Serenity’s POV
“Get in the car young lady,” Brady said to me as he rough-handled me towards the car, finally letting go of my hand as he opened the door. He had come at the perfect time to save me from Anthony but I wasn’t going to let him know that I was grateful.
“I wasn’t doing anything wrong Brady,” I told him as I crossed my arms over my chest. “What are you stalking me?”
A rasp of breathing slipped from Brady’s lips. “Protecting you from the wickedness of men. You don’t understand - wolves are usually dangerous just before the mating ceremony. Because the ceremony is drawing near, they may be in heat and promise you all kinds of nonsense in that condition just to get in your pants.”
Huffing, I got in the car. “Oh well. He is a Beta’s son. He won’t try any bullshit to ruin his reputation.”
“How naive!” Brady shook his head at me before getting into the driver’s seat. “I want you to know this - that most men are not good for you, So choose wisely. Even your mate may not be good for you. The bottom line is to be logical and objective when selecting a mate for yourself.”
I began to wonder if anyone in his eyes was ever good enough for me.
“Talking reasonably like this is better than you have to drag and grab me around. And I wonder if you won’t get worse after finding my mate on Saturday.”
Brady ran his hands down his chin. “I hope you don’t get caught up with the wrong mate. That is not something you want to experience.”
“What? You mean like what happened to mum and dad?”
“We carry their genes. It’s most likely we might not be able to fight against fate.” He took a deep breath and said. “I will accept whoever my brother-in-law will be. But that will be on the note that he will be good to you. Most men in this pack are hideous.”
“How can you talk bad about your gender?” My face wore a surprise look. “And why are you so hard on me? It’s almost like you hate me. My friends’ brothers don’t behave like you do.”
“It’s because I love my baby sister and I know what’s best for her.”
“How many times have I heard these lines?” I rolled my eyes.
“The older you get, the more privy I am to protecting you,” Brady uttered and I kinda feel bad for not seeing that he cares. But he is so annoying with it.
“I know you protective of me, but I’m no longer a she-pup. I’m a grown woman about to find my mate on Saturday. I will be getting married and raising kids soon. The Moon Goddess will give me the best of mates. So worry no more.” I replied to Brady - a part of me knowing that he would be happy to see me taken.
Brady started the ignition and then turned to me. He looked intently at my eyes. It was the first time I had ever looked truly into his eyes. I realised they were the prettiest shade of brown that reminded me of a spring’s day sky. “Serenity, I don’t want you to think that I hate you.” Brady reiterated his point and for a moment, I believed him as I gazed at him - unable to look away. I began to wonder if he was using some Alpha aura on me.
Brady extended his hands to me and rubbed my palm soothingly. My wolf rippled and squealed. Closing my eyes and opening it almost immediately, I saw he was no longer holding my hand when I thought he was.
“My wolf, I can feel her,” I said excitedly. But he continued to drive and kept mute. “Did you hear me, Brady?”
“Yeah, I did.”“Are you not happy for me?” His voice showed no excitement.A sullen feeling hit my chest hard. I could feel Brady tighten his fist on the wheel. It was the first time I saw him suppressing what I call anger.
Why is he getting angry?
My brother confuses me a lot.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, I’m alright!” He snapped back at me like a little child with an Alphaic tone.“Don’t use that tone on me, Brady. I’m an Alpha’s daughter too.” I dared to be unafraid.
“When we get home, just go straight to your room.” He ordered and then I heard a howl from a distance. I could smell a rat.
“Stop with that abusive tone of yours. I hate how you behave. Are you a sociopath or a psychopath? Which one?” I was equally angry.
“Just do what I say.” The howl from the distance came up again,
“You know what?” He stopped driving and tossed the key at me. Getting down from the car and commanding me to drive.
“Just go straight home okay? Don’t send backup.” He was brief.
The howl was coming from the lakeside.
I wanted to go with him and be sure that my friends were alright. But first, he had shifted to his black wolf form and ran a great distance in a flash. And the howls were heightening my leaps of fear.
With shaky hands, I moved to the driver’s door and got in the car; locking the doors for double safety.
Just as I got the car started, there was a bang on the passenger side window, and I jumped out of my skin to see Penn hastening me to open for her. I could see the same measure of fear in her eyes.
Quickly, I unlocked the door, and she jumped inside and locked the door after her. Penn was breathing heavily. And I could tell she had a lot to say. But all she said was, “Drive.”
Without second thoughts, I drove at maximum speed. Straight to the packhouse.
