They all headed for the dining table, to take their seats in absolute silence. Lilith set eyes on the plates with distaste, her disgust evident on her face, not even bothering to hide it.
"Really, Naida? This is what you call cooking?" she asked sarcastically, her voice dripping with malice. "I could have made something better myself."
Calista and Quinn giggled, looking at each other. Asher sent them a glance, but they ignored it. "Don't listen to them, Naida. It looks and smells delicious." Asher tried to reassure her, though it was apparent that he didn't have much conviction in his voice.
"Of course, he would defend our precious Luna," Quinn said, rolling her eyes.
Naida felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment, and her eyes prick as unshed tears burned at the back of her eyes. But she was used to their taunts by now, as painful as they were.
"She really can't do anything right," Calista whispered to her twin sister, her gaze resting on Naida for a moment. "Even her cooking is as bad as her dress sense."
Naida turned to Rylan, who didn't even come to her defense. In fact, he looked the most annoyed of them all, not even bothering to look up from his plate as he shoved his food into his mouth. Asher saw Naida's downcast expression and his heart went out for her. He bestowed upon her a small, sympathetic smile as if to say, "Don't let them get to you."
But Naida barely noticed. She was too deep in her own misery, wondering how her life had gone so far out of control. Was she really as worthless and undesirable as Rylan and the others made her feel? Silent tears ran down her cheeks as she poked at her food, her appetite gone.
Later that day, Rylan left for another pack meeting while Asher headed out to meet up with some friends, leaving Naida alone in the house with Lilith, Calista, and Quinn.
"You there, Luna," Lilith called out as soon as the front door closed behind Asher. "Come clean up this mess." She gestured lazily at the glasses and plates littered around the living room.
Naida hurried over and began gathering the dirty dishes without a word of protest. She knew what would happen if she didn't obey her.she would complain to Rylan and right now she didn't want him to hit her for disobeying his mistress.
She could feel the judgemental stares of the three women burning into her back.
"Honestly, I don't know the moon chose you to be Rylan's mate, Naida," Calista sneered as Naida bent down to pick up a particularly stubborn plate. "He could have done so much better."
Quinn laughed. "Who would want a plain, mousy thing like her when they could have real women like us?"
Their laughter echoed in Naida's ears as she made trip after trip to the kitchen. By the time she finished, her eyes were red-rimmed from holding back tears.
After enduring their taunts and demeaning treatment for a few more hours, Naida finally went back to the bedroom, her heart heavy.
This was her chance to speak to Lilith alone about leaving Rylan. She began practicing what she would say, pacing back and forth as she rehearsed the lines in her head.
"Lilith, this needs to stop.you have your own mate out there leave my husband alone." She shook her head, that didn't sound convincing at all.
Squaring her shoulders, Naida regarded her reflection in the mirror, determination flashing in her eyes. "You can do this," she told herself firmly. "For your marriage.for Rylan."
Taking a deep breath, she smoothed out her clothes and exited the bedroom, heading into the living room where Lilith sat on the sofa, sipping a glass of wine.
"Lilith." Naida began, her voice trembling slightly. "I.I need to talk to you about something."
Lilith looked at her, eyeing Naida as if in disgust. "What is it?" she asked impatiently, taking another sip of her wine.
Naida took a deep breath, steeling herself. "Lilith, I.I'm begging you." Her voice quivered as she took a glimpse of Lilith's cold, calculating eyes. "Please, leave my husband alone…"
Lilith's response was sarcastic. "Oh, darling, I'm afraid I can't do that." She sipped her wine again, enjoying the depressed expression on Naida's face. "You see, Ryan and I have an arrangement." He requires...diversions. And I give him those too."She gave her glass a soft tap. "Besidеs, you're not еxactly...еntеrtaining.""Ryan, my husband, is my mate. You have no right to him. He belongs with me, not with you, and this pack has me as the Luna. Therefore, I beg you to put an end to this...this affair." Tears filled her eyes as she spoke, her voice breaking.Lilith gave Naida a long, hard look before smiling and shaking her head. The sound was mocking and cold. "Oh my goodness, this is fantastic!" she exclaimed, wiping a fake tear off her face. "Thе littlе Luna bitch actually thinks shе has a say in anything!""I...I'm just asking you to stop... Rylan is my husband..." Naida's voicе trailеd off as shе strugglеd to kееp hеr composurе. "I don't undеrstand why you'd want someone's mate.
