The sun was slowly rising, sharp rays passing through the window went straight into Adira's eyes. She yawned, stretching both her hands and legs like a hungry lion as she sat up on the soft bed.
Her face looked pale, and her hair all messed up, like she had a tug of war in her hair. A little souvenir of the effects from the treatment she had the previous night.
She glanced around, there was no one else in the room but seeing the luxurious items in the room she was surprised. Adira had been so stunned last night, she had not noticed them.
It was like the room of a five star hotel, only without a TV. Figments of the events of the previous night suddenly poured into her head, she abruptly touched her body, searching for her injuries.
To her surprise, her bruises had all disappeared, healed overnight, like magic. She was in no pain, there was no scar, not even a single scratch on her. Excited, she called out into the room, "Theodore, I am healed!" Her face slowly drowned in disappointment as she was greeted with total silence.
Theodore was not there, despite his promise that he would be. After sitting there for what felt like an eternity, she finally got out of the bed, walking out of the thick blanket. It was at that moment she finally realized, her clothes were all gone except her pant and bra.
"Oh my God!" She gasped. She could only remember glimpses of what happened the previous night, like the short kiss Theodore gave her before everything blacked out. Could it be that they had sex?
Knock! Knock!! Someone knocked on the door, she gasped, hastily pulled the blanket from the huge bed and wrapped it around herself like a huge towel. "Come in Theodore.." She said, excited.
The door opened, but her face full of excitement was quickly drenched in disappointment, as a beautiful girl with red hair walked in, instead of Theodore. The girl looked no older than twenty, wearing a long blue dress, while holding a red dress in her hands.
"Whoa… Amazing!" Astonished, she stared at Adira with an enormous smile up her face. "You're up and standing, it seems the butan rose potion worked even on you, a mere human."
"I'm sorry, who are you?" Adira bluntly asked, her disappointment about it not being Theodore could be felt. "And where is Theodore?"
The girl's face instantly went pale, all her excitement tossed down the drain. She had come into the room wanting to make friends with Adira, but greeted with aloofness. "It's Shira." She replied coldly. "Theodore couldn't be here right now…"
"Ohh…right, Shira, the chosen Luna. I'm sorry if I sounded rude. I just thought it would be Theodore who would walk through that door. You know him being the one that saved me and all."
"But as you can see, it's not him."
"Where is he? I need to talk to him about an urgent matter."
"Really?" Her face straightened up as her eyes focused on Adira's face. "Well, Theodore went out searching the forest. Apparently, the patrolling unit spotted a set of humans hiking towards the pack's settlement. He went to make sure they don't find the pack and its location remains hidden, like it has for hundreds of years."
"Ohh…." Her eyes moved down to the floor.
"If it's that urgent, you can tell it to me and I'll see what I can do. I'm his Luna to be after all.." Finally she saw the opportunity to know what Luna actually meant. "I'm sorry, what does it mean to be a Luna?"
"Ohh, that's right you are human." She sneered, almost like she was now disgusted at Adira. "You wouldn't know. Well, a Luna, it's the mate of an Alpha, or as you humans would say, the wife."
Adira paused, filled with so many different emotions, some she couldn't even interpret. She'd thought it meant something else, but if Theodore had a wife to be, why did he kiss her?
Shira saw the unsettlement on Adira's face, and a smirk slowly appeared on hers. "Is that what you wanted to ask?" She pushed on.
Adira had wanted to ask about the kiss the previous night with Theodore, and if they had sex. But haven learnt what a Luna is, she couldn't possibly ask his Luna to be, if she had sex with her Alpha.
So she forced a smile up her face, hiding all her jealousy, and emotions behind it. "Ohh, well It's nothing. I wouldn't want to burden you with such a petty matter!"
"Really, but you said it was pretty urgent!"
"Yes, urgent but still petty."
"..." Shira opened her mouth to say something, but Adira quickly cut her short. "I'm sorry, not to be rude, but is there a particular reason you came in here to see me?"
