High Elder
I had my chauffeur drive me near the estate of the Rogue Legion where I got out to walk the rest of the way. It was a far walk to the gates of the territory, but I did not want my driver to be accosted by the rogues while I conducted business.I patiently waited at the gate for Magnus where a number of rogues were snarling at me, but because I was the High Elder, they could not attack knowing it would mean their deaths. It was a good fifteen minutes before Magnus himself came out of his mansion to greet me, his harem of dark witches not far behind him."High Elder Alfred Evans, what a nice surprise! I would invite you in, but I know you will decline so we can just talk out here in the open instead. I do commend you for your bravery. Coming here unaccompanied." Magnus shook his head. "I could kill you right where you stand." Magnus chuckled, obviously delighted in the fact I had stooped down to the level of a messenger."Enough of the threats, Magnus. We all know you can not harm me. It will cause a problem for you and your rather small army. How many did you lose during your onslaught against Autumn Moon? Hmmm...," I said, taunting him."Need I remind you, my attack on Autumn Moon cost you your precious High Priestess Celeste and her supposed celestial wolf pup," he snarled. "The prophecy of my death is now just a mere myth. Now, why are you here, High Elder?""I am here on an official capacity. The Council of Wolves have granted your bequest." I took out the envelope from my coat pocket. "This document that bears the official seal of The Council of Wolves grants you your request. In exchange, you are not to harm any wolf from any pack. You are to go forth with your criminal operations and we will treat you as if you do not exist. In return, you are to also treat us the same...as if we do not exist. No more abducting Omegas. If there are wolves who agree to join you on their own free will, so be it. You can not force the issue upon them. Do we have a deal?" I waved the envelope in the air.Magnus motioned to one of the dark witches at his side to take the envelope from me. Jinx, the youngest among the three, sashayed towards me, her green dress hugging every curve of her body, while the deep V of her neckline, plunged below past her breasts, giving me a clear view of her cleavage. She reached to take the envelope from my hands and I quickly moved my hand away."Josephine Clarkson, your mother has been looking for you. As well as your sister." Her smiling eyes changed into a glare at the mention of her mother and sister."I don't have a mother or a sister," she uttered through clenched teeth, her saliva spewing out in front of her."On the contrary, you do and they wish you'd come home.""So they can sell me again to the highest bidder? Na-ah. I'm happy here, High Elder. Now, if you don't mind, I need that envelope you keep moving away from me." Jinx quickly snatched the envelope from my grasp and walked back to Magnus, her round curvy hips moving side to side. She then gave Magnus the envelope and waved goodbye at me. Magnus opened the envelope and took out the document of our agreement from inside the envelope and reads it, to see if everything was in order. Magnus nodded his head and folded the sheet of paper and placed it in his coat pocket."So, Magnus, do we have a deal?""Yes, High Elder, we have a deal. I will live my life with my army and you will go on and live your boring little lives as you see fit without any of us ever crossing paths." He turned to walk back to his mansion when I stop him."Magnus, this is effective immediately. In short, right this very instant. If you go against our agreement, I will rally every pack in this country and make you truly non-existent. Do I make myself clear?" I knew how Magnus thinks. Without specific details, he would work through the loopholes. This meant he would attack since I did not indicate when the agreement would be take effect.Magnus turned. around and smiled at me, if I was not mistaken. The scars on his face made it difficult to tell."Crystal, High Elder. Of course, this agreement does not include my attack on the crime families across the country? Correct?""Just as long as they are not wolf. I can not speak for the human race. I am not their leader." Magnus now has set his sights on the various crime families around the country. Maybe it was good if only one took control of everything illegal. Maybe it would minimize the number of criminals on the street. Well, we'll see what happens when Magnus takes over the syndicate."Well then, I will become the one and only boss of the criminal world by week's end. Thank you, High Elder. May we never meet again." Magnus turned and quickly walked back to his mansion followed by his harem.Magnus' second in command bowed and I nodded my head in acknowledgment. It was time for me to go back to my car."High Elder, if you need any entertainment, you know who to call." I smiled at him. I wanted to tell him I have no wish for that kind of entertainment, but you never know.I walked back to my car where my chauffeur was listening to music while he smoked outside the car. He flicked his cigarette away as soon as he saw me, embarrassed he was caught smoking while on the job."I need a smoke. Do you have anymore?" My chauffeur stared at me with his mouth open, astonished I would ask him for a cigarette."I was young once too, you know." I opened the passenger door of the car, rummaged through the glove compartment and took out a flask filled with scotch. I took a hefty swig and gave my chauffer the flask so he could take a drink. I lit up a cigarette and inhaled deeply, slowly blowing out the smoke I inhaled."Oh, I miss this. A cigarette always took the edge off. It's just too bad I've gotten old." My chauffer laughed at what I said.Yep, I'm getting too old for this. I took another swig of scotch, hoping its warmth would help me forget.