Chapter 31: Desperate

The room was filled with darkness, devoid of any light to testify whether it was day or night. I lay down on the soft bed, sporting a frown. My hair was messy, and I looked as though I hadn't slept in days, with dark lines under my eyes. I absentmindedly played with my belly button, placing my left hand on my stomach. Outside the room, I could hear the birds singing and creating a cacophony of noise.

"Morning," I mumbled.

It had been a year since I had been locked up in this place. I couldn't even keep track of the date and time. Madam Jenna was the only one who came here every day, bringing me food and informing me of the date. She treated me like a human being, unlike the others. I couldn't fathom how my extended stay in this room would be of use to Beelzebub.

Madam Jenna walked in with a tray of food, balancing it in her right hand while using her left hand to close the door behind her. She offered me a soft smile and sat down beside me on the bed, making contact with my body.