"As much as I hate it, yes there is. Theo told me to watch you while he's away, and to lend you some clothes. I had just left to go get you some clothes, before I got back, you had already woken up."
"So what happened to my old clothes?"
"Given how messed up they were yesterday, they were taken off you, and are being cleaned up."
"Thank God….." She sighed in relief, if they took off her clothes because they were wet, that means she didn't have sex with Theodore.
"Thank God?" Her eyebrows were pulled down with her nose slightly wrinkled. "Do you miss your clothes that much?"
"Oh, yeah… I very much do."
"Well, I do hope this works just as good." Shira handed her the red dress she had been holding. "Put it on, we are going downstairs to go meet Laura, she needs to examine you."
Adira hesitantly took the dress, then Laura turned around for her to put it on. Laura proceeded to ask while facing the door, backing Adira; "Theodore said when he found you at the river, he was in his werewolf form. Then he shifted back to his human form?"
"Yeah… that's correct."
"And you didn't freak out?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, for a human. Seeing that werewolves exist for the first time, and then taken to a pack full of one. You should not be as cool as you are, unless there's something you are hiding…"
"There's nothing…" She walked in front of Shira, now dressed in the red dress which extended to her knees, perfectly fitted as if it was hers, showing off her curves and matched her blond hair, with her pretty blue eyes.
"I lived back in the human town, and I have seen my own share of crazy things. Yesterday was not the first time I saw a werewolf..." She lied.
Adira knew that if Shira, or anyone in the pack found out about her ties to the vampires. It would mean the end of her stay there, and quite possibly her life, so her lying felt justified.
"I see. Come on then, let's go see Laura for the examination. I promised Theodore I'd look after you, and this is part of it…"
*******
Deep in the forest far away from the pack's settlement, Theodore, Liam and three other werewolves were still searching. "I thought you said, the patrolling unit spotted the humans in this section of the forest?" Theodora asked.
"That's what the patrolling unit reported." Liam replied with uncertainty vivid in his face. "Are you boys looking for me, Aurora of the conclave?" Aurora walked out from the woods in front of them along with Damien, her second in command for the daywalkers, John, and James who was carrying a backpack filled with blood bags.
Theodore and his men's keen werewolf senses instantly caught the slight smell of corpses that followed them, there was no doubt they were daywalking vampires, their mortal enemies.
Liam and the other three werewolves swiftly motioned to stand beside Theodore to protect their Alpha, with their huge claws plunging from their fingers as they gently growled.
"Ohh calm down, I come in peace." She gestured with both hands in the air. "We already saw you coming this way about half a mile away, if we wanted to attack you we would not be having this conversation."
Theodore glanced at Liam, wondering how the vampires evaded their super senses. "What do you want!" He turned back to her with anger visible in his face. "You are outnumbered, five to four, judging by our strength it would be like twenty to four. So you best be on your way!"
"I will… but the conclave is looking for a girl, one who ran into your territory. I thought you should know that."
"What girl?"
"Her name is Adira, blond hair, blue eyes."
Theodore's heart skipped a beat as soon as he heard the name, why would the conclave be searching for Adira? His curiosity skyrocketed. "Adira? It doesn't ring a bell. But why do your conclave want her, ain't there an infinite number of humans out there?"
"Human?" She squinted her eyes. "I never said she was human."
At that moment, Theodore realized he had messed up, by not quilling his curiosity. Briskly he sucked up all the emotions visible on his face and replaced them with a cold look. "What are you insinuating?" He made his voice thicker.
"I'm not insinuating anything…" Aurora could see through his charade, she knew if anyone had Adira it was him. "Just that I saw you with her, yesterday in town. Back IN VAMPIRE TERRITORY!"
Theodore paused, glanced back at Liam, and saw the fear in his face. He had lied about his whereabouts that day, and now Liam and the others knew.