Serenity’s POV“A pack of rogues came out of nowhere,” Penn said to me finally after we were back at the packhouse and in the comfort of my room as she continued to fidget. I knew whatever she saw must have been frightening. I’ve never seen her so shaken.“I’m sure everything will be okay. My brother is handling things.” I told her but then I began to worry since he had no backup. And for a moment, I thought myself stupid to have heeded his words when he told me not to send backup.Worry began to consume me so much that I got up from the bed and headed towards the door.“Where are you off to?” Penn asked as she stood up as well. Oh, I forgot. She couldn’t possibly stay in the room alone.“I have to make sure my brother is fine. He is without backup.” I retorted as I turned the door handle, heading down the hallway. As soon as I began to make my way downstairs, I noticed that the commotion was breaking loose. Wounded warriors were being taken to the pack intensive unit. Just then I spo
Serenity’s POVAnthony was dead. That was what my mother had to say. She had explained that losing a mate brought immense pain and untold torture. But I had felt nothing when she mentioned his death. When I thought of Anthony, I was indifferent about his death. If Anthony was my bond mate, then the goddess did me a favour by making sure I didn’t end up with him.The only thought of loss I had was the fear that I’d never connect with someone on an emotional level. That saddened me because I had always wanted my first mate to be my last. Wolf folklore has it that a second mate is never like the first. It’s like the superlative of good, better, best.Unfortunately, it will be conferred on my brother to provide me with a mate. Since my initial bond mate was gone.My mood was soiled that night. Everyone left me to rest. I found myself in bed the whole next day as I mourned the loss of true love. My mum came to check on me a few times and I would always give her that assuring smile which say
Serenity’s POVIt felt good to step outside and enjoy the scenery of people getting ready for the mating ceremony that will be held tonight - under the full moon. Heading to the kitchen to grab a plate, I bumped into my mum who wrapped her hands around me. “Happy birthday, my beautiful daughter!”Nearly had I forgotten my birthday with everything that had happened lately, especially with the agonizing attack that wrecked me at night. “Thank you, mum.” A broad smile crossed my face.“I was thinking we could go shopping tomorrow to celebrate. Today’s schedule is tight for me and I can’t promise I’d have enough energy for an outing afterwards.” My mother explains to me, and I can tell from her tone that she has missed our frequent mother and daughter outing.“Be my guest!” I gave my mum a thumbs up as I grabbed my plate of hot casseroles and poured some fresh pineapple juice into my favourite mug. No one touches that mug. It’s reserved for me alone.“I’ve got some strawberries stocked in
Serenity’s POVToday dragged on longer than usual and I wished it were dusk so that I could make my grand entrance to the mating festivity - getting on my brother’s nerves and his future Luna. In the meantime, I decided to start packing my things to the guest wing of the house. After my encounter with Lottie, I knew better than to stay close to her. The more I saw her with my brother, the more I felt sorry for them. I thought opposites attract, but these two were compatible in the same things. Brady was impulsive and always wanted things done his way. And Lottie was similar in character. For example, when I had those night attacks, not once did he care enough to check up on me. And now, he is stopping me from having fun on my birthday. Rather he is taking that brattish girlfriend of his as his Luna, which is disturbing to me.Moving to the top of my cabinet, I began rearranging some picture frames and my eyes caught one I took in sophomore year with Brady. He had bought me a large-siz
Serenity’s POVThe epic moment I had been waiting for came as the music was turned off so everyone could pay attention to my brother’s announcement. Opening the gigantic door to the dome with a keen gaze at my brother who was on the grandstand - about to make his speech.Gracefully, I began to make my way to a waitress who held out wine. Through the corner of my eyes, I could see the male wolves looking in my direction. Their eyes told me everything I needed to know. In my sexy red dress that had an open slit up to my thighs, I knew they were hooked. Sipping my wine as my brother addressed the crowd, the satisfaction reeled in knowing that I was garnering the attention of onlookers and potential mates.I don’t think he has taken note of me just yet.But then I was afraid to make eye contact with him. Especially with Lottie by his side. In between, Brady paused his speech and held my gaze. But I wasn’t repaying the favor, because, at that moment, my heart began to feel ache in my heart
