When Jasmine got home, she met her adoptive parents, Timothy and Gloria Lane, sitting on the couch in their living room, engaged in what seemed to be a serious conversation.

She wiped the tears from her eyes, so they wouldn’t notice she’d been crying. “Good evening, Father. Mother,” she greeted in a small voice, drawing their attention to her.

Timothy responded with a curt nod while Gloria’s lips pressed into a thin, disapproving line as she eyed her.

“Why didn’t you answer my calls?” She demanded. “Have you suddenly grown wings to think you can now do whatever you want?”

Jasmine's brows furrowed, and she quickly pulled out her phone to check if she had a missed call.

Sure enough, a notification of five missed calls stared back at her and her eyes widened.

She had been so caught up in the aftermath of Jason’s betrayal that she hadn’t noticed her phone was on silent mode.

“I’m sorry mom,” she mumbled apologetically. “I didn’t mean to ignore your calls. My phone was—”

Gloria raised a hand to silence her. “Your flimsy excuses aren’t needed. Just take a seat. We have something to discuss with you.”

Jasmine, whose curiousity was now piqued, wasted no time in complying to Gloria’s instruction.

Timothy and Gloria exchanged a look that she couldn’t decipher before they both turned back to her.

“We have a task for you,” Timothy finally began, his expression stoic and his posture rigid. “And in exchange, we’ll give you the information you need about your real parents.”

Jasmine’s eyes grew wide at the offer.

She had been pleading with them to give her the information about her birth parents ever since she found out she was adopted, but they had refused.

Why the sudden change of mind?

A flicker of skepticism rose within her, but she did her best to hide it.

“W-what would you like me to do?” She asked cautiously.

“We’ve been having a bit of difficulty with convincing an investor of ours,” Gloria explained with a sullen expression. “All we need you to do is to seduce him into agreeing to our demands.”

“Yes,” Timothy added, clearing his throat. “That’s our only option right now. If you succeed, you’ll get to know all about your true parentage. Do you agree with this?”

Jasmine's stomach churned at the absurdity of their request, and her first instinct was to refuse, but Timothy’s words replayed in her head.

‘You’ll get to know all about your true parentage.’

This made her hesitate and chew on her bottom lip as she considered her options.

Finding her birth parents was something she wanted more than anything in the world.

She yearned to ask them why they abandoned her and never came back.

“It’s just one night, right?” She convinced herself before returning her attention to Gloria and Timothy.

“I’ll do it,” she agreed, determination flickering in her eyes.

Gloria’s lips stretched into a satisfied smile. “I’m happy you made the right decision. After all, it’s the least you can do to thank us for all we’ve done for you.”

“Indeed,” Timothy concurred before giving out instructions to Jasmine.

“You’ll meet Samuel Wilson at the Ash Seasons Hotel. Meanwhile, I’ll be going on a business trip in a few hours, so my wife will give you the rest of the details. Don’t mess this up.”

His tone held a hint of warning as he gave Jasmine one more pointed look before rising from his seat and walking out of the living room.

There was a brief silence in the room as Gloria emptied her glass of champagne.

When she was done, she glanced at Jasmine with thinly veiled contempt.

“I’ll send you the details via text. Ensure to make Mr. Wilson’s experience very worthwhile.”

With that, she got up from her seat, and strutted away, leaving Jasmine to battle with her thoughts.

>>>>>>>>>

Jasmine tightly clutched the strap of her handbag as she walked down the narrow hallway of the hotel she was meant to meet Samuel Wilson at.

Her heart pounded loudly in her ears with each step she took towards his room.

ROOM 98. The golden plated number stared back at her the moment she reached the door.

The thought of seeing his old face made her skin crawl, so she took out a silk hair tie from her bag and tied it around her eyes.

Taking a deep breath, she willed herself to calm down before reaching for the doorknob.

Gloria had told her to enter without knocking, so she pressed down on the knob, and her sweaty palms fumbled with it as she pushed it open.

The blindfold around her eyes made it impossible for her to see anything as she cautiously made her way into the room.

Yet she could sense that he was there.

She lingered very close to the entrance, unsure of what to do next.

For a second nothing happened, but then she jumped in surprise when the door suddenly slammed shut behind her.

Before she could regain her composure, a husky, rich timbre voice slurred in her ear. “I can’t believe I get to see you again after such a long time, princess.

Her breathing instantly quickened as the intensity of the voice sent a tingling sensation down her spine.

It sounded like nothing she had expected, and she began to wonder if she had entered the wrong room.

Her thoughts got distracted when the man’s fingers slowly trailed across her features as though memorizing them. “You’re even more beautiful than I remember.”

The longing in his voice made her stiffen and her hands instantly reached to the back of her head to untie her blindfold, so she could see his face.

But his hands enclosed around hers, stopping her midway.

She sucked in a deep breath at the sparks that erupted on her skin from that single touch.