He took a step forward, glaring down at Aurora. "I haven't seen your so-called Adira, stop your wild accusations. This is werewolf territory, vampire has no business here. Leave now or you will face the consequences!"
"Fine…. We'll leave.." She snapped her fingers as she turned around, the vampires started walking along with her. "Aurora, are we really just going to leave?" Damien whispered to her. "He obviously is lying."
"Shhh they can still hear you!" She abruptly pauses and turns back around. Seeing this, Theodore was on the edge again ready to attack. "Just so you know, Adira is a manipulator, a liar, and most of all a vampire, one wanted by our King. Know that harboring her will only result in nothing but war!"
Theodore gulped down a huge amount of salvia as his eyes widened, he couldn't believe his ears. "I still haven't seen her…" He shreked. "Well okay… we'll be on her way." She turned around with an evil smirk on her face and continued to walk away, along with the three other vampires following her. Now her plan was at play.
Theodore just stood there, his eyes wide open staring at them, till they disappeared into the woods. "Theo!" Liam gently tapped his arm, pulling his attention to him. "They are gone, I can not hear them again. Do you want me to follow them so they leave the forest for good?"
"NO!" He exclaimed in fright. "We need to go back home. Adira has been lying to me, she's a vampire and we left her in our home. Oh how stupid I was, she is the enemy and could be a danger to everyone else."
All his feelings for her instantly turned to hate and disgust. The vampires killed his father and brother, even he feared what he might do to Adira next.
As Adira and Shira were walking through the various hallways of the castle heading to Laura's workshop, it felt like Adira was back at the mansion. Everyone they walked by, was staring at her, and murmuring to themselves. Just like the mansion, except this time it wasn't disgust she saw in their eyes, it was fear. "Why is everyone whispering about me?" She asked Shira who was walking beside her. Shira glanced at her. "Imagine your father brought a complete stranger into your home to replace your mom." "What?" "That's how they are feeling." "But I'm not here to take anyone's place!" "I guess we'll have to wait and see about that." Laura came to an instant stop, right in front of a door, "This is Laura's workshop." She gestured to the door. "She does most of her potions here, we should find her—" "Wait, isn't that Theodore!" Adira cut her short by gesturing to Theodore and beside him was Liam, the pack's beta, swiftly walking towards them, from the end of the hallway. "Y
"Wh—what do you mean? Listen to me Theodore, you cannot believe anything Aurora told you. She hates me, and would see me dead." "But you are a vampire, are you not?" "I'm a dhampir. That means until I awaken my vampire powers, I will remain as such. Technically I didn't lie, I am human." "Enough!" He bellowed. "It doesn't matter. You are wanted by the vampire conclave. Keeping you here, while they are searching for you, could mean war." "What about the dream, why we saw each other? The theory of maybe you were….. maybe I was destined to be your Luna?" "Are you this delusional?! You are no destined Luna of mine Adira, and you never will be! Shira will forever me mine, not your lying a*s." "What about the kiss last night?" "Kiss? Did you think that meant anything? I only did it, out of pity. To give you something to hope for, so you would live. But it seems that I am already reaping the seeds of my stupid decision!" "Stupid decision!" She held her tears back, tr
Night time at the pack was always Theodore's favorite, it was a blissful time to watch as the street lamps were turned on, and all the little children would gather around playing. Their parents were never worried about their safety, the pack was the safest place they could be. Theodore stood at the balcony outside the throne room of the castle, staring down at the children playing, with a sour look on his face. He should be happy, he had made a decision that was safer for his pack, to send Adira away, which was what an Alpha was supposed to do right? They make the difficult decisions that others will shy from. Then why did he feel so much regret, and pain. He walked back into the throne room, then his eyes caught the picture of his now deceased father. It was hung on the wall, behind his throne chair alongside his brother's and mother's. He glared at the picture for a while, his hard hearted father, a middle aged man with brown hair and hazel eyes. I guess you need to be hard he
