When Jasmine got home that afternoon, she met her adoptive parents, Timothy and Gloria Yates, sitting on the couch, engaged in what seemed like a deep conversation.
She wiped the tears from her eyes and cleared her throat, so it wouldn’t seem like she had been crying. “Good evening, Father. Mother,” she greeted, drawing their attention to her. Timothy gave her a curt nod in response while Gloria’s lips pressed into a thin, disapproving line as she eyed Jasmine from head to toe. Ever since they had discovered Jasmine wasn’t their daughter, and reunited with their real daughter, Charlotte, they had developed a sort of coldness for her and basically discarded her. “Why didn’t you answer my calls?” Gloria demanded in a scolding tone. “Do you think you can just do whatever you want?” Jasmine's brows furrowed, and she quickly pulled out her phone to check if she had a missed call. Sure enough, a notification of 5 missed calls stared back at her and her eyes widened in surprise. She had been so caught up in her thoughts about Jacob’s betrayal that she hadn’t noticed her phone was on silent mode. “I’m sorry mom,” she bowed, her voice apologetic. “I didn’t mean to ignore your calls. My phone was—” Gloria raised a slender hand to silence her. “You don’t have to give flimsy excuses,” she cut her off. “Just come here. We have something to discuss with you.” Jasmine nodded before walking over to the couch across from them. She took her seat and crossed her legs in the graceful manner Gloria had taught her. Timothy and Gloria exchanged a look that Jasmine couldn’t decipher before they both turned back to her. “We have a task for you,” Timothy began, his expression stoic as he leaned forward and entwined his hands together. “If you do it, we’ll give you the information you need about your real parents.” Jasmine’s eyes widened at Timothy’s offer. She had been pleading with them to give her the information about her parents ever since she found out she was adopted, but they had refused. Why had they suddenly changed their minds? A flicker of skepticism flashed through her eyes, but she did her best to hide it as she stared at them with wariness. “W-what would you like me to do?” Gloria’s lips downturned as she tried her best to look defeated. “We’ve been having a bit of difficulty with convincing an investor of ours. We need you to seduce him into agreeing to our demands.” “Yes,” Timothy cleared his throat as he added. “That’s our only option right now. If you succeed, you’ll get to know all about your birth parents. Do you accept?” Jasmine's stomach churned at the absurdity of their request. Were they actually just trying to make her a pawn in their plan? Her first instinct was to refuse, but Timothy’s words replayed in her head like a broken record. ‘You’ll get to know all about your birth parents.’ This made her hesitate and she chewed on her lips as she considered her options. Finding her birth parents was something she wanted more than anything in the world. “It’s just one night,” she convinced herself. “I can do this.” “I’ll do it,” she finally conceded, determination flickering in her eyes. Gloria’s feigned sadness vanished, and was replaced by a smug smile. “You’ve made the right decision. After all, it’s the least you can do to thank us after all we’ve done for you.” Jasmine inwardly flinched at Gloria’s indirect jab, but she held her tongue. Timothy glanced at Jasmine, his expression still cold. “You’ll meet Samuel Wilson at the Ash Seasons Hotel by 9pm sharp. Don’t be late.” He instructed in a clipped tone as he rose from his seat, and left the living room without another word. Gloria smoothed out the bodice of her gown as she equally stood up. “Ensure to make his experience…worthwhile,” she smirked slyly before strutting away, her stiletto heels clicking against the tiled floor. >>>>>>>>> Jasmine clutched her handbag tightly as she walked down the narrow hallway of the hotel, her heart pounding with each step she took. She glanced at the gold plated numbers on the doors until she reached the one she was looking for. “Room 98,” she whispered as the numbers stared back at her. Her hands trembled as she brought out a silk tie from her bag and tied it around her eyes. She didn’t want to see the face of the old man she was going to sleep with. Taking a deep breath, she willed herself to calm down as she repeated, “It’s just one night.” After stalling for a few more seconds, she finally reached for the doorknob. Gloria had told her to enter the room without knocking, so she pressed down on the knob, and her sweaty palms momentarily fumbled with it before she pushed it open. The blindfold on her face restricted her vision, so she couldn’t see anything, but she could sense a presence in the room. She hesitated at the entrance, unsure if she should speak, and for a second nothing happened, but then she gasped in surprise when she heard the door closing behind her. A warm, calloused hand gripped her jaw and tilted her head upward before she had a chance to regain her composure. “Long time no see, princess,” a husky, rich timbre voice with a slur echoed in her ears, sending a tingling sensation down her spine. Her brows furrowed behind the blindfold. The voice sounded nothing like that of an old man. It was smooth, almost…pleasurable. Was she in the right room? She didn’t have the time to dwell on the thought as his hot minty breath