“Leave it on,” he rasped, guiding her hands back to her sides. “I like it.”

Her mouth parted, but before she could respond, he pulled her closer by her waist, and trailed his lips up her collarbone, drawing a breathy moan from her.

“You have no idea how much I’ve missed this,” he murmured as he gently sucked on the sensitive spot below her ear and soothed it with a flick of his tongue.

The action made Jasmine’s toes curl, and her fingers subconsciously fisted his shirt to support herself from falling.

She found herself tilting her head to grant him better access to her neck and he groaned, tightening his grip on her waist.

“Fuck. You taste better than I remember.”

As he said this, he scooped her up in his arms and Jasmine let out a surprised yelp as she was plopped onto a soft mattress after a few seconds.

She felt him hover above her and a wave of desire ignited within her as he trailed a finger from her temple, to her chin, to her neck, her collarbone before stopping at the swell of her breasts.

Her mind screamed at her to stop him…to demand answers as to why he seemed to know her.

But as she moved to stop him, he grabbed both of her hands and pinned them above her head.

“Relax, princess,” he whispered, nibbling at her earlobe. “Let me take care of you.”

And that was all it took for Jasmine to surrender to his touch.

>>>>

The next morning, Jasmine was awakened by the sound of her phone buzzing insistently.

She blinked a few times to get adjusted to her surroundings, and it took her a few seconds to remember where she was.

Her eyes darted to the man sleeping beside her, and she subconsciously bit her lip.

At some point during their encounter, her blindfold had fallen off, allowing her to get a good look at his face.

With his dark tousled hair, piercing blue eyes and chiseled features, he was breathtakingly handsome.

Her thighs clenched involuntarily as she was reminded of how intense, yet gentle he had been with her.

And before she could linger in the memory, her phone rang again.

She quickly slipped out of bed, and fished it out of her bag.

Then glancing at the caller ID, she saw it was Gloria calling, and her stomach dropped as she shakily swiped to answer.

“Hello—”

“You good for nothing slut!” Gloria’s voice boomed through the receiver. “Get home in ten minutes, or so help me God!”

Her head jerked to the side from the impact, and she clutched her throbbing cheek, stunned as she saw Gloria and Charlotte standing in front of her. “You ungrateful brat!” Gloria’s spat with venom. “How dare you play a fast one on us? Why didn’t you go to Samuel Wilson’s hotel room like you were told?” Jasmine’s mouth quivered as she tried to explain. “M-mom, I-I thought—” “Don’t call me that!” She snapped in revulsion. “I can never be the mother to a cheap whore like you.” “Don’t waste your breath on her, mom,” Charlotte placed a calming hand on Gloria’s shoulder while giving Jasmine a dirty glare. “Aren’t you shameless?” She smacked her teeth distastefully. “It hasn’t even been 24 hours since you broke up with Jacob and you’re already sleeping around.” “I wasn’t sleeping around,” Jasmine defended, her chest

Jason’s jaw dropped as his gaze landed on his uncle, who hadn’t been in the country for years. He didn’t miss how possessively he held Jasmine and a twinge of jealousy ignited in his chest. “U-uncle Asher, it’s been so long,” he masked his jealousy with a strained smile. “When did you come back?” Asher completely ignored him as his gaze was still fixed on Jasmine. “It’s you,” he mumbled in recognition. Jasmine’s cheeks tinged red with embarrassment. Shit. Why did he have to remember her? And why did he also have to be Jason’s uncle? “Uh…” she stuttered as she tried to come up with a response. But before she could, Jason’s parents, Richard and Laura Wayne, approached the scene, having been alerted by his outburst. They shared displeased glances with each other as they saw Asher, but hid it with fake smiles. “Asher, little brother, you finally decided to return after being away for so long,” Richard acknowledged in a fake cheery voice. “What’s it been…seven years?” “It’

Everyone was left speechless as Asher’s announcement hung in the air. Jasmine herself was extremely confused as to why he would say such a thing, and she leaned in closer to him. “What are you doing?” She whispered incredulously and tried to pull her hand away, but he held onto it more firmly, refusing to let go as he glanced at her. “Just trust me,” he softly assured before returning his attention to everyone else. Jason managed to pick up his jaw that had fallen to the floor after a few seconds. “Uncle, y-you can’t be serious!” He blurted in bewilderment. “Jasmine was my fiancé up until yesterday. How can you be getting married to her?!” “Surely this is some sort of prank right?” Charlotte added, her voice dripping with contempt towards Jasmine. “You can’t possibly want someone as cheap as her.” Asher’s lips twitched as he enjoyed their reactions. He was so close to laughing, but he kept his expression controlled. “I’ve made my decision, and I owe no one any explanations.

