wasn't a face Adira had seen before. Turning back to the waitress, Adira asked. "Has someone already paid for this?" Her voice echoed with disapproval. "Uh... not yet, ma'am. But he did ask me to reserve it for him." The waitress replied, a little nervous. At this time, the young man was already standing next to Adira. "So, he hasn't paid yet," Adira rose her brows. "That simply means the sandwich is free to be taken. So, I'm here to pay for it." "I'm afraid it doesn't work that way, Miss," the strange man scoffed. "You haven't paid either. "And since I made the reservation before you, I have every reason to believe it's mine." Adira pivots to face him. "To be frank,

Adira kept staring at the door, waiting impatiently for Jardine's entrance. When Bonnie called and informed her of her visitor, she quickly permitted her to let her in. And in no time, the door was opened with Jardine and Bonnie coming in. Bonnie bowed and left, leaving the two ladies in the room. For a moment, time seemed to freeze as the two ladies stared at each other, the silence demeaning.Adira remained reclined in her seat, her gaze cold and piercing, while Jardine clasped her hands around her bag as she stood like a client.Casting a quick glance around the office, she was impressed by its nature. It was no ordinary office, but the domain of one who demanded the best. And it puzzled her the more that Adira was the one in charge of it. How did she get so lucky?"Take a seat." Adira's icy voice came.Jardine couldn't bring herself to look her in the face. So, she lowered her gaze as she walked towards the desk and took a seat, feeling humiliated. Jardine winced as Adira's words hit her heart like a ton of bricks. She felt her head spin, wishing she hadn't heard correctly.kneel before her? For what reason? What sort of humiliation was that? Her gaze waned as she looked at Adira who had a smug smile on her face. She felt her heart clench in her chest. Kneeling before her was going to be more than an humiliation. How could she even suggest such a thing?"I'm sorry, but..." she stared downward and scoffed. "Why would you even want me to do that?"Adira gave a subdued eye roll. "Why else? You want my forgiveness, right? So, you should be willing to do anything to get it. Now, kneel before me, and I might give it some consideration."Jardine fisted her hands beside her. Never did she expect life to take such a turn on her. Nineteen months ago, who was Adira to even stand in her presence and talk back at her? She was a nobody! How could she have the nerve to sit there and make such a ridiculous request? She was tempted to leave—just

And slowly, Adira stood up to get it.She opened the door, and surprise crept into her face when she noticed it was Vesper, Nikolai's brother. She was amused. Since she started living with Nikolai, Vesper had never paid them a visit. Why was he there all of a sudden? She threw an uncomfortable stare at him, still holding the door open."H...Hi," she forced herself to say.His chiseled frame filled out the sleek, form-fitting black outfit he wore. His steely gaze and tight-lipped expression only added to his intimidating presence, making Adira feel a sense of unease and apprehension."Adira Ravenswood," he called out, ending it with a dark smile.Adira found it offensive that he was addressing her by her old surname. Lyra walked into the house and found Jagger there in the living room, having some apples. He had a knife with which he cut out the apple before taking it into his mouth. He seemed so happy, while she was there, mourning."Lyra." He called, his mouth full with a chunk of apple. "You didn't tell me you were coming."Lyra's eyes were sore and swollen. She fixed her gaze on him as she dropped her bag on the parting table in the room."How do you do it?" She asked in a low tone. "How do you manage to stay so happy when our biggest plan crashed a week ago? You didn't even bother to comfort me, neither did you seem worried that we had lost a lot of money. You didn't even try to come up with an alternative or something. It's so unlike...you."Jagger scoffed. He sliced out a piece of apple and threw it into his mouth before looking at her."Did you say an alternative? What was I supposed to do? But finally setting their eyes on him..."My dear son..." She whimpered as she went closer, holding his hand. "Good Lord! You're awake."Nikolai was still lying on the bed, and his face etched with concern when his parents came in alone."Nik, how're you feeling?" Mr. Vincent asked, going to stand at the edge of the bed.Nikolai's eyes were fixed on the door, and when he didn't see who he was expecting, he looked at his parents."Where's she? Adira found it difficult believing Bellamy's words. Was she for real? How could this woman have the guts to say this to her face? She was hurt, she wouldn't deny; hurt that Nikolai had been processing their divorce. Of course, he told her about it. But now, it was just too difficult to believe. She sniffed as an uncontrolled tear dropped to her cheek. Looking up at Bellamy, she found no emotions on the woman's face. When did the woman change so much? She used to love her a lot.She looked at the paper again before pushing it away, towards Bellamy."I'm not signing it." She said in a hardened tone.Bellamy's brows furrowed in surprise. She never expected that rigidity from Adira."Are you being serious?" She scoffed. "Do you have any idea what I'm offering you? If you agree to sign these documents, I'll make sure we drop the charges against you and you can be out of jail. You'll be free."The temptation of the offer lingered on Adira's mind.