Serenity’s POV“What?!” Brady was as shocked as I was. I had no words other than to watch in awe.Where did Mum get the mind to think such? The thought of being my brother’s mate was weird. But it was even more bizarre to hear such words flow from her mouth. My wolf thought otherwise as she was so calm. Or I wonder if she knew all along that my brother is my mate.“It’s high time we told you.” My mum further confused me. Brady had to ask: “What’s going on?”Father began to wag his finger against the idea. He didn’t want us to know whatever Mum was pushing him to say. But then, my kept on persistent and he surrendered. “You’ll have to tell them, Sweetie. Not me.”Our mother sat with my dad by her side - holding her hands as though to encourage her to speak. She took in a deep breath and summoned courage.“Serenity, I don’t know how to say this but you got to know that the Moon Goddess works in mysterious ways.”My heart began palpitating about what my mother had to say. It got me on e
Serenity’s POVMy father came back for me and walked me to my room. I can’t remember anything from the last night except the pain I felt. You can always feel rejection. Your partner doesn’t have to say it. And with the loud noise emanating from the next room, I felt a sharper physical pain slice through my body. Their noises confirmed Brady’s non-existent feelings for me. Her screams seemed like she wanted me to hear it all; leaving no room for doubts that Brady was all hers. I knew I had to leave this pack and head to Yellow Gem.There was nothing left here for me. Brady had made his stance clear. I was the one hesitating to move on while he kept on deliberately trying to hurt me…For some reason, the pain was bearable and I knew it had something to do with finding out my family tree. Maybe I’d find peace and solace in meeting a new family where I’d have an actual brother or cousin who wouldn’t turn out to be my mate overnight. In the wee hours of the morning, before anyone was awak
Serenity’s POVBringing my car to a halt in front of the exquisite structure, I sat in my car beholding its beauty for a while. For a moment, I wondered what I was thinking come here. And then it hit me - a fresh start is what I need. Without having to always answer to Brady or stay under his watchful gaze. Without having to tolerate Lottie and how she always wants to rub it in my face that my brother is hers.I’m here now and I need to focus on the goal at hand; while also not getting in trouble or becoming a rogue for transgression. At that moment, my wolf strengthened my resolve as I neared the door. Opening and closing the door behind me, a voice towered over me from the staircase. I looked to see a man - around the age of my father. “Serenity, I have long waited for you.”Confusion placated my face; not understanding what he meant by that. I didn’t even know him. Either Brady or my parents must know him.Moving nearer the door, I said, “You seem to know me.”“Silly child! You be
Serenity’s P.O.V.Who would have thought that our last-minute enemy victim would be Bentley - my sweet and loving brother who could not hurt a fly except for justice? What Lucho's bastardity had caused him! What his craziness had cursed us!By now, he was walking towards me, glinting in his eye like he wouldn't hurt me.But soon, his eye colour changed to a deeper orange, and he lifted me above his shoulders - wanting to strike me against the floor."No!" Alpha Cruz aimed for his leg, which caused him to lose balance.I fell with a terrible pain to my ache. With no time to waste, Alpha Cruz landed on me.Bentley picked him up instead, and just when he was about to throw him against the wall, someone shot a poisoned dart at Bentley's carotid sheath on his neck. That meant instantaneous death.I quickly got up, recovering from the shock so Bentley wouldn't fall atop me.Just like that, the bottle-weary war had ended with a poisoned dart. But who had shot it?It never even occurred to m
Serenity's P.O.V.To my shock, Alpha Gavin and his parents had come - alongside Penn and Claudia.“Lucho bastard, you die today!” Alpha Atticus roared at him in his command Alpha tone.Lucho grinned. "I see the whole crew came." "We have heard enough of your tyranny. Enough is enough!" Luna Bella bellowed."Serenity, I'm sorry for ruining your wedding - which gave this bastard the guts to kidnap you…""This is not the time for an apology, Penn!" Claudia whispered, but I could hear her coughing. Claudia then continued, "This is just the right time to finish off this bastard scientist and his psychopath," she said, pointing at Vino.Like the psychopaths they were, Lucho and Vino roared in laughter, tears spilling from the corner of their eyes."But if this is of any comfort, Penn rejected Alpha Gavin." Claudia chipped. At this moment, I couldn't be angry with Penn and Gavin.I was more than glad they had come to the rescue. A greater comfort would be to revive my brother…Even at that,
Serenity's P.O.V.Lucho was still trying to put his words together when a soft knock could be heard on the door.Expecting it to be one of his men, Lucho flung back on his shirt and beckoned on his standing guard to open the door.I had just noticed a third party in that room.He had stood like a silent shadow at the far end of the library corridor - right in Lucho's room.Maybe if I had seen him earlier, I'd have known he wouldn't try making love to me in the presence of his men.Once the door opened, we both were surprised to see who was at the door."Who had let you in without my consent?" Lucho's voice became cold, and his stern gaze could almost command submission from any Alpha except Vino.Alpha Vino - a vile snake.Neither here nor there. He moved like the wind. One couldn't decipher whose side he was on.Rumour had it that he was the only Alpha that made Lucho on edge."I'm here to present you a gift." Alpha Vino said."And what could that be?" He asked, still maintaining a fr