Charlotte was stunned by Jason’s sudden outburst and a frown appeared on her features. “Jason, what has gotten into you?” She demanded as she tugged at his arm. “Why do you care so much about Jasmine being with your uncle?” Her words flew over Jason’s head as he yanked his arm free from her grip. And all he saw was red as he stormed towards Asher and Jasmine. “This relationship will not happen!” He spat and attempted to grab Jasmine. But Asher swiftly stepped forward, shielding her behind him. His eyes narrowed as he glared at Jason’s seething figure. “Stand down!” Jason’s fists tightened as he ignored Asher and sneered at Jasmine. “You’ll pay for humiliating me like this!” “Humiliating you?” Jasmine scoffed as she stepped away from behind Asher, finally mustering the confidence to speak up for herself. “If anyone was humiliated here it’s me. I can’t believe I ever fell for an egoistical and conceited person like you.” Jasmine’s words snapped off the last shred of restrain

Jasmine sighed and chewed on her lips as she wrestled with the decision before her. A part of her wanted to say no and follow through with her plan of leaving the city and starting afresh. But the other part, the one fueled by pain and anger, desperately craved to make Charlotte and Jason pay for what they had done to her. Still, what was the point of dwelling on their painful betrayal when it would be easier to move on? She pressed her lips into a firm line and met Asher’s patient, yet expectant gaze. “I appreciate your offer, Mr. Wayne, but I’ll pass,” her voice was polite, yet resolute. Asher’s brows arched in surprise, but she didn’t give him a chance to interrupt as she continued. “I don’t want revenge. I just want to leave this city. There’s nothing left for me here.” Saying the words aloud made them feel even more real…and more devastating. No family. No friends. No relationship. Nothing. Jasmine took a deep breath, her fingers playing with the lace of the knee-length, white skater dress she wore as she stared at her reflection in the full length mirror. Her long blonde hair was plaited into a french braid, and her face was covered in minimal makeup that accentuated her delicate features. She didn’t feel quite like herself, but she had to admit, she looked…beautiful. She felt beautiful. “Ma’am, I must say, you look very stunning!” The stylist who had gotten her ready gushed beside her. “Mr Wayne won’t be able to take his eyes off you throughout the party.” A faint blush crept up Jasmine’s cheeks at the thought of Asher’s attention being on her all night. She could already imagine him staring deep into her soul with his intense blue eyes. It had been five days since she’d signed the marriage contract with him, and tonight, he was hosting a party to commemorate their marriage. She subconsciously twirled the 24 karat diamond ring on her finger as her ner

The question hit Jasmine like a slap to the face and her face slightly paled as she could feel the eyes of the numerous reporters on her. The flashes from the cameras trained on her did nothing to quell her rising anxiety, and she instinctively tightened her grip on Asher’s hand to steady herself. “Don’t let them get to you. Just breathe,” Asher stroked her hand with his thumb in a comforting manner. Jasmine closed her eyes and inhaled sharply as she focused on Asher’s calming strokes. “…Just hold your head high and let your confidence shine through…” The stylist's words from earlier floated through her head and that was all she needed to regain her composure. When she reopened her eyes, her demeanor was more relaxed, and she squared her shoulders as she stared right at the reporter who threw the question at her. “I don’t know where you heard that from, but it isn’t true.” she countered calmly. Asher’s voice made Charlotte and Jason freeze like deers caught in headlights. All attention had now shifted towards them, including the reporters and their cameras. They shifted uncomfortably under the weight of so many eyes on them. Asher turned to Garett and ordered, “Repeat what you just confessed. This time loud enough for everyone to hear.” Garett’s voice trembled as he rose to his feet and shot a finger at Charlotte’s direction. “She paid me to defame Mrs. Jasmine’s character!” The crowd gasped at the revelation and Charlotte’s face drained of all color. Her eyes darted around as she scrambled for a way to get out of the situation. “That’s not true!” She denied immediately after regaining her composure. “I don’t even know who that lowlife is!” “Enough with the damn lies!” Asher retorted, his voice thick with irritation. Then he turned to Garrett. “Do you have any proof?” Garrett quickly nodded and took out his phone. “Here it is,” he mumbled as he showed Asher

“Good to see you again, Mr. Wayne.” Tristan greeted Asher as they met up in the hospital. “How’s my sis…I mean, Miss Lane doing?” Asher returned the greeting with a friendly nod, though his expression remained firm. “She regained consciousness this morning, and the doctor says she’s stable.”Tristan exhaled in relief and his face lit up. “That’s great news. I should go and see her now.”“Yeah,” Asher agreed. “But do it later. We need to run the DNA test before the samples get contaminated.”“Right,” Tristan nodded as he recalled the situation at hand. He reached into the inner pocket of his suit and retrieved a paper envelope from there.“This is my father’s sample,” he explained as he held it out to Asher. “I swabbed it from his teacup this morning.”“That’s good,” Asher replied, and raised a ziplock bag with Jasmine’s strand of hair inside. “And this is Miss Lane’s. Let’s get them checked right away.”On that note, the men headed toward the hospital’s laboratory, matching each oth