suddenly fanned against her face. “You’re even more beautiful than I remember.” She stiffened as she realized how very close he now was. What did he mean by what he said, and why was she not repulsed by it? “I…I don’t…” she began, but he pressed a finger to her lips, interrupting her. “No words, princess. Just feel.” Before she could respond, his soft lips travelled up her collarbone, and a breathy moan escaped her mouth. “You have no idea how much I’ve dreamt of this,” he murmured as he gently sucked on the base of her neck and soothed the spot with a flick of his tongue. The sensuous action sent a zap straight to Jasmine’s toes, and she clung to his shirt, her head tilting instinctively to give him better access to her neck. “Fuck,” he breathed, his voice now thick with desire. “You taste better than I imagined.” Jasmine let out a surprised yelp as he swept her off her feet and placed her on a soft mattress. He hovered over her and trailed a long finger from her chin, to her collarbone and down to her cleavage. Her mind screamed at her to stop him…to demand answers as to why he seemed to already know her. But her body melted under his touch as he whispered these words in her ear. “I’m going to ravish you,” he nibbled on her earlobe, and slipped her gown off before giving her what she would term the best experience of her life. >>>> The next morning, Jasmine was awoken by the sound of her phone buzzing from inside her bag. Her blindfold was nowhere to be found, and it took her a moment to adjust to her surroundings. The cotton sheets pooling around her bare skin made her realize she was naked under the covers, and her eyes widened as the events of last night came flooding back. Her gaze darted to the man beside her, his tattooed, muscled back rising and falling as he slept soundly. The ache between her legs reminded her of how intense yet gentle he had been with her last night, and a blush stained her cheeks. Before she could daydream further, her phone rang again, and she slipped out of bed, grabbed her bag, and fished it out. She glanced at the caller Id to see it was her adoptive mother. With a deep breath, she answered the call. “Hello—” “You good for nothing slut!” Gloria’s voice screeched from the other end. “How dare you bail on Samuel Wilson? Get home in ten minutes or so help me God!” Jasmine's blood ran cold and her gaze snapped back to the sleeping man. If he wasn’t Samuel Wilson, then who was he?Jasmine hurried out of the hotel room before the sleeping man could wake up. She got home a few minutes later, only to be greeted with a sharp slap across her face. Her head jerked to the side from the impact, and she clutched her throbbing cheek. “You ungrateful brat!” Gloria’s sharp voice resounded. “How dare you play a fast one on us? Why didn’t you go to Samuel Wilson’s hotel room as planned?” Jasmine’s eyes glistened with tears as she tried to explain. “M-mom, I t-thought—” “Don’t call me mom!” Gloria spat. “I can’t be a mother to a cheap whore like you.” Charlotte, who was lounging on the couch, rose up and approached her mother. “Don’t waste your breath on her, mom,” Charlotte placed a calming hand on Gloria’s shoulder and gave Jasmine a dirty glare. “It’s not even been 24 hours since your engagement was called off, and you’re already sleeping around,” Charlotte smacked her teeth distastefully. “I’ve always known your good girl act was just a farce.” “I wasn’t sle
Jacob’s jaw nearly dropped as his gaze landed on his estranged uncle, Asher, who hadn’t been in the country for years. His eyes flickered to how possessively Asher held Jasmine and a twinge of jealousy ignited in his chest, but he masked it with a strained smile. “U-uncle, it’s been so long,” the tone of his voice was a complete contrast to how he truly felt. “When did you come back?” Jacob’s blurt had alerted his other family members and they turned their attention towards Asher. Jacob’s mother and father, Richard and Laura Wayne, shared displeased glances with each other as they saw Asher, but they hid it with forced smiles. “Asher, little brother, you finally decided to return after being far away for so long,” Richard piped in a fake cheery voice from where he stood. “What’s it been…seven years?” “It’s good to see you, Asher,” Laura added, her voice mirroring her husband’s. “Welcome back.” Asher finally tore his gaze from a still astonished Jasmine, but kept his han
Everyone in the room was left speechless as Asher’s declaration hung in the air. Jasmine herself was extremely confused as to why Asher would say such a thing, and she leaned in closer to his ear.“What are you doing?” She whispered, her eyes flickering with disbelief. She tried to retrieve her hand from Asher’s, but he held onto it more firmly, refusing to let go as he glanced at her. “Just trust me,” he assured curtly before returning his attention to everyone else.Jacob managed to pick up his jaw that had dropped to the floor after a few stunned seconds. “Uncle, y-you can’t be serious,” he blurted incredulously. “Jasmine was my fiancé up until yesterday. How can you be in love with her already?”“Surely this is some sort of prank right, uncle Asher?” Charlotte added, her voice tinged with barely restrained contempt towards Jasmine. “You can’t possibly want to marry a leftover like her.”Asher’s lips twitched at their reactions, and he didn’t look bothered in the slightest bit.
