At 12:45 Am, He found himself lying in Aileen’s queen size bed, in her floral sheets wearing a shirt from some music festival that was two times too big for her.

He was almost certain that she’d tell him to sleep on the couch, but no. She insisted that they lay together, insisted that he shouldn’t go home but rather that he should spend the night and stay for breakfast in the morning.

‘It’d be rude of me if I just told you to go after all this. I like you. I want you to stay.’ She had said as Jake lathered conditioner in her hair. ‘You’re kind.’

And tears almost welled in his eyes because nobody had complimented him like this before or made him feel as special. He felt pathetic.

But she didn’t seem to mind that he wasn’t at all good at talking dirty, or that she had to do most of the work. She favored gentleness.

“The weather is changing” Aileen’s voice echoed through her bedroom, standing and looking out the windo
