Peering my eyes open, I quickly snapped them shut and winced. Remind me not to get drunk in my life again. My head is banging so hard that I’m finding it difficult to keep my eyes open.

Inhaling deeply, I summoned inner courage and opened my eyes. The faint light peering in through the small opening in the drawn curtain made me wonder what time it is.

Pulling the duvet aside, I sat up. At that exact moment, the door opened and Xavier walked in with his phone placed on his ear. His eyes trapped mine. “Just handle them, Lucas. I do not pay you such a ridiculous amount for nothing. I’ll call you later to know how it went.” He disconnected the call, pocketed his phone, and stared at me unblinkingly. “Hello love.”