Serenity's POVI woke up in a cosy bed full of sunlight.Immediately, I jerked up from sleep when I saw Lucho lying by my side. "What are you doing here?" I asked him, suddenly noticing I had a new change of clothes."I should be asking you." He retorted. "You sure sleep like a baby." He rather commented."Where is my brother?" "Relax. He is with my cousin right now." He replied, and I eased, but not completely."And what would your cousin do to him?" I became afraid. "Hope you're not going to hurt him." Rather than answer, he got up from the bed and walked over to me. "That depends on your behaviour tonight." He leaned close to my ears, and I tried to move, but he gripped my arms in a loving embrace. "And not just tonight. Always."I gulped while he studied my countenance. "Relax. I've not had a woman in this room for donkey years. Ever since your brother killed my beloved. You look so much like her. And now, I've taken an interest in you. For that, I won’t hurt you. But you mustn
Serenity's POVI had only heard that Lucho was a mad scientist, but I didn't know the extent to which his experiments had gone until I saw something that looked like a giant bird. It mimicked an aeroplane, but it wasn't one.I was too stunned to speak.I was hoping he'd at least shove me inside. Only to see his hands stretched gently to take mine."Come in. I promise I won't hurt you." His voice contrasted with the negative things I'd heard about him. At this moment, he didn't seem evil."I don't want to go with you." I put up a defiant tone. Not so defiant, though.I tried as much as possible to hide my shaky tone."That is not your choice to make. You must come with me if you want the people you love alive." His tone remained gentle, but a rising firmness rose beneath it.I had better not provoke him."What would you do with me? What do you want? Why are you attacking us?" I had a lot of questions for him.I didn't think he'd answer them, but then, I was desperate."Alpha Gavin bro
Serenity's P.O.V.How could he show up when his life was forfeit? What if Alpha Gavin saw him?Why did he have to stir up trouble again?I'm wedding today. He should be far from me if he wants my happiness indeed. Is he here to wreck my wedding? Because that will not work.I became a bit agitated, but I did not let it show. He walked up to me smiling, stretching out a hand. I let him. This would be the last time he would be too close for comfort."You look stunning and peaceful," he complimented me, and I didn't know how to reply, so I just looked at him."I have known you for ages, Serenity. First, as my adopted sister. And then my fated mate. We've been through a lot. You wanted to give us a chance, but I realised it was too late. It's my cross to carry for life, but I'm glad the goddess had favoured you and did not leave you as I did. Alpha Gavin is a great guy, and he loves you to boot. I want you to know that you have my blessing as someone who was once a brother, Serenity. We m
Serenity's P.O.V.Penn readjusted on her seat and continued. "Dick assassination is slang for feasting on his dick like a beastly whore. You feast on him so well that he feels like his soul is leaving his body.""Oh, I see. Make his soul leave his body each time he craves intimacy." I took a quick mental note."This is when you rock your man's dick shamelessly and constantly bring him on edge - not allowing him to release until you permit him. Let me tell you how to edge a man. There are different ways to do that. Including how to use your thumb and forefinger. Are you ready?" Penn asked, and I hurriedly nodded in response. "Get him close to cumming, then squeeze the area between his balls and anus while talking dirty. Then, allow him to rest for at least 1 minu
Serenity's P.O.V."And made me orgasm countless times. He takes his time in bed. But he knows how to discipline me when the occasion calls for it." I told her. I was getting aroused talking about it. But Penn was just getting started."I'm glad you got some good dick. That's a man right there! This night - it'd be your turn to ride him and fuck his brains out. Don't go easy on him…"She started to give advice, and I had to raise my hands to stop her. "Penn, thanks for the jewellery, but we must listen now. Two hours is up…"Instead, Penn cut in, forcing me to sit. "Before we head out, let me coach you a little. You know I'm an expert in this field. I could teach you a lot. Just because a man has fucked you
Serenity's P.O.V.We arrived there, and our attendants were waiting to take Luna Bella's order.Epsom salt, mirrors, and scented oils - all sorts of beauty treats. I knew it would take a while to get me washed up.An omega gave me a special herbal paste on my gum and tongue. After brushing, my teeth got cleaner and whiter than usual. It was beautiful, and I had to ask what was in the herbal paste.I was told it was a mixture of clove, pink salt, cardamom, cinnamon, parasite flusher, and turmeric powder, among other things.I promised myself that I would make it a habit to use thi