As Naida stood frozеn outsidе thе bеdroom door, hеr world crumblеd around hеr. She couldn't believe what he'd just heard. Hеr matе, thе man shе lovеd, wantеd to murdеr hеr. Thе broom shе was holding slippеd from hеr numb fingеrs, thudding to thе floor with a loud clattеr.Insidе thе room, Lilith and Rylan's hеads snappеd towards thе door at the sound of the thud. Without a momеnt's hеsitation, thеy leaped off thе bеt, rushing towards it. As Rylan swung thе door opеn, hе saw Naida's back disappеaring around thе cornеr. "Shit!" hе cursеd his voicе fillеd with frustration.Rylan wastеd no timе. Snatching up his shirt, hе and Lilith dashеd out of thе room, thеіr footsteps echoing through thе empty hallway as thеy chasеd aftеr Naida. But by thе timе thе reached the front door, Naida was alrеady outsidе, hеr figurе disappеaring into thе darknеss of thе surrounding forеst.With a growl, Rylan slammеd thе door shut and boundеd ovеr to his car, his movеmеnts a blur. Naida's heart raced as she opened her eyes, the bright fluorescent lights above her causing her to squint and shield her face with her arm. Her body was on fire, her muscles aching and her head throbbing. She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness forced her back down onto the cold, hard hospital bed.The door swung open violently, banging against the wall with a loud thud. Two strangers, a man and a woman, rushed into the room, their faces contorted with worry and fear. They hurried over to Naida's bedside, their movements frantic. The woman, her long, dark hair falling over her shoulders, gently took Naida's hand in hers. "Ravenna, can you hear me? It's okay, you're safe now," she said, her voice trembling.Confusion filled Naida's mind as she looked at them, her vision still blurry from the pain. "Who are you?" she managed to croak out.
The days that followed were a blur of activity for Naida. She spent most of her time getting to know her parents, Mara and Thorn, and they, in turn, made sure to shower her with love and affection. They told her stories about her childhood, about the time she had spent with them before the accident, and about the plans they had for her future. Naida listened intently, absorbing every detail as if it were a precious gemstone. She began to feel as though she truly belonged with them, as if her life was finally beginning to make sense. One day, as they sat together in the den of their expansive home, Mara leaned in close to her daughter and whispered, "Naida, dear, we have something important that we need to tell you." Her eyes were bright with anticipation, and her hands trembled slightly in her lap. "You see," she continued, "your father and I have always known that you were destined for greatness. Not just
Ravenna was finally allowed to leave the hospital. The past few days had been a blur of medical tests, physical therapy, and emotional support from her new family. Mara and Thorn were hurrying around the room, helping her with packing up her small belongings."Do you have everything, darling?" Her mother, Mara asked, her voice calm but filled with concern."I think so," Ravenna replied, folding a sweater and placing it in a suitcase. She still felt disconnected from her new life, but her parents' constant support was gradually helping her adjust.Just as they were zipping up the last suitcase, the door flew open with a crash. A young woman with short red braids and warm brown eyes rushed in, her face lighting up when she saw Ravenna."Ravenna!" she exclaimed, throwing he
The sun streamed through the kitchen windows, casting a warm glow across the wooden table as Ravenna's father set down his newspaper with a satisfied sigh. "Good morning, dear," he said, looking up at her with a smile. "Sleep well?"Ravenna nodded, still adjusting to the foreign feeling of a full stomach and a warm home. "Yes, thank you," she replied, her voice soft and hesitant. She glanced around the immaculate kitchen, taking in the copper pots hanging from the walls, the fresh flowers on the countertop, and the sound of her mother humming a gentle tune as she expertly flipped pancakes on the stovetop. Her father, Thorn, leaned back in his chair, watching her with a fond smile. "Are you excited for the celebration tomorrow, dear?" he asked, his deep voice resonating with affection."What... what kind of celebration?" Ravenna asked, confusion clouding her features.Thorn chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Why, dear, it's to celebrate your recovery, of course! You've been
The next few hours dragged on as Matthew continued to talk about himself, his accomplishments and interests, his family, their friends...but Ravenna boredly went through the motions. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Her parents, Daniella and Ethan, exchanged concerned glances every now and then, and Ravenna could feel their worried gazes on her. She tried to smile, to laugh at his jokes, to reassure him that she was listening, but it all felt forced and hollow. She couldn't understand how he could be her mate; there was no spark, no attraction, nothing. It was as if she were looking at a stranger, someone who meant nothing to her. She forced herself to concentrate on his words, but her thoughts kept drifting, and she found herself lost in a haze of confusion and disbelief."...and that's when we found out we were mates," Matthew finished, a note of triumph in his voice."Uh-huh," Ravenna murmured, glancing at the clock. She yawned, pretending to look interested.