"Why are they not here yet?" Adira voiced out, her hands were tied tightly together with vines, sitting on a fallen tree, deep in the forest. "Your precious day walkers, you told them to search the forest for me and meet here at night right? So where are they now?" "Shut up Adira!" Aurora exclaimed, vigorously pacing around. This was werewolf territory; she had to be vigilant for any attacks. After she had caught Adira at the highway, she forcefully took her back deeper into the forest, to wait for Dominic and the rest of her day walkers. "You know, I must tell you, Aurora, your plan to make Theodore hate me, by telling him I was a vampire really worked. But what I can't figure out, is why come this deep into the lands of werewolves without enough men to fight the werewolves?" Aurora ignored her and continued pacing around. Adira scoffs. "I see the problem here now, King Alaric didn't send you. You are going rogue on this. Does he even know where I am or that you pushed me off
Aurora opened her brown eyes, but her vision was blurry, she could only see the figure of someone standing over her. "Finally, you are awake. Are you okay?" He squatted next to her, making his face vivid enough that she could identify him. It was James, the day walker that Damien had sent to go give her blood. He had arrived right on time, and he gave her the last bags of blood which he kept in his backpack for emergencies like that. Like werewolves sometimes need the butan rose, vampires just need a little amount of human blood to jump-start their healing system. Aurora glanced around, then she realized they were in a cave of some sort. But which cave exactly, and why did they leave the rendezvous point? She was getting suffocated by her own questions, she had to voice them out. "Where are we?" She sat up. "A cave, deep in the forest. I brought you here so you can safely heal from the injury you had, we couldn't stay at the rendezvous point, many werewolves had been patrolling th
"Hold on! Exactly how many of these vampires are coming?" "The patrolling unit that spotted them, were able to scout that they were around fifty, holding guns and other weapons. The patrolling unit couldn't intercept them due to their numbers, so they brought the news straight to me." "I see, I warned the vampire Aurora to take her search away from our territory! If the vampires want a war, then we will give it to them!" Theodore gritted his teeth. "So, what do we do?" "Tell about a hundred of our most skilled fighters to gather at the briefing hall, and wait for me. We shall intercept the vampires before they make it to the pack." "Just a hundred?" "Yes, the rest of our warriors can stay here and protect the pack." "Okay…" Liam glanced over to Adira, he had not been able to get the moment he had with her back in the forest, off his head. Now seeing her in just her towel, with all her curves and edges visible to him, he was left stunned, never had he seen such a beauty
"You must think you're so smart? And have us pinned down, but let me tell you, you have not." "I am pretty sure I've. Look around you, you are painfully outnumbered. Whatever I decide now, is at my mercy. YOU ARE AT MY MERCY." Dominic was enraged, his breathing increased while giving him a hostile glare. "I will die before I am at the mercy of any werewolf!" He charged towards Theodore. Theodore just smiled, before Dominic's hand could touch him, one of the werewolves standing beside him jumped in front of Dominic, and clawed him with his big claws from his chest up to the right side of his shoulder, leaving behind a huge injury. Dominic wailed as he fell to the ground in pain, and the werewolf stood over him lifted his claws, about to finish the job. "Stop!" Theodore exclaimed with his hand lifted up. "Don't kill him, his king will do just that when he finds out how Dominic went behind his back to attack our pack." The werewolf growled at Dominic, and took a step back to sta
Adira's blond hair was flying to the gentle winds, standing at the window of Theodore's room, staring at the huge gates of the pack. She had gotten dressed in her hoodie and skinny jeans, now patiently waiting for Theodore. She had not been unable to get the magical kiss they shared off her head. It had been hours since Theodore left, it was now dark, she was becoming worried. No one in the pack, outside herself, knew about the vampire's attack, which made things even worse. There was no one she could ask about Theodore.KNOCK! KNOCK!! Someone knocked on the door, excitedly Adira rushed over to the door, thinking it was Theodore but was instantly drenched in disappointment as she opened the door, only to see Shira. "Where is he?!" Shira demanded with her hands folded on her chest. "He has been avoiding me for days. I don't know what's going on, but it all started since you came here." "I have no idea what you're talking about Shira." "Where is he? I've searched the whole damn pa