(Present Day)Later tonight when the Harvest Moon starts to rise will be my 18th birthday. Currently I am a freshman at a university here in Montana near home, although I had wanted to enroll elsewhere. My mother didn't allow me to go to school outside the state saying she preferred family close by. As always, she would say it was the Filipino in her. I tried to argue the fact that she actually left her family in California, but she went technical and justified her decision to keep me home by asserting the fact that she lived at home when she was in college. Then, she threw in "technology" into the debate and pointed out I have a grandmother who is on standby through video call 24/7. So, now when my mother asks me where my grandmother is, I tell her she's in my pocket which usually earns me a dirty look from her. It's true anyway. My smartphone is always in my pocket. It was chaos in our house. My mother was going to throw a Harvest Moon Thanksgiving party for my dad tonight. Actually
IoThe sun was starting to set when I arrived at the large home of the Wrights. Winston Wright, proud owner of The Wright Savings Bank, had invited me to his home for his wife's Harvest Moon Thanksgiving party. I decided it was the least I could do since Winston had just invested a large amount of money into my business.Winston Wright was a savvy investor. He earned his first several millions by investing in upcoming tech companies which are currently worth billions. He bought some foreclosed property around the ski slopes in the mountain and turned it into one of the best ski resorts here in Whitefish, Montana. Finally, he inherited a chain of banks from a very wealthy old friend, who named him his heir, for his friend had no children of his own. Winston Wright has doubled even tripled the bank's revenue since he took over. He is very successful and one lucky man. He has never lost money from an investment. I met Winston Wright at one of my family's fundraisers. He had tracked my fa
He looked like a modern day Adonis. The setting sun behind him casted an ethereal glow on his very tall form which made him look like a Greek God. He was beautiful, there was no other word to describe him. He had dark hair cut neat and short, chiseled features, full lips, a nice nose and clear blue eyes. When he took off his shirt, I had to look away. He was very proud of his physique, but why wouldn't he? His broad shoulders were wide, his chest muscles bulging and his stomach flat and taut. And his arms...his biceps protruded from his arms and were hard to the touch. When I touched his arm, his muscles tensed beneath my touch, extremely sensitive. I apparently affected him as much as he was affecting me.He called me his mate the same time the voice in my head said it. It was strange. I didn't know what it meant even if this man assumed I did. The voice in my head screamed for me to kiss him. I didn't even know how to talk to him let alone kiss him. I have never once kissed a boy le
IoShe looked at me thinking I was joking, but I was dead serious. I wanted to taste those beautiful lips of hers. She stared at me for a few moments, weighing her options."Okay, but on the cheek." What was I to her? Her father? "Ah, no. On the lips. Like any normal couple," I reasoned."We aren't a normal couple. I've only known you for what? An hour? And you want me to kiss you?"She wrinkled her nose in distaste. "And if I don't kiss you, what will you do?" She raised an eyebrow, challenging me. My Luna thinks she can outsmart me."Well, I'll be coming with you...inside your room." I had to make it a tough decision for her or she wouldn't budge."I-I-I haven't kissed anyone before." She suddenly turns around and starts climbing the stairs again. "What I mean to say is, I haven't kissed a boy on the lips ever. But, I have had a boy come in my room before. Many times before. So, I guess you can come with." She motions to me to follow her. Damn, I thought I could trick her into kissin
Kiaria"That's my Auntie Yumi, Io. Aunt Yumi, please don't embarrass me. He's a guest." When my father said his name a while ago, it took me a second to process who he was. Io Hemming, the playboy millionaire. Every week his new girlfriend would be the face of the tabloid newspapers. I should know. My mom has a subscription of a tabloid paper for their crossword puzzle in the back. She leaves her paper on the countertop every morning which I read while I drink my morning cup of coffee. You had to wonder what did all these women see in Io Hemming anyway. Well, now that he's infront of me looking at me like I'm the love of his life, I know why these women would fall for him. He was handsome, smooth, rich and the look in his eyes could make any woman feel special."I heard he's your boyfriend from your mom. When your grandmother hears about this, she'll scold you," my Aunt Yumi warns me."Aunt Yumi, you guys know I'm a pretty good judge of character. Io, tell my aunt who I am to you. Go o
IoI was now accepted by the family, however with certain conditions. I was even given their approval to stay at the guesthouse for the time being. Tomorrow, I will contact a realtor and purchase a house in the neighborhood if not, land. I can always buy a tiny house and move in. At least I wouldn't be encroaching on the Wright's hospitality and I could at least have some freedom to move around since I was staying on my property.Kiaria wanted me to court her so, court I will. I had Marcus pick up some of my things at the hotel to bring here while I spend some time talking to Kiaria at their cozy backyard patio. She was allowed to drink some sangria while I had a glass of scotch. We sat down looking at the full moon and talking about anything we could think of."So, what do you do for a living, Io Hemming, aside from hogging the front page of the tabloids?" Kiaria's eyes were sparkling with her laughter. She did know me although not the way I wanted her to know me."I'm a businessman