The door opened and there stood Mara, Ravenna's mother, her expression gentle. "Ravenna, Matthew is leaving now," she said softly.Ravenna nodded. "Alright," she replied, her tone indifferent as she turned her attention back to Daniella. Her mother, smiled before closing the door again. Daniella, who had been watching the exchange with interest, turned back to Ravenna. "You feel uncomfortable around Matthew, right?"Ravenna hesitated before nodding. "A little," she admitted. "It's just...it's hard to explain."Daniella sighed, her expression sympathetic. "It's understandable."Then, her face lit up with excitement. "Let's forget about Matthew for now and find you some amazing shoes to match this dress!"Ravenna managed a small smile. She didn’t know why she wasn’t comfortable with Matthew. Shaking her head, she tried to get rid of the unsettling thoughts as she turned her attention back to Daniella. "Alright, let's do it."The next day, Ravenna was asleep in her room when she heard he
Ravenna and Soren made their way back inside, the tension between them palpable. As they entered the living room, Astrid's eyes lit up."Ravenna! Come sit by me," Astrid called, patting the spot next to her on the sofa. "I want to hear all about your business ventures."Grateful for the distraction, Ravenna settled next to Astrid. "Well, what would you like to know?"As the two women chatted, their conversation flowed easily from business to fashion to travel. Ravenna found herself genuinely enjoying Astrid's company, her wit and intelligence a refreshing change from the usual socialite crowd."You know," Astrid said, lowering her voice conspiratorially, "I haven't seen Soren this engaged with someone in years. You must be pretty special."Ravenna felt a blush creeping up her cheeks. "Oh, I don't know about that. We're just business partners."Astrid raised an eyebrow. "Mhmm. Sure you are."Across the room, Mara and Lyra were deep in conversation, their eyes occasionally darting to Ra
Ravenna pushed open the front door of her family home, the familiar scent of her mother's cooking enveloping her immediately. She followed the aroma to the kitchen, where she found her mother, Mara, bustling about in a frenzy of culinary activity."Mom?" Ravenna called out, eyeing the array of dishes spread across the countertops. "What's going on? Are we feeding an army?"Mara turned, her face flushed from the heat of the kitchen. "Oh, Ravenna! Perfect timing. We're having guests for dinner tonight."Ravenna raised an eyebrow. "Guests? Who?""The Blackthorn family," her mother replied, turning back to stir a simmering pot. "Soren Blackthorn and his parents and sister."Ravenna felt as if the ground had suddenly shifted beneath her feet. "Soren Blackthorn? As in... my business associate, Soren Blackthorn?""The very same," her father's voice came from behind her. Ravenna turned to see him entering the kitchen, a warm smile on his face. "I recently played golf with his father, Cedric.
Ravenna stifled a yawn as she left the office, the weight of the day's meetings and strategic planning settling heavily on her shoulders. The sun was already setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. As she walked to her car, she remembered her nearly empty fridge and decided to make a quick stop at the supermarket. The fluorescent lights of the store were a stark contrast to the fading daylight outside. Ravenna grabbed a basket and began wandering the aisles, her mind still partially occupied with thoughts of Rylan, Soren, and the intricate web she was weaving. As she turned into the produce section, her attention elsewhere, she collided with someone. Apples tumbled to the floor, rolling in every direction."Watch where you're going!" a sharp voice snapped.Ravenna looked up, an apology on her lips, but it died as she recognized the young woman before her. With striking red hair and piercing green eyes, there was no mistaking Quinn, one of Lilith's twin sisters.Quickly c
Ravenna's heels clicked against the pavement as she hurried to meet Soren at their usual spot, a discreet café tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. Her mind raced with the events of the past few days – the confrontation with Lilith, her calculated confession to Rylan. Everything was falling into place, but she couldn't shake the feeling that she was walking a razor's edge.As she entered the café, she spotted Soren immediately, his tall frame unmistakable even in the dimly lit space. He looked up as she approached, his face an unreadable mask."Ravenna," he greeted her, gesturing to the seat across from him. "Right on time, as always."She slid into the chair, eyeing him warily. "Well, when you say you have important information, I tend to take it seriously."Soren nodded, pushing a steaming cup of coffee towards her – black, no sugar, just how she liked it. The gesture, small as it was, reminded Ravenna of how well he'd come to know her over these past months."So," she said, t