The first rays of sunlight peeked over the horizon, and slowly, but surely, the sky began to glow with an ethereal golden light. "Ahhh… Close the windows." Adira groaned, only to open her eyes to see herself completely naked, laying on top a completely naked Liam. "Ahhh!!!" She yelled in shock, abruptly moved back, to see her pants and bra behind her. "Oh my god." Her voice wavering as she picked them up. Liam was still soundly sleeping, like she had not just screamed. "Liam!" She aggressively kicked him with her leg, and he immediately jerked up to sit on the floor as well. His vision was still a little bit blurry, but as soon as they cleared up, his eyes were left fixed on Adira's boobs. "What are you staring at, turn around!" She yelled, and kicked him again. "Oh.. sorry…" Liam turned around, there he found his trousers, Adira's dress and his boxers. "Did we–" "I don't know!" Adira abruptly cut him short, wore her pants and bra, then stood up to look around, only to see t
A devilish smile settled on Shira's face, satisfied with the deafening silence that was coming from Adira, thinking that she had succeeded in upsetting her. "A second choice and something used to make you jealous, you say…." Adira started chuckling condescendingly without looking back at Shira. This sent Shira down a spiral of confusion, she thought she had won, so why was Adira laughing. "What's so funny?" She sneered, glaring at Adira. "I get the fact that you being a second choice, a whore and an object used to make me jealous is really hilarious, but why are you laughing?" "Because…" Adira paused and slowly turned around to stare at her directly in the face. "If a second choice can get the dress of the Alpha's mother, and could put the entire hall to silence when she walked in, are you sure she isn't the first choice?" Shira gasped, her chest pumping as her face turned red. She took a few steps back, people seated around who had heard their conversation were staring at her,
“What are you doing here?” Adira finally mustered enough courage to ask Theodore who was just staring at her without saying anything. "Well, I came to check up on you, after the whole Adolphus issue." He paused, his hands were behind him like he was hiding something he didn't want Adira to see. "You kind of disappeared." Adira remained quiet, and let out a silent sigh of relief. It seemed he had not heard about her fight with Laura, her mind started to drift into more relief and she totally forgot what Theodore had just said. “Adira!” He voiced out, suddenly pulling her back to reality. “Did you hear me? I said you kind of disappeared earlier on while crying, are you okay now?” “Yeah, sorry, my mind was a little bit carried away. I'm fine now. " "Are you sure? Adira, I came back here to this cabin to search for you, and you were nowhere to be found. You made me super worried." "Well, I did tell you not to follow me, because I needed to be alone at that time and I meant it.”
Shira swiftly walked down the staircase, through the various hallways of the castle, over to the throne room. Then she came to a stand still at the throneroom's doorway entrance. A devious smile settled on her face as she stared at Theodore who was standing at the balcony of the throne room, peacefully watching the setting sun unaware of Shira lurking by the doorway. The feeling of relief overwhelmed her, she felt it was finally victory for her over Theodore. Because she was certain once she told Theodore about the hidden relationship of Adira and Liam, it would destroy any feelings Theodore may harbor for Adira. All that would be left, would be to suggest transferring the bond from Adira to herself. She couldn't contain her joy. "Theodore, we need to talk." She finally walked into the throne room, straight to the balcony, to stand behind Theodore who didn't even turn back to her. This irritated her. "Theodore!" She took a short step forward. "Did you hear what I just said?" H