KiariaLast night was really bizarre. I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or living in an alternate universe. At first, I was like any other person, common, ordinary. Then when I hit eighteen I become a big wolf and have a mate to boot.I had a mate. A handsome, rich playboy for a mate to be exact. Maybe I was dreaming. Maybe all of this was a figment of my imagination. I bet you when I go downstairs for breakfast and ask for him, my mom will probably send me to see a therapist because of my delusions.Well, it's time to get ready for school. I open the door to my bathroom slash walk-in closet, pick out a comfortable outfit since today I had my majors which meant I'd be stuck in class with boring teachers and hyperactive classmates all worked up on caffeine. Baggy jeans, a cute spaghetti strap tank top and a sweater will do just fine. Pair them up with sneakers and my outfit could pass as pajamas.I take a quick shower, brush my teeth and style my hair in a messy bun. I kind of wanted to
IoI watched Kiaria as she walked to her building and waited for her until she was safely inside. When she entered her building's doors, I immediately went inside my car and whipped out my phone. I had a wedding to plan. My wedding. My heart was racing from the excitement of it all. I have found my fated mate and she has agreed to marry me. Of course, since a wedding is a human tradition, we would also have a mating ceremony to follow wolf tradition. I could not wait to place my mark on her, to make her mine, but first, to appease her human parents, we would get married.Kiaria said tomorrow was her free day. Perfect. Instead of a date, we would get married instead. I pressed Marcus' number on my phone which was on speed dial."Marcus, I need you to get a marriage license for me and Kiaria at city hall. Use all our connections there. Then ask the Mayor if he can officiate our wedding. Scratch that. I'll ask the Mayor personally. I'll meet you at City Hall.""Alpha, congratulations! Th
IoMy mother's eyes flickered with fear the moment she heard Magnus' name. "Those thieves were Magnus' men?" My father asked. "Io, are you sure he isn't already here?"I don't think so, Father. The High Elder would have said something to me," I answered. "But it is possible that he might be here. It could be the reason why the High Elder is flying out here tonight," my father said, his distress obvious in his voice. Even Kiaria began to look concerned."Father, let's calm down. We will know when the High Elder arrives," I said, looking at the wall clock. "He will be here soon.""Who is Magnus? I think I have the right to know if I'm right in assuming he was the one who killed my biological parents," Kiaria said with so much conviction, I decided it was time to tell her what I knew.I took her hand in mine, hoping to give her some comfort. "When a wolf is banished from his or her pack, he or she is called a rogue. Magnus, is the second son of a powerful Alpha, whose territory is situ
KiaraAfter the police took our statements, they allowed us to go home. They praised my father for his quick thinking and calm resolve while I was asked to join therapy sessions for post-traumatic stress disorder after being held hostage. Since I was bothered by that one rogue's untimely death, I toyed with the idea that I should go see a therapist. However, Selene argued I shouldn't feel guilty... that it was either him or my father. While I was waiting for my father to sign some documents for the police, I took a moment to imagine a different scenario, one where my dad was dead and the rogue wolf was alive. I wouldn't be here at the police station. Instead, I would be at a funeral home making arrangements while my mother would be seated in the car waiting for me, catatonic, broken and distraught. After burying my father, my mother would struggle to move on while I would live a life full of regret, constantly blaming myself for not doing what had to be done. My wolf was right. There
IoKiaria had powers and even as a beginner her strength was immense. She walked past the yellow tape, all the way to the building like no one even saw her. I thought I was going to die from a panic attack if it weren't for my wolf telling me Selene said there was nothing to worry about. If Kiaria willed it, it would happen. Then after an hour, I saw Kiaria and Winston come out of the building. I was so relieved nothing had happened to her. I had thought she had completed her quest and would walk back to where she left me and Marcus, but she waved at her father and gestured to call someone before going back inside the bank through the main entrance while her father was escorted into a dark van parked infront of his building.I wanted to rip the heads of the police officers for just standing around, obviously doing nothing to take down the thieves. When a sudden noise of glass shattering into pieces was heard, the police officer, who was in charge of keeping the people back, ducked and