Ravenna's heels clicked against the polished marble floor as she strode through the lobby of Rylan's office building. Her heart raced, but she kept her expression calm and confident. As she approached the security desk, she plastered on her most charming smile."Good afternoon," she greeted the guard. "I'm Ravenna Thorn, here to see Rylan Matthews."The guard checked his list and nodded. "Of course, Ms. Thorn. Mr. Matthews is expecting you. Please take the elevator to the 30th floor."As the elevator ascended, Ravenna took deep breaths, steadying her nerves. The doors opened, revealing a sleek, modern reception area. Rylan's assistant, a petite blonde woman, looked up with a bright smile."Ms. Thorn, welcome. Mr. Matthews is just finishing up a call. Please, go right in."Ravenna nodded her thanks and pushed open the heavy oak door to Rylan's office. The room was impressive – floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of the city, while tasteful artwork adorned the walls. Rylan
The morning sun cast long shadows as Ravenna crouched behind a parked car, her eyes fixed on Rylan's office building. She'd been there for hours, hoping to catch a glimpse of something—anything—that might give her an edge. But so far, all she'd seen was the usual parade of suited executives and harried assistants.Just as she was about to call it quits, a flicker of movement caught her eye. A man dressed in black, his face obscured by dark sunglasses, slipped out of an alley across the street. There was something off about him—the way he moved, the constant scanning of his surroundings. Ravenna's instincts screamed danger.Heart racing, she ducked out from behind the car and began walking briskly in the opposite direction. She could feel the man's eyes on her back, hear his footsteps echoing her own. Panic threatened to overwhelm her, but she forced it down. She wasn't some helpless victim—not anymore.Spotting a busy coffee shop ahead, Ravenna ducked inside and wove through the crowd
Ravenna groaned as she heard noise filtering up from downstairs. Groggily, she dragged herself out of bed and stumbled down the stairs, her hair a tangled mess and her pajamas rumpled. As she entered the kitchen, she froze in shock. There, sitting at her family's breakfast table, was Soren Blackthorn, casually sipping coffee with her parents."Ah, good morning, sleeping beauty," Soren smirked, his eyes trailing over her disheveled appearance.Ravenna's parents turned to greet her. "Good morning, sweetheart," her father said cheerfully. "Mr. Blackthorn dropped by to discuss the interior project."Ravenna stared at Soren, then down at her outfit, mortified. Soren's smirk widened. "Interesting pajama choice, Ms. Thorn. I particularly enjoy the mismatched socks."Ravenna's eyes narrowed. Without a word, she strode over to Soren, grabbed his arm, and started dragging him towards the garden. "Excuse us for a moment," she called over her shoulder to her bewildered parents.Once outside, Rav
Ravenna rushed into the boutique, her heart racing with anticipation. She had less than two hours before her date with Rylan, and everything needed to be perfect."Welcome back, Ms. Thorn," the stylist greeted her warmly. "Are you ready for your transformation?"Ravenna nodded, a determined glint in her eye. "Absolutely. Let's make this unforgettable."For the next hour and a half, Ravenna was pampered and primped to perfection. Her hair was styled into loose, elegant waves that cascaded down her back. The makeup artist worked her magic, accentuating Ravenna's natural beauty with smoky eyes and a deep red lip that matched her dress perfectly. As Ravenna slipped into the burgundy dress, she couldn't help but admire her reflection. The fabric hugged her curves in all the right places, the plunging neckline and high slit adding just the right amount of allure."You look stunning, Ms. Thorn," the stylist breathed, adjusting a final curl.Ravenna smirked, her eyes glinting with satisfactio
Ravenna stepped into her walk-in closet, eyes scanning the rows of carefully curated outfits. Tomorrow night's date with Rylan needed to be perfect - every detail had to be just right. Her fingers trailed over silky fabrics and sleek designs before stopping on a deep burgundy dress."This is it," she murmured, pulling it out.The dress was a masterpiece of seduction - form-fitting with a plunging neckline and a slit that climbed dangerously high up her thigh. She held it up to herself, admiring the way the rich color complemented her skin tone.Ravenna smirked, imagining Rylan's reaction. "He won't know what hit him."She laid the dress out carefully, then selected a pair of strappy black heels and delicate gold jewelry to complete the look. Satisfied with her choices, Ravenna went to bed, her mind buzzing with anticipation for the following day.The next morning, Ravenna arrived at the office early, determined to get ahead on her work before her date. She was deep in concentration, p