"Adira, are you okay?" Persistent, Liam stretched his hand towards her chin to lift her face up, despite her obvious behavior of wanting to back away. "Stop!" Adira aggressively held his hand and pushed it away, then in an aggressive tone she continued. "I just need to be alone right now!" "Classic Adira!" He scoffs, his shoulders slumped, as he takes a step back. "F*ck me for always trying to help when you seem hurt. I am the backlash guy right? You know what? I'm done being that!" He walked past her, continuing on his journey into the castle. She stared at him as he walked away, once again, she was getting filled up with guilt. After all, Liam had only ever tried to help. "Wait!" She finally voiced, bringing Liam to a halt. "I'm really sorry for the way I've been treating you…" She paused, tears still streaming down her cheeks, while hugging herself as if she was cold. After a short pause, she continued with her voice wavering. "It's that I've been through so much sh*t just thi
"Yes Adira, that's exactly what I am saying!" "Seriously?" Adira scoffs, and a grin settles at the corner of her lips. "You really think I'd believe that? Like seriously that's the best you could come up with?" "Adira, it's not a matter of believing. It's a matter of being truthful, whether you believe it or not. It is the truth." "Fine…." She folded her hand on her chest. "Let's say I believe what you're saying, which I don't, why would you still go through all this trouble just to get me away from the pack and kill me, knowing I'm basically family?" "Don't you dare say that, you are no family of mine, but an abomination to my lineage. And the cause of my innocent daughter's death!" The grin on her face quickly became engulfed with a serious look as she took an abrupt step backwards, memories of all the times they told her she was the cause of her mother's death back at the conclave, flashed through her head. "What did you just say?" She added, staring vigorously at Adolphus.
Theodore took another step backward, ulterly humiliated as he gulped down hard. "For the record, I have never made a choice, Adira. You just assumed I did." He said in a low tone. "Not choosing is a choice too!" She exclaimed in a loud voice. "You damn well knew that. So stop toying with my feelings when you know, we are never going to happen." "Fine…" He took a deep breath and exhaled hard, letting out all his anger in a loud tone. "You're right. I'm sorry for trying to kiss you Adira, after you gave me the go ahead by looking back into my eyes. I will NEVER ever try to kiss you again!" "Seriously! Giving you the go ahead?" She held her head up straight, gesturing with both hands. "You literally came at me for a kiss, then what? Later in front of Shira you'll treat me like I don't exist? Wait… do you actually expect me to apologize for slapping you?" "Adira, just drop it…" "Just drop it Theodore? You literally just tried to kiss me and tried to use emotional blackmail on me
"Well that was intense!" Lydia suddenly voiced out, drawing Laura's and Adira's attention to her. She had been standing behind them in the hallway, watching as the conversation with Laura got tense. "So much drama over one guy." She added. "Well he is the Alpha." Laura cut in, a smirk playing at the corner of her mouth. "He's every young girl's dream in the pack." "Well he isn't mine, plus it still doesn't change the fact that he's still just a guy mom and frankly speaking, he is not worth all the trouble." She proceeded to walk past them, over to the front door. "Lydia, wait!" Adira exclaimed, bringing Lydia to a halt before she opened the door. "I remember I hurt you last night when I shifted, I didn't have time to ask you this before, but are you okay?" "Hurt me!" Lydia scoffs, and turns around with a big smile plastered on her face, trying to hide how weak she felt. "You merely just tossed me, because you were stronger. You didn't hurt me sweet heart." "O…Kay. I just wante
"There is something you need to know…" Laura continued. "Adolphus's motive wasn't just so you could leave to protect the pack, he had over motives, or at least, so he says." "What other motive could there be?" "We don't know, he said he will only talk to you."KNOCK! KNOCK!! KNOCK!!! Someone suddenly knocked on the cabin's front door, pulling both their attention. "I'll get it!" Lydia echoed from the other room, and went to open the front door. "Mom, it's for you?" She voiced out a few seconds later. "Just get dressed, I left some clothes for you in the drawers." Laura said to Adira before she dashed out of the room to go see who was at the front door. Adira turned around and slowly walked back to the drawer which was beside the bed, brought out a black skinny jeans and a red female sleeve shirt which were carefully folded there and quickly put them on. Then looking like a model, she strolled out to the living room, only to see Shira talking with Laura at the front door. Her
