The two of them locked eyes. Time seemed to stand still at that moment.

Warren clenched his fists tightly and walked toward Evelyn with long strides. He forced himself to suppress the longing in his heart and hid all the emotions in his eyes.

He said in a calm and steady voice, "Evie, are you okay?"