KiariaBefore I could take down these rogues, I had to do something about the cameras the SWAT team were setting up. Selene said if I willed it, it will happen. I just needed to focus and focus I did. I wanted the cameras to go Poltergeist on the police.I searched the utility room for something to hit them in the head with. These were wolves... and the stick at the end of a mop wasn't going to do any damage. There was some sort of locker type closet at the end of the room. If there were tools, that's probably where the cleaning staff would stash them. I was in luck. It was unlocked and stored inside were wrenches. I took the biggest heavy duty pipe wrench, hoping it would serve as a weapon.I had to think of a way to separate the two rogues. I decided to make the door creak. It worked. "Check that out, will yah," said one. I decided to name him Rogue Two. "It's probably the police. Remember kill them all."Alert the others if I don't come back," said the other which I named Rogue On
KiariaIt was fun shopping, but we had to get moving, if not, we'd be stuck here forever. I bought a cute mauve pink sleeveless tie neck sheath dress that went down just above the knee. It was pink, but not too bright which I loved. I had some neutral pumps and a clutch that would match the outfit so I didn't need to buy accessories. I also got a long sleeve white chiffon blouse and a pair of beige slacks for a business yet casual look for fall. Now, I had to go buy some pajamas for my mom and dad."Thank you so much. I'll definitely come here again if I need to spice up my wardrobe," I told the owner. She was someone in her late twenties who moved here from Idaho. When she heard I was Winston Wright's daughter, she automatically gave us VIP treatment. Apparently, my father's bank gave her the capital to start her own business."Please do and if you can, tell your friends to visit my boutique," Hannah said."I promise, I will," I replied. Anthony or Toni with an I came to mind. Perfec
Io"Well, congratulations, Kiaria, Io, on your engagement. Well," Winston paused and took his briefcase, "I need to go back to the office for a few minor things. I'll be home before dinner, honey." He kissed Sakura on her cheek then extended his hand for a handshake. I grabbed his hand and happily we shook hands. "So where are you guys off to now?" "I need to do some shopping, Dad," Kiaria answered. "Io's parents will be arriving tonight and I was thinking I need a business suit. Oh, and something pink. There's a party happening on campus and since Io promised he'd come with me, I decided I'd go and check it out." "Your parents are coming in tonight?" Sakura asked. "Yes, to go over the details of the wedding. They will be staying at our hotel, The Moonlight Palace. I have already given orders to my assistant and staff to have their rooms ready. Since tomorrow is a free day for Kiaria, I have invited her to stay with us at the hotel. You are invited to join her. I have already prepa
MagnusI was seated in my office checking the ledgers. My bookkeeper had just gotten himself a mansion. Although I did pay him well, it just wasn't enough for him to buy an expensive home. I needed to double-check the books and see if all of it added up.For eighteen years, life has been good. I was rich, built my own city and because of the advancement in medicine, the doctors gave me a new face and smoothen out my scars. Unfortunately, nothing could mend my eye so I wore a patch. It gave me an edge around the people I mingled with.I still had my harem of witches with me minus Lilith. The bitch left and took everything in my vault. It was okay, some of it was hers anyway and she did leave me the formula of the "No-scent" elixir that helps wolves blend with the humans. Because of it, wolves have difficulty sniffing out a wolf from a human so it's a great thing for the spies I have scattered all over the country. Even if I had killed Celeste and presumably her pup, whispers of the pro
KiariaMy father was seated at our favorite booth busy typing on his laptop. I coughed to grab his attention and he raised his finger to give him a moment to finish whatever it was he was typing."Press on send and I'm done. You have my full attention," my dad said while closing his laptop and placing it in his bag. After he pushed his belongings to the side, he waved his hand for us to sit in front of him. "By the way, Io, that was an email regarding my investment for the mass production of your wines. Attached is the necessary documents you need to read. If you want certain clauses changed, just send me an email," he said. He clapped his hands and rubbed them together. "Okay, so what is so important, Kiaria, that you had to ask me to come here during work?""Where's Mom?" I asked. He raised his eyebrows at me."She's in the kitchen making us some snacks," my dad answered then bent his head to stare on the ring on my finger. "Is that an engagement ring?! Kiaria, is that what this is
Lilith"Bye, girls. I'll see you tomorrow," I said, waving good-bye to my soon-to-be sorority sisters."Pledge, make sure you're at the house at 7AM," said Amelia, a big sister of the sorority. "Don't worry, Hell Week will soon be over and I'm hoping to see you sworn in as a neophyte, Sis." I nodded my head before unlocking the door to my car.I watched the young girl Kiaria enter the car of Io Hemming, Alpha of Sacred Moon Pack, and drive away. Once she left the school premises, I excused myself from the irritating flock of twittering girls from the sorority I had pledged to join and climbed into my Mercedes-Benz which had given me status as part of the elite on campus. As I drove away from the University and well away from keen eyes, I reverted back to my true self. I stopped at a red light at the intersection and took a moment to look at myself in the rear view mirror. I was now old. The wrinkles on my face were evident and the color of my hair was slowly changing to white. Gone wa