Charlotte was taken aback by Jacob’s sudden outburst and her face contorted into a frown. “Jacob, what has gotten into you?” She demanded as she tugged at his arm. “Why do you care so much about Jasmine being with your uncle?”Her words flew over Jacob’s head as he yanked his arm free from her grip. And all he saw was red as he stormed towards Asher and Jasmine. “This relationship will not happen!” He spat and attempted to reach for Jasmine, but Asher swiftly stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Jasmine to shield her.His brow arched as he stared down at Jacob’s seething figure. “And who are you to declare that? You’ve already chosen your partner. Go back to her and stop making a fuss.”Jacob’s fists tightened as his gaze alternated between Asher and Jasmine before settling on Jasmine in a venomous glare. “You’ll pay for this,” he sneered. “You’ll pay for humiliating me like this.”“Humiliating you?” Jasmine scoffed as she stepped away from behind Asher, finally musterin
Jasmine sighed and subconsciously chewed on her lips as she wrestled with the decision to take. A part of her wanted to say no and go ahead with her plan of leaving New York, and start afresh in a place far away from all the betrayal and humiliation. But the other part, the one fueled by pain and anger, desperately craved to make Charlotte and Jacob pay for what they had done to her. Still, what was the point of dwelling on their painful betrayal when she could just move on? She pressed her lips in a firm line as she looked at Asher, who was patiently watching her. “I appreciate your offer, Mr. Wayne, but I’ll pass,” she declined, making sure her voice was polite, yet resolute. Asher’s brows arched in surprise, but she didn’t give him a chance to interrupt as she continued. “I’m not interested in getting revenge against Jacob and Charlotte. I just want to leave this city. There’s nothing left for me here.” As the words left her lips, a sad, gloomy expression overtook
Jasmine took a deep breath, and her hands smoothened out the bodice of the white lace dress she wore as she stared at her reflection in the full length mirror. Her long blonde hair was plaited into a French braid, and secured with a white satin ribbon. Her face was covered in minimal makeup which accentuated her delicate features. The short dress hugged her petite curves in all the right places and complimented her long, tanned legs. She didn’t feel quite like herself, but she had to admit, she looked beautiful. The stylist Asher hired to get her ready did a good job.“Ma’am, I must say you look very stunning,” the stylist gushed as she admired Jasmine’s reflection, almost as though she overheard her thoughts.“Mr Wayne will not be able to take his eyes off you all through the party.”A faint blush crept up Jasmine’s cheeks at the compliment. It had been five days since she’d signed the marriage contract with Asher, and tonight, he was hosting a party to announce their marriage to h
The question hit Jasmine like a slap to the face and she froze momentarily, her face becoming slightly pale as she could feel the eyes of the reporters on her.The flashes from the cameras that were trained on her did nothing to quell her rising anxiety, and she instinctively tightened her grip on Asher’s hand, to steady herself. “Don’t let them get to you, princess. Just breathe,” Asher stroked her hand with his thumb in a comforting manner. Jasmine closed her eyes and inhaled sharply as she felt Asher’s strokes easing her anxiety. When she reopened her eyes, her demeanor was more composed. She squared her shoulders as she looked straight at the reporter who still pointed a microphone at her.“I don’t know where you heard that from,” she countered, her voice clear and steady, despite the tiny bit of anxiety that still lingered in her heart. but it isn’t true.” Somehow her gaze travelled across the room, and she caught sight of Jacob and Charlotte before they could avert their gaz
The reporters’ eyes followed Asher’s finger to Charlotte and Jacob, who suddenly froze like deers caught in headlights as all the cameras now shifted towards them.“Where are you both going, dear nephew?” Asher continued, his tone in between mocking and edgy. “The party hasn’t even gotten started.”Jacob and Charlotte shifted uncomfortably under the weight of so many eyes on them. Charlotte scrambled for a way to get out of the embarrassing situation she had tried to avoid.“This party is too boring for us, and that’s why we are leaving,” she finally retorted, dusting invisible lint from the bodice of her red, slip dress as she nudged Jacob. “Isn’t that right, Jakey?”Jacob cleared his throat awkwardly, and adjusted the lapel of his suit as he equally straightened his stance. “Yes, indeed. We wouldn’t have even come here if my grandmother hadn’t forced me.”“What are you talking about, you silly brat?” Ophelia’s voice shot out from among the guests as she came into view. She was impe
Jasmine’s forehead remained puckered in confusion as she waited for Asher to elaborate on the revelation he had just shared. And Asher rubbed a hand down his face before he picked up from where he left off. “Diana had been my girlfriend since high school. And the picture in that frame was one of us in college.” Jasmine tilted her head as she listened intently to him. She could sense the hurt in his voice, and it tugged at her heart strings. “Things between us were good and I was set to marry her after I graduated from business school,” he paused to get ahold of his emotions that were threatening to slip. He had already been vulnerable enough with Jasmine, and didn’t want to show any more. “But then,” he finally continued after getting his emotions in check. “I got into an accident just before I could inherit my father’s company.” “Someone saved me on the night of the accident. At first, I thought it was Diana, but,” his lips twisted into a bitter smile. “Her cold attitude af
Jasmine spun around in startlement, and as she tried hiding the picture frame behind her, it slipped from her hand. The sound of shattering glass made her flinch and her eyes widened as she turned to see the shattered pieces of the picture frame on the floor. A gasp escaped her lips and beads of sweat began to form on her forehead as she instantly crouched down and began to pick up the broken pieces.Asher’s brows drew into a deep V as he watched her frantically fiddle with the glass shards. “Jasmine,” he drawled as he took cautious steps towards her. “What did you break?Jasmine’s heart pounded in her chest as she scrambled for a reply, but in her distracted state, she grazed her finger against the sharp edge of a broken piece.“Ouch,” she hissed in pain as she instinctively jerked her hand back, and inspected the finger that had begun to drip blood onto the bodice of her white lace dress. Asher was by her side in a flash, and he gripped her arm gently, pulling her up to her feet
Jasmine’s fingers tightened around Asher’s shirt at his suggestive tone, and her tongue subconsciously flicked out to wet her bottom lip. Asher’s eyes followed the small action and a low rumble emanated from his throat as he pulled her closer.“You’re making it so hard to resist throwing you on my bed and having you screaming under me,”he groaned and dipped his head towards the curve of her neck.Jasmine’s heart raced, but before his lips could graze her skin, she firmed her palms on his chest and pushed him back as much as she could. “Mr. Wayne—”“Call me Asher,” he interrupted her with a low, coaxing voice. “We’re married now, so drop the formalities.”“A-Asher,” Jasmine gulped shakily, the name tasting foreign on her tongue. “We have a rule to keep, remember?”Asher tilted his head and furrowed his brows in feigned confusion. “And what rule is that?” Jasmine rolled her eyes and shook her head as she added more pressure against his chest to prevent him from coming closer. “I’m se
After a long night of fake smiles and mingling with the guests at the banquet hall, the party was finally over, and Jasmine and Asher made their way home in his Cadillac Escalade.Jasmine subconsciously fiddled with the ring on her finger as she gazed outside the window. Her thoughts swirled with everything that had happened that evening, especially Jacob and Charlotte’s threats, and she sighed quietly, trying to suppress the unease brewing within her.Asher noticed her from his peripheral vision.“Penny for your thoughts?” He cocked a brow, his gaze still focused on the road ahead of him.Jasmine blinked and turned to look at him. The little light emanating from the dashboard cast a faint glow on his stunning profile and she found herself almost entranced by it.But she caught herself and quickly looked away. “It’s just,” she sighed again, and leaned her head back against the headrest. “I can’t help but wonder what further tricks Jacob and Charlotte will pull to bring me down.